It's the YSP-2200 — but you can call it "Slim"
You spent a lot of time searching for just the right HDTV for that hard-to-fit spot. You know that great sound is half the experience but you just can't bring yourself to set speakers up all over the room or put a big black box in front of that gorgeous new TV. Put your feet up and relax. Yamaha's YSP-2200 gets the job done without getting in the way.
Easy placement and engaging sound
Adjustable pads let you set the '2200 perfectly at the foot of that new TV, without blocking the picture. An array of sixteen precision drivers stand at the ready to produce up to 7.1 channels of surprisingly realistic home theater sound. The question is how?
Beams of sound that fill your room
Yamaha's integrated IntelliBeam setup system takes over when you place the included microphone in your favorite listening position. The fully automated process adjusts the array so that it can reflect playback sound off the room itself. You'll feel like you're surrounded by speakers. But of course, you'll have just the '2200 and its companion subwoofer.
This sub knows its place — wherever that might be
This subwoofer can be positioned either vertically or horizontally, on the floor or on a shelf. Its power brings sound alive and excitement to the forefront whether you're watching a TV show or movie, playing a game, or listening to your favorite tunes. Late night viewing? Yamaha thought of that, too. Their Univolume feature keeps a handle on it, so you won't blast off unless you want to. And for regular viewing it takes the edge off the loud salvo that begins at the commercial breaks.
The YSP-2200 can sing too
With Yamaha's name on the front you know you can expect great music listening. Just add the optional Yamaha iPod® dock and let the music play. And with their outstanding Compressed Music Enhancer, the tunes from your player will sound their very best.
Add big sound to your TV without a roomful of speakers. Sound bars require minimal space and wiring, and their sleek designs complement today's flat-panel TVs. Most sound bars have their own built-in amplification, so you won't need to use a home theater receiver. Some models use advanced surround processing and carefully aimed speaker drivers to simulate the effects of a full home theater audio system.
Yamaha is great equipment, this is my second purchase. I researched a lot of sound bars but by far the price and quality of the Ysp2200 sound bar was for me. My room is 14ft by 22ft which the calibration system of this unit works great! I measured and it came out to the inch. Listen closely you'll be surprised to what you hear. Make sure you close all doors if possible. Turn beyond normal volume setting especially the subwoofer. Unit connections (hdmi) are great, it's well worth a hdmi cable purchase. Plenty of power and surround sound options! I sure you will certainly enjoy this Yamaha Technology. I also listened to Bose but didn't sound as good plus no hdmi inputs. Great with movies especially! Enjoy!!
Pros: Technology , power ,HDMI inputs and ease of set up
Cons: Remote not TV remote compatible or synronized
First of all, the pictures do it no justice. This thing looks and sounds pretty amazing! While you can tell it's not 100%, it's really close in a closed room. Without walls, it may not sound as great but the surround imaging is pretty impressive. The subwoofer surely makes a positive difference giving it a very full sound. Quite an impressive single speaker solution!
I bought this Yamaha sound bar hoping to simplify my theater system in my 12 x 16 ft living room. I knew it wouldn't give a completely true 5.1 experience but if it was even close - I thought it was worth it. On the positive side, the bar does give a strong and clear sound. It's a huge upgrade over any TV speaker (and at the price...shouldn't it be?) and I can definitely understand the benefits of one speaker/bar over five! The system also has a very nice auto calibration program that does bring some surprising surround sound effects into your room.
However, I ultimately ended up returning the unit after about a week of review and tweaking and re-calibrating for the following reasons. First of all, this unit still requires THREE cables to connect to your TV? HDMI alone won't give you the onscreen set-up menu? Along with the power cord, sub connections, digital audio, HDMI, etc...you still have a surprising tangle of wires coming from the far "sides" of the unit? To me, engineering the sound bar with all connections toward the outer ends...just doesn't make sense. It would make installations much easier with a more central/middle location.
Finally and most importantly, I just wasn't that impressed with the overall sound. Playing a combination of movies, music, and TV...I just couldn't see spending this much for an experience that wasn't as enveloping or as powerful as I'd hoped.
