Yamaha YSP-3000 Digital Sound Projector

A great product if space is really a premium. Otherwise I'd spend the same money to purchase a separate receiver and Polk Audio sound bar w/ a small subwoofer. Reason being, the Yamaha doesn't have a lot of connection options for the price and the bass doesn't really deliver.

This is an excellent product replacing my receiver, very large floor speaker, center, etc. No more rats nest of wires across the floor! I am even listening to the radio again. It sounds that good. Voice reproduction is very
accurate. I also have the yamaha subwoofer from crutchfield so my movies lack for nothing. Classical music or pop cds sound good.

This is an excellent product. In the proper environment it is completely amazing that such room filling and spatially accurate surround can emanate from one enclosure.
During movie viewing with the system in 5 beam mode dialogue was always clear and understandable, and the left/right effects were believably placed. The surround channels were diffuse and very well replicated.
When I sampled the unit with music, in particular the Norah Jones Come Away With Me CD, the Yamaha had a surprisingly accurate sound. While experimenting with both the 3 beam and stereo plus 3 beam modes Norah's voice was warm and breathy, and the piano had a nice woody tone.
The remote is not backlit, and this resulted in a lot of frustration as I fumbled around in the dark trying to find the right buttons. This problem was compounded by the fact that the buttons are rather small. At this price, I consider the lack of a backlit remote to be a serious oversight.
Connectivity options are plentiful, if not initially a bit confusing. It helps that Yamaha includes several types of cables in the box. Unfortunately HDMI cable(s) are not included.
Purchased for what it is, the Yamaha YSP 3000 represents a top notch and intelligent alternative to the clutter and wires of traditional surround sound systems. For many people, this lack of wires and the associated installation hassles is in and of itself enough to merit a purchase.

Due to space constraints and after a lot of research I bought the YSP-3000. The clincher for me in buying this soundbar was the fact that Yamaha claimed you could watch movies from your video ipod thru the optional YDS-10 ipod dock. I was sold. I went out and bought the YSP-3000, the YDS-10 and went home to try it out. The soundbar sounded good, then I plugged in my video ipod into the YDS-10 and..........no video. I went over the manual and made sure I had hooked everything up right. Still no video. I contacted Yamaha customer service and they responded via email that it will not show videos. I copied their website details with respect to this issue, and emailed back asking, "why does it state that it will" What gives? Their reply.........."SORRY ABOUT THAT." Based on this, I would not recommend this product, or any product made by Yamaha.
