Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A2030 - Center channel "lift" uses digital processing to enhance dialogue clarity
Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A2030 - Plug your iPad into the front-panel USB port for easy charging and playback
Take your home theater's sound and picture to new heights — and new places. Yamaha's AVENTAGE receivers bring together top-notch audio and video processing with high-quality construction designed to deliver your movies and music with sonic purity and detail. With 140 watts per channel in stereo mode, 9 channels of amplification, and three-zone capability, 'A2030 has the power and flexibility to drive a robust home theater system that extends into as many as three rooms.
Yamaha's Intelligent Amp Assign provides outputs for up to 11 speakers, giving the ‘A2030 multi-room versatility to suit your home and equipment. You can power nine channels at a time with this receiver, or up to 11 when you add a separate stereo power amp or receiver. That means you can enjoy 5.2-channel surround in your home theater, while simultaneously powering stereo speakers in two other rooms.
The RX-A2030 can output any digital or analog audio/video source to a second zone via HDMI.
The additional HDMI output offers lots of multi-zone capabilities that many multi-room receivers don't have. You can output audio or video from any source to Zone 2 via HDMI. Plus, Zone 2 HDMI switching means you can watch different content from different sources at the same time. Watch a Blu-ray disc in your main room while the kids watch their favorite show in another room. Or use the second HDMI output to send audio and video to an HDTV in a fourth room, while the receiver powers speakers in three other rooms.
Yamaha goes the extra mile for excellent sound in its AVENTAGE receivers. The RX-A2030 uses dual audiophile-grade ESS SABRE digital-to-analog converters, which decode the latest high-resolution audio formats with accuracy and detail. Your digital sources like Blu-ray discs and lossless music files will sparkle with definition and life in stereo and surround sound. Independent power supplies for analog and digital circuitry help prevent interference between the two, for purer audio signals. And the symmetrical power amp layout isolates the circuitry for the left and right channels, for a high signal-to-noise ratio and a wide soundstage for stereo music listening.
The free Yamaha A/V Controller app gives you easy touchscreen control over the RX-A1030 with your smartphone or tablet.
When you connect the 'A2030 to your home network, you'll open up a whole world of digital music. With built-in support for Apple AirPlay, you can send music from your iPhone®, iPad®, or computer running iTunes® directly to your receiver for playback. If you subscribe to Spotify® or Rhapsody®, you'll enjoy support for their massive song libraries as well. Plus you can stream music from Pandora® or tap into thousands of free radio stations worldwide via vTuner. Yamaha's Compressed Music Enhancer helps give MP3s and other digital music more depth and detail, as well as upconverting CDs and lossless FLAC files for high-resolution playback. AirPlay requires a wireless home network and a wired connection between the receiver and network or a wireless connection using the optional Yamaha Wi-Fi adapter.
If it's been a while since you last bought a receiver, then the 'A2030's setup and control features will be a welcome improvement. The on-screen guide is full-color with lots of graphics for easy navigation — a far cry from the bare-bones black-and-white menu screens of just a few years ago. Plus, the free Yamaha A/V Controller app provides sophisticated touchscreen control over a wide range of functions from your Apple® smartphone or tablet, Kindle Fire™, or other Android™ device.
The RX-A2030 is prepared to take on the latest and greatest digital sources. The front-panel HDMI input is MHL-compatible. That means you can connect your MHL-compatible Android tablet or smartphone to send music and HD video through your receiver for playback on your home theater system. Plus, the 'A2030 supports 3D and 4K pass-through, so it can handle today's 3D Blu-ray players and as well as upcoming Ultra HD content as it arrives.

Great receiver does everything I wanted and more
This unit replaces a Yamaha RX-V765, which had two audio zones. This one adds network capability and Airplay and more zones. I have my home wired so the set-up for that was already in place. We love Pandora and it accesses that service directly. It took some time to set this receiver up, because it is so flexible and has so much capability. I love the app to control it, and its works flawlessly on my wifi. That part was easy to set up. I use my Android phone and my wife uses her i-phone, so we can control all zones in other rooms with ease.
Pros: Big, sturdy unit, great sound, great flexibility and options. Super nice with app to control function. Looks and sounds awesome! Yamaha is top of the line in my experience over the years.
Cons: Cost. But if you want these features and power, don't hesitate to purchase it! It is a great value for the cost.
Easy configuration, greate power and sound. I used with my 80" 3D HD tv
Pros: Easy configure with the mic and set the tv control.