Pros: Definitely an upgrade over TV speakers - simplicity of one speaker vs five
Cons: Surprising amount of cables still used - overall sound quality and surround effects
Has a very full and powerful sound and looks great. The subwoofer is smaller than others I've seen and can sit vertical or horizontal. I was real worried about having this big black box sitting on the floor, and very pleased how this one turned out. The room I have it in is somewhat open, so I don't get the full surround sound experience, though I can hear it trying. If I used it in a closed room it would be fantastic. But even in my open room, it's still worth a 5 star rating.
Pros: Easy set-up, small sub, full sound
Cons: Need the right room
Auto set up is easy and accurate, even in a room slightly larger than the recommended maximum size the sound is clear and the 5.1 and 7.1 work fine, after a call to the Crutchfield support and the connected blu-ray settings were fixed. The sound projector looks as good as it sounds too, unit is used primarily for movie viewing but works equally well for music . I highly recommend both the Yamaha YSP-2200 and the Crutchfield team.
Pros: Auto set up, Sound, Looks and no more wires tracking around the room. Looks
Nice system, removed feet, used L brackets, mounted to wall under my TV. Great setup.
Pros: Easy setup and installation.
Cons: unable to get universal remote to recognize unit.
I have a very odd shaped great room/ open floor plan that makes surround sound difficult but the sound is excellen with this unitt. Better than the $800 Bose system I per chased and returned. I tried 3 different soundbars / systems including a lower model Yamaha which was good for the cost, and a same price Bose. The kicked everything's but, especially for under a $1000. I am suprised to see negative comments, but maybe the person had no idea how to follow the instructions. Setup was very easy if you follow the instructions. For best setup and sound connect the bar via video (yellow) cable to the TV and follow the easy auto setup with the provided mic. My Sharp Aquos and the bar sync via the HDMI cables and the bar has an IR out so that one remote can control both in the event the bar blocks the IR of the TV. The bar offers several sound options from standard stereo to 7.1 surround sound. Over this was a great purchase. Great sound in a very large room, and even the wife likes it and finds it easy to use. I would highly recommend this sound system to someone.
Pros: Easy to setup and auto detect for best sound
Cons: None yet.
Out of the box sound is unimpressive. Doing auto-setup improves the sound considerably. However, after doing the auto setup, spend alittle time reading the manual and doing some manual tweaking WOW! the surround sound is amazing. This bars strong suit is surround sound for movies/tv. I have no regrets. For music, it gets the job done, but if music is more important to you than movie/tv watching, I would consider something else.
Pros: Great surround sound - flexible/adjustable to your living space in more ways than one could imagine.
Cons: great sound doesn't come out of the box - you have to spend some time tweaking the system. But once done, save the settings and your done!
Underwhelmed by the system. A slight improvement over my Sony Bravia TV speakers, mostly due to the subwoofer. Wall mounting not an option (I really should have considered this - gotta build a shelf just for the speaker). Wire tether to the subwoofer. Auto-tuning doesn't work - but my Sony receiver's similar tuning works fine in the same room. Not worth the money, I regret the purchase.

Digital Sound Projector System: The Yamaha YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector system consists of a Digital Sound Projector (or "Soundbar") and a subwoofer. The YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector system provides virtual surround sound for maximum home entertainment enjoyment without the need for multiple (rear) speakers. The Yamaha YSP-2200 offers you 11 Cinema DSP modes and HD Audio format decoding, with 1080p-compatible HDMI (v.1.4a). The digital sound projector and subwoofer are both low profile, so they can fit into almost any home decor.
Rigid Enclosure: The Yamaha YSP-2200 is fitted with an aluminum body and four damping feet to eliminate vibration and distortion.
132 Watt Digital Amplifier: With a built-in 132W (Peak) digital amplifier that efficiently drives all channels, the YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector system delivers 7.1-channel surround sound with outstanding clarity and linearity.
16 Beam Drivers: The digital sound projector employs sixteen 1-1/8" beam drivers loaded in an acoustic suspension enclosure for crisp, accurate, detailed sound.
Subwoofer: The included subwoofer features two 4" woofers loaded in a bass-reflex enclosure. The subwoofer is powered by the digital sound projector (speaker cable included). The subwoofer's sound has been tuned to perfectly match the YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector.
Note: The subwoofer connects to the digital sound projector with the supplied 9.75' speaker cable. Higher-grade cable can be substituted. Both the digital sound projector and subwoofer have spring-clip terminals.
