Our take on the Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A1030

by David Brown
Yamaha

Receivers: Your ticket to sensational sound

Your receiver powers your speakers and lets you connect and select your entertainment sources. But a great receiver does a lot more — it ignites your emotions. From the passion of a favorite musical artist, to the crossfire of a super-charged movie soundtrack, to the intensity and immersion of a fast-paced video game, your receiver is the key to experiencing and enjoying it in full.

Hear how good home theater can sound with AVENTAGE

Yamaha RX-A830 AVENTAGE 7.2-channel home theater receiver with Apple AirPlay

Don't underestimate the importance of killer sound in your home theater. Yamaha doesn't — that's why they designed their AVENTAGE receivers. The RX-A1030 combines sophisticated construction with easy-to-use features, so you can get the most from your music and movies. With audiophile-grade components, flexible multi-zone setup, and loads of connections, the 'A1030 can breathe new life into your home theater speakers.

Powerful multi-room capabilities

If you have a second HDTV and an extra set of speakers, then the 'A1030 has the power and flexibility to feed audio and video to two rooms at once. With connections for up to 9 speakers in total, plus 2 subwoofers, you can have a 7.2-channel home theater in one room and a stereo system in the other — both powered by this versatile receiver.

Yamaha's Intelligent Amp Assign makes switching between zones a breeze. As soon as you power on Zone 2, the 'A1030 automatically redirects the signal from your "surround back" speakers in the main zone to the Zone 2 speakers. So you can still enjoy enveloping 5.2-channel surround sound in your main room while listening to a different song in Zone 2. Or fire up Party Mode to send the same signal to all speakers so both rooms are bouncing to the same beat. For video, a dedicated HDMI output for a second room means you can send video from your Blu-ray player in Zone 1 directly to your TV in Zone 2. That means you can play different movies from different sources in both zones at the same time.

Designed with your ears in mind

Yamaha goes the extra mile for excellent sound in its AVENTAGE receivers. The RX-A1030 uses an audiophile-grade ESS SABRE digital-to-analog converter, which decodes the latest high-resolution audio formats with accuracy and detail. Your digital sources like Blu-ray discs and lossless music files will sparkle with definition and life in stereo and surround sound. Independent power supplies for analog and digital circuitry help prevent interference between the two, for purer audio signals. And the symmetrical power amp layout isolates the circuitry for the left and right channels, for a high signal-to-noise ratio and a wide soundstage for stereo music listening.

Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A730 home theater receiver with Yamaha A/V Controller app for iOS, Android, and Kindle Fire

The free Yamaha A/V Controller app gives you easy touchscreen control over the RX-A1030 with your smartphone or tablet.

Apple AirPlay and other streaming music options

When you connect the 'A1030 to your home network, you'll open up a whole world of digital music. With built-in support for Apple AirPlay, you can send music from your iPhone®, iPad®, or computer running iTunes® directly to your receiver for playback. If you subscribe to Spotify® or Rhapsody®, you'll enjoy built-in support for their huge music libraries as well. Plus you can stream music from Pandora® or tap into thousands of free radio stations worldwide via vTuner. Yamaha's Compressed Music Enhancer helps give MP3s and other digital music more depth and detail. AirPlay requires a wireless home network and a wired connection between the receiver and network or a wireless connection using the optional Yamaha Wi-Fi adapter.

A sight for sore eyes

If it's been a while since you last bought a receiver, then the 'A1030's setup and control features will be a welcome improvement. The on-screen guide is full-color with lots of graphics for easy navigation — a far cry from the bare-bones black-and-white menu screens of just a few years ago. Plus, the free Yamaha A/V Controller app provides sophisticated touchscreen control over a wide range of functions from your Apple® smartphone or tablet, Kindle Fire™, or other Android™ device.

4K, 3D, and MHL®-ready

The RX-A1030 is prepared to take on the latest and greatest digital sources. The front-panel HDMI input is MHL-compatible. That means you can connect your MHL-compatible Android tablet or smartphone to send music and HD video through your receiver for playback on your home theater system. Plus, the 'A1030 supports 3D and 4K pass-through, so it can handle today's 3D Blu-ray players and as well as upcoming Ultra HD content as it arrives.

    Audio Features

Aventage Series: The Aventage line of Yamaha AV receivers is based on the audio design concept of providing a massive, full-bodied sound for movie sound effects and the accurate reproduction of music sources. By expertly harmonizing traditional and advanced technologies, every factor that affects sound quality, from materials & parts construction to circuitry layout, vibration damping, and "fine-tuning" the sound, is handled with no other thought than to achieve the best possible audio quality. As a result, every Aventage receiver has the ability to reproduce the most subtle details of high-definition sound, so that listeners can enjoy a truly high-class sound studio experience at home.

    • High Drive Amp Technology: A fully discrete power amplifier helps maximize sound and minimize distortion of the receiver. The Yamaha RX-A1030 AV Receiver is equipped with a 7-channel amplifier rated at 110 watts (into 8-ohms, at 20-20kHz, with 0.06% THD, driving 2 channels) which provides high dynamic power with low-impedance drive capability.
    • Symmetrical Power Amplifier Layout: The interior of the unit has been precisely planned, circuit-routed and built so that the left & right channels are physically and electrically isolated. This naturally maximizes channel separation, but also greatly improves signal to noise ratio and helps to achieve a wide, open sound stage.
    • Professional Quality DACs: The Yamaha RX-A1030 uses ESS Sabre Premier 192kHz/24-bit DACs (ES9006) for all channels to produce professional quality digital audio with exceptionally good signal-to-noise ratio and up to 120dB of dynamic range. The AV receiver also utilizes low-jitter PLL circuitry to help optimize sound imaging. The result is a more dynamic sound with greater detail and less distortion.
    • Aluminum Front Panel: The aluminum front panel is used to effectively shield sensitive circuitry from external noise and electronic energy generated by dimmer switches, fluorescent lighting, video monitors and so on. This ensures optimum sonic performance in the widest range of installation environments.
    • A.R.T.: The A.R.T. (Anti-Resonance Technology) Wedge 5th foot is in the center of the unit. It dampens vibrations from the power transformer, power transistors and heat sinks, as well as vibrations that might be caused by the sound from the speakers. A.R.T. Wedge 5th foot helps ensure that vibrations do not affect the sound quality.  The AV receiver also employs anti-vibration heatsinks to suppress vibration from transistors and sound pressure.
    • Double Bottom Construction: An additional bottom cover is added for additional support and to improve sound performance at higher volume levels and also support the power transformer and heat sinks.
    • Independent Power Supplies: Independent power supplies are used for the receiver's analog and digital circuitry to prevent digital noise from affecting analog circuitry. These power supplies are highly efficient and result in less power consumption in standby mode.

