It's the moment everyone's been waiting for: the lights are low and the screen glows with radiant color. The familiar comfort of your surroundings lulls you until the space around you fills with a crescendo of sound. This is the home theater experience, brought to you by the Yamaha RX-V475. The ‘V475 decodes the latest high-resolution audio formats found on many Blu-ray movies and concerts, creating a sonic atmosphere that makes you feel like you are there. Its advanced HDMI connections can even pass 3D video signals from a corresponding Blu-ray player to a compatible TV.
The 'V475 has a USB port in front — a perfect way to connect your iPod or iPhone®. Play your favorite tunes and keep your iPod charged for your next excursion. The receiver bypasses the iPod's DAC and employs its own low-jitter circuitry for a pristine musical experience. Plus, Yamaha's Compressed Music Enhancer restores your favorite songs to near-CD sound quality on playback. You can also use the USB port to listen to music stored on flash drives. And a front-panel minijack input lets you plug in any device with a headphone output.
Now you can enjoy video, games and more from your compatible Android™ device on your TV screen and surround speakers. MHL (Mobile High-definition Link) will pass 1080p video and multi-channel audio from compatible gear to your system, while charging your device. One back-panel HDMI input doubles as an MHL input for use with compatible smartphones and tablets, so you can send photos, videos and music from your mobile device to your home theater.
The RX-V475 includesApple's AirPlay technology, which lets you stream music from your iTunes® library directly to the receiver, either from a networked computer or right from your iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod touch®. Not only do you get a fast and convenient way to listen to your favorites, but anyone else in your home with an Apple device can share their latest musical finds. AirPlay requires a wireless home network and a wired connection between the receiver and network or a wireless connection using the optional Yamaha Wi-Fi adapter.
Yamaha offers a free, downloadable app for both Apple® and Android™ devices that lets you control this receiver with ease. Just connect your receiver to your home's wireless network, and your iPad®, phone, or tablet becomes the easiest remote to read and the hardest one to lose.
Some of the most advanced features of Yamaha's RXV series receivers are heard rather than seen. For starters, there's Yamaha's auto-speaker calibration system: YPAO. Simply connect the included microphone to your receiver, place it in your favorite listening position and let the system do the rest. YPAO analyzes your room's acoustics and makes adjustments for optimum sound in just a few minutes. It's like having a professional installer calibrate your system. Yamaha also adds Subwoofer Trim Control that enhances low frequencies by reducing overlap with the front speakers. You'll hear a cleaner, more focused soundstage along with seamless bass throughout the room.
Yamaha's special SCENE modes make this receiver a snap to use. Just press one of the four dedicated buttons on the receiver's front panel or remote, and the 'V475 automatically switches to the correct input setting and sound mode for viewing DVD or Blu-ray discs, playing CDs, watching TV, or listening to the radio. Plus, you can individually reprogram each button for different activities of your choice, such as playing video games, listening to your iPod, and more.
Your receiver powers your speakers and lets you connect and select your entertainment sources. But a great receiver does a lot more it ignites your emotions. From the passion of a favorite musical artist, to the crossfire of a super-charged movie soundtrack, to the intensity and immersion of a fast-paced video game, your receiver is the key to experiencing and enjoying it in full.
Easy to hook up but takes time to reach the desired settings. This is where Crutchfield's technical support shines. As the receiver is the brains of the home entertainment system, any difficulties with installation can be easily remedied by speaking with the highly efficient tech support folks. They will patiently walk you through the different modes of operation should you have any problems getting the receiver to function optimally. Even if you have a question any time after the initial installation, Crutchfield tech support is always there to lend a hand; you just can't beat that quality customer service!
Pros: Works beautifully with TV and audio system we purchased from Crutchfield.
Cons: Have to agree with a previous reviewer as the volume control is confusing with the increase in volume resulting in lower numbers; but you quickly get accustomed to it.
This is one nice receiver and very easy to get around on!
