Very, very pleased with this Yamaha receiver. Clean and simple design...delivers sound to my Bose 301s just perfectly. Uncomplicated and easy to use. Loving the remote as well.

One fine stereo receiver. from Evansville, IN on 5/18/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The R-S201 was the perfect selection for me. I have it paired with Klipsch SB 3's. I am simply running my old 500# Sony tv no cable, no frills and a Sony dvd/vhs combo. I have a set of cables devoted to Spotify laying on top of receiver to plug into my laptop when I'm ready to jam. The remote is an added bonus when I'm feeling lazy or just scanning through the channels. I am 59 and am amazed at the value. Incredible product for the price. Arrived in perfect condition in 3 days. Easy set-up. Just a good looking receiver with Crutchfield's seal of approval. Why bother to shop further and get caught up in an onslaught of brands making life complicated? Old school and a happy camper!

Pros: Simplicity at its finest. Just a well thought layout.

Cons: None to date.

Great value for the price

George H from Dennisville NJ on 4/28/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to set up from connecting speakers to setting presets on the Tuner. I live in a bad reception area very pleased at the number of stations the Tuner recognizes. Amplifier section delivers, It has enough power to run a pair of Dahlquist DC-10's that alone is worth the price. If your looking for a basic Receiver or a replacement for your old one the Yamaha R-S201 is a great value.

Pros: Easy set up, Tuner reception, Amplifier strong enough to make a pair of power hungry Speakers sound good.

Cons: None so far, Yamaha has a good reputation so I don't expect any reliability issues.

Complete satisfaction

Luis from Caguas, PR on 4/3/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Placed the order, shipped & delivered as scheduled; packaging was appropriate. I bought it to enhance the audio on a bedroom TV, with a pair of speakers. The result is more than expected; clear sound either low or high volume. Easy to use remote control. Highly recommend this product.

Pros: Clear sound on high/low volume. Easy to use remote control. Looks great.

Cons: None.

Stereo Perfect

Swiger WoodWorks, LLC from Jefferson, MD on 4/3/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This "stereo" receiver was the idea replacement for the old Kenwood receiver in my wood working shop. Stereo capability is all I need in my shop and this receiver does a fantastic job. I have it connected to a set of Pioneer bookshelf speakers and this receiver is able to on base tones. I've also coupled it with an AirEnabler and now can play my music from iTunes on my computer. I couldn't be more pleased with this product: simple to setup and operate.

Pros: Great product in its price range. Simple to setup and operate. Remote control is simple to use and has good range.

Cons: None, unit works as advertised.

Crisp and clean

RWT from grand rapids, MI on 3/8/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As you can always expect with Crutchfield the packaging and shipping are first rate. The unit itself has a very crisp and clean sound, very pleasant for listening to NPR or sports broadcasts over the radio. For my taste the sound is a bit bright for listening to music for any extended periods, but that is not why I bought this unit. I paired it with a Terk FM amplifier and it is a fantastic combination. The FM auto-preset tuning worked well and very fast. It's really a nice little unit at a price you can't beat.

Pros: Crisp and clean sound, inexpensive, nice finish, no frills.

Cons: A bit bright. Dimensionally this unit could be smaller.

Yamaha R-S201

SC Guy from Aiken, South Carolina on 11/24/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This receiver replaces a wonderful 30-year-old Harman-Kardon 3500 that was showing its age. I was afraid of the low price but the more expensive ones seemed to be wi-fi ready which I didn't need since I have an Apple Airport Express base station jacked into it. This receiver gets what seems to me like perfect reception from iTunes streaming and from my captive computer library. That it needs a pre-amp to play from a turntable is an issue but I can record vinyl directly into a computer and upload to my iTunes library that way. I chose this R-S201 over the R-S300 because it's more powerful (100 watts per channel) since it must power 6 pairs of speakers downstream throughout our whole house network.

Pros: Price, power, performance

Cons: None so far . other than the turntable issue

I have to say I am impressed with this amplifier. I was looking for something to power up a set of speakers for outside on my deck. It is pretty simple as far as the amp itself but it dose the job. I hooked it up to the Definitive technology 6500 out door speakers. Sounds great definatly more than I expected. Great price to power up for some speakers.

Pros: Great price, simple controls, dose the job

Cons: really none at this time.