Intelligent Amplifier Assignment: Intelligent Amp Assignment automatically assigns amplifier channels of the Yamaha AV receiver to certain speakers depending on what functions are selected. You can select from a variety of amplifier configurations.

    • Basic: In this configuration, up to nine speakers (Front L/R, Front Presence L/R, Center, Surround L/R, & Surround Back L/R) can be connected to the AV receiver. When Cinema DSP 3D is on, the two Front Presence speakers will be powered and not the two surround back speakers. When Cinema DSP 3D is off, this situation is reversed. Bi-amp and Zone 2 speakers are not available in this mode
    • 7ch + Zone 2: In this configuration, up to nine speakers (Front L/R, Center, Surround L/R, Surround Back L/R, and Zone 2) can be connected to the AV receiver. When Zone 2 is off, all seven channels will be used in the Main Zone. However, when Zone 2 is on, power to the two surround back channels will be directed to the two speakers in Zone 2 and the Main Zone will receive five channels of power. The same or different analog input sources/volume settings can be applied to both zones. Multichannel sources are mixed down to 2-channels and output to Zone 2. Bi-amp and Front Presence speakers are not available in this mode.
    • 5ch Bi-Amp: Up to five speakers (Front L/R, Center, & Surround L/R) can be connected to the AV receiver. The Surround Back amplifier channels of the AV receiver are reassigned to bi-amp the front speakers. A bi-amplification connection uses two amplifiers for one speaker. One amplifier is connected to the woofer section of a loudspeaker while the other is connected to the combined midrange and tweeter section. With this arrangement each amplifier operates over a limited frequency range, making its job easier. Zone 2, Surround Back, and Front Presence speakers are not available in this mode.
    • 5ch Bi-amp+SB: The receiver powers five speakers in the main room (Front L/R, Center, and Surround L/R) with the surround back amplifier channels used to bi-amp the front speakers. Using the receiver's multichannel preamp outputs, the surround back speakers are powered by an external amp. Zone 2 and Front Presence speakers are not available in this mode.

YPAO R.S.C. (Reflect Sound Control): YPAO-R.S.C. analyzes room acoustics and measures various speaker characteristics, then calibrates audio parameters to achieve optimum sound. It employs Reflected Sound Control to correct early reflections for studio-quality sound. It also provides DSP Effect Normalization, which varies the CINEMA DSP parameters according to the reflected sounds. Yamaha's YPAO-R.S.C. system uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters; such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers, and even the volume level; until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room. Using the supplied Optimizer Microphone, YPAO performs the following checks and makes appropriate adjustments to give you the best possible sound from your system:

    • Speaker Wiring: Checks which speakers are connected and the polarity of each.
    • Speaker Size: Checks the frequency response of each speaker and sets the appropriate crossover frequency for each channel.
    • Speaker Distance: Checks the distance of each speaker from the listening position and adjusts the delay of each channel.
    • EQ: Each channel has a parametric equalizer; choose one of three target settings before running the setup.
      • Natural: adjusts all speaker to a natural sound; useful when the flat setting sounds too bright
      • Flat: use when all the speakers in the system have similar sound characteristics
      • Front: EQs the center and rear speakers to sound like the front; useful when your front speakers are better than the others in the system
    • Volume Level: Checks and adjusts the volume level of each speaker.

Note: You can also choose to manually adjust the AV receiver's speaker settings.

Multi-Channel Decoding Formats: The Yamaha RX-A1030 supports the following multi-channel (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic) decoding formats.

Note: Dolby Digital and DTS listening modes can only be selected if your audio source is connected to the A/V receiver via a digital audio connection (HDMI, optical, or coaxial). To enjoy true 7.1ch Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS-HD surround sound, the receiver must be connected to your Blu-ray player via HDMI.

Surround Parameters: The Yamaha AV receiver offers the following Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS NEO:6 audio adjustments.

    • Dolby Pro Logic II Settings: You can adjust the following parameters in Pro Logic II Music modes:
      • Panorama: sends stereo signals to the surround speakers as well as the front speakers for a wraparound effect
      • Dimension: adjusts the soundfield either towards the front or towards the rear of the room
      • Center Width: moves the center channel output completely towards the center speaker or towards the front left and right speakers
    • Center Image (DTS NEO: 6 Music): This parameter adjusts the front left and right channel output relative to the center channel to make the center channel more or less dominant as necessary.

Cinema DSP Soundfields: Conventional multichannel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha Cinema DSP is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent soundfields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects ideally located in these separate soundfields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and realistic presence. It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater. The AV receiver offers 17 Cinema DSP programs for movies, music, and games.

    • Movie Soundfields: Standard, Spectacle, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Drama, Mono Movie
    • Entertainment Soundfields: Sports, Action Game, Role Playing Game, Music Video
    • Music Soundfields: Hall Munich, Hall in Vienna, Chamber, Cellar club, The Roxy Theater, The Bottom Line, 7ch Stereo
Note: You can change the receiver's Cinema DSP effect level (level of the soundfield effect to be added). You can adjust the level of the soundfield effect from -6 dB to +3 dB.

CINEMA DSP Parameters: You can adjust the following parameters of the Cinema DSP modes.

    • DSP Level: You can change the receiver's CINEMA DSP effect level (level of the soundfield effect to be added). You can adjust the level of the soundfield effect from -6 dB to +3 dB.
    • Delay: Adjusts the delay between the direct sound and the presence soundfield (1-99ms), surround soundfield (1-49ms), and surround back soundfield (1-49ms).
    • Room Size: Adjusts the broadening effect (0.1-2.0) of the presence soundfield, surround soundfield, and the surround back sound field.
    • Liveness: Adjusts the loss (0-10) of the presence soundfield, surround back soundfield, and surround back soundfield.
    • Reverb: Adjusts the delay time of the rear reverberant sound (1.0-5.0s), the delay between the direct sound and rear reverberant sound (0-250ms), and the volume of the reverberant sound (0-100%).

