Started out strong, then faded away

I purchased this player about a year and a half ago. Initially it was a great player. Over time the DVD tray would get hung up and not want to close. I have had the unit freeze multiple times, which required unplugging to get it to shutdown. Just recently the display has started to only show one horizontal line across the entire display. I am dissapointed to say the least.

Great unit

Over the past year I went through quite a few dvd and cd changers. I purchased both a Yamaha DVD C750 and DVD C961 from another dealer. BOTH of them froze on me within the first hour of use. I then tried the Denon DVM1845. Sound and picture are both excellent. However as a cd changer it is poorly designed. I should not have to program a changer to go to the next cd when a cd is finished playing. Then I tried the Denon DCM 290 and 390 cd changers. They don't sound bad but the DVM 1845 sounds far better than both of them. Now I decided to try the DV-C6860. This is the one I should have bought in the first place! Soundwise it is just as good as the Denon DVM 1845. I use it mainly as a cd player because I have the Sony BDP S350 blu ray player that I use to play dvd's.
Crutchfield customer service is second to none! Thank you Adam for finally pointing me in the right direction.

Good video playback, but slow
Written By

I'll be the first to admit I bought this player probably expecting a bit too much out of it for the price. I bought the unit to replace my aging Denon 5 disc CD changer and a DVD player that was having problems.
First, the positive attributes:
Video playback quality is great, which is of course the most important attribute for this type of unit. I have had virtually no issues with disc playback in the seven months I've owned it, which certainly was not the case with the old player. Additionally, the setup menus are straight forward and well laid out.
On the negative side:
I find the unit to be frustratingly slow in operation. From opening up the disc carousel to switching discs, the unit just doesn't respond quickly. I recognize some of this is due to the fact that the unit must determine what type of disc format it is playing back, but I still find the responsiveness of the unit lacking.
As for audio, a number of the reviewers have indicated that their CD's sound great. I just recently purchased a new Denon DCM-290, which I find sounds much better. The high notes in particular are much crisper w/ the Denon, but again it cost me $249 dollars for a separate unit. If you don't do a side by side comparison yourself, you may not have any complaints.

Plays everything without skipping or freezing - great changer
Written By

I previously owned a DVD AT-724 and Sony DVD-VCR D261P and have been disappointed with both. Both players freeze and skip when playing home DVD's (I have Tivo and transfer TV shows to my computer to burn on DVD) and sometimes even original DVD's. I'm pretty good with computers and understand there are many variables which would cause the skipping (video file, disc brand, author software, burn software, dvd player, etc). However, all these discs play on my computer and so I figure there must be a DVD player out there which would also play these discs and EVERYTHING else I threw at it. I also was looking for a player with an easy to use remote (unlike the Sony D261P), quick load times, and under $200. For the money, this player is the best you can buy, especially since it's also a 5-disc changer! I've been using it for almost 30 days now and have thrown almost every DVD and CD I have at it without causing it to skip a beat. Sure....there are others with more features, but the Yamaha 6860 gets an 'A+' with all it's features. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I will!

I have had this player for about a month and am very happy with it. My cds sound great, it is quiet and I love the all disc shuffle mode. The picture quality for dvds is excellent too. It was very easy to set up and not complcated to operate. It beats my old player in every way. I couldn't believe how fast Crutchfield delivered this to me, Thanks.
