About the Yamaha R-S700
Solid Yamaha power for stereo lovers
Solid Yamaha power for stereo lovers
The Yamaha R-S700 is designed for people who like spending time listening to music. Yes, there's an input for a turntable, and a tape deck. Of course, there's an input for a CD player. But this receiver has a few other cool tricks up its sleeve, too.
Luxurious CD sound
Lots of us still like listening to music on CDs. This receiver's CD Direct Amplification feature creates a balanced internal signal path to boost the CD input's signal-to-noise ratio for better detail and clarity in your music.
Little details matter
Heat is the enemy of clean sound. The R-S700 features tandem heat sinks for more efficient cooling so your favorites sound like they were meant to. And the gold-plated speaker terminals and RCA jacks ensure high-quality, corrosion-free connections.
And to increase your listening space this receiver offers dual zone capability so you can connect and power speakers in another room and even control the system with a second included remote (IR repeater required, not included.)

Audio Features
ToP-ART/High Current Amplification: Yamaha uses the ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) design concept, which combines the latest and best technologies, parts, and circuit designs, to maximize sound quality. High Current Amplification uses superior quality components from input to output to achieve high current power with low impedance.
High-Quality Power Amplifier: With 100 watts of power per channel (at 8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.019% THD), the R-S700 delivers solid, reliable audio performance even when driving both A and B speakers at the same time.
Wide Frequency Response: The receiver's wide frequency response, 10Hz to 50kHz, allows you to enjoy the full fidelity of any source with two channel analog outputs.
Dual Zone Capability: The R-S700 allows you to play two different analog sources in two zones. The receiver has a pair of stereo preamp outputs for Zone 2. You can control the receiver from the second zone using the supplied Zone 2 remote control when an infrared signal repeater system is used. A separate amplifier or stereo receiver with a pair of speakers, or a powered speaker system is required for zone 2.
Loudness: The amount of loudness compensation is adjustable, using a rotary knob on the front panel.
CD Direct Amplification: The CD Direct Amp feature routes the CD signal directly to a specially built-in amplifier, bypassing the input selector, bass, treble, balance, and loudness controls. This eliminates any coloring of the CD signal and produces the most accurate sound. The resulting signal to noise ratio is 107 dB.
Pure Direct: The Pure Direct feature bypasses the bass, treble, balance, and loudness controls for the best sound from any source.
Record Out Selector: Front panel rotary knobs let you listen to one source, while feeding a different source to the Tape and Line 1 outputs for recording.
Speaker Terminals: All of the receiver's speaker terminals are binding posts. They are not 5-way binding posts because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs and they are too far apart for dual banana plugs.
Bi-Wire: Compatible speakers can be bi-wired using the A and B speaker terminals simultaneously (they are wired in parallel).
Impedance Switch: The R-S700 has an impedance switch, allowing operation with two pair of 6 ohm speakers.
Pre Out/Main In Loops: The left and right preamp outputs are connected to left and right main amp inputs, respectively, with U shaped metal jumpers. The jumpers may be removed to facilitate the connection of an equalizer or external amplifier.
Phono: The RCA phono input is designed for moving magnet (MM) turntable cartridges. If you have a moving coil (MC) cartridge a phono preamp is necessary.
Subwoofer Output: The stereo receiver is equipped with a mono-subwoofer output for connecting a powered subwoofer.
Headphone Jack: The receiver has a standard 1/4" headphone jack on the front panel for private listening. When headphones are plugged in, the receiver's speaker output is not muted, so remember to turn the A and B speakers off.
Max Volume Adjustment: Use this feature to set the maximum volume level (separate settings in the main zone and Zone 2); used to avoid turning the volume too loud by mistake. You can set the Max Volume from -30 dB to +15 dB in 5 dB steps, or to +16.5 dB (full volume range is -89.5 dB to +16.5 dB).
Initial Volume Setting: Use this feature to specify the volume level when the power is turned on (separate settings in the main zone and Zone 2); choose between Off (same as the volume when the unit was turned off), Mute, and -89.5 dB to + 16.5 dB in 0.5 dB increments.
12V Trigger Output: A programmable mini-jack output sends a 12-volt DC turn-on signal (0.1A max) to another component that accepts a 12-volt trigger, such as a CD player or amplifier to power Zone 2. The trigger is programmed either to work with a specific zone (main room, Zone2, or either) or a specific source.
Power Management: The power (main room and Zone 2) can be set to turn off after a specific amount of time without any adjustments being made; options include 4, 8, or 12 hours.
Sleep Timer: The sleep timer turns the receiver off after 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes.
Remote Control
RAX25 Remote Control: The main remote control can operate the receiver as well as other remote control capable components from Yamaha and other manufacturers. The remote is pre-programmed with control signals for other brand TVs, VCRs, DVD player/recorders, Blu-ray disc players, DVRs, cable boxes, and satellite receivers, along with Yamaha CD player/recorders, MD player/recorders, tape decks, and LD players.
RAX28 Remote Control: The Zone 2 remote allows you to turn the second room output on/off, select the source, adjust the volume, and control the AM/FM tuner, SiriusConnect tuner (optional), or iPod dock (optional) from the second room when an infrared signal repeater system is used.
Remote Jack: The receiver has two mini-jack inputs and a mini-jack output for use with other compatible components.

Yamaha RS700 was easy to hook up. It replaced an old pioneer that was still working. When I began to listen to the 700. I realized how much more clarity and volume I was getting without taxing the unit. My speakers that I pound are Cerwin Vegas. Sub being Infinity. I would recommend this unit.