Cinema DSP Modes: The Yamaha RX-A1030 AV receiver offers proprietary Yamaha Cinema modes so you can enjoy your movies and music even more in your home; regardless if you are using Presence Speakers, only have a two-channel speaker system, or listening through headphones.

    • Cinema DSP 3D: The actually measured soundfield data in recorded soundtracks contain the information of the height of the sound images. CINEMA DSP 3D mode achieves the reproduction of the accurate height of theses sound images so that it can create the accurate and intensive stereoscopic soundfield in your listening room. Cinema DSP 3D does this by using the receiver's Presence (height) Speakers or the Virtual Presence Speaker mode.
    • Virtual Cinema DSP: Virtual Cinema DSP is an algorithm that allows you to enjoy DSP soundfield surround effects while using a minimal two-speaker system. Virtual Cinema DSP lets you enjoy the effects of Cinema DSP surround sound without using surround speakers (handy for use in custom installations where some rooms don't have surround speakers). It can be used with the front/center/presence speakers or even with just the two front left and right speakers. This unit will switch to virtual Cinema DSP mode automatically when surround speakers are unavailable.
    • Silent Cinema: Silent Cinema makes it possible to hear large-scale surround sound through ordinary headphones. This is a variation of Cinema DSP technology that Yamaha developed to let you listen in private to movies and other multi-channel sources for hours without listening fatigue.

HiFi Sound Modes: The Yamaha RX-A1030 offers two HiFi audio modes which bypass the receiver's tone & DSP processing for higher sound quality performance. These HiFi sound modes lets you play back input sources without any soundfield effect processing. When either of theses modes are enabled, each speaker produces its own channel audio signal (without soundfield processing). When playing back 2-channle sources, such as a CD player, stereo sound is heard from the front speakers. When playing back multichannel sources, the receiver produces unprocessed multichannel surround sound.

    • Straight: 2-channel stereo sources are output from only the front left and right speakers, while multi-channel sources are decoded straight into the appropriate channels without any additional tone or DSP processing.
    • Pure Direct: Turns off the surround and tone circuitry, dims the front-panel display, and cancels AV output to allow sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors of this unit so you can enjoy pure hi-fi sound from 2-channel or multi-channel sources. During Direct playback no sound is output from the subwoofer

Compressed Music Enhancer: Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3, WMA, and AAC. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original as possible.

Dialogue Lift & Level Adjustment: Dialogue Lift raises the sound of dialogue from the center speaker to a position in the center of the screen. Newly developed virtual dialogue lift achieves dialogue lift function even without the need for presence speakers. Dialogue Level Adjustment lets you control the volume of the vocal sound, so you hear movie dialogue and music vocals at the ideal level for clear, comfortable listening.

Dynamic Range Control: The Yamaha RX-A1030 employs two Dynamic Range Control functions.

    • Adaptive DRC: Adaptive DRC automatically adjusts the dynamic range of the sound according to the volume level. This ensures that you hear clear dialog, vocals, and all sound effects at comfortable levels. There is no need to adjust the volume level as you listen; everything from whispers to big explosions will be heard clearly and comfortably at the same volume setting. It also tones down loud TV commercials and is ideal for low-volume, late-night listening when you do not want to disturb others.
    • Dynamic Range: The amount of dynamic range compression applied to bitstream signals is adjustable; Min/Auto is suitable for low volume listening, Standard is typical for home use, and Max doesn't compress the dynamic range at all.

Bass Management: The Yamaha RX-A1030 AV receiver provides the following Bass Management settings.

    • Bass & Treble: You can adjust the balance of the high-frequency range (Treble) and low-frequency range (Bass) of sounds output from the receiver' front left and right speakers to obtain a desired tone. You can independently adjust the bass (50Hz) and treble (20kHz) from -6dB to +6dB in 0.5 dB increments. The tone control of the speakers or headphones can be set separately.
    • Extra Bass: You can select whether to play front channel low-frequencies through either of the front speaker or the subwoofer, or through both the subwoofer and front speakers.
    • Subwoofer Trim: The Subwoofer Trim control enhances the low frequencies by avoiding overlap with the front speaker output. This will result in a cleaner, more focused sound stage while providing a seamless frequency response. When subwoofer frequency overlap occurs in conventional systems, the overall sound is "pushed" toward the subwoofer. Subwoofer Trim takes care of this by separating the low subwoofer frequencies cleanly, thus stabilizing the front stage while providing a well-balanced enhanced bass sound.

Volume Setup: The Yamaha RX-A1030 allows you to customize the receiver's volume levels.

    • Max Volume Adjustment: Use this feature to set the receiver's maximum volume level. This feature is useful to avoid turning the volume too loud by mistake. You can set the Max Volume from -30 dB to +15 dB in 5 dB steps, or to +16.5 dB (full volume range is -80 dB to +16.5 dB).
    • Initial Volume Setting: Use this feature to set the volume level when the power is turned on. You can choose between Off (same as the volume when the unit was turned off), Mute, and -80 dB to + 16.5 dB in increments of 0.5 dB.
    • Volume Trim: Use this feature to adjust the volume level of each input. This is useful to balance the level of each input to avoid sudden changes in volume when switching between input sources. The range is from -6 dB to +6 dB in 0.5 dB increments.

Audio Inputs/Outputs: The Yamaha RX-A1030 offers a variety of analog and digital audio inputs/outputs.

    • Digital Inputs: The Yamaha AV receiver is equipped with four optical digital inputs (3 rear/1 front), three coaxial digital inputs (rear), and one optical digital output (rear).
    • Stereo RCA Jacks + Phono Input: The receiver is also equipped with nine stereo RCA analog audio inputs (8 rear/1 front), a single stereo RCA analog audio record output, and a stereo RCA Zone 2 output; as well as Phono input (MM) for vinyl playback.
    • 7.1ch Analog Input: This unit has a discrete 7.1-channel analog input for connecting DVD-Audio and Super-Audio CD players or an external decoder.
    • 7.2ch Preamp Outputs: The A/V receiver features 7.2-channel pre-amp outputs (Front L/R, Center, Surround L/R, Surround Back L/R, and Dual Subs) for connection to external power amplifiers.
    • Speaker Terminals: The receiver has binding post terminals for all speaker channels (Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back/Bi-Amp, and Zone 2/Presence). The binding posts can accept bare wire, pin connectors, and single banana plugs. These terminals are spaced too far apart for dual banana plugs and a collar surrounding them prevents the use of spade connectors. You can select 8 ohms or 6 ohms in the menu depending on your speaker application. The amplifier supports 4- to 8-ohm Front speakers, and 6- to 8-ohm Center and Surround speakers.
    • Headphone Jack: The Yamaha RX-A1030 is equipped with a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack for connecting a set of headphone, so you can listen to your music privately. Connecting a set of headphones automatically mutes the receiver's speaker outputs. Sound effects applied during playback can also be heard through the headphones.