Digital Sound Projector Technology: The Yamaha YSP-2200 applies a sophisticated Digital Sound Projector technology to precisely control the orientation of the sound by focusing it through multiple beams. The center channel sound is heard directly, while sounds from other channels are heard after reflecting off walls. The result is true multichannel surround sound that sounds just like a multi-speaker system, but without the need for extra speakers.
Versatile Listening Modes: The YSP-2200 achieves virtual surround sound by directing sound beams off the walls to reach the listener from various angles. The main mode is 5 BeamPlus2 for 7-channel sources. In addition, there is a wide variety of other listening modes. You can select 3 BeamPlus2 + Stereo, 5 Beam, Stereo + 3 Beam, 3 Beam, Stereo, and My Surround.
HD Audio Format Decoding: The YSP-2200 decodes HD Audio signals to ensure that you hear the best possible sound from Blu-ray Disc players, as well as from all other digital sources. The YSP-2200 supports the following digital audio formats.
|Audio Connector||Audio Signal Formats|
|HDMI||2ch Linear PCM, 8ch Linear PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-ES, DTS-HD (Master Audio/High Resolution)|
|Optical/Coaxial||2ch Linear PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS-ES|
|Stereo RCA||2ch Stereo, Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Pro Logic II, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx|
11 Cinema DSP Modes: Yamaha's ultra-sophisticated CINEMA DSP technology creates thrillingly realistic soundscapes in any room. You can select 11 different programs, including three Movie, three Music and five Entertainment modes.
Music Enhancer: Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing with exclusive algorithms to enable playback that improves the performance of compressed music formats, including MP3 and WMA. When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3 or WMA, the frequency response suffers. This function restores what was lost, so your music always sounds the way it should. With the Compressed Music Enhancer, highs and especially lows are richer and smoother, bringing music back to life to be as close to the original as possible
IntelliBeam Automated System Calibration: This Yamaha exclusive feature ensures optimum multichannel sound reproduction with accurate image location. By monitoring and analyzing the sound with the microphone included with the YSP-2200, IntelliBeam automatically sets the best beam angles, while optimizing the level and frequency response of each beam. This makes initial setup both extremely simple and acoustically perfect. The unit performs the following automatic optimizations with the aid of the supplied microphone.
Note: Make sure there are no obstacles between the IntelliBeam microphone and the walls in your listening room, as these objects obstruct the path of the beams. However, any objects that are in contact with the walls, will be regarded as a protruding part of the wall.
Manual Beam Setup: In addition to the auto setup, you can manually fine tune the beam outputs:
Beam Memory: The YSP-2200 lets you store your IntelliBeam or Manual Beam settings (1-3) for easy recall. This is useful for saving settings under varying conditions (curtains open, curtains closed, etc).
Tone Control: You can adjust the YSP-2200's Bass & Treble to increase or decrease the system's high/low frequency sound.
DRC: You can activate the Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) function to compress the dynamic range of the output signals when playing back a soundtrack in Dolby Digital soundtrack.
Volume Balance Adjustment: Use this feature to adjust the volume balance of each channel during playback. You adjust the Front Left, Front Right, Center, Surround Left, Surround Right, and Subwoofer channels (+/- 10dB).
UniVolume: UniVolume is a Yamaha-developed technology that maintains a consistent volume level between different channels, programs, commercials and input sources. For instance, when watching TV while using UniVolume, the volume of commercials will not be louder than the program being viewed. The same is true when switching sources to watch a DVD or Blu-ray movie or to listen to music on CD. This is particularly helpful for late night watching and listening when spikes in volume can disturb others in the house or apartment building.
Volume Trim: The level (+/- 6dB) of each input can be adjusted so the volume remains the same when switching from one input to another.
Turn On Volume: The system's volume can be set to come on at a preset level when power is turned on.
Audio Inputs: The digital sound projector is equipped with one analog input and three digital audio inputs (2 optical/1 coaxial).
1080p Compatible HDMI (v.1.4a): The Yamaha YSP-2200 provides 3 in/1 out HDMI (v.1.4a) connections with support for 1080p (60/24Hz) resolution. HDMI V.1.4a supports 3D, ARC, Deep Color, x.v.Color, and Auto Lip-Sync.