Great basic two channel receiver by Yamaha. Plenty of power to drive my pair of Klipsch Ref-II speakers. Sounds great , from low end through midrange with clear detailed highs. The volume knob feels high quality due to the damping incorporated into the mechanism. Nice clear display and intuitive to operate. Very pleased with this unit !

Pros: High quality and solid Yamaha sound. Like the damping incorporated into the volume knob. Plenty of power to drive a pair of stereo speakers.

I bought this to replace a failing and ancient Onkyo 40 Watt receiver for use in my garage. I was looking for a receiver for music & talk radio while working but occasionally to crank up at the end of the day. For the money, it works fine.

Pros: Good clear sound, inexpensive, simple interface and excellent reception for both FM and AM.

Cons: Lacks bass. My old Onkyo would put it to shame.

Yamaha RS201BL

thelog from Minnesota on 4/5/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this unit because I thought it would allow me to get enhanced volume from my TV set without adding a 5.1 theater system and 5 or 6 speakers (which I'm not set up for). I ran the cable box audio out to the receiver's CD input (haven't tried any other inputs). This works but need to have the volume at about 60 to get audio that is louder than the TV sound. However, can't use both (TV and receiver audio) without an echo. There is a slight processing delay in the cable box. I just mute the sound on the TV using the remote. Most of the time the TV audio is OK So far this has been a decent receiver. I'm powering some very old Pioneer CS-33's (A output) and CS-88's (B output) speakers. Both pairs are 8 ohms. I've used them individually and together (A+B) and this receiver has no problem driving them. Volume of 50 is a reasonable listening level, 60 is loud and 70 is uncomfortable loud and it was the same whether running one or both pairs. Auto tune for preset stations (FM) didn't seem to work well at all. If I set up to do this it seemed to skip over more than half of the stations even though manually scanning found all of the stations. I 'm using a UHF antenna located in the attic with a 300 to 75 ohm transformer balum (which has losses). However, the stations that is skips over on the auto-tune preset are some high power stations. Since I can tune them in manually I don't know why it's missing/skipping them. Not sure what parameters are being used during this operation.

Pros: Simple to set up. Very good output power. Minimal distortion. Reasonable treble and bass range. Not a huge amount but enough that you can hear the differences. Good bang for the buck.

Cons: Auto tune preset doesn't work very well. It seems to skip over strong FM signals (haven't tried AM set up yet). Even when the channels have been selected and placed sequentially in memory, unless I'm doing something wrong, you have press the preset up/down button to get to the channel you want. It would nice to have the option to be able to enter in the discrete channel. This might be the cost factor that limits that option.

MJK from Mississippi on 2/20/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I cant attest to,how many years i will get out of it, but i got it last year and cranked it pretty much right after getting it to my Cerwin Vega 12" 3/ways. The surround on. One of them tore up and i just got around to re-foaming it and letting it cure. The sound quality is pretty good, at least to 50-60 so far as im going to take it easy and try to break-in the new foam surround.

Pros: Has nice options such as plenty of presets, good FM reception, a nifty sleep timer, plenty of hookups for TV or cable, Dvd/Cd, etc........only other two channels ive found are sony and insignia at best buy. I dont care too much for Sony and ive been wanting a Yamaha as ive owned their motorcycles. I also have a Kenwood home receiver and have had car stereos and am wanting another.

Cons: Still not cranking out enough power for my CVs, but it is only a hundred watt receiver, just cannot seem to find a 150wX2 or 200X2 at all, much less for a decent price so this will have to,do and hopefully I can get good car audio components that will satisfy the LOUD and Bass ive lacked since i was young.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver to replace an aged RX-550. (After more than 20 years, the 550 was starting to have a few issues with the input selector, though it works great otherwise.) For my use - in my office with low demand for volume or fidelity - it's absolutely terrific. I wanted the most simple receiver I could find and this one fit the bill. I cannot imagine better performance or features for the money. The FM tuner works great and sounds good. I'm impressed.

Pros: Clean, crisp sound Streamlined look Easy to navigate features Great FM tuner Low price

Cons: None ... this is a great buy.