Pros: Great sound, easy hookup and great customer service (which is getting rare now a days)!
Cons: None so far!
Awesome receiver, easy to set up and use. Sound is crisp & clear.
Pros: Great sound, simple to use.
Crutchfield order for Yamaha RX-V475 A/V receiver placed 12/27/13; received 1/6/14 in good condition (no shipping damage). I hooked up to my home theater system (which included new Samsung LED TV & blu-ray player) , and the receiver turned on and took control without any problems or anomalies being encountered. The resultant 5.1 sound quality from the Yamaha is absolutely stellar-noticeably clearer and more dynamic than my prior 12 year old Kenwood receiver. The power output is more than sufficient to drive all my speakers with room to spare. Quickly able to calibrate speaker settings automatically using the receiver's YPAO microphone function. Overall an excellent value for the price., and so far, one month downstream, I'm satisfied with my purchase.
Pros: Quality of sound produced from all video and audio sources . Single cable connection (via HDMI ARC) to TV handling all inputs. Able to update the firmware easily via USB flash drive after downloading from Yamaha website. Also liked the YPAO microphone optimization capability. Doesn't come with built-in wifi; but in my case don't need as both my TV and blu-ray player have this feature.
Cons: Owner's Manual is on a CD and not very convenient when attempting to configure the receiver and figure out remote control operations. In this latter regard, the remote is not particularly user friendly, and the accompanyiing instructions are a bit confusing. Also it's not a learning remote and has no macro capabilities, both of which were attributes of my old Kenwood receiver remote.
Our 30-year-old receiver finally gave up the ghost recently, and I had no idea what technology was available these days! I spoke with a Crutchfield sales advisor and we settled on this receiver, and I am 100% happy with this purchase! I am a major audiophile and musician so it's GOT to sound good or I'm not happy. This receiver far exceeded my expectations in this area.
I also absolutely LOVE the features - the airplay works wonderfully with all my devices, as well as my Mac desktop, the app controller is beautiful and my favorite way to control the receiver. I'm just very happy and highly recommend both this receiver, as well as Crutchfield in general! Their tech support is amazing - they spent almost an hour on the phone with me and my husband one afternoon helping us work through an issue we came across with the settings on our Smart TV to make sure it would run correctly with the receiver - above and beyond!
Pros: Easy to set up, works wonderfully, sounds great, has a great set of features!
Cons: The volume control is confusing at first since it goes into the negative numbers.
The receiver sounds great. I have it hooked up with Polk MC80's and a TL3 center channel. I use it for movies and music and am not displeased with the sound quality at all. I am on the other hand changing it out though due to originally wanting a receiver with second zone and built in WiFi/Bluetooth capabilities. I do not use the Airplay feature because I have an Apple TV that I use for that Other than for those reasons I believe this is a good receiver.
Pros: sound quality
Cons: no built in WiFi, Bluetooth.
I hooked my Emp Tek E55Ti's to this receiver yesterday. It delivers plenty of power. Reference levels (0 dB on the receiver) are POWERFUL! The Emp Teks are not the easiest speakers to drive and this Yamaha does a fine job. I haven't had a chance to play around with airplay or the Yamaha control app. I plan to do that soon. I don't plan to use it's networking features too much because I have a smart TV and a smart wifi blu ray player. I would like to use my iPad to wake it up in the morning so that I can wake up to good music. Need to figure out how to do that.
The DAC in these receivers is what encouraged me to buy this receiver. Sound quality comes first and foremost for me. All the reviews about this receiver talked about lack of features (they mainly complain about 5 HDMI inputs instead of 6 that competitors have). I don't need 6 HDMI inputs. All those reviews however concluded that the sound quality of this receiver was better than that of competitors. After listening to many different CDs yesterday, I think I believe them (though I haven't made comparisons with other receivers myself).
I might update this review later if I have to change anything that I've said above after more experience with this receiver.