Note: All audio/video connections are found on the rear-panel of the digital sound projector.
Composite Video Output: The digital sound projector is also equipped with a standard-definition composite video output. (The on-screen display is only output through the composite output.)
3D-Ready: The HDMI connections will accept 3D video from your 3D Blu-ray player and output the video signal in 3D to your 3D-ready HDTV.
ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.
Deep Color: The HDMI inputs/output support Deep Color, increasing the number of bits available for transmission, meaning more colors. This results in much greater color fidelity, smooth tonal transitions, and ultra-fine gradations between colors. It also enables many times more shades of gray, for higher contrast ratio.
x.v.Color: The HDMI inputs/output also support x.v.Color space, reproducing a wide range of colors and displaying almost all of the colors the human eye can detect.
Auto Lip-Sync: The YSP-2200 automatically adjusts the delay in output timing between video signals and audio signals so they match when you are watching a movie.
Front-Panel LCD: The digital sound projector is equipped with a front-panel LCD to indicate source status. The front-panel LCD offers adjustable brightness control. You can even turn the display off.
Multi-Language On-Screen Display: The Yamaha digital sound projector features a multi-language on-screen display. Choose from English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Dutch, and Swedish.
Note: The digital sound projector's composite video output must be connected to your television to view the system's on-screen menu.
Input Rename Function: You can rename each input so the display reflects the actual source, up to nine characters.
Auto Power Down: When Auto Power Down is activated, the unit is turned to standby mode automatically after approximately 10 minutes of no audio/video signal. This function is useful to prevent you from forgetting to turn off the unit.
Sleep Timer: You can set the sleep timer to turn the unit off in 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes.
Remote Control: The YSP-2200 includes an IR remote control for wireless operation of the system and your connected iPod/iPhone (via optional dock).
HDMI Control: You can use your TV's remote control to operate this system, if your television supports the HDMI control function (ex. REGZA Link) and is connected to digital sound projector's HDMI output. This unit will automatically select the input according to the input source setting on your TV. You will also be able to turn on/off the system with your television.
IR Output: The YSP-2200 features an IR output and includes an IR flasher in case the digital sound projector blocks the remote receiver on the front-panel of your TV. The IR flasher receives the signal from your TV remote and then transmits the control signal to your TV.
Low Profile: The digital sound projector is only 3 1/8" high, so you can place it in front of most flat screen TVs without blocking the picture. The height-adjustable feet (1-1/8" to 1-1/2") let you achieve optimum positioning. The feet can also be removed, reducing the height of the speaker to only 2". The included compact subwoofer can be used vertically or horizontally, so you can place it inside or outside a rack.
Note: To achieve desired surround sound effects, install digital sound projector where there are no objects, such as furniture, obstructing the path of the sound beams.
Mounting: The digital sound projector can be placed horizontally on a shelf or a stand above or below your flat-panel TV. Positioning can be parallel to a wall or in a corner. The only major requirement is the room must have side and rear walls for beam reflection to create the surround effect. The included subwoofer can be positioned vertically or horizontally on a shelf or on the floor.
Note: The digital sound projector is not wall-mountable.
Magnetic Shielding: The digital front projector is magnetically shielded for safe placement next to your television. The system's subwoofer is not video shielded and should not be placed next to your TV.
iPod Universal Dock: With the optional YDS-12 iPod Dock (022YDS12, sold separately), you can connect your compatible iPod or iPhone to the YSP-2200 and control audio/video playback using the remote control. Most fourth generation and later iPods (clickwheel) are compatible. Video from your iPod and album art can be displayed on a connected TV monitor (via composite video).
Note: The YSP-2200 will not up-convert iPod/iPhone video to component or HDMI.
iPod Wireless Dock: The Yamaha YID-W10 (022YIDW10, sold separately) is a wireless dock system designed for Apple iPod/iPhone and the Yamaha YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector. The YID-W10 consists of a wireless iPod/iPhone dock transmitter (which plugs into your iPod/iPhone) and a receiver base (which plugs into the Dock-port on the YSP-2220. The YID-W10 lets you enjoy iPod/iPhone audio through your compatible Yamaha Digital Sound Projector while viewing cover-art, watching videos, or playing games on your iPod/iPhone screen.
