Features

Overview: The Yamaha T-S500 is user-friendly AM/FM stereo tuner that provides convenient tuning functions and a high visibility, two-line display. It uses Yamaha's new HiFi component design that matches Yamaha integrated amplifiers and receivers, but can also be used with any model integrated amplifier or receiver with a stereo RCA input.

40-Station AM/FM Preset Tuning: The Yamaha T-S500 Tuner allows you to store up to 40 AM/FM station presets. The T-S500 can be set to automatically preset the 40 strongest FM stations on the dial so you don't have to select and preset them manually. Thanks to Multi-Status Station Memory, each station memory includes the parameters set when it was memorized, for optimum quality each time it is selected.

Auto Search + Manual Tuning: Automatic tuning is effective when station signals are strong and there is no interference. If the signal from the station you want to select is weak, tune into it manually.

Stereo/Mono Mode (FM only): If the signal from an FM station is weak and the sound quality is poor, set the tuner to monaural tuning mode to improve reception.

AM/FM Antennas: The Yamaha T-S500 comes with an indoor AM loop antenna and indoor FM wire antenna. You can connect an optional outdoor AM/FM antenna (sold separately) for even better reception.

RCA Output: The Yamaha T-S500 is fitted with stereo analog RCA outputs to connect the tuner to the phono input of your integrated amplifier or A/V receiver.

Display: The Yamaha T-S500 AM/FM Stereo Tuner is equipped with a 2-line, 16-character (5x7 dot matrix) display. The tuner's display provides a larger amount of more precise information, making the tuning operation easier. You can change the brightness level (1-4) of the display.

Front-Panel IR Sensor: The T-S500's front-panel IR sensor allows the remote control from a Yamaha integrated amplifier or A/V receiver to operate the tuner.

I do have a T-S500 tuner, but it's the only Yamaha component I own. I don't have a remote.

I got the A-S301 and the T-S500 at the same time, about eight months ago. The A-S301 has a remote control but the T-S500 does not. You can power off the A-S301 with the remote, but powering off the A-S301 does not affect the power on the T-S500 with the remote control or manually. You have to power off the T-S500 manually.

I am able to change channels and AM To FM bands via the AS 801. I am not able to turn on or off the TS 500 tuner. With that said, I am generally satisfied with the tuner's performance. It would be nice to be able to turn components on and of if they are Yamaha components, but it is not a deal breaker for me. Christopher from the Bronx

Nothing I am aware of. BUT, this tuner is superb as you may already know.

Yes matching amp is a Yamaha A-S500 Amplifier and the two together are great setup.
kent  Mar 25, 2017

Doubt it but suggest you never need to match brands. For a stereo best quality for the money is NAD. NAD integrated amps - power and pre - are first class. Better equipment is available (Cambridge is a good one) but not for the dollar.

The Yamaha AS-301 integrated amp, or its' more powerful siblings, are an excellent complement to the T-S500, in my opinion. The AS-301 allows bypass of the tone controls, linking the pre-amp directly to the power amp. Although not discrete units, I have been very pleased with the amps' clarity and crispness and excellent phono cartridge input. It may be hard to find separate amp/preamp units at a reasonable price these days and I suspect that the performance of today's integrated units is more than acceptable.

Q
will this product pull in HD radio stations?

A
no this tuner does not bring in the hd stations.

have my receiver hooked up to a the supplied FM antenna - I think you would need an HD antenna to pull in HD stations. I have SONOS hooked up to my stereo system, which I c an use to pick up the HD stations. The Yamaha receiver pulls in all the local stations clearly and with the 40 presets locks them in very nicely.