Pros: sound quality
I am currently buying the new Samsung led tv and I needed to get a new receiver. This one works perfectly with my old samsung 55" tv. I am really pleased with this purchase and Crutchfield is the best
After laboring over what product to buy and reading customer reviews for days, I was sold on CNet's sound quality compare ranking of 8 for the Yamaha. Other products in this price range scored 7 or 6. My number one priority is sound quality. This is not an overly feature rich product when compared to others in it's class, but the sound quality for the price is great with me. I'm very pleased with how it performance. Movie audio, low compression FLAC, WMA and MP3 enhanced play provide remarkable quality that's truly exceptional. I found setup to be a minimal challenge. It sounded great right out of the box, and with an hour our so read in the product's manual I'm dialed in and enjoying it. Crutchfield exceeded my expectations as well. It arrived early, was very well packed and I expect I'll be a repeat customer someday.
Pros: Rich is sound and simple to use
Cons: It could use a few more old time analog RCA inputs, but that's only because I still have old time working audio devices.
Good product & easy to hookup and operate for the TV.
Pros: Works well after a lot of trial and error, but a great product
Cons: Needs a paper manual in the package to understand the uses and methods to utilize the product to its max.
So okay, had been dreaming of having surround sound for well, frankly ages :). I first bought 60" TV :) and then researched all of those box sets but was afraid to take the plunge (fear of drowning :). So, my employer had a sound specialist installing a system for them so I had him come to my place. He gave me this as a recommendation for a receiver matched with Polk speakers and wall attachments. Well, typical me, I called Crutchfield and they not only concurred, but in response to if I was willing to spend a couple hundred more...they said that the upgrade wasn't necessary for my space. I did need to add adapter because even though I have wireless, it was weak because I own a condo in cement building. Just ordered that and have been enjoying radio through receiver and radio via Comcast while waiting. First Blue Ray I watched was Life of Pi which with the combination I bought had my dog and I hiding under the covers! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS and I love a company that doesn't try to hard sell :). What a difference with my tunes too....I love my music :)
I will recommend this company to anyone and these products...It doesn't come down to having the most expensive, it comes down to having the right amount of power for your room(s).
Thanks Crutchfield :). This is one buying experience I won't forget...
The one thing I would advise consumers on is to pair your purchase with a professional installer if you need it which I did....ha, installations aren't my thing :)
Pros: Um negatives? NONE!!!
The receiver does just what I wanted. Very happy with it. Really like the auto speaker setup function.
Pros: Price for value
Cons: No printed manual. Had to drag a lap top to reference with setup.
Great receiver. Easy internet connection and features like Pandora & Air Play. I use it simply to play 2 zones for outside speakers. Easy to figure out but the only draw back is receiver has to be connected to TV screen for some set up features and I did not intend on that and had no TV close by.
Pros: Great Remote, Receiver works well, easy to connect and use internet
Cons: Have to have a TV connected for several set up screens
I have decided to get a Yamaha RX-v475 because the Sony I had volume keep getting lower anytime I rise the volume. So far the sound is amazing, and the set up was much easier than the Sony. This is my first time trying a Yamaha. Have it for 1 month so far no problems.
Pros: like the on screen menu
Cons: needs more HDMI inputs
After trying (and returning) two (2) Denon AVR 1913's due to HDMI mapping issues, I decided to go with the Yamaha '475. I was a little hesitant at first, thinking I might miss the Denon sound, the 7.1 and the 90 watts...but after hooking up the Yamaha and hearing the sound quality, I no longer had any remorse what so ever! The sound is simply amazing and considerably easier to set up. Crutchfield was fantastic to work with...much to my surprise. They never gave me the first hint of hassle with returning two receivers and the tech support dept was great!
Works great. I had some trouble getting my sub-woolfer working but after muddling through the set-up menus I figured it out.