    Video Features

8 HDMI Inputs/2 HDMI Outputs: The Yamaha RX-A1030 AV receiver is fitted with eight HDMI (v.1.4) inputs and two HDMI (v.1.4) outputs to deliver crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video signals. The two HDMI outputs can be set to display the same video signal or the second HDMI monitor output can be assigned to Zone 2 for the display of two different HDMI sources; simultaneously. The HDMI 1.4 jacks support 1080p and 4K video signals; as well as 3D video and ARC functionality. Deep Color (30/36 bit), x.v.Color, and auto Lip-Sync compensation is also supported via HDMI. The AV receiver's HDMI jacks support 2-channel and multi-channel linear PCM (up to 8-channel) and Bitstream (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc) digital audio formats.

    • 4K Pass Through: 4K Pass Through allows the Yamaha RX-A1030 to receive super high-definition resolution video and pass the video signal to a 4K compatible TV or display monitor. This ensures compatibility with the latest super high resolution video formats.
    • 3D Ready: The Yamaha RX-A1030 AV receiver supports 3D HDMI pass-through from connected 3D-compatible Blu-ray, games and broadcast devices to 3D-compatible HDTVs (all 3D components must be connected via HDMI). 3D provides a more engaging audio and video consumer experience. Note that special eyewear may be required for viewing 3D content
    • ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.
    • Deep/x.v.Color Support: The AV receiver supports Deep Color and x.v.Color content, which can display a larger color range than standard-definition schemes. The result is a more lifelike, vibrant picture
    • LipSync: This function adjusts the delay between audio and video output. You can do this manually or have the receiver set the LipSync function automatically. When connected to a TV via HDMI the receiver automatically adjusts audio output timing (0-500ms) if the TV supports an automatic LipSync function. You can also manually delay the sound output up to 500ms to synchronize it with the video image.

Note: When you output a video signal from both HDMI outputs simultaneously, the receiver outputs the video signal at the highest resolution that both TVs connected to this unit can support. For example, if you are have connected a 1080p TV and a 720p TV, the receiver will output 720p video through both HDMI outputs.

MHL-Compatible HDMI Port: One of the receiver's eight HDMI inputs is on the front-panel and MHL compatible. This MHL compatible HDMI port provides easy, direct connection of MHL compatible smartphones. Playback of up to 1080p video and multi-channel audio from the phone is supported. The receiver will also charge your connected phone. Play, Stop, and other basic operations can be controlled from the AV receiver's remote control.

HDMI Standby Through Mode: When the RX-A1030 is in standby mode (power off), the Standby Through feature allows HDMI source signals to pass through the receiver to the TV. The HDMI input can be changed using the remote control. So, there's no need to turn on the A/V receiver in order to switch HDMI sources.

Analog Video: The RX-A1030 AV receiver offers component, composite, and S-video analog video jacks.

    • Component Video: The RX-A1030 offers four component video inputs and one component video monitor output (which can also be assigned to Zone 2). These jacks have a frequency response of 5 Hz to 60 MHz and will pass High Definition video sources up to 1080p.
    • Composite: The receiver features five composite video inputs (4 rear/1 front), one composite video record output, and one composite video monitor output (which can also be assigned to Zone 2).
    • S-Video: The receiver also features four S-video inputs, one S-video record output, and one S-video monitor output (which can also be assigned to Zone 2). These S-video jacks support 480i only.

4K Video Upscaling: The Yamaha RX-A1030 is capable of outstanding upscaling and i/p conversion quality. This AV Receiver will upscale video signals from analog (up to 1080i)-to-HDMI and HDMI-to-HDMI, up to 4K. This means a much better picture with HDTVs capable of 720p, 1080i, 1080p, or 4K resolution.

Edge Adaptive Deinterlacing: In ordinary deinterlacing, pixels in areas of movement are interpolated by upper and lower ranges. This causes jaggies in diagonal lines. Edge adaptive deinterlacing detects the direction of the line and interpolates the pixels optimally.

Background Video: The Background Video feature allows you to watch a video source while listening to a different audio source. With the RX-A1030, you can select any video input, and listen to AM/FM radio or select songs from a USB device at the same time.

    Network & Tuner Functions

Ethernet LAN Port (optional WiFi): The Yamaha AV receiver is fitted with a RJ-45 Ethernet (LAN) port to connect the receiver to your home network to access your DLNA music server, or Internet Radio. There is also a rear-panel USB type-A port (5V/0.5A) that allows you to connect Yamaha's YWA-10 wireless network adapter (022YWA10, sold separately) for a wireless network connection.

DLNA 1.5/Windows 7 Certified: The RX-A1030 is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) 1.5 and Windows 7 compliant for audio networking. Firmware updates normally take approximately 20 minutes or longer. The test A/V receiver contained firmware version 1.03 (as of 6/6/2013). Check Yamaha's Support Download Site for the most recent firmware updates.

    USB/iPod Integration

USB Port: This AV receiver is equipped with a front-panel USB (type-A) port that allows you to enjoy MP3 (up to 48kHz/320kbps), WMA (up to 48kHz/320kbps), AAC (up to 48kHz/320kbps), WAV (up to 192kHz/24-bit), and FLAC (up to 192kHz/24-bit) music files from a USB mass storage class memory device; such as your Android smartphone, portable MP3 player or USB thumbdrive (not compatible with USB HDDs). Your USB mass storage class device must be formatted in FAT 16 or FAT32 . You can use the receiver's on-screen menu (via HDMI) and remote control to navigate your stored music files on your connected USB memory device. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the AV receiver's USB port (5V/2.1A); even in standby mode.