I acquired this receiver since I needed 3 zones and Crutchfield felt that this was a better choice than the Onkyo and, it was available now. All receivers have poor explanations, this one is no exception. Connections and results are achieved through trial and error. Component in does not go to HDMI out, even though the specs say so. Maybe an improper connection? Some at Crutchfield said the sound is output on Zone 2/Zone 3 out but... alas, no luck. Only the speakers work. The Android App is excellent and I can control what I hear, where I want to hear it i.e. the Zones. Much easier than the remote. I wish the receiver had RF but, few do. Sound is good, DSP modes varied. All the sources one needs... anything from a device on the network.. my PCs, tablet, phones, Pandora, Airplay, etc. I would prefer to buy Apple TV than Airplay since I could then get video too so Air Play is a waste, in my opinion. Nice to be able to sit on the deck, open the tablet and play anything from the tablet or that the tablet can access to the speakers on the deck, all from the App. Nice work there.
Pros: 3 Zones, good App
Cons: Difficult to setup and route music, video.
This receiver is awesome! The colors are bright and vivid and the sound is wonderful...fills the room and I can hear things that I never did before. It was very easy to setup. I love the small touches...like when it displays the album art when I play my ipod. I am very happy with this purchase.
Pros: Video clear and bright; great sound
Cons: None that I see so far.
Thanks to the Crutchfield Team for helping me decide on this model and also the speedy delivery. I purchased this primarily because we had just replaced an old widescreen for one of the new Sony models with 3D. Unfortunately I didn't think to check my old Yamaha receiver first and found out that it was not 3D compatible. Thus, we decided in the new RX-A2030. Putting it together was not too bad. However, the manual is contained on a CD and I can understand why since its just over 170 pages long. Since I just installed it less than a week ago, I am still in the learning process. However, I did get it set up with our current sound system (RL front Paradigm Studio 60s, Paradigm center speaker and Paradigm RL rear speakers in ceiling, and Paradigm sub-woofer. We tried the 3D version of Avatar and it was fantastic, both 3D and the 5.1. This is a large and heavy unit so be sure to check your housing unit. I had to rearrange ours and it just barely fit. One of my concerns is that it might not ventilate well because of the tight fit but I can probably install a small fan in the rear to solve that. So far no problems but like I said, I still have a ways to go to learn everything about the unit. In my opinion it's a nice looking receiver; very impressive.
Pros: Sound production, capabilities, looks
Cons: None so far.

Aventage Series: The Aventage line of Yamaha AV receivers is based on the audio design concept of providing a massive, full-bodied sound for movie sound effects and the accurate reproduction of music sources. By expertly harmonizing traditional and advanced technologies, every factor that affects sound quality, from materials & parts construction to circuitry layout, vibration damping, and "fine-tuning" the sound, is handled with no other thought than to achieve the best possible audio quality. As a result, every Aventage receiver has the ability to reproduce the most subtle details of high-definition sound, so that listeners can enjoy a truly high-class sound studio experience at home.
Intelligent Amplifier Assignment: Intelligent Amp Assignment automatically assigns amplifier channels of the Yamaha AV receiver to certain speakers depending on what functions are selected. You can select from a variety of amplifier configurations.
YPAO R.S.C. (Reflect Sound Control): YPAO-R.S.C. analyzes room acoustics and measures various speaker characteristics, then calibrates audio parameters to achieve optimum sound. It employs Reflected Sound Control to correct early reflections for studio-quality sound. It also provides DSP Effect Normalization, which varies the CINEMA DSP parameters according to the reflected sounds. Yamaha's YPAO-R.S.C. system uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters; such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers, and even the volume level; until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room. Using the supplied Optimizer Microphone, YPAO performs the following checks and makes appropriate adjustments to give you the best possible sound from your system:
Note: You can also choose to manually adjust the AV receiver's speaker settings.
Multi-Channel Decoding Formats: The Yamaha RX-A2030 supports the following multi-channel (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic) decoding formats.
Note: Dolby Digital and DTS listening modes can only be selected if your audio source is connected to the A/V receiver via a digital audio connection (HDMI, optical, or coaxial). To enjoy true 7.1ch Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS-HD surround sound, the receiver must be connected to your Blu-ray player via HDMI.
Surround Parameters: The Yamaha AV receiver offers the following Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS NEO:6 audio adjustments.
Cinema DSP Soundfields: Conventional multichannel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha Cinema DSP is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent soundfields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects ideally located in these separate soundfields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and realistic presence. It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater. The AV receiver offers 23 Cinema DSP programs for movies, music, and games.
Note: You can change the receiver's Cinema DSP effect level (level of the soundfield effect to be added). You can adjust the level of the soundfield effect from -6 dB to +3 dB.
CINEMA DSP Parameters: You can adjust the following parameters of the Cinema DSP modes.
Cinema DSP Modes: The Yamaha RX-A2030 AV receiver offers proprietary Yamaha Cinema modes so you can enjoy your movies and music even more in your home; regardless if you are using Presence Speakers, only have a two-channel speaker system, or listening through headphones.