Yamaha R-S201

USAFarmer from Tennessee on 12/28/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am extremely happy with this stereo reciever amp. Clean crisp sound with plenty of power for what I need. Easy to use with all the basic functions. Lot of bang for the buck!!!! 02.18.2015 - Update to my review. I have used this receiver/amp for some time and find it extremely useful and versatile. I saw a review that said it was not good in some frequency responses and I think this is more their speakers than the Yamaha amp. I have it bi-wired to a pair of PSB Alpha T-1s and it drives them brilliantly with full frequency response. Clean crisp sound. I also play the MP3 files from my computer which has a cheap sound card and Beats Audio using the headphone out jack to the RCA in on the receiver, the same for my 55 inch smart TV with it set to analog, and get excellent results. It does not have a dedicated sub-woofer out on it but most sub-woofer manufacturers make models with wire-threw connections which you can use. I use a Yamaha 8" front firing sub-woofer with mine and get excellent results. The PSBs don't need it for music but I like it for movies and gaming and you can turn it off without having to unhook it. I play classical to classic rock through this amp and it drives the PSBs superbly. The FM tuner pulls in stations my stereo receiver never got and plays them excellently. This is a lot of amp for the money. When my friends come over the first thing they want to do is play their iPhone music using the headphone out to the RCA in on the amp and speaker set-up I use and it plays them wonderfully. Full rich clean crisp sound. The only con of this amp, if you can call it that, is it needs about 60% volume to get conversational level sound out of it. At 70 to 75% it is room filling and 80% is party level with 85% the police knocking at my door for noise complaints. Thank you Crutchfield

Pros: Easy to use. Clean crisp sound.

Cons: None

Good garage receiver

Daddy O from San Antonio, TX on 11/15/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver to replace a 15 year old Aiwa bookshelf stereo I was using to drive some three way speakers. The cabinets have 12'' Kicker subs that the Aiwa was barely moving, however it has a built-in bass boost and this made up for its lack of juice (unsure what the specs are on it). I figured this receiver, with its bass and treble eq's and 100 wpc, would really make them hum. I was incorrect. Don't get me wrong, the sound this receiver puts out is very "natural" - it even says so right on the front! I was simply expecting a little more punch in the low frequencies, but even with the bass turned up to 10 it still falls short of that old Aiwa. On the other hand the highs and mids sound great and are very well-balanced, and I feel my music sounds a little better. The receiver itself is attractive enough and best of all will happily drive four speakers at the same time. I have a set of old Pioneer CS-B1000's that I'm running on the B channel and this Yamaha is more than loud enough for me with all four speakers going. If the bass was simply a little louder I would happily give this receiver 5 stars, and actually feel a little guilty about giving it only 4. If you're on the fence about this or the Sony don't hesitate to pull the trigger on the Yamaha, I'm confident you will be happy with your purchase.

Pros: Looks good, sounds good. Can power 2 sets of speakers at the same time without a problem. Can get loud enough to make your wife mad and annoy your neighbors. Outstanding FM reception. Shout out to Sonny who helped me settle on this receiver, Crutchfield has excellent customer service!

Cons: Not enough bass!!! And no it's not my speakers. Remote has decent range but must be pointed DIRECTLY at the receiver to work.

Quentin from Edgewood NM on 10/26/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a great Yamaha receiver from the Seventies that finally went the way of all flesh and electronics. I didn't know where to turn for a low cost replacement. Crutchfield provided a great solution with this item. I thought that paying less than I had in the seventies would give me reduced performance, but I was pleasantly surprised at the great fidelity and tuner sensitivity. I just use a turntable, radio and occasionally an Ipod. Tuner and I pod I have to run through a preamp (only downside, but doable). y old Hartley Zodiacs sing. Great shopping experience.

Pros: Price, build quality, ease of use.

Cons: A preamp would have been nice, but for the price this is understandable.

Exactly as advertised. Bought it for a new shop--great sound for the money. Have nothing bad to say.

Pros: ease of use, sound quality, controls

Cons: Have to volume to 55 before you can hear it- not a bad thing though

Great product, easy to use. Powerful for an amazing price. Multiple inputs and outputs. I only wish it had built in Bluetooth.

Great product, especially for the price

I pulled it out of the box, attached the speaker wires and turned it on. It pulls in weak stations well and sounds great with my mp3 player.

Pros: Easy to set up, sounds great.

Cons: Could be more powerful, but plenty to drive the speakers I am using.

Great amp with excellent power. I am using the amp with some 35 year-old ESS Monitor speakers and they sound great. This is a simple bt powerful amp. Exactly what I was looking for. I couldn't be happier.

Pros: Simple with a lot of power!

Cons: None

Great amp for the money, clean sound great antenna supplied with the product. Loved it so much I bought 2.

Pros: Wonderful price, clean clear sound, looks very modern easy to navigate and work never gets hot even at loud volumes.