Note: While listening to a song from a USB device, you can view a favorite video or photo from the receiver's monitor output.

AirPlay: This AV receiver supports AirPlay, which means it can accept wireless music streaming from your iPod touch, iPhone or iPad; as well as from iTunes on Macs or PCs. This makes it easy to enjoy your iTunes music from your mobile Apple iOS device or computer on your home theater system. You can even view metadata such as song title, artist name, as well as album art via AV receiver's on-screen display. In addition, you can download Apple's free "Remote" application and use your Apple device as the remote control for your iTunes account.

Note: To use the AirPlay feature you need a Mac or Windows-based PC running iTunes (10.2.2 or later) connected to your wireless home network. Your iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad must have iOS 4.3.3 or later installed and connected to the same wireless home network.

iPod/iPhone/iPad Direct: The Yamaha AV receiver is fitted with a front-panel USB (type-A) port, composite video input, and HDMI port for playback of audio and video files on your iPod, iPhone, or iPad device.

    • Audio Playback: The USB (type-A) port on the front-panel provides convenient connection for your iPod/iPhone/iPad so you can listen to your stored music and music apps through the Yamaha AV receiver (use the Dock- or Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device). This USB digital connection means that the digital audio signal from your iPod/iPhone/iPad is transmitted directly to the system, minimizing noise interference and allowing use of the receiver's DAC, not the DAC in your iPod/iPhone. This results in more precise sound reproduction. You can navigate your Apple device's music via the receiver's on-screen menu (via HDMI) and remote control, or continue to use your Apple device's clickwheel or touchscreen. You can browse your iPod/iPhone/iPad's stored music content via Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, or Composer. You can also control Repeat & Shuffle functions. Convenience Features

On-Screen (GUI) Menu: The RX-A1030 offers an on-screen (GUI) menu system through its HDMI output. The simple on-screen display combines text and graphics that make setup and other operations extremely easy. If your TV is connected to the composite video or component video monitor output, you will need to use the AV receiver's front-panel display when changing settings. You can set the receiver's on-screen menu language to English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, or Chinese.

Scene Plus: The Scene Plus function simplifies operation by providing one touch power-on, along with selection of the desired source and the appropriate DSP programs. Scene Plus offers a choice of 12 Scene selections, four of which can be assigned to the second zone in a multi-zone system. Scene Plus can be selected from the receiver's front panel, remote control, on-screen GUI, and even from the Apple iOS or Android app. Pressing a Scene button will automatically launch a number of operations that initiate play of the source controlled by that button.

Multi-Source/Multi-Zone: The Yamaha RX-A1030 offers Audio/Video Zone 2 (with HDMI switching) and Party Mode (audio only) for playback of a variety audio/video sources in two separate rooms of your home.

    • Zone 2 Audio: The receiver has dedicated stereo RCA outputs for Zone 2, or the built-in amplifier can be configured to power speakers in the second zone connected to the Extra Speaker terminals, allowing you to listen to different audio sources in two different rooms of your home. By using the RCA outputs on the AV receiver you can connect an external receiver or integrated amplifier in a second room, allowing you to listen to 7.1ch surround in the main room and play a different stereo audio source in another room of your home. By using the speaker-level outputs on the AV receiver you can directly connect a secondary pair of speakers in another room of your home, allowing you to listen to 5.1 surround sound in your main room and play a different stereo audio source in the other room. When the receiver is powering speakers in Zone 2, the surround back/front height speakers in the main room are turned off (limiting you to 5.1ch in the main room). The volume of Zone 2 can be controlled by  the Yamaha receiver using either configuration or from your add-on amplifier when using the line-output. You can select the following audio sources for Zone 2:
      • Analog audio inputs
      • AM/FM Tuner (you cannot select different AM/FM radio stations for each zone)
      • USB (including iPod/iPhone)
      • AirPlay for iPod touch/iPhone/iPad/iTunes
      • Internet Radio (different network sources cannot be played back in multiple zones at the same time)
      • DLNA/Media Player contents
    • Zone 2 Video: The Yamaha receiver's composite, S-video, component, and second HDMI monitor can be assigned to Zone 2 so two different video feeds can be sent to two different displays at the same time directly from the receiver (you must connect the same video connection to your second display monitor as connected to your receiver for that particular source; there is no video-conversion or scaling for Zone 2). HDMI Zone 2 will also output audio signals (2ch only) for the HDMI input source selected.
    • Party Mode: The Party Mode allows you to enjoy the AV receiver's Main Zone audio source in Zone 2, simultaneously (regardless of input audio signal types - analog or digital). During the party mode, stereo playback is automatically selected for all zones. Both the Main Zone & Zone 2 play at the same volume level during Party mode. Utilize this function when you want to play back an audio source as background music in two rooms of your home.

Note: Optical/coaxial digital audio sources are not output to Zone 2. Unfortunately, a USB source (including iPod/iPhone) and Network connected sources (Internet Radio/Media Player) cannot be played back in different Zones at the same time.

Optional Bluetooth Module: If you are not using the AV receiver's rear-panel USB/DC-output to connect the optional YW-A10 wireless network adapter (sold separately), you can use it to connect the Yamaha YBA-11 Bluetooth wireless adapter (022YBA11, sold separately). You'll be able to stream music wirelessly from a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, tablet, or PC without a Wi-Fi environment.

Input Rename: You can rename each input so the display reflects the actual source; choose from 15 templates or create an original name, up to nine characters.

Display Dimmer: You can set the brightness of the front-panel display from -4 to 0.

ECO Mode: When the ECO Mode is enabled, you can reduce the receiver' power consumption by keeping the maximum volume, maximum output power, and front display's brightness low. ECO mode reduces power consumption by approximately 20%.

Timers: The receiver offers a programmable Sleep Timer and Auto Power Down function.

    • Sleep Timer: The receiver's Sleep Timer function can be set turn the unit automatically off after 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes.
    • Auto Power Down: If you don't operate the receiver or use the remote for an extended period of time, the unit will automatically go into standby mode (Auto Power Down function). The Auto Power Down feature is selectable from 2, 4, 8 or 12 hours.

Memory Guard: This feature is used to prevent accidental changes to the DSP program parameter values and other system settings.

    Remote Control

Multibrand Remote Control: The receiver comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of this receiver and other HDMI-connected sources (via HDMI CEC). In addition to the receiver, the remote can be programmed to control multiple brands of TVs, Blu-ray players, DVD players/recorders, DVRs, VCRs, etc.