I just got it about 3 weeks ago....It is an awesome setup. FYI, I am pretty new to all the AVR and home sound stuff. I really like the iPhone and iPad app control feature of the unit. With the app, I can access my Pandora and also change from input to input. Also, things are easily able to be customized within Yamaha's app. Not too big not too small as far as size. Haven't found much to complain about yet. Two thumbs up!
Crutchfield's customer service is top notch. I am so glad that I chose them as the people to go to for advice, sales, and service. They were helpful and inquisitive throughout the whole process. After purchase, I even received a post card in the mail from my sales rep...just following up and making sure if I had any issues to call him. Great service!!
Pros: Apple connectivity. Good build quality. Yamaha App is very good.
Cons: Suited my needs but you may need more HDMI inputs depending on your setup.
We're using this receiver with two Polk Tsi 200 bookshelf speakers, our tv and blu-ray and we're very pleased. It was much easier to set up than we thought it would be, and the sound is fantastic, both for movies and for music.
Pros: easy set up, great sound for both music and movies
Cons: Some of the "bells and whistles," such as the settings to make it sound like you're in a concert hall or night club, and especially settings for different sorts of movies ("drama," "mono movies," etc.) we'll never use because we prefer the straight, two channel hi-fi sound for everything.
Great value, easy set up.
Great product for my built in surround sound. This is my first purchase for a stand alone receiver, have always had the theatre in a box and I am amazed at the sound and picture quality it produces. I have had no issues with it and the auto tune feature works well. I love I can control it from my iphone anywhere in the house for music.
Pros: Good quality, great sound and video
Cons: Takes a while to set up correctly
works really well has a delay when switching video outputs but other than that just what i expected
Superb features and quality!
Works great. Easy to set up.

Yamaha's Total Purity Concept: The Yamaha RX-V475 AV Receiver incorporates Yamaha's Total Purity Concept for the finest sound quality. The Total Purity Concept, which Yamaha has been cultivating for many years, encompasses high drive amp technology, high purity pre-amplification, anti-vibration technology, and independent pure power supplies. As a result, this AV receiver can provide high-quality sound for your movie & music soundtracks.
YPAO Technology: This unit employs the YPAO (Yamaha Parametric Acoustic Optimizer), which automatically adjusts the output of the speakers based on placement, performance, and the room's acoustic characteristics. Yamaha's YPAO system uses a small microphone and sophisticated equalization to automatically set the best sound for any room, no matter where the speakers are. First it checks the speaker connections and phase of each speaker. Then it sends out tones which are captured by the microphone to analyze the room acoustics and sets a variety of parameters; such as the speaker size, the distance of the speakers, and even the volume level; until it achieves the best sound conditions for your room. Using the supplied Optimizer Microphone, YPAO performs the following checks and makes appropriate adjustments to give you the best possible sound from your system:
Note: You can also choose to manually adjust the AV receiver's speaker, crossover, & EQ settings.
Multi-Channel Decoding Formats: The Yamaha RX-V475 supports the following multi-channel (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic) decoding formats.
Note: Dolby Digital and DTS listening modes can only be selected if your audio source is connected to the AV receiver via a digital audio connection (HDMI, optical, or coaxial). Even though the AV receiver will decode 7.1ch surround sound (via HDMI), it will only output 5.1ch surround, because it lacks Surround Back channel speaker outputs.
Surround Parameters: The Yamaha AV receiver offers the following Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS NEO:6 audio adjustments.
Cinema DSP Soundfields: Conventional multichannel audio reproduction systems base their sound on Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, using matrix and steering technologies to create surround sound effects. Yamaha Cinema DSP is much more advanced, actually creating richly realized independent soundfields that envelop you in an unmatched surround sound experience. With dialogue, music and effects ideally located in these separate soundfields, you will hear sound with accurate placement, smooth movement, exceptional clarity and richness, and realistic presence. It will seem as if the walls of your room have disappeared and you are in the middle of your own immense theater. The AV receiver offers 17 Cinema DSP programs for movies, music, and games.
