Great Concept, Horrible Ringing on Multiple Devices

Written By John D, Charlotte, NC on Thursday, August 18, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this to use with the RX-V371. I first tried to pair my laptop, a Lenovo T500. Pairing was quick and simple, but there was an unmissable ringing that was too much to overcome. I updated the bluetooth firmware and drivers on my laptop, but the problem was still there.

Next, I tried my phone, a Samsung Focus. I had exactly the same result - a high- pitched ringing that was too much to ignore. Next I tried a mid-2008 MacBook Pro with the same result, and finally, an iPad. The iPad had the lowest amount of ringing - whereas all of my other devices produced an overwhelming ringing, it was much less pronounced with the iPad - but still very apparent. I had to return it, as it was just unusable.

Great idea that didn't work

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was very excited about using this with my iPod Touch, gen 2, OS 4.0 and my new RX-V765. I plugged it in, tried to pair with the iPod and it couldn't be found by the iPod. The blinking blue light indicated it was pairing, but no success. I tested the iPod with another Bluetooth device and it paired quickly so I asked Crutchfield for another YBA-10 thinking it was defective. They graciously sent me another and that didn't work either. I called Yamaha tech support and they said there were no known issues. Perhaps Bluetooth music streaming is a little too cutting edge right now. It seems to work okay in car receivers.

In any event, I returned both YBA-10's in exchange for a YDS-12 dock.

Save your Money!

Bought this thinking sound via my iPhone through my sound system would be awesome ... was I wrong.

This product plays, but the distortion is horrendous. Now, I have no idea if its interference, but put it this way, my car picks up my BT signal distortion free - no problem at all.

I was running this on a Yamaha RX-V3900 and Definitive speakers (which are both excellent top-of-the-line products).

Save your money until Yamaha figure out their Bluetooth bugs.

Works as expected with my V463, I use a laptop for gaming and love having the wireless freedom (haven't really tested the range, I just sit on a couch ~10ft away)
