Yamaha knows high-quality sound — they're the world's leading producer of musical instruments. Now they've applied their years of experience and know-how to develop the CD-S1000 — a Super Audio CD player designed from the ground up for top-notch audio reproduction.

Heavy-duty build quality for crystal-clear sound

You'll immediately appreciate the CD-S1000's solid feel and refined looks, created by its vibration-fighting metal and wood chassis. The die-cast aluminum disc tray also combats resonance, and employs Yamaha's Silent Loader mechanism for super-smooth and quiet operation.

The CD-S1000's power supply has four separate sections — one apiece for the digital circuitry, analog circuitry, motor drive, and display. This arrangement minimizes cross-interference that can degrade sound quality. The left and right channels each have their own power circuits and digital-to-analog converters, enabling this player to produce detailed, neutral sound with superior stereo separation.

Plays your Super Audio CDs and more

Pop a Super Audio CD into the CD-S1000 to experience the robust, densely layered sound this high-resolution format delivers. This player can also help you rediscover classics from your CD collection by revealing subtle nuances you may not have heard before. It even plays home-burned discs, plus your MP3 and WMA compilations. No matter what you're listening to, you'll enjoy ear-pleasing sound that's warm, lifelike, and above all, musical. And with a push of a button on the front panel, you can engage Pure Direct mode, which turns off the display and digital outputs. Eliminating these two potential noise sources lets you experience the clearest possible audio reproduction.

Features

Overview: The Yamaha CD-S1000 is a single disc SACD player with both analog and digital outputs.

Separate Digital And Analog Power Transformers: The Yamaha SACD player features a four-part power supply with separate windings for digital and analog circuits.

Aluminum Front-Panel And Specially Designed Feet: The SACD player features a aluminum front-panel for added stability and heavyweight feet to suppress noise and vibrations.

High Precision CD Drive: The CD-S1000 features a newly developed high rigidity silent loader and high precision CD drive to offer exceptional performance and reliability.

Symmetrical Circuitry: The Yamaha single disc SACD player utilizes twin differential D/A converters and separate power circuits for each channel for high conversion precision with low noise.

Disc Compatibility: The Yamaha CD-S1000 supports playback of SACD, CD, CD-R, and CD-RW discs.

Note: SACD playback is stereo only; multi-channel playback is not supported.

Super Audio CD: Super Audio CD use a technology called Direct Stream Digital (DSD) to convert music into a digital signal that can be stored on a disc. Compared to the traditional PCM method (the technology used for CD), DSD offers a much higher resolution by following more closely the original waveform of music. With a frequency response of over 100kHz and a dynamic range over 120dB across the audible frequency range - some 64 times higher resolution than CD - Super Audio CD offers music reproduction that reveals details you just cannot hear on a normal CD.

SACD/CD Switch: This feature allows you to switch the playback layer of a hybrid SACD between SACD or CD.

MP3/WMA Playback: This single disc CD player supports MP3 (32-320kbps) and WMA (48-192kbps) playback on CD-R and CD-RW discs compatible with ISO9660. The unit can recognize up to 648 folder and files (combined) and up to 299 folders.

LCD Display: The Yamaha CD player features a front-panel LCD display that shows the current status of the unit. You can select from elapsed time of the current track, remaining time of the current track, or the remaining time of the disc. You can also temporarily display the filename of your MP3/WMA files and CD Text discs. The front-panel display offers 3 brightness settings.

Pure Direct: The CD-S1000 CD player features a Pure Direct mode which improves audio quality by bypassing any unnecessary circuitry for the analog outputs.

Remote Control: The Yamaha CD-S1000 single disc CD player comes with a full-function IR remote control for wireless operation of the unit. The remote has a range up to 20 feet with an angle of 30-degrees to the left and right of the unit's front-panel IR eye.

Playback Modes: The CD-S1000 offers the following playback modes.

  • Program: You can customize the playback order of up to 24 track store on an SACD or audio CD.
  • Random: You can play back tracks in random sequence from an SACD or audio CD.
  • Repeat: You can play back a single track or all tracks repeatedly from an SACD or audio CD.

Search Functions: The CD-S1000 offers the following search functions.

  • Direct Search: You can enter the desired track number for an SACD or Audio CD using the numeric keypad (0-9) on the remote control.

  • Advance/Reverse: You can rapidly advance or reverse through a track on an SACD, audio CD, CD-R/RW.

Analog Outputs: The CD-S1000 features a pair of gold-plated analog Stereo RCA outputs on the rear-panel for SACD, CD, and CD-R/RW discs.

