Great sound and features for a great price. I have a very small house, so 5.1 Theater is more then enough. I'm running a Sony PS3 via HDMI into this RXV463, then the RXV463 into my 46" LCD HDTV via HDMI conection. Awesome picture. And the sound is unbelievable. Just went with all Polk Audio speakers. Saved money on the surrounds and front speakers by ordering the RM6751's and the RM6752 center. Added the PSW10 sub-woofer and a set of beautiful sounding RTi-A1's for up front duty. I also paid $200 for the right cord sets I needed.(huge difference HDMI RULES) For $1600 including PS-3.. THIS SYSTEM ROCKS !! The Yamaha does it's job well.

I purchased the RX 463 based on a recommendation from a friend. Although somewhat confusing to use in the beginning I am beginning to better understand and master using the the receiver. It has provided very good sound for the Polk RM95 Home Theater System and Sub PSW110. A great value for my first receiver!

The Rx-v463 replaces my Sony Str-Db1070. I wanted a receiver w/ HDMI to go w/ my Bluray player & HDTV. It blows away my old sony in sound quality for Cd's Dvd's,Bluray's or just watching TV. I love the max Vol setting & initial vol settings you never get that blast when commercials come on the tv or when you turn it on. The Optimizer settup mic is great setting up the surround sound system was easy! I had no problems following the owners manual like some people. The directions were clear & they told you where to go for the next step. I would reccomend the Rx-V463 to anyone who doesn't need more than 5.1 speakers or video conversion! This is a great basic Home Theater receiver for the money!!

Excellent, with limitations

This is the second Yamaha amp/reciever I have purchased. For my applications, it is perfect. That is to say, if you are still stubborn and restricted to a 5.1 surround setup, you can't go wrong. The receiver is loaded with various parameters and sound fields, as well as a direct circuitry which scales back and produces the sound using the least amount of available circuity. My guess is this is Yamaha's way of producing what would be a "tube" response.
Crutchfield delivered the product as they usually do, with no problems or rough shipment. Very satisfied, but beware of the lack of current 7.1 applications, as this amp simply doesn't go there.
With a price in this range, it's a bear.

Yamaha does it again!

I am very pleased with this Yamaha home theatre receiver. I had a Yamaha receiver for 12-13 years (and it still worked!... ) but i wanted to get an HDMI receiver as technology has caught up with my current components...
This unit is great... very simple to use (If you read your manual!) and similar in style to my older receiver, so i was very familiar with the Yamaha layout. The only negative i can say, is that audio passed to the TV from the HDMI output will be muted when you are using the RECEIVER audio... makes sense when you are using a single monitor in the same room as the TV, but sometimes you might want to pass that signal on to a second TV in another room to watch DVR programs and you will NOT have audio unless you change the setting back and forth each time... Not a big deal to most, but will be for power users...
Sound is crystal clear from all speakers... lots of paramater adjustments too.... great effects and true 5.1 discrete sound through HDMI!!
Great amp for the money... most value from a trusted name... if you cannot afford Denon, or want to save money on Onkyo's good stuff, buy yamaha... and its fun to say! Yamaha.
