About the Yamaha YAS-103
Improve your TV's sound
Improve your TV's sound
Narrow the expansive gulf between your TV's sound and picture quality. The Yamaha YAS-103 can elevate your viewing experience by delivering sound as big and detailed as your HDTV's picture. Fill in all those missing low frequencies, get clearer dialogue, and feel immersed in the soundtracks of movies and TV shows, so picture and sound are in true harmony.
Enveloping sound for movies and TV shows
Yamaha packs a lot of value into the YAS-103. But let's start with the basics: its detailed, powerful sound. Built-in amplifiers power four drivers to deliver rich, full-range sound, with plenty of high-frequency detail and low-end thump. Each end of the bar is ported for enhanced bass response, so you get deep bass without the need for a separate subwoofer. Built-in Dolby® and DTS® decoding as well as Yamaha's digital surround processing give movie and TV sound a more three-dimensional effect. It's a far cry from the flat, thin sound TV speakers are infamous for.
Bluetooth compatibility, with a twist
If you have a Bluetooth-compatible smartphone, this sound bar offers a couple of very cool features. The first is wireless music streaming, so you can use the YAS-103 to enjoy your favorite tunes — great for MP3s stored on your device or streaming music from services like Pandora® Internet radio and Spotify. But Yamaha takes Bluetooth a step further than most sound bars: download the free Yamaha Home Theater Controller app to your Apple® or Android™ smartphone and use it as a remote. It lets you select your input and choose from different surround modes.
Simple setup and operation
One cable is likely all you'll need to connect the YAS-103 to your TV to bypass its built-in speakers for room-filling sound. Choose from optical digital (included), coaxial digital, and RCA cables to connect your TV and start hearing movies and TV shows the way they were meant to sound. The included remote can learn your TV's power and volume commands. And a built-in IR repeater on the bar means that your TV remote will still work, even if the bar blocks the TV's infrared receiver.
If your HDTV's screen size is larger than 55 inches, check out the larger Yamaha YAS-152 sound bar.

Features
Soundbar Speaker System: The Yamaha YAS-103 is a slim, low-profile soundbar speaker system featuring the latest Air Surround Xtreme technologies from Yamaha and built-in dual-driver subwoofer that delivers a 7.1-channel surround sound from a single speaker unit. The Yamaha is a great addition to your flat-panel TV, replacing your television's miniscule speakers with rich, virtual surround sound. The soundbar's front panel and top have a glossy "piano black" finish that harmonizes beautifully with today's flat-panel TVs, for a stylishly compact home theater system. The YAS-103 soundbar can be table-top or wall mounted below or above your television.
Air Surround Xtreme Technology: Yamaha's exclusive Air Surround Xtreme reproduces 7.1-channel surround sound with high quality, excellent imaging, and rich presence; far superior to that of the speakers in your TV. You'll experience an extremely realistic and impressive sound field, with clear dialogue in the front and dynamic sound action at the back and sides. You can also set the soundbar speaker system to Stereo.
Active Speaker System: The Yamaha YAS-103 soundbar combines two 2.5" front-firing full-range drivers with dual 3.0" down-firing subwoofers driven by a built-in 30W RMS x 2 channel (6Ω, 1kHz, 10% THD) + 60W RMS x 1 channel (3Ω, 100kHz, 10% THD) digital amplifier. Although compact, its excellent structural design provides a large volume enclosure for all speakers. The two 2.5" full-range drivers are housed in separate acoustic suspension chambers, while the dual 3.0" subwoofers are housed together in a separate bass reflex chamber for added efficiency and better bass response.
Dual-Driver Subwoofer Design: The dual subwoofers employ large magnets and large-diameter voice coils to realize dynamic and robust bass sound reproduction. This ensures that the overall sound has a rich sense of presence, making movie effect sounds more realistic. The YAS-103 employs dual side-firing bass reflex ports (for the dual subwoofers) that have a straight shape and adequate length to provide outstanding bass response together with the large volume cabinet. The duct outlets are shaped like a trumpet bell, which reduces wind noise for better sound clarity.