HiFi Sound Modes: The Yamaha RX-A2030 offers two HiFi audio modes which bypass the receiver's tone & DSP processing for higher sound quality performance. These HiFi sound modes lets you play back input sources without any soundfield effect processing. When either of theses modes are enabled, each speaker produces its own channel audio signal (without soundfield processing). When playing back 2-channle sources, such as a CD player, stereo sound is heard from the front speakers. When playing back multichannel sources, the receiver produces unprocessed multichannel surround sound.
Compressed Music Enhancer: Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3, WMA, and AAC. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original as possible.
Dialogue Lift & Level Adjustment: Dialogue Lift raises the sound of dialogue from the center speaker to a position in the center of the screen. Newly developed virtual dialogue lift achieves dialogue lift function even without the need for presence speakers. Dialogue Level Adjustment lets you control the volume of the vocal sound, so you hear movie dialogue and music vocals at the ideal level for clear, comfortable listening.
Dynamic Range Control: The Yamaha RX-A2030 employs two Dynamic Range Control functions.
Bass Management: The Yamaha RX-A2030 AV receiver provides the following Bass Management settings.
Volume Setup: The Yamaha RX-A2030 allows you to customize the receiver's volume levels.
Audio Inputs/Outputs: The Yamaha RX-A2030 offers a variety of analog and digital audio inputs/outputs.
8 HDMI Inputs/2 HDMI Outputs: The Yamaha RX-A2030 AV receiver is fitted with eight HDMI (v.1.4) inputs and two HDMI (v.1.4) outputs to deliver crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video signals. The two HDMI outputs can be set to display the same video signal or the second HDMI monitor output can be assigned to Zone 2 or Zone 4 (not both) for the display of two different HDMI sources; simultaneously. The HDMI 1.4 jacks support 1080p and 4K video signals; as well as 3D video and ARC functionality. Deep Color (30/36 bit), x.v.Color, and auto Lip-Sync compensation is also supported via HDMI. The AV receiver's HDMI jacks support 2-channel and multi-channel linear PCM (up to 8-channel) and Bitstream (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc) digital audio formats.
Note: When you output a video signal from both HDMI outputs simultaneously, the receiver outputs the video signal at the highest resolution that both TVs connected to this unit can support. For example, if you are have connected a 1080p TV and a 720p TV, the receiver will output 720p video through both HDMI outputs.
MHL-Compatible HDMI Port: One of the receiver's eight HDMI inputs is on the front-panel and MHL compatible. This MHL compatible HDMI port provides easy, direct connection of MHL compatible smartphones. Playback of up to 1080p video and multi-channel audio from the phone is supported. The receiver will also charge your connected phone. Play, Stop, and other basic operations can be controlled from the AV receiver's remote control.
HDMI Standby Through Mode: When the RX-A2030 is in standby mode (power off), the Standby Through feature allows HDMI source signals to pass through the receiver to the TV. The HDMI input can be changed using the remote control. So, there's no need to turn on the A/V receiver in order to switch HDMI sources.
Analog Video: The RX-A2030 AV receiver offers component, composite, and S-video analog video jacks.
4K Video Upscaling: The Yamaha RX-A2030 is capable of outstanding upscaling and i/p conversion quality. This AV Receiver will upscale video signals from analog (up to 1080i)-to-HDMI and HDMI-to-HDMI, up to 4K. This means a much better picture with HDTVs capable of 720p, 1080i, 1080p, or 4K resolution.
Note: You can also convert a composite video signal to a component video and vice-versa; as well as S-video (without scaling). HDMI can only be output via HDMI.
Optimized Video Processing: Yamaha's high-end video projector engineering expertise has produced various advanced processing techniques that are applied to this AV receiver. These include edge adaptive deinterlacing to smooth out jaggy noise, motion adaptive deinterlacing to detect moving or still images for precise pixel-by-pixel processing, and multi-cadence detection including 3-2 pull-down. Proper processing makes viewing enjoyment complete no matter what video source or content.
Edge Adaptive Deinterlacing: In ordinary deinterlacing, pixels in areas of movement are interpolated by upper and lower ranges. This causes jaggies in diagonal lines. Edge adaptive deinterlacing detects the direction of the line and interpolates the pixels optimally.
Background Video: The Background Video feature allows you to watch a video source while listening to a different audio source. With the RX-A2030, you can select any video input, and listen to AM/FM radio or select songs from a USB device at the same time.
Ethernet LAN Port (optional WiFi): The Yamaha AV receiver is fitted with a RJ-45 Ethernet (LAN) port to connect the receiver to your home network to access your DLNA music server, or Internet Radio. There is also a rear-panel USB type-A port (5V/0.5A) that allows you to connect Yamaha's YWA-10 wireless network adapter (022YWA10, sold separately) for a wireless network connection.