Cons: Not quite as much bass punch as a more expensive unit but easily compensated with a small subwoofer.

Good receiver

Cons: No sub-woofer port.

decent for the price

Anonymous Prime from Edmonton on 5/30/2014

I got this because I didn't want to buy a home theater receiver. I wanted it for some turntables and a CD player. I needed something simple and not too jazzy. I bought it and I'm mostly happy with it. Not sure if I set it up wrong or the speakers are bad. I have it paired up with some Polk Audio M10's. But at when the volume is at 50, I hear nothing. I can ever hear the cracks and pop from my records just spinning. When the volume is at 85 I can hear the music. But its not that impressive. Hopefully I set it up wrong or the speakers have malfunctioned right out the box. I'll keep tinkering with it

Pros: Great face Simplicity/ user friendly Good and sturdy build

Cons: Unsure of the volume loudness

It is exactly what I needed, however, the front is all black and the buttons are difficult to see.

Cons: The front of the receiver is all black in color and difficult to see.

Solid product

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A great product for the price. Sound nice. Only drawback is no input for iPhone music... However, I hooked it up to RCA jacks for input and works, though I do need to keep iPhone volume turned up to get enough input to use with receiver... Overall, I would purchase again and price makes it a nice purchase.

Pros: Great price Easy to operate You get solid product for price

Cons: Does not have apple input... but then you are not paying higher price for the input :-)

Very happy with Yamaha R-S201

Keith from Pittsburgh, PA on 4/4/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am old school. I bought this Yamaha R-S201 to replace my 25-year-old Nakamichi receiver that finally died. I use this for listening to CD's only. Not hooked up for "home theater". I have the receiver teamed up with a Onkyo TX-8255 CD player and my old JBL HLS610 speakers. I am very happy with the sound. Very crisp, clean, good highs, mid tones and sufficient bass. I listen to a wide variety of music, but mostly blues, classical, 60's rock. Bass could be better, but I just adjust the bass up some. I don't see the need for a woofer as I'm not a hard rocker or metal fan. My only mild complaint is that the volume knob seems flimsy compared to the rest of the unit and it has a digital readout for the volume, bass and treble adjustments. Like I said, I'm old school, I would prefer the old style 1-10 scale. Other than that, I love this unit and am very impressed by the great sound for a very reasonable price.

Pros: Sound, value.

Cons: Digital volume, bass and treble readout instead of scales.

It does the job I bought it for.

DaveG from St. Paul, MN on 3/24/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While this receiver/amp does has exactly the features I wanted - and couple more as a bonus - the button labels are impossible to read as it sits on the shelf above my computer monitor. Gray on black may be stylish, but functionally it was frustrating until I memorized which button did what. As Ogden Nash once wrote: "Here's a good rule of thumb: Too clever is dumb."

Pros: Fine performance at a modest price. Nicely illuminated display of settings with digital volume readout.

Cons: Very poor control labels, being tiny and of low contrast compared to the black front panel.

My Onkyo receiver blew out after about 7 years - weird because I just used to play records/cd's in my small art studio room. Got the Yamaha and I am so far very pleased. Just what I needed - nothing fancy but looks to be solid and excellent quality.

Pros: Sturdy, simple design, and I like the remote!

Cons: If you need it for a larger space - might not be powerful enough. But for my needs - it is just right.

Average budget receiver.

John from Chesterton, IN on 2/12/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For what it is, it's ok, nothing special, specs are exaggerated/played with leading you to think you're getting more than you really are. As I said for what it is it's ok but so is Sony's budget receiver or anyone else's you care to try. I knew this going into this purchase and this is basically to be used as a TV/Video stereo amp to power external speakers and for the wife to use for music. Why this over the Sony? Solely looks for me, from a distance it looks higher end, not plastic even though the face plate is plastic.

Pros: Cheap, Money wise. Looks like it has a brushed aluminum face plate and volume knob. If the kids tear it up your not out allot, would make a decent garage or workshop receiver.

Cons: Cheap, build wise. Don't expect allot from this amp, Sound quality not great, I would classify it as fair at best.

Looks and sounds like a much more expensive receiver. I'm using it with a yamaha CD player. The sound is clear and lovely. No problem tuning into the local public radio station. I was amazed to find that it can drive my inherited 40 year old Bose 901 loudspeakers.

Pros: Easy to use. Easy to set up.