HDMI Control: The Yamaha AV receiver supports the HDMI control function, which allows you to operate external components via HDMI. If your TV or other external components support HDMI control, you can use the remote controls of those devices to operate some of this unit's functions, and to synchronize this unit with the operation of those devices. You can use the following operations with the remote control of any of the connected HDMI Control compatible devices.

    • Power synchronization (On/Standby)
    • Volume control, including Mute
    • Changing the volume of the audio output signal device (either the TV or the receiver)

AV Controller App: This AV Controller App (free) will turn your iPod touch, iPhone, iPad or Android device into a Wi-Fi enabled remote control for the Yamaha AV receiver. This App provides the flexibility to control input, volume, mute and power commands. You can browse content from all internally available sources such as Internet Radio, USB and AM/FM tuners. You can also control all AV receiver zones such as powering on and changing input for each zone. This App not only controls the Yamaha AV receiver, it also controls Yamaha Blu-ray Disc Players, supporting various functions including Play, Stop and Forward. In addition, you can browse music stored on your Apple iOS or Android device and wirelessly transfer the content to the Yamaha A/V receiver for playback.

    • AV Controller App for Apple: The free AV controller App for Apple is available for download from the Apple iTunes App Store. It supports the iPod touch, iPhone , or iPad with iOS 4.2 or higher installed.
    • AV Controller App for Android: The free AV controller App for Android is available for download from the online Google Play. Requires Android 2.1 and up.
Note: You must have a wireless network in your home and the Yamaha AV receiver & Apple or Android device connected to the same network.

Remote Connections: The RX-A1030 offers a variety of remote connections.

    • Remote Jacks: The receiver has remote input and remote output minijack (3.5mm) terminals for use with external IR receivers and compatible Yamaha components.
    • 12V Trigger Outputs: The RX-A1030 has two programmable mini-jack outputs (3.5mm) to send 12-Volt DC turn-on signals to other components that accept a 12V trigger, such as a power amplifier or motorized projection screen. The triggers are programmed either to work with a specific zone (main room or Zone 2) or a specific source.
    • RS-232C Port: The AV receiver's RS-232C port provides seamless integration with a wide range of third-party home automation control systems.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my third Yamaha amp - my other two are still in service (18 and 10 years after purchase), and this one seems every bit as good. Sound is clear and full from my 7.1 setup. I like the SCENE feature as a quick way of turning everything on and setting the right parameters and inputs. The amp runs cooler than I expected, which is also a plus. The remote is nothing special, but the on-screen user-interface is easy to follow and responsive. The HDMI video processing works well.
    Pros:
Excellent sound. The sweet spot of price, options & power. Lots of input flexibility.
    Cons:
    Remote design could be better.

    Perfect Fit

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'll start with a bit about the set-up. I am running a 7.2 channel set-up using the Jamo S606-HCS3 5.0 Speaker set, with a Yamaha SW-315 Subwoofer. Also running 2 x Accurian AMP-5052 as Front Presence, and the second sub is an Accurian ASW-5060. This unit replaced a Yamaha RXV-667 receiver. The 667 was a bit underpowered for the set up which eventually caused it to overheat. The A1030 is barely even warm to the touch when running at the same volumes. Hooked everything up, made sure the correct speaker setting were selected, set the subwoofer cross over at 110HZ, and eventually decided to increase the dialogue lift, and level by 1 point each. Otherwise I made no adjustments to the equalizer and I am very satisfied with the sound quality. Still tweaking the subs a bit as I play around with various audio and video sources. I love the app to control the unit. Allows streaming from Pandora without having the TV on (unless you want to create a station), and gives the majority of the controls you should need after initial set up. Makes streaming music from the phone a breeze. The app does work through the network so unless you have access to the network it will not function. On that note I had zero issues connecting to my network.
    Pros:
-Set up was a Breeze -On-Screen Interface (Takes a bit to familiarize yourself but same as my previous Yamaha Receiver) -Easy to use App -Plenty of Power -Sleek Design -Good Build Quality
    Cons:
-No built in cooling fan for when the unit is pushed at higher volumes. Again it runs very cool but I installed a couple of 80mm fans on top that kick on at 84 degrees...Just in case. -Takes over network when I stream from pandora. Phones still connect ok, but my TV is unable to load it's internet options. Not an issue as typically I am using one or the other. -Neighbors might not like you much after purchasing!

    Excellent HTR

Written By Marcos, Houston on Thursday, March 06, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Always been a Pioneer HTR fan, I have to say that I'm changed for life after buying this Yamaha HTR. The construction is well thought out, it feels hefty and rigid, and the power amp stands out when you look inside. My music, movies have come alive, there is more clarity and detail compared to what I had. The Yamaha control app works great but the AIRPLAY tends to cut out a lot. Awesome product, worth every penny.
    Pros:
Construction, Sound quality, power, Yamaha App, control layout.
    Cons:
"Airplay" option will cut off regularly, this is very annoying. Remote control looks and feels cheap.

I agree with other reviewers about the manual, it would be better in print than on disk. I am otherwise very pleased, but still learning how to use. The great thing is the 2 zone capabilities with separate source and volume controls. I had a hard time figuring out how to turn on the zone 2 speakers initially(party mode does this). Plenty of power. Remote could have larger print and keys. Built in Pandora and Sirius XM very cool. Air Play instructions were not up to date, I had to slide control screen up on Ipad and Iphone to reveal Icon
    Pros:
None found yet, Maybe the price
    Cons:
    As stated in review

Itt's generally great, but screws up my network

Written By JohnPrtl, Tega Cay, SC on Sunday, February 23, 2014

I've wanted to buy a RX-10xx since it was an A1000 a few years ago. I finally got one. It sounds great, appears to have fine build quality, has good features and processing choices, and the ability to turn the processing off, pretty much everything I wanted. But currently It has a serious flaw. Its network connectivity was a big part of why I bought this instead of a lower priced receiver. The iPhone and iPad apps are great; I use them instead of the remote to control it. BUT, it appears to panic on my network. I use a DirecTV DVR and a network enabled DirecTV network receiver to use their whole-house video. It works fine until I plug in the A1030, then the whole-house thing fails completely, even if I'm not using any network functions on the A1030. So, my wonderful network machine is plugged in and plugged out depending on what programming I want. I'm sure this is a firmware upgradeable problem. I home they fix it soon. I am NOT satisfied with this receiver. I think a minor firmware update would fix it.
    Pros:
Good build quality, sound, features. Clean and strong, up-dateable firmware.
    Cons:
It panics on my network! Networking is a big reason of why i bought it. It screws up my DirecTV. I'd give it a five except for this. I'm hoping for a firmware update.