DLNA 1.5/Windows 7 Certified: The RX-A2030 is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) 1.5 and Windows 7 compliant for audio networking. This means it's easier for you to access and enjoy digital music stored on your PC. You can use your PC to play high-bit rate music content through your audio system, or use the RX-A2030 to browse and play music files on your hard drive. You can control playback of your streamed audio files from the AV receiver's remote control. The receiver also supports ID3-Tag and META tag information so song title, artist name, and album name can be displayed from the unit's on-screen menu (via HDMI). The Yamaha receive supports the playback of the following music files.
Note: The AV receiver supports the following music servers - (1) PC with Windows Media Player 11 or later installed, (2) PC with DLNA/UPnP Certificate server software installed, (3) NAS with DLNA/UPnP certification.
Internet Radio: The Yamaha RX-A2030's network connection provides access to Pandora and vTuner Internet Radio. Learning/Multibrand Remote Control (with LCD): The receiver comes with a learning/multibrand wireless remote control. In addition to the receiver, the remote can be programmed to control multiple brands of TVs, Blu-ray players, DVD players/recorders, DVRs, VCRs, etc. If you cannot find a remote control code for your playback device or if any key on the remote control does not work after you set the program code, you can use the Learn function to "teach" the receiver's remote to operate your playback device. The remote also offers a Macro function which allows you to program a series of button operations in sequence to a single button on the remote. This remote can remember up to 4 macro functions; each macro can record a maximum of 10 steps. The remote features an LCD window which displays operational information.
HDMI Control: The Yamaha AV receiver supports the HDMI control function, which allows you to operate external components via HDMI. At Crutchfield, you'll get detailed, accurate information that's hard to find elsewhere. That's because we have our own in-house Product Research team. They verify what’s in the box, check the owner's manual, and record dimensions, features and specs. We stay on top of new products and technologies to help people make informed choices.
I have been very pleased with the product and its performance. I have not been able to use more than one zone yet but plan to after we build and move to our new home. I have only used it to support a 5.1 Paradigm sound system and it works great. Navigation seems to be fairly easy so far but I have not used all of the capabilities yet. It does work great with 3D movies, Apple iPod, and satellite TV. I have not used Apple AirPlay yet and have not been able to get the Apple Ap to work on my iPhone; perhaps I downloaded the wrong App. The unit is very attractive and impressive; however you need to make sure your console has sufficient room and can support the unit. It is heavy. [ William Feb 11, 2014 ]
My wife especially loves the way we can control the unit with her i-phone. I like how the multiple zone outputs can be switched and arranged to suit our system. It sounds wonderful and the amplifiers are powerful. This is my first network receiver and I really have enjoyed it. The Yamaha website has the owners manual, so you can see how to connect and use it in your existing system. I use the first three zones all the time, and they are easy to manage and control. The next thing I want to do is use zone 4 on the unit to distribute HDMI to another room. I have cat 5 cable all over my home, and there are quite a few HDMI over cat 5 cable products out there. [ DAN C Feb 11, 2014 ]
Love it. Basic set-up was easy, I haven't explored all the features in detail yet, but it was quick to understand the basics and get it up and running. Biggest drag is that there is no hard copy manual (common these days), so I spent the first day flipping through the pdf version on a tablet while I was exploring features and figuring out what they call what features. I bought it in part for the multi-zone abilities and that was very easy to set up. Multi-zone control is easy using the android app. [ LINDA Feb 11, 2014 ]
Yes, I am very pleased with the performance and output, but its a little tricky to navigate through and maximize the attributes of the equipment. [ JOSE A Feb 11, 2014 ]
Yes, very much so. I have had multiple Yamaha receivers and this one is not only powerful, but easy to use. I have to admit I havent really attempted to use more than the basics, but it was easy to set up and will definitely rock your room. I bought this one to replace an Onxyo that I had just purchased 6 months prior that couldnt put out enough sound to fill the room I am set up in, 42x30x12ft high. Big room, needing lots of power. The Onkyo couldnt get near the Yamaha, in fact, my older (bought in 1997) was better than the Onkyo, which ended up getting fried. Yeah, the price of the Yamaha will get your attention, but the power/sound will also. Mine plays through Klipsch speakers in the theatre setting and either those or a set of Magnepans for music. Zone 2 is running a set of Linn bookshelfs that are about 30 yrs old but still sound as good as they did new. No issues with lack of power, on any of them. With the B&W 2000 sub running too, you can hear the system with ease from inside the house, which is about 150 feet from the house. Hope that helps. [ JOHN M Feb 11, 2014 ]