Note: You can change the receiver's Cinema DSP effect level (level of the soundfield effect to be added). You can adjust the level of the soundfield effect from -6 dB to +3 dB.
Cinema DSP Modes: The Yamaha RX-V475 AV receiver offers proprietary Yamaha Cinema modes so you can enjoy your movies and music even more in your home; regardless if you are using Presence Speakers, only have a two-channel speaker system, or listening through headphones.
Straight Decode: Straight Decode lets you play back input sources without any soundfield effect processing. When the Straight Decode mode is enabled, each speaker produces its own channel audio signal (without soundfield processing). When playing back 2-channle sources, such as a CD player, stereo sound is heard from the front speakers. When playing back multichannel sources, the receiver produces unprocessed multichannel surround sound.
Compressed Music Enhancer: Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3, WMA, and AAC. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original as possible.
Dynamic Range Control: The Yamaha RX-V475 employs two Dynamic Range Control functions.
Bass Management: The Yamaha RX-V475 AV receiver provides the following Bass Management settings.
Volume Setup: The Yamaha RX-V475 allows you to customize the receiver's volume levels.
Audio Inputs/Outputs: The Yamaha RX-V475 offers a variety of analog and digital audio inputs/outputs.
HDMI (v.1.4): The Yamaha RXV475 AV receiver is fitted with 5 HDMI (v.1.4) inputs and 1 HDMI (v.1.4 outputs) to deliver crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video signals. The HDMI 1.4 jacks support 1080p and 4K video signals; as well as 3D video and ARC functionality. Deep Color (30/36 bit), x.v.Color, and auto Lip-Sync compensation is also supported via HDMI. The AV receiver's HDMI jacks support 2-channel and multi-channel linear PCM (up to 8-channel) and Bitstream (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc) digital audio formats.
MHL-Compatible HDMI Port: The HDMI 5 is MHL compatible. This MHL compatible HDMI port provides easy, direct connection of MHL compatible smartphones. Playback of up to 1080p video and multi-channel audio from the phone is supported. The receiver will also charge your connected phone. Play, Stop, and other basic operations can be controlled from the AV receiver's remote control.
HDMI Standby Through Mode: When the RX-V475 is in standby mode (power off), the Standby Through feature allows HDMI source signals to pass through the receiver to the TV. The HDMI input can be changed using the remote control. So, there's not need to turn on the A/V receiver in order to switch HDMI sources.
Analog Video: The RX-V475 AV receiver offers both composite and component analog video jacks.
Background Video: The Background Video feature allows you to watch a video source while listening to a different audio source. With the RX-V475, you can select any video input, and listen to AM/FM radio or select songs from a USB device at the same time.
Ethernet LAN Port (optional WiFi): The Yamaha AV receiver is fitted with a RJ-45 Ethernet (LAN) port to connect the receiver to your home network to access your DLNA music server, or Internet Radio. There is also a rear-panel USB type-A port (5V/0.5A) that allows you to connect Yamaha's YWA-10 wireless network adapter (022YWA10, sold separately) for a wireless network connection.
DLNA 1.5/Windows 7 Certified: The RX-V475 is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) 1.5 and Windows 7 compliant for audio networking. This means it's easier for you to access and enjoy digital music stored on your PC. You can use your PC to play high-bit rate music content through your audio system, or use the RX-V475 to browse and play music files on your hard drive.
Media Player: The Yamaha RX-V475 lets you play music files stored on your computer via a network connection. MP3 (up to 48kHz/320kbps), WMA (up to 48kHz/320kbps), AAC (up to 48kHz/320kbps), WAV (up to 192kHz/24-bit), and FLAC (up to 192kHz/24-bit) audio files stored on your computer can be played through the RX-V475 via its network connection. You can control playback of your streamed audio files from the AV receiver's remote control. The receiver also supports ID3-Tag and META tag information so song title, artist name, and album name can be displayed from the unit's on-screen menu (via HDMI). This unit can play back music files stored on the following music servers:
Internet Radio: The Yamaha RX-V475's network connection provides access to Pandora and vTuner Internet Radio. You can control the Internet Radio services from the AV receiver's remote control and on-screen menu (via HDMI). The receiver will display station name, album name, song title, and elapsed time on your HDMI-connected television.