Cons: Power button is so well integrated that it can be hard to find in low light.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice basic stereo

Pros: price and features- the inputs work well with my cassette player and my ipod touch.

Cons: does not pull in radio stations very well, you must use your own antenna if your any distance from the station-my 25 year old pana boombox pulls in stations better. seems lacking on power, you must have the volume above 50 to even hear it- driving 150w polk floor speakers. none of this has been a deal breaker for me, but I wish i had spent more money for a more powerful stereo- so i will keep it.

Yamaha R-S201 Receiver/Amplifier

Frank B from Venice, Florida on 12/2/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A good unit for those that want to play their music and don't need to put a fancy amplifier with suround sound with their TV. There is plenty of power to drive my large Kenwood 6-way speakers with good sound and plenty of volume. I use both speaker outputs driving both the indoor Kenwood's and my outdoor KLH's. I can use the outputs seperately or together. This unit was easy to install and I use Imput 1 for my wireless receiver antenna to play MP3 music from my computer. I've used both the CD imput and the computer music to test the system with fine results. I may use the other two for other devices in the future. A good piece of equipment without the high cost of fancy features.

Pros: A basic, no frills tuner amplifier. It replaced my over-complicated surround sound amp that quit. All I do is play CD's and pipe in MP3 music from my computer. This unit has enough power (100W) per side to drive my large 6 way speakers and produce a good sound with plenty of volume. It also has connections on the back for two sets of speakers, which I use. Good basic unit, not expensive and fine for enjoying my music.

Cons: Very plain black face. Not easy to read button and knob lables. Reasonable lighted information window to see which settings are made. Must read manual to program FM stations before use. (Still need to do)

Yamaha R-S201

John D from Southold NY on 11/23/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The first thing that caught my eye was that when I lifted up the case, I could see right through the receiver! Yamaha really took the concept of chassis cooling seriously with this unit. It had cooling vents all over the top, bottom and sides of the case. There was a large heat sink running across the middle of the interior and this was a very good sign to me. The published specs are 100 watts per channel minimum RMS output power at 8 ohms impedance from 40 Hz to 20Khz with .2% THD. This receiver does not have a phono input, and if you do want to play vinyl you will need either a turntable with an internal phono amplifier or use an external phono amplifier. The inputs are: CD, Line1, Line2, Line 3. Line 3 also has an audio out connection and can be used with a CD recorder or cassette recorder.. The R-S201 is not a high current capable receiver and needs to be used with only 8 ohms or higher impedance speakers. My speakers are the AR 215PS models. Rated at 8 ohms impedance, 89 Db. efficiency with a response of 75-20,000 Hz, and they were a good match for the Yamaha R-S201. The Yamaha R-S201 gave excellent performance with no residual noise. The sound was clean and clear and the receiver was able to fill my living room with enjoyable sound at a setting of 51 on the volume control which has a 100 maximum. It has a good appearance and is a no frills, no nonsense receiver that can give very enjoyable sound.

Pros: Excellent performance for the price. Special thanks go to Crutchfield for their excellent shipping policy.

Cons: External antennas will be needed for FM/AM in rural areas

100 Watt x 2 Channel Amplifier: The Yamaha R-S201 stereo receiver employs a 100-watt x 2-channel (40-20kHz, 8-ohms, 0.2% THD) high-drive amplifier with a high sound quality design that minimizes the length of signal routes and optimizes the circuit layout. Yamaha positioned the power transformer near the power amp circuit to reduce power loss, while improving peak power supply capacity to enable high volume output. The signal ground and power supply ground are connected at one point, eliminating mutual interference to achieve a higher S/N ratio. The result is sound filled with clarity and a feeling of openness.

Analog Inputs/Output: The Yamaha R-S201 features four analog stereo RCA inputs to connect up to four audio components, and a single stereo RCA record output to connect to a CD-recorder or other recording device.

AM/FM Tuner: The Yamaha R-S201 stereo receiver features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. The R-S201 lets you store up to 40 AM/FM station presets. Auto preset lets you automatically search for and register FM stations that can be received in your area. An indoor FM wire antenna and AM loop antenna are included with the receiver.

A & B Speaker Terminals: The R-S201 is fitted with A & B speaker terminals so you can power up to two pair of speakers. The speaker selector switch on the front-panel of the receiver makes it easy to switch between speaker outputs, allowing you to hear the sound from one speaker pair (A or B) or from both speaker pairs (A+B). In addition, compatible speakers can be bi-wired using the A & B speaker terminals simultaneously (they are wired in parallel). The eight spring-clip speaker terminals that will accept bare wire (up to 12AWG) and  pin-connectors.