This is an amazing receiver. I have the main zone hooked up to my Bose 6.1 surround and it is nothing short of blowing the room apart. I use the zone 2 to drive my Cerwin Vega Dx-7's and it will rock the house as well as my neighbors houses as well... Well worth the cost just does everything I ask of it extremely well
    Pros:
User interface, music quality, horsepower to give you a real theater experience..

    Pass Thru Issues

Written By George R, Hauppauge, NY on Sunday, October 06, 2013

Love all the features of the unit but cannot get the video pass thru to work properly.
    Pros:
Love the seamless zone 2 audio feature along with the great I Pad app to control unit remotely.
    Cons:
Wished the DAC was a little sharper but plays well. Cannot get the video pass thru to operate correctly without it cutting out. Have contacted Crutchfield , Yamaha and my cable tv provider but I cannot get this resolved. It seems that one truly knows about this or doesn't understand the issue. The two main reasons that I selected this unit (along with help from Crutchfield ) was for the zone two audio operation and the video pass thru function.

    Decent receiver

Written By JRB_VT, Vermont on Monday, August 05, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The equalizer control is somewhat difficult, but satisfactory (but I wish I could simply copy the setting from one speaker to another) ... it takes some time to get the curve the same.

I wish there was (maybe there is) to have multiple user settings for the equalizer that I could switch between with one click. I can get the TV mode to sound great, but I can not get my CD music to sound as great.

I wish the owner manual came with the unit in paper format.
    Cons:
after switching from one HDMI source to another, the "sound setting" changes. I wish I could just "lock it in" (e.g. always have to on the 7.1 setting). I also wish it had the equivalent of a "loudness" function. At low volume levels the bass needs boosting which is difficult to do, so I give up.

    Great AV Receiver

Written By koglerrh, Enon, Ohio on Wednesday, July 31, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to set up and connect to home theater devices. This unit is heavy and large. It feels substantial. Sound is great and HDMI switching is flawless. Have noticed that the subwoofer doesn't come on as often as it did we my previous Sony receiver; but, I haven't found out why yet. Crutchfield support helped, but as far as they could tell, the RX-A1030 was working as designed. While I don't need it right now, having WiFi and Bluetooth built in would be nice and eliminate the need for and additional cost of a Yamaha adapter. The next updated version of the RX-A1030 will probably have them built in. I connected the unit to my router in another room via an ethernet connection, but haven't been able to verify that it works yet. My Mac wifi/router software doesn't seem to show the RX-A1030 anywhere, so I have my doubts. But for standard audio/video from DVDs, CDs, Blue Ray and even streamed over Apple TV, I'm more than happy with the RX-A1030.
    Pros:
Outstanding sound. Easy installation and setup. Easy automatic speaker calibration. One of few AV receivers in this price range on market with Phono In for turntable (yes, some of us still listen to legacy vinyl occasionally) and Digital Audio Out (Optical or coax) to drive wireless headset base unit/transmitter. Took about an hour from opening the box to watching DirecTV, most of that time connecting the speaker and component wires.
    Cons:
Doesn't activate the subwoofer as expected; therefore, deep bass is often missing when you think it should be there. Haven't verified successful internet connection for firmware updates and airplay. Full user manual is only on CD, so if you're like me, expect to print it out to make it more convenient to use. As with most modern electronics, there are so many possible options and combinations of settings that it's almost impossible to know if you're getting the best possible system performance.

This is a very capable piece of equipment. I am particularly impress with how many digital units can be managed (7 HDMI inputs). Equally impressive is the ability to manage my legacy equipment,; like my CLD-D704 Pioneer ( AC-3 Multi-input) Laserdisc. Great with a Home Media Center (Windows 7 PC) as well. Great picture and great sound.
    Pros:
The number of HDMI inputs and ability to handle legacy equipment
    Cons:
    I haven't found any.

ONE OF THE BEST RECEIVERS I HAVE EVER OWNED, LOVE THE NETWORK FEATURES AND THE FACT THAT I WAS ABLE TO HOOKED IT UP SO EFFORTLESS, LOTS OF POWER, ENOUGH TO DRIVE A 7.1 SET OF SPEAKERS TO MAKE MYWIFE QUARREL WITH ME ABOUT THE SOUND LEVEL GOING THRU THE ROOF AND DISTURBING MY NEIGHBOURS. A VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER SYSTEM FOR THE MODERN HOME , HAVE ALL THE FEATURES I WANT AND SOME NORE. THE QUALITY OF THE SOUND WAS AMAZING EVEN FOR THE NET RADIOS (PANDORA MY FAVORITE) YOU HAVE TO HEAR THIS TO BELIEVE IT.
    Pros:
NETWORK CAPABLE, AND IT WORKS AS STATED, THE SUB ROUTINES AND SETTINGS FANTASTIC, I AM STILL PLAYING WITH THEM,LOTS OF POWER ON ALL CHANNELS, INTUITIVE DISPLAY. THE ANDROID APP WORKED AS STATED OVERALL WELL PUT TOGETHER AND PERFORMANCE
    Cons:
THE NETWORK ADAPTER WAS A LITTLE FINIKY, KEEP DROPPING THE CONNECTION, HAD IT REPLACED AND WALLA. IT WORKED

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    1. Sound quality has improved comparing to my old Sony STR 2100ES. Bass is tighter. 2. Amp assignment is very restricted to only 4 modes. I have two amps for the two front channels and that is not part the assignments. 3. App would drop connection constantly. Very frustrating 4. I like the fact it decodes DSD signals from an SACD player with HDMI 1.4 output. 5. DAC is not the best. I wind up using my Dennon CD player's DAC with RCA analog output, which sounds much better. 6. The video seems to have improved a bit over that direct from of the Sony DVD player, if you set the video to "processing". 7. Overall, it is a step up from where I was with old receiver. 8. If I had a better budget, I would have gone with the A3030 for sure.
    Pros:
I still like it. It is still a good upgrade
    Cons:
    DAC needs improvement

