From the delicate notes of an acoustic guitar, to the rich tones of an upright bass — Yamaha designed the A-S700 to capture the expressiveness and beauty of your music collection. It delivers 90 watts of dynamic, full-bandwidth-rated power to each of your stereo speakers to provide clear, undistorted sound — even during your music's most demanding peaks. Wide-range frequency response lets you experience all the details on your LPs, CDs, and even high-resolution SACDs and DVD-Audio discs in stereo mode.

Built for high-performance audio
This integrated amplifier boasts a thoughtful, rock-solid design. Yamaha organized the left and right channels into a straight, symmetrical layout, keeping the signal path short and the sound clean. High-end internal components — such as extruded aluminum heat sinks and custom-made capacitors — allow the A-S700 to handle demanding passages effortlessly. An anti-resonant base, rigid center bar, and sleek aluminum front panel provide a sturdy, vibration-resistant housing. And for the purest possible sound, Yamaha gives you direct modes that let you bypass the tone, balance, and loudness controls.

Connections and convenience
The A-S700 offers enough inputs to connect six audio components, including a turntable. Two sets of main speaker outputs let you connect an additional pair of speakers. And the included remote gives you easy control of the amplifier and the other Yamaha audio components in your system.

Audio Features

Overview: The Yamaha A-S700 Integrated Stereo Amplifier features a built-in two-channel amplifier with A & B speaker outputs and six analog inputs.

ToP-ART/High Current Amplification: Yamaha uses the ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) design concept, which combines the latest and best technologies, parts, and circuit designs, to maximize sound quality. High Current Amplification uses superior quality components from input to output to achieve high current power with low impedance.

Stereo Amplifier: The Yamaha A-S700 features a highly dynamic, powerful stereo amplifier with low impedance drive capability. The stereo amplifier is rated at 90 watts x 2-channel at 20-20kHz, in 8-ohms with 0.019% THD.

Bass and Treble: The stereo amplifier features independent bass (20Hz) and treble (20kHz) controls so you can increase or decrease the low and high frequency response (+/-10dB).

Balance: You can adjust the sound output balance of the left and right speakers connected to the amplifier.

Loudness: The integrated amplifier features a continuously variable loudness control (0 to -30 dB), so you can retain a full tonal range at any volume level; thus compensating for the human ear's loss of sensitivity to high and low frequency ranges at low volume.

CD Direct Amp: The CD Direct Amp switch is used to obtain the highest sound quality from compact discs by bypassing the input selector, balance and tone control circuits. The CD Direct Amp switch routes input signal directly to the power amplifier from your CD player, regardless of the Input selector setting.

Pure Direct: The Pure Direct switch is used to reproduce the purest source sound by bypassing balance and tone control circuits.

Speaker Selector: The Speaker Selector switch allows you to select only A speakers, only B speakers, A+B speakers, or no speakers; so you can control which speakers are playing.

Impedance Switch: The stereo amplifier features a rear-panel impedance switch to match impedance level of the speakers connected. There are two levels to choose from: High or Low.

  • High: Select High if you use one set (A or B) of speakers with the impedance of 6-ohm or higher. If you use two sets (A and B) of speakers simultaneously, the impedance of each speaker must be 12-ohm or higher. When making a bi-wire connection, the impedance of the speaker must be 6-ohm or higher.
  • Low: Select Low if you use one set (A or B) of speakers with the impedance of 4-ohm to 6-ohm. If you use two sets (A and B) of speakers simultaneously, the impedance of each speaker must be 8-ohm to 12-ohm. When making a bi-wire connection, the impedance of the speaker must be 4-ohm to 6-ohm.

Record Out Selector: The integrated stereo amplifier features a record out selector switch which is independent from the amplifier's input source selection knob. This allows you to record the selected output source while listening to another input source. The unit's volume control does not affect the fixed record level output.

Remote Control

Remote Control: The integrated amplifier comes supplied with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the unit. The remote control can also be used to control select Yamaha audio components such as a CD player or AM/FM tuner. The remote has a range of 20 feet at an angle of 30-degrees left-to-right of the unit's front-panel IR sensor.

Connections

Analog Inputs/Outputs: The Yamaha A-S700 integrated stereo amplifier is equipped with six analog RCA stereo inputs for connecting an external audio source such as a CD player, AM/FM tuner, Turntable, and/or cassette deck. There is also two analog RCA stereo outputs for recording through the amplifier.

Note: The unit's Phono input also features a ground terminal and is designed to connect a turntable with an MM cartridge.

Speaker Outputs: The Yamaha stereo amplifier features binding post terminals for its A & B speaker outputs. The speaker outputs are color-coded for easy connection. You can use the A & B speaker outputs to power two pair of separate speakers or you can bi-wire a single pair of speakers.

Headphone Output: The A-S700 integrated amplifier is equipped with a front-panel 1/4" headphone output for connecting a pair of headphones (sold separately). The headphone output and speaker outputs will work simultaneously. You will need to rotate the speaker selector switch on the front-panel to the Off position to turn off the sound from your connected speakers.

AC Outlets: The integrated stereo amplifier features two switched AC outlets to power your other audio components.

Q
What is the lowest model of this series with metal knobs? I've seen reviews for the A301 and A501 commenting on plastic knobs.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I checked the Yamaha site and our internal info and cannot come up with an answer to this question. Since out home merchandisers aren't here today (Fri) Corky recommended that the customer call during the week and we can check with them or perhaps the retail store. Rather lame response but that's all I've got on this right now. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
Is this unit compatible with Yamaha Receivers? If so, how would I connect them to each other?

I can not see why not. In the back of the tuner there must be an output jack. In the back of the Yamaha A-S700 (which by the way is an excellent amplifier) there is an input jack specifically to connect the tuner. There are diagrams in the manual of the A-S700.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes it would be compatible with any Yamaha receivers that have an RCA pre-amp output. You would then use RCA cables to connect the two pieces together. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
We have Bose 301 speakers. Would like to keep using them. Want a new system with wifi, etc. Will this amp work with the sonos and these speakers? We tried this set up before using a rotel a-12 with not so good results.

Just to clarify my previous answer, if you already have 301s and you're also thinking about buying an amp, such as the Yamaha, then your configuration is not ideal. Yes, all three components would in theory work together, but you're using two pre-amps (Connect and the Yamaha). Thus, you'll end up with two volume controls, two sets of EQ, and it would just be a waste of money. So the answer here is that you should go one of three ways with a Sonos rig: 1. Sonos Bridge plus Sonos Connect in addition to a power amp (Look at the NAD C 245BEE - not an integrated amp like the A-S700). 2. Sonos Bridge plus Sonos Connect AMP in addition to just your speakers. No need for the A-S700 or anything else. 3. Sonos Bridge plus Sonos Play 1, 3, or 5 speakers. The Play 5's will blow away your Bose 301's because each speaker contains 5 speakers including a powered subwoofer. So for the roughly price of a Yamaha A-S700 (which you don't need) you could get two Play 5's and configure them as a stereo pair.

First, you need a Sonos Bridge to talk to all your Sonos devices. The Bridge controls everything, so you need one. Next, if you want to use your own speakers, then you need a Sonos Connect Amp. This device will will with pretty much any small to mid-sized speakers. 301's would be fine. So, in summary, you need: 1 Sonos Bridge 1 Sonos Connect Amp Internet (obviously)

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your system I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.