AM/FM Tuner: The Yamaha RX-V475 AV receiver features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. The RX-V475 lets you store up to 40 AM/FM station presets. This can be done manually or automatically (auto-preset tuning). You can set this receiver to automatically match FM broadcast frequencies in stereo, or convert the frequency to monaural for weaker stations. An indoor FM wire antenna and AM loop antenna are included with the receiver.
Web Control: When connected to your network (with Internet connection), you can control the Yamaha AV receiver with the web control screen displayed in your PC's web browser. You'll be able to control functions such as, Power On/Off & Volume. Internet Explorer 7.x, 8.x, 9.x is recommended for web browser.
Firmware Updates: New firmware will be released for the purpose of additional features or product improvements. Firmware updates can be downloaded from the Yamaha website. If this unit is connected to the Internet, the receiver will indicate when a new firmware version is available and you can download the firmware via the network connection. Firmware updates normally take approximately 20 minutes or longer. The test A/V receiver contained firmware version 1.02 and had an immediate firmware version 1.05 update (as of 3/29/2013). Check Yamaha's Support Download Site for the most recent firmware updates.
USB Port: This AV receiver is equipped with a front-panel USB (type-A) port that allows you to enjoy MP3 (up to 48kHz/320kbps), WMA (up to 48kHz/320kbps), AAC (up to 48kHz/320kbps), WAV (up to 192kHz/24-bit), and FLAC (up to 192kHz/24-bit) music files from a USB mass storage class memory device; such as your Android smartphone, portable MP3 player or USB thumbdrive (not compatible with USB HDDs). Your USB mass storage class device must be formatted in FAT 16 or FAT32 . You can use the receiver's on-screen menu (via HDMI) and remote control to navigate your stored music files on your connected USB memory device. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the AV receiver's USB port (5V/1A); even in standby mode.
Note: While listening to a song from a USB device, you can view a favorite video or photo from the receiver's monitor output.
AirPlay: This AV receiver supports AirPlay, which means it can accept wireless music streaming from your iPod touch, iPhone or iPad; as well as from iTunes on Macs or PCs. This makes it easy to enjoy your iTunes music from your mobile Apple iOS device or computer on your home theater system. You can even view metadata such as song title, artist name, as well as album art via AV receiver's on-screen display. In addition, you can download Apple's free "Remote" application and use your Apple device as the remote control for your iTunes account.
Note: To use the AirPlay feature you need a Mac or Windows-based PC running iTunes (10.2.2 or later) connected to your wireless home network. Your iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad must have iOS 4.3.3 or later installed and connected to the same wireless home network.
iPod/iPhone Direct: The USB (type-A) port on the front-panel provides convenient connection for your iPod/iPhone so you can listen to your stored music and music apps through the Yamaha AV receiver. The iPod/iPhone USB digital connection means that the digital audio signal from your iPod/iPhone is transmitted directly to the system, minimizing noise interference and allowing use of the receiver's DAC, not the DAC in your iPod/iPhone. This results in more precise sound reproduction. You can navigate your iPod/iPhone's music via the receiver's on-screen menu (via HDMI) and remote control, or continue to use your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen. You can browse your iPod/iPhone's stored music content via Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, or Composer. You can also control Repeat & Shuffle functions. Basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) for music apps can also be controlled by the AV receiver's remote. Song/artist information from stored music and music apps on your iPod/iPhone will display on your connected TV (via HDMI) or the unit's front-panel display. Your iPod/iPhone's battery will be charged while connected to the receiver (max. 2.1A). Using the Lightning- or Dock-cable that came with your Apple device to connect directly to the Yamaha AV receiver, iPod/iPhone compatibility is as follows (as of 9/24/2013):
|Apple Device||Generation||Tested Version||Connector Type||Media Type||Control Type||Display Type||Charge|
|USB||AirPlay||Audio||Video||Remote||iPod/iPhone||Album Art||Artist/Song Text||Track Info|
Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.