Speaker Connection Speaker Impedance
Speakers A or B 8-ohm or higher
Speakers A and B 16-ohm or higher
Bi-wiring 8-ohm  or higher

Headphone Jack: The stereo receiver has a standard 1/4" headphone jack on the front panel for private listening. When headphones are plugged in, the receiver's speaker output is not muted, so remember to turn the A and B speakers off.

Tone Control: The Yamaha R-S201 offers Bass, Treble, and Balance adjustment. Bass & Treble can be adjusted independently from -10dB to + 10dB. Balance can be set between Left+10 and Right+10.

Max/Initial Volume: You can set the maximum volume level of the receiver so that its volume will not be accidentally increased above a certain level (01-99, Max). Use the Initial Volume feature to specify the volume level when the receiver's power is turned on. You can select 01-99, Max, Mute, or Off. When "Off" is selected, the volume level used when the receiver was turned off will be applied.

IR Remote: The included IR remote control provides wireless operation of the stereo receiver and a connected Yamaha CD receiver.

Sleep Timer: Use the Sleep timer to automatically set this unit to standby mode after a certain amount of time (30/60/90/120 mins). The sleep timer is useful when you are going to sleep while listening to the receiver.

Power Management: A power management function automatically cuts off the power (switches to standby mode) when the receiver has not been operated for a long time. It can be set to two, four, eight or 12 hours, or off. In addition, power consumption during standby is only 0.5 W, achieving good energy saving performance.

No you can run only one channel at a time channel B is for another set of speakers in another room you still get 100 W per speaker on A or on B but not at the same time . That is the way I have understood it to work, hope this helps. [ john  Mar 14, 2016 ]

I am not sure. The guys should be able to tell you. I have only one set of speakers set up to A &B. Get a look at the back of the receiver & it should help you to see if you can do what you want. Although this is an ok receiver there was another I was looking at more powerful. Since this was going in an area where I didn't need more than one pair sound is good. This is an entry level analog stereo unit. It has no digital inputs because the additional circuity would drive up the cost of manufacturing. Sorry James, A turntable requires a phono preamp to boost the audio up to the proper level and also equalize the turntable audio to the RIAA curve. Since this receiver only has line level inputs you will need an external phono preamp or a turntable with a built-in preamp. [ JOHN  Feb 18, 2015 ]
No, a pre-amp is not needed for any input (cd player, iPod, etc.). [ JAMES  Nov 30, 2014 ]
Hey man, there are 4 inuts . One is labeled CD, the other three are labeled 1, 2, and 3. It is also a tuner. Pretty clean sound . I do not have a turntable hooked up but do not see why you couldn't. Can't remember if you have to hook up a ground or not but sound easy . Best wishes [ TRAVIS  Nov 22, 2014 ]
There are 4 inputs, but none are specific for Phono. You will likely need to buy a phono box to convert the signal for a turntable. Crutchfield sells the pro-ject phono box for around $100 [ ROBERT A  Nov 22, 2014 ]
Only the "general" model has a switchable power supply. You will need to check with your dealer to see if it is available in your area. The Yamaha receivers are made in Maylasia. In the US, the American model is made for this area. You can purchase a 240v to 125v adaptor. Hope this helps! [ JOHN  Nov 04, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This is the North American model that would use a 120v supply. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Nov 03, 2014 ]  Staff