Note: You can adjust the soundbar speaker's subwoofer volume independent from the speaker's main volume for added bass response.
Audio Enhancements: The Yamaha YAS-103 soundbar speaker system offers several audio adjustments to enhance your listening experience.
- Clear Voice: The Clear Voice function raises the level of dialog and narrations while maintaining overall sound quality. Movies, TV shows, sports commentary, and news broadcasts are more clearly audible.
- UniVolume: UniVolume is a Yamaha-developed technology that maintains a consistent volume level between different channels, programs, commercials, and input sources. For instance, when watching TV while using UniVolume, the volume of commercials will not be louder than the program being viewed. The same is true when switching sources to watch a DVD or Blu-ray movie, or to listen to music on CD. This is particularly helpful for late night watching and listening when spikes in volume can disturb others in the house or apartment building. This feature can be switched On or Off.
- Audio Delay Control (Lip Sync): This technology adjusts the timing of the picture and dialog, so they are always in sync with one another.
Dolby Digital/DTS Compatible Digital Inputs: The Yamaha YAS-103 soundbar is compatible with popular surround sound formats, such as Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround, so you get the full effect of multi-channel movie sound. The YAS-103 soundbar is fitted with three rear-panel digital audio inputs. The active soundbar speaker features two optical digital inputs (labeled TV, BD/DVD) and one coaxial digital input. The soundbar's digital inputs support PCM, Dolby Digital, and DTS audio signals (up to 5.1ch). There is also a stereo RCA input for connection of an analog source or if your TV does not have a digital output.
Note: The digital optical output terminals of most newer flat-panel TVs only send an audio signal in 5.1ch when receiving Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection, or connected USB device; and will output only 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, or RCA (like your Blue-ray/DVD player or satellite/cable box). That's why we recommend that you run separate digital audio cables from your TV, satellite/cable box, and Blu-ray player to the soundbar speaker for best sound performance.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Yamaha YAS-103 soundbar speaker system supports Bluetooth (v.2.1+EDR) A2DP wireless audio streaming. This allows you to stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled device (such as your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/table, or computer/laptop) to the YAS-103 soundbar speaker. You will continue to navigate your music and view song/artist information from your Bluetooth-enabled device. This unit pairs with your Bluetooth-enabled device with a single press of a button. Up to 8 devices can be paired, but only one can be used at a time. Once paired, the YAS-103 will automatically re-connect with your device when in wireless range (up to 33').
Control App (for Apple iOS/Android): The YAS-103 is compatible with Yamaha's Home Theater Control App (HT Controller), available for free download for Apple iOS (5.1+) and Android (2.3.3+) devices. Download this app from the iTunes App Store or Google Play Store. This remote app makes it easy to control the soundbar via a Bluetooth connection; including input selections, master volume, surround modes, and other settings.
Remote Control: The YAS-103's IR remote control is simple and easy to use. It lets you turn the power On or Off, adjust the volume, do other basic operations, and lets you switch the surround modes. The YAS-103 has the ability to "learn" the TV remote control operation, so you can use the TV remote control to turn the YAS-103 On or Off, and to adjust its volume. This allows you to use either the TV remote or the Yamaha remote for easy operation.
Mounting Options Because both speakers and subwoofers are built into the Yamaha YAS-103 soundbar, it fits easily into the available space you have above or below your television. With a height of only 4.1875" (with feet), the YAS-103 can be easily positioned in front of your TV so the soundbar straddles the TV stand, using the included feet. You can remove the feet and hang the YAS-103 on the wall, using the included wall-mount brackets (the soundbar's height is only 3.25" with feet removed). A wall-mounting template is provided. Wall mounting screws not included (sold separately).
Auto Standby: The soundbar will automatically turn off when there is no operation for 8 hours, or not audio input and no operation for 20 minutes.

I've only had the sound bar connected a week, but the sound is great! Hookup was very easy. My wife was happily surprised at the quality of the sound! So far, so good!