On-Screen Menu: The RX-V475 offers an on-screen menu system via its HDMI output. This clean and simple interface makes setup and other operations extremely easy. If your TV is connected to the composite video or component video monitor output, you will need to use the AV receiver's front-panel display when changing settings. You can set the receiver's on-screen menu language to English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, or Chinese.
Scene (for One-Touch Start): The RX-V475 features four Scene buttons on the front panel and remote to make operating the receiver easier. These buttons are initially set to default settings for Blu-ray/DVD viewing, TV viewing, Internet Radio listening, and AM/FM Radio listening. Each can be reprogrammed to any input and any soundfield. Pressing a Scene button will automatically launch a number of operations that initiate play of the source controlled by that button. Other Scene settings are also available, such as iPod Listening, TV Sports Viewing, and Action Game Playing. Browsing and selecting the settings is quickly accomplished by changing Input via the front panel and watching the on-screen display. The settings can be selected for one-time use, or they can replace the original default settings. The Scene names can also be changed.
Input Rename: You can rename each input so the display reflects the actual source; choose from 15 templates or create an original name, up to nine characters.
Display Dimmer: You can set the brightness of the front-panel display from -4 to 0.
ECO Mode: When the ECO Mode is enabled, you can reduce the receiver' power consumption by keeping the maximum volume, maximum output power, and front display's brightness low. ECO mode reduces power consumption by approximately 20%.
Timers: The receiver offers a programmable Sleep Timer and Auto Power Down function.
Memory Guard: This feature is used to prevent accidental changes to the DSP program parameter values and other system settings.
IR Remote Control: The receiver comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of this receiver and other HDMI-connected sources (via HDMI CEC). In addition to the receiver, the remote can be programmed to control multiple brands of TVs, Blu-ray players, DVD players/recorders, DVRs, VCRs, etc.
HDMI Control: The Yamaha AV receiver supports the HDMI control function, which allows you to operate external components via HDMI. If your TV or other external components support HDMI control, you can use the remote controls of those devices to operate some of this unit's functions, and to synchronize this unit with the operation of those devices. You can use the following operations with the remote control of any of the connected HDMI Control compatible devices.
AV Controller App: This AV Controller App (free) will turn your iPod touch, iPhone, iPad or Android device into a Wi-Fi enabled remote control for the Yamaha AV receiver. This App provides the flexibility to control input, volume, mute and power commands. You can browse content from all internally available sources such as Internet Radio, USB and AM/FM tuners. You can also control all AV receiver zones such as powering on and changing input for each zone. This App not only controls the Yamaha AV receiver, it also controls Yamaha Blu-ray Disc Players, supporting various functions including Play, Stop and Forward. In addition, you can browse music stored on your Apple iOS or Android device and wirelessly transfer the content to the Yamaha A/V receiver for playback.
Note: You must have a wireless network in your home and the Yamaha AV receiver & Apple or Android device connected to the same network.