Q
I purchased this player and have it hooked up. However, when I touch the front panel I get a tingling sensation. The tingling happens even when it's turned off. If I unplug it, then I don't feel the tingling. I don't experience that with my other equipment. Is there something wrong with my unit?
lorne  Mar 03, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Loren. I would contact technical support on this issue. If you purchased this from Crutchfield, you have lifetime technical support for this product. Their number will be on your shipping confirmation email from us. If it was purchased elsewhere, contact Yamaha at 800-292-2982.

Q
Does the model offered on Crutchfield have a voltage selector? I am looking for the international version 50/60Hz, 110/230-240V.
wojciech  Apr 17, 2023
1 answer
A
The model we carry is designed for the U.S. and Canadian markets and only supports 120V/60Hz.
zachary  Apr 17, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Does this CD Player playback WAV sound as well, can you also play DSD format music through the player too?
chris  Apr 11, 2023
1 answer
A
You cannot, Chris. This single disc CD player supports MP3 (32-320kbps) and WMA (48-192kbps) playback on CD-R and CD-RW discs compatible with ISO9660. There is no WAV or DSD playback capability, I hate to deliver bad news!
bo  Apr 12, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can you confirm the dimensions? Depth is listed at 18 15/16 while depth on the Yamaha product site is listed at 17 5/16.
jonathan  Oct 18, 2022
1 answer
A
The 17-5/16" is the depth without the power cord or any of the other cable. The 18-15/16" we have listed takes into account the extra depth you would have to take into account with any extra cabling.

Q
Does Yamaha CDS1000 play HDCDs?
carl  Apr 06, 2022
2 answers
A
It will certainly play any cd, but with the absence of the HDCD trademark visible anywhere on the player I doubt that it has the proprietary Microsoft software and circuitry to extract the extra resolution within the HDCD encoding. That said, my experience with this player is that you likely won't miss the feature when you hear what this unit can do with even 1st generation cd's.
michael b  Apr 07, 2022
A
I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BYHDCDS. IT PLAYS SUPER AUDIO CDS STEREO AND SUPER AUDIO CDS SURROUND SOUND. /SACD NOT HDCDS

It is made (and very well I might add) in Malaysia.

Q
Is the thin CD drawer flimsy ?
michael  Apr 26, 2021
2 answers
A
No it is perfect
gary  Nov 15, 2021
A
Not at all. The entire unit is surprisingly heavy and feels built like a tank. While the drawer is thin, the smooth operation makes far less noise than traditional mechanism, making the entire affair feel quite substantial.
jim  Nov 13, 2021
Q
The thin little CD drawer , is it sturdy ?
michael  Apr 26, 2021
9 answers
A
Yes, but it's fussy about centered placement. It doesn't have the conventional ring tray for the CD to sit in, rather small rubber like guide ramps to center the disc. Operation is super smooth, stable and elegant. Just make sure the CD is centered.
jesse  May 04, 2021
A
Very. The transport is the quietest and smoothest of any CD player I have used. Quality build.
perry  Apr 26, 2021
A
Plenty sturdy, but as with any CD drawer, one would be prudent not to lean on it or put a lot of downward pressure on it.
dan  Apr 26, 2021
A
Yes very sturdy
chhaisun  Apr 26, 2021

I had the CD player for one week it was very well-built and sounded great the drawer was a little on the weak side and then after a week I cannot get the drawer to open I returned the unit and was refunded very quickly great customer service I ended up getting the Marantz 30n it was twice the money but I've always had good luck with Marantz products as far as the sound I feel like the Marantz had the edge although the Yamaha was very good I hope this helps have a great day Ted.
theodore  Apr 26, 2021
A
Yes, this a very well built CD player.
alan c  Apr 26, 2021
A
Yes very sturdy and smooth, I would recommend this unit
gary  Apr 26, 2021
A
Yes! Made of metal.
ronald  Apr 26, 2021

like everything else as it will last as long as you take care of it

Q
Why does it show different finishes on the side. In one picture it shows what looks like dark wood in another it appears to be light maple finish?
lt2001  Feb 29, 2020
3 answers
A
My guess is the black face plate has the dark side pieces (I have the black one), so the light colored side pieces will go with the silver face plate. Or, you could go the the Yamaha site and submit a question to them.
john  Feb 29, 2020
A
Mine is a dark wood with a beautiful piano finish, that's what you would get.
craig  Feb 29, 2020
A
My unit has dark wood finish on both sides.

Q
Does this player play SACD multi channel? and does it play SACD through the digital connections?
thomas  Nov 08, 2015
3 answers
A
I don't know I never use sacd
gary  Nov 15, 2021
A
When the sacd layer of a disc is playing its output is only through the analog out jacks. Also, I believe this is a stereo only player; according to the owners manual audio signals recorded in dsd multi-channel format cannot be played on this unit.
tomas  Nov 09, 2015
A
The CD-S1000 has L&R RCA analog out. It does have a digital coax and optical out which may support multi-channel material. I have never explored this.