Can this receiver play audio from HDMI sources in Zone 2 speakers? [ bruno  Jun 11, 2014 ]
    4 answers
    • Yes it can. It has the ability to play either zone from any input. [ CHRISTINA   Jun 11, 2014 ]
    • Yes, this took a long time to figure out. There is no mention of how to do this in the manual & the remote has no way of doing it by one button. we found the answer on YouTube from a guy in china. Basically you go in to the menu, settings, sound & you have to set the 7 ch surround sound to play the extra external speakers(zone 2). Also you have to connect your zone 2 speakers as directed on the back of the RX-A1030. There is an option to have a 9 channel speaker set up in zone 1 or a 7 channel set up in zone 1 with the zone 2 speakers connected. There definitely could have been an easier way to do this & it took us months to figure it out. Yamaha needs to improve this whole confusing process. [ KUAKA   Jun 11, 2014 ]
    • Yes it can. [ BRIAN   Jun 11, 2014 ]
    • No clue. I am not using zone 2 capability..try posting your question on the Forum web site. There is a discussion thread dedicated to Yamaha Aventage XX30 receivers under the Receiver category. [ BROOKE E   Jun 11, 2014 ]
I have this Yamaha receiver setup as a 2.1 system. If i connect my Oppo 103 sound through the 8 ECA connections and use the Multi channel input, would the receiver's processing down mix to 2.1? Would this connection be better than simply connecting it through the HadMI? Thanks [ MIguel  Dec 15, 2013 ]
    1 answer
    • Thanks for your question Miguel. The HDMI connection will transfer the digital audio to the receiver which would then convert to analog. If you use the 7.1 channel analog outputs the Oppo unit will handle the digital to analog conversion, and the receiver would then downmix the audio to 2.1 channels for your system. I suspect the HDMI connection will provide the best audio experience. This is because the the Yamaha RX-A1030 uses ESS Sabre Premier 192kHz/24-bit DACs (ES9006) for all channels to produce professional quality digital audio with exceptionally good signal-to-noise ratio and up to 120dB of dynamic range. The AV receiver also utilizes low-jitter PLL circuitry to help optimize sound imaging. The result is a more dynamic sound with greater detail and less distortion. [ Jeff Staff  Dec 16, 2013 ]
Can this A/V receiver be used in a two channel setup only? [ Charles  Dec 05, 2013 ]
    5 answers
    • There are 26 diferent sound modes and 2ch stereo is one of them. If you have a Smart Phone you can download the remote app and see what some of the features are. Some features will vary with model, but this one does everything on the App, as far as I can tell. Hope this helps. BTW thiis is a awesome reciever! [ STEVEN L   Dec 06, 2013 ]
    • Of course but it may be a bit over kill. I use the 1030 to listen to music mostly but I have the unit hooked up to my tv as well in 5.1 system. If you strictly want a 2 channel system why not consider separates? Related to all of this is the fact that the 1030 defaults your speakers to small meaning that it is looking to send those low freqs to a sub woofer. If you are not goingot use a sub woofer then you will need to go into the setup and change the default speaker size to large. If yo9u want to know more about the 1030 and its related receivers, I urge you to join (free) the AVS forum and browse what people have posted there. [ BROOKE E   Dec 06, 2013 ]
    • Yes, I believe it can. There are many audio modes that can be selected that are suitable for various purposes and sources, such as stereo music, TV dialog sound, DVD/movie surround sound, etc. I'm far from mastering the unit's capabilities, however. Once I got it to do what I needed, I stopped studying the user manual. You can download the user manual from the Yamaha web site and study it before you decide whether or not to buy it. My personal opinion is that you could spend a lot less money on a different receiver if all you really want is two-channel stereo sound. I don't believe that two-channel sound modes will trigger the subwoofer, if you have one. You can also call Yamaha or Crutchfield tech support if you haven't already. [ RICHARD H   Dec 06, 2013 ]
    • I'm not sure I understand the question but you can use 5.1 with other two separate zone setup at all times. That's basically what I do with my outdoor speakers and living room setup [ BRAD S   Dec 06, 2013 ]
    • Yes. It can do 2, 3, 5, 7 with or without 2 subwoofers. If you use multiple zones it can switch between 5/7 to output to the secondary location. It's pretty versatile. [ BRIAN   Dec 06, 2013 ]
Can I use my MacBook Pro version 3.1 (2006 model) instead of my iPhone and connect it to this receiver to directly access iTunes streaming stations? [ William  Dec 05, 2013 ]
    1 answer
    • AirPlay: This AV receiver supports AirPlay, which means it can accept wireless music streaming from your iPod touch, iPhone or iPad; as well as from iTunes on Macs or PCs. This makes it easy to enjoy your iTunes music from your computer on your home theater system. [ Jeff Staff  Dec 05, 2013 ]
Do I need the Yamaha YWA 10 WiFi adapter to get my iTunes and iRadio to run through my receiver? I only have 2009 iPod Classic (which doesn't support iRadio) and would rather not use my iPhone 5S. I am using a Motorola Surfboard SB6182 modem. Can I hook an Apple Airport Express or Time Capsule directly to the receiver to avoid using a YWA 10 device? Thank you. [ William  Dec 05, 2013 ]
    1 answer
    • If you will not be using the hard wired connection directly, then you will need something to either supply a wireless signal (like the YWA 10) or a device to work as a local connection (such as the Apple devices). The Express or Time Capsule should both work, as they will provide a LAN connection to the receiver just as the YWA 10 would. [ Jeff Staff  Dec 05, 2013 ]
I will hook up my Samsung 46 inch LED Series 8000 Smart TV to the receiver to run audio through my analog speakers. Do I need any particular HDMI cables to do this and what particular part of the receiver do I hook the TV up to for audio to go through the external speakers? [ William  Dec 05, 2013 ]
    1 answer
    • Thanks for your questions William. Most HDMI cables should work fine with this unit. Where to connect the HDMI from the TV will depend a little on what else you have in your system. A quick call or chat with an Advisor will help determine exactly which cables you will need. In addition, if you should run into any issues while setting up your new receiver, then our Tech Support team will be here to help. [ Jeff Staff  Dec 05, 2013 ]