Yes [ JEROME H.  Jun 13, 2014 ]
Yes! [ DAVID  Jun 13, 2014 ]
I'd like to know why I have to turn the volume up to over "60" and I still get a muffled sound like the speakers are under a couple of pillows - and I'm using decent Yamaha speakers. The Crutchfield tech people told me it is just the way the receiver is made these days. It's sitting in the box after trying to get it set up. What a piece of junk. [ JACK C  Jun 13, 2014 ]
Yes. Pushing both a and b buttons causes both pairs of speakers to play simultaneously. [ DAVID  Jun 12, 2014 ]
Yes [ TIM  Jun 12, 2014 ]
Yes [ JAMES  Jun 12, 2014 ]
We have no problem with our unit. Very pleased with it. [ RALPH  Jun 12, 2014 ]
Mike, my guess is no. The R-S201 is a great receiver for the money, but money is the key word. You get what you pay for. This unit has only RCA jacks for inputs/outputs such as AUX, CD, TAPE, etc. I'm not familiar with ATT U-Verse, but may require something similar to a USB or HDMI type connection like your newer flat screens for an output/input connection. If it has RCA outputs your good. My suggestion is if you are wanting to use your receiver to interconnect with your other newer hi-tech equipment, go ahead and spend the bucks for a more hi-tech receiver or you will be limited to what you can easily do. Hope this helps. [ HOYT  Jun 06, 2014 ]
I don't' know the answer. It's a basic receiver and I use it for audio only. [ Craig  Jun 03, 2014 ]
No. This stereo(2 Outputs) only have rca inputs, you need a stereo that have a decoder for internet normally are marketet as pandora, pioneer have some very inexpensive ones for $200 or $300 but they are not very powerfull in watts [ ALAN  Jun 03, 2014 ]
Sure, if your cable box has RCA jacks to feed stereo, you can feed to one of the three inputs on the R-S201. I feed my cable audio and my Grace Wi/Fi internet radio to the Yamaha also. No problem, and it sounds great. [ JOHN  Jun 03, 2014 ]
This receiver is recommended for 8-ohm or higher speakers. If your speakers are 6-ohm I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine which receivers will work and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget. [ Jeff  Jan 27, 2014 ]  Staff
Hi Ryan, I'm sorry, but the manual specifically warns against using two pairs of 8 ohm speakers at the same time even if one pair is on A and the other pair is on B. BUT... there does seem to be some confusion in the manual which also says "this does not apply to the USA" So perhaps it's OK if the speakers are small, such as ceiling speakers. Frankly, I would contact Yamaha customer service and ask them. If you are concerned about running power into 4 ohm loads, a better choice might be the R-S300 receiver which does have a 4 ohm setting and can easily handle the load you mention. Hope this helps. John [ JOHN  Jan 14, 2014 ]
Yes. There are 2 channels and two speakers per channel for a total of 4 speakers, all at 8 ohm impedance. [ DAVID  Jan 13, 2014 ]
Yes channel A & B can be used together or separate [ EDWARD  Jan 13, 2014 ]
Yes you can. I do it all the time. I listen to streaming audio from Tune in Radio. Sounds good. Just get the Y audio cable that was mentioned earlier... [ WILLIAM  Dec 18, 2014 ]
I have a I-pod shuffle. I use a 3.5 mm / RCA cable to connect to the Yamaha R-S201 receiver using your output connection for your headphones. Great choice, a very good sounding receiver. The cable I use is a Belkin Y Audio Cable P97095. I hope this helps. [ Timothy  Jan 11, 2014 ]
I don't believe so. There are no inputs for MP3 player format., only basic inputs on the back of the unit for a CD player and three standard inputs for other devices using a standard RCA plugs. Perhaps if you have a CD player that has in input for your iphone connector. Yyou can play it from the CD player to the Yamaha receiver. I had looked at other receivers and there are more complex units that have a front mounted input for iphone's. This unit is not for people that are looking for playing more modern electronics or HD TV's with surround sound. [ FRANK  Dec 13, 2013 ]
Sorry, but I do not possess an iphone . The first chance I get I will ask a friend to connect his phone to my Yahama Receiver to check this out, but however, So far my receiver works great in all phases!!!, ---Floyd E.--- [ FLOYD E  Dec 13, 2013 ]
John, I don't really know, but I think any device will connect using 'Line in'. The techs at Crutchfield should know for sure. The Yamaha R-S201 is a nice unit. Good Luck, [ TONY  Dec 12, 2013 ]
yes, add a common 1/8" 3.5mm cable to stereo RCA and enjoy your music with better clarity! [ CARLTON  Dec 12, 2013 ]

No,you can't hook up iphone to this receiver. [ Pedro  Dec 12, 2013 ]
if you have a dual RCA > mini plug adapter - you can. Just did it today. There is not a docking point - or a straight mini plug point. great receiver for the price! [ JEFF  Dec 12, 2013 ]
I did it with a cable. The phone output is a little low, but it sounds pretty good. I would consider a blue tooth adapter that would make it wireless. I think some of them let you control volume as well. Good luck [ PATRICK A  Dec 12, 2013 ]
This unit does not have a pre-amp level subwoofer output. If you would like to see if there may be a way to connect a subwoofer to this receiver, or see what other options there might be, we have Advisors available 7-days a week to help. [ Jeff  Dec 09, 2013 ]  Staff
