Overview Details Customer Reviews Category Info Accessories Our take on the Yamaha YST-FSW150 by Loren Barstow Why add a powered subwoofer? A powered subwoofer gives you bass you can feel as well as hear. Our customers love the depth and impact their subs add to music and movies. We hear comments like "it brings out sounds I didn't know existed in discs I've watched a million times." Powered subwoofers aren't just for big bass that rattles your picture frames; they can also deliver tight, accurate lows. If you haven't shopped for a powered sub in a while, you might be surprised at how small they get. Look for an ultra-compact model if you want to tuck your sub away under an end table or in a corner. The Yamaha YST-FSW150 delivers punchy bass without the boxy look of conventional subwoofers. Its sleek, low-profile design nicely complements single-speaker sound solutions, such as the Yamaha YSP-4000. And you can place this ultra-compact sub on a shelf in your A/V rack or cabinet, so you won't need to sacrifice valuable floor space. Front-mounted controls give you easy access to power and volume. Features Controls Connections Features Advanced YST Technology II: The Advanced Yamaha Active Servo Technology is a unique system in which the speaker and amplifier work together to cancel out impedance so the speaker unit has a perfectly linear motion. By doing this, the YST-FSW150 ensures the highest levels of sound pressure and overall performance. High Efficiency Amplifier: The 130 watt dynamic power amplifier used in the YST-FSW150 is capable of delivering large amounts of reserve power for accurate reproduction of high energy peaks needed for those extreme action movie moments that require a heavy dose of bass. This technology also emphasizes the dynamic qualities and provides a sharper sound image for music listening. Driver: The YST-FSW150 uses a down-firing 6.3125" multi-range woofer to create tight and accurate bass. The 6.3125" woofer is also video shielded so you can place the unit close to your TV without harming the Television. Linear Port Design: The YST-FSW150's bass reflex enclosure uses a front-firing linear port to minimize extraneous noise which helps offer distortion free bass notes. Mounting: The Yamaha YST-FSW150 powered subwoofer's enclosure design is engineered to be mounted horizontally or vertically. The powered subwoofer features four attached feet which allows you to mount the unit horizontally for a low-profile installation. The YST-FSW150 also comes with a vertical stand and four self-adhesive non-skid pads that allow you to mount the unit vertically if preferred. The unit's subwoofer will be side-firing if mounted vertically. Controls Power: This control button powers on and off the YST-FSW150. Volume Control: You can adjust the volume level (0-10) of the subwoofer to match the level of sound from the other speakers in your application. Connections Line Input: The subwoofer has a rear mounted mono-RCA Line Level input. This input is for use with receiver or amplifiers featuring a filtered subwoofer pre-out jack. You may need a "Y adapter" to connect the left and right outputs of your receiver or amplifier to the YST-FSW150 if your receiver or amplifier features a stereo subwoofer output.. System Connector: The YST-FSW150 features a 3.5mm minijack port for connecting the supplied system control cable. By connecting this cable between the YST-FSW150 and your Yamaha receiver (equipped with a system connector jack) the power of the YST-FSW150 can be controlled by the power button of your connected Yamaha receiver. Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. I was interested in this sub because of it's unique size. My wife didn't want a large sub sitting on the floor of the living room and she liked that I was able to place this one on a shelf below my components. I was skeptical at first that it wouldn't sound very good but once I plugged it in and tested some movies and music, I was pretty impressed with the sound. If you need a small, space-saving sub, this is a great solution. Pros: Great size. Sounded better than I expected. 2 out of 2 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. I got this subwoofer to place under a custom make stereo shelf and it fits perfectly. It produces a decent amount of bass for its small size, but don't expect it to hit like a 10" or 12" woofer. If you tune it to match the volume of the other speakers, you can crank up the music and it doesn't distort or bottom out. And one of the nice things is when it's powered on or off it doesn't make a harsh snapping or popping sound like some other models do. Something to keep in mind is that it lacks a cross over dial to limit the high end frequencies, so it does reproduce a little more then it needs (Ex: 100+ Hz range). But this is not an issue if you can limit it from your receiver. Over all, a well designed, good sounding woofer for those looking to round out a small stereo setup or space conscious surround sound package. 21 out of 22 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? This small subwoofer is connected to my Yamaha YSP-1000 in my living room, a small 15'X15' space, and truly makes the movies come alive on my SonyXBR. I have not used my Yamaha Receiver with it's surround six speaker system since adding this YST-FSW150 to my old Yamaha YSP-1000 sound bar. Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. The size/form factor of this product was perfect for my application. However, the lack of a crossover frequency control is a big disadvantage. The out of the box crossover frequency (~154Hz) is too high for me and I'll bet most applications unless you have really small main speakers. If you don't care about the warranty, it only takes 3 resistor changes to drop the crossover frequency. So, now that I have voided my warranty and dropped the crossover frequency, I am pleased with my purchase. Pros: Size/Form factor Cons: No crossover frequency adjustment. 2 out of 2 people found this helpful Was this review helpful?