This will depend on the connections on your tuner and how you plan to use it. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine if it will work and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget. [ Jeff Jan 17, 2014 ] Staff
I don't use wireless phones. But you can probably use any analog equipment with the AV output. [ JEFFREY Jan 12, 2014 ]
I'm not sure. I don't use wireless phones. But I don't see why you can use the AV audio output for any analog equipment. [ JEFFREY Jan 12, 2014 ]
Good question, but I don't know the answer. I've never used the AV audio for headphones. - Craig [ CRAIG Jan 10, 2014 ]
If you're talking Bluetooth, I don't see how that would work. But my answer is I haven't a clue; I haven't tried it. Sorry. [ RONALD W Jan 10, 2014 ]

The Bose 901 speakers are a special scenario and I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or online chat to discuss a receiver that will be a good match. [ Jeff Dec 31, 2013 ] Staff
I do not believe there is such a setting but that being said you should not experience a delay. I have simulated high processing with streamed content as well with home theater pc connections for movie servers and found no delay. As stated previously a tv with a gaming mode sometimes can help offset a very small differential if needed. [ JACOB Dec 09, 2013 ]
Not that I can see. [ JOHN Dec 06, 2013 ]
Most receivers have a "direct mode" - check the specifications for this. Note that the "delay" experienced with gaming machines is due to the delay in processing the video signal in the television itself - some TV's have a gaming mode which reduces the amount of video processing in the TV to reduce the lag. For example, I have an Ultra HD (4K) set, and the inherent video delay is on the order of 140 milliseconds - a bit too much for gaming. Some sets have it down to under 40 milliseconds which is acceptable. You'll have to shop around. [ ROBERT E Dec 04, 2013 ]
I am not using my RXv475 for xbox...but can tell u I get no delay from other web based content ...like Netflix & other surfing [ JOHN Dec 03, 2013 ]
We have had your V475 for about six months and I am very pleased with its performance. I have an Apple TV, a Roku, a Comcast DVR, and Samsung blue ray player attached to theV 475. Additionally the receiver is hard wire to our in home data network. We use the Apple TV for music and mirroring the IPAD. Having the Apple TV allows me to play music from my networked PC's and from the Apple cloud without the using the IPAD. In addition we use the "Pandora" and internet radio features of the V475 for much of our listing. I believe you will be missing a lot if you don't connect the receiver to the internet. We live in central Georgia and may of the Atlanta based FM radio stations do not work well. However, almost all of them have an internet connection. Additionally there are a lot of great Jazz stations around the on the internet and we use the V475 to listen to them. So my recommendation is to connect the V475 and utilize its full capabilities you are not getting everything you paid for if you don't John K. [ JOHN Dec 06, 2013 ]
Jerry thanks for the response. I believe that even the higher priced Yamaha's do not have built in Wi-Fi. I have heard it is better to get the Apple TV, which has Wi-Fi built in, b/c it always does updates and sometimes the units(receivers) do not. Apple TV does airplay as well as streams photos, videos, movies if you use other apple devices. Thanks for the reply I have heard a lot of great things about the product. I also have a space issue with depth and is one of the reasons for considering this unit. I was also looking at the Onkyo TXNR 626 which is only slightly more but has built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but no Airplay but it is somewhat deeper of a unit and might not fit in my TV stand. Again I really appreciate your input [ Dave Dec 01, 2013 ]
I use my Yamaha RX-V475 in a theatre room and it sounds great. I paired my Yamaha with Bose speakers and it sounds awesome. I haven't tried the Airplay feature yet because it requires the extra cost of the wireless adapter. I'm an avid Apple customer and the Airplay feature was the primary reason I chose my Yamaha. Had I known about the extra cost associated? I would've chosen the more expensive Yamaha receiver that comes with built-in. I believe my Yamaha RX-V475 was a great buy for the price. But if you don't mind spending a little more? Get a Yamaha with all the latest wireless features included. I hope this helps. [ JERRY Dec 01, 2013 ]
I didn't hook it up to an Apple TV but I can tell you this receiver is great. I have no remorse or hesitation in telling you to buy it. Love the features and ability to control inputs and play music from my iPhone or iPad. I'm pairing it with Definitive Technology ProCinema speakers. My wife is anti move theaters so I brought the theater to me. It is an awesome system that was recommended from a Crutchfield rep. Huge sound. Love my Yamaha V-475 [ BENJAMIN Dec 01, 2013 ]
