How'd They Do That?
Written By

This thing is amazing! Once the auto-cal is completed you have sound coming from everywhere. The Dolby Digital reproduction is awesome. I'm still trying to find the way to mount it on a wall as it has holes in the back but no instructions on how to do it - that I've found.

Amazing surround sound!
Written By

Yamaha’s YSP-1100 delivers unbelievable surround sound for home theatre systems. I recommend using the coaxial input from your DVD player (my input is from the Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray player) and the optical input from your cable or satellite box. I would also highly recommend using 2 amplified sub-woofers set up as close to the 90º and 270º points as possible in your viewing room. The clarity and presence of the surround field created are absolutely amazing!

Drawbacks to Yamaha Digital Sound Projectors (YSP devices)
Written By
amythmaker, Los Angeles, CA on Monday, February 19, 2007
The initial impression of any of the Yamaha YSP digital sound projects--OEMed from 1Ltd, the same co. that made the original Pioneer PDSP--is excellence in sound. But there are caveats.
1. The YSP's sound is excellent for large screen TVs, not necessarily for audio only. For audio only, the sounds seems somewhat tinny, not what you'd get from a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system.
2. The YSP is an easy install. However by committing to the YSP you are deciding *against* using an amplifier or a receiver--because you can't attach to speaker ports on an amp. Instead you attach components to the YSP directly and the YSP becomes your incredibly limited amp with no more that 3 or maybe 4 signal sources. So, ...say TV, DVD, Tuner, and maybe VCR. Forget anything else; forget any complexity with the PC, etc. (Note that the YSPs have no HDMI connectors either).
Bottom line: The YSPs are great as large panel TV sound presentation devices, but don't imagine one as a replacement for a full audio system. If Yamaha would point the direction of how to integrate a YSP into an audio system as an advance center speaker, augmented with other speakers to provide the fullest concert hall sound, then I'd be truly excited.

Invisable Speakers ?
Written By

First off I own the previous modle Yammaha YSP-1000 That said If you are into Home theater and surround sound in general you are most likely thinking their is no way one speaker can realisticly recreate the sound of a true surround sound system.Atleast that was my thinking before hearing the YSP-1000.Well this speaker will have you looking at the corners of your room for speakers you know dont exist.Simply Amazing what YSP does to project & Reflect the sound around the room.Take note of it's size( this is no small center speaker)and add a SUB Woofer for a more well rounded sound.
