About the Yamaha AX-497
Yamaha designed the AX-497 integrated amplifier to deliver superb sound from a wide variety of music sources, both digital and analog. It drives 85 watts of dynamic, full-bandwidth-rated power to each of your stereo speakers to provide clear, undistorted sound even during your music's most demanding peaks. Wide-range frequency response lets you experience all the details on your LPs, CDs, and even high-resolution SACDs and DVD-Audio discs in stereo mode. Yamaha's engineers have taken extensive care with every aspect of the AX-497's design and construction to maximize audio performance, including direct modes that bypass the tone, balance, and loudness controls to provide the cleanest signal possible.
The '497 offers enough inputs to connect 6 audio components, including a turntable. Two sets of main speaker outputs let you connect an additional pair of speakers. You also get a remote that gives you easy control of the amplifier and the other Yamaha audio components in your system.

Features
ToP-ART/High Current Amplification: Yamaha uses the ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) design concept, which combines the latest and best technologies, parts, and circuit designs, to maximize sound quality. High Current Amplification uses superior quality components from input to output to achieve high current power with low impedance.
High-Quality Power Amplifier: With 85 watts of power per channel (at 8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.019% THD), the AX-497 delivers solid, reliable audio performance even when driving both A and B speaker systems at the same time.
Wide-range Frequency Response: The amplifier's wide-range frequency response, 10Hz to 50kHz, allows you to enjoy the full fidelity of any source with two channel analog outputs.
CD/DVD Direct Amplification: The CD/DVD Direct Amp feature routes the CD/DVD signal directly to the unit's specially built-in amplifier, bypassing the input selector, bass, treble, balance, and loudness controls. This eliminates any alteration to the CD/DVD signal and produces the purest possible sound.
Pure Direct: The Pure Direct feature bypasses the bass, treble, balance, and loudness controls for the best sound from any source.
Impedance Switch: The AX-497 has an impedance switch, allowing operation with 4, 6 and 8 ohm speakers.
Independent Bass And Treble: The amplifier features independent bass and treble settings to increase or decrease your speaker system's low and high frequencies +/10 dB.
Loudness: The amount of loudness compensation is adjustable, using a rotary knob on the front panel.
Record Out Selector: This feature lets you listen to one source, while feeding a different source to the Tape and MD outputs for recording.
Remote Control: The main remote control can operate the amplifier as well as other remote control capable components from Yamaha.
Inputs and Outputs Notes
Speaker Terminals: All of the amplifier's speaker terminals are binding posts. They are not 5-way binding posts because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs and there is no good spot for a pin connector. Bare wire, single banana, and dual banana plugs are compatible.
Headphone Jack: The amplifier has a standard 1/4" headphone jack on the front panel for private listening. When headphones are plugged in, the amplifier's speaker output is not muted, so remember to turn the A and B speakers off.
Phono Input: The RCA phono input is designed for moving magnet (MM) or high output moving coil (MC) turntable cartridges. If you have a low output MC cartridge an in-line boosting transformer or moving coil head amplifier is necessary. The amplifier features a ground terminal connection to reduce noise level in some turntables.
Tuner Input: This unit features a stereo RCA input for connecting an AM/FM tuner since the AX-497 is not equipped with a built-in tuner.

Nice integrated preamp-amp. Drives speakers well, plenty of inputs for new and old sources. No complaints after first few weeks of use.
