just works

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this for use with a Yamaha R-N500. Hooked it to my Mac for setup, which is simple and worked right the first time.

Pros: Simple setup. Just works.

Cons: None so far.

Works well on my network

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was skeptical about purchasing this unit due to the poor reviews. I however, did not experience any difficulties connecting. I have an Apple Airport Extreme and was able to connect very easily. If you have questions there are YouTube videos how to connect. The WPS basically connects as if the wireless adapter was a printer. It makes no difference as the connection is the same. I have not had any issues with dropped signal or other problems others spoke of.

Pros: connects easily to WPS network

YWA-10 Confusing Instructions

Written By KH, Oregon on Tuesday, June 02, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The device works like a 5 star product but the setup instructions are confusing. Using a PC for setup is the only way to go as the Router WPC feature just didn't work on this device.

Pros: Small footprint, once connected clear uninterrupted signal.

Cons: Lousy setup instructions.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Horrible product. Recommended by Crutchfield employee.

Pros: None.

Cons: Works poorly. On the phone for Hours with tech support, but, little resolution.

good product but...must use pc to setup!

Written By alex r, corona ca on Saturday, March 28, 2015

Good product. Disregard the instructions it comes with. Go directly to Yamaha on line, there is a total different set of instructions. I tried for 30 min with the instructions it came with. Gave up searched the Internet and found better instructions online. Basically this is like an old school router that needs to be programmed. Very easy with the steps online.

Pros: Good connection. Its a yamaha product

Cons: Instructions it comes with are not very good online info at yamaha. Com is way easier to use.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works as advertised, however, having an equipped router is a must for easy set up.

Pros: Opens the door for many of the receiver's Wi-Fi-required features, such as Air-Play, and Internet radio, etc.

Cons: Is a must-have add-on purchase for the receiver. Set up is required after installation.

Written By don, ct on Wednesday, August 06, 2014

product since purchase been a pain to keep connected. did not set up with wps, instructions for set up guaranteed to lead you into confusion and missteps if you can even get the set up site to load. in this site it will ask you for info that you wont understand or have no idea how to find with no help from instructions (what is a shared key code and where do you find it?-and what about ip addresses? the address shown in yamaha reciever info screen doesnt work). customer support-yamaha- not much help after long wait. they would rather blame router even though other wireless devices working fine. paid around a $100 to have tech establish connectivity firs time and he didnt even know how he did it. with reset of router cant reconnect. nice when it worked but near impossible to achieve connectivity

Pros: once connected very convenient

Cons: connectivity a matter of luck

Horrible product

Written By JeffN, Frisco tx on Friday, May 30, 2014

Don't bother with this. I spent 3 hours to get it to work. Once it worked it is flaky and keeps dropping connections. Constantly having to unplug my router, this thing, and the receiver. Difficult to configure and once configured does not work well at all. Should have paid someone to run a cat 5 instead of wasting money and time on this.

Pros: None.

Cons: Don't buy this. Go buy another product that does the same thing or pay someone to run a wire.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had a problem getting this adapter to make a connection to the internet. Crutchfield sent me another one and it worked fine. Listen to Pandora everyday !!

Pros: Great piece of equipment. wireless.

Cons: Can be a little misleading on hooking up.

Written By DMR70, New York, NY on Tuesday, March 04, 2014

I thought this was a terrible product before I got my new router. It never worked with WPS so I had to manually configure it, which was a lot trickier than it had to be. Once it was all set up properly, it would randomly drop the Airplay connection. Sometimes it would work all day long, and other times it would drop out every 3-4 minutes with no explanation. Junk!

Then I got a new router. Now I can't get it to connect at all. Not even manually. Every other device made the transition to the new router seamlessly.

There are 50 ways to get the music to the receiver that don't involve the YWA-10, and almost all of them are better and cheaper.

Pros: It won't take up much room in the trash can.

Cons: I bought it. That's the biggest negative.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This device is easy to set up using WPS but is a little tricky using manual setup. WPS works very quickly, and I was connected in a minute and streaming pandora, dlna, or apple airpaly of music.

The problem I encountered is that my Router sometimes disconnects, maybe once a week, this causes the WPS setup to fail and a loss of connectivity until it is set back up. To overcome this I did the manual setup. Make sure that you reset the YWA-10 if you want to change the settings, try to reconnect with WPS, or go from WPS to manual or vice versa. If you don't reset you will have trouble getting the device to connect to your network or to log in to it using the manual setup. With manual setup you have to connect the device to a PC to set it up. It is a little tricky but if you have basic computer and networking knowledge you should not have a problem. Once connected this device works excellent. If you have trouble using airplay (I was connected for all net apps except airplay) try restarting your router and/or disconnecting the power cord momentarily from the YWA-10.

If you are having disconnect issues try looking at your router or placement of the YWA-10 in relation to your router.

Pros: Compact and easy to hide. Allows for easy steaming of your media. Allows you to use the remote app on your ipad/smartphone.

Cons: A little expensive, manual setup can be tricky.

Total Junk

Written By DaveF, Cloverdale, CA on Thursday, November 28, 2013

First off---I really like Yamaha products, but this one is a dog! Haven't had so much trouble with a wifi device since when they first came out. I have at least a half-dozen devices currently on Wifi (through an Airport Extreme router) and all that any required was just entering my password, etc.

I spent half a day trying to reach their web site I needed to program the YWA-10. Even two calls to Crutchfield technical support didn't help.

Pros: None

Cons: Not user friendly----instructions for programing were bogus----Crutchfield technical help couldn't help and nothing about these problems on the Yamaha web site---not even a link to the programing page.

Doesn't work!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Even after calling Crutchfield tech support several times and downloading my WiFi router information onto the adapter, it will not connect to my WiFi. Something is wrong and I have no idea what it is.I will just plug my smart phone into the front of the AV Receiver and get music that way.

Pros: good in principle

Cons: Can't get it to work

Works great, but manual setup is difficult

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you can connect your Yamaha receiver to Internet with an Ethernet cable, don't buy this wi-fi adapter. I had to configure it manually for my router (Apple Time Capsule). Not user friendly, and a couple router settings the instructions said to look for weren't found. (Other components with built-in wi-fi [including a Yamaha Blu-ray player] are as simple as selecting and logging into your LAN wi-fi once. Not sure why this adapter cannot work the same way.) After 3 attempts I finally got it. Once configured it has been working flawlessly.

Pros: Internet connection adds much more versatility to Yamaha AV receiver - including Apple Airplay, Internet radio, remote app usability (especially useful for Zone 2 control), and other services.

Cons: 1. Manual configuration is difficult. 2. Overpriced (but if you need it, well...). A flimsy plastic box with a couple connection jacks and electronics; seems like Yamaha should price it at about $25 instead of this much.

Great product plugged right into the back of my receiver. Sat down connected right to my tab and BAM! Music to my ears they even have a few Web channels that aren't bad.

Pros: Easy setup plug n play into the back of my receiver so you don't even have to see it :) access to all your music wireless is a beautiful thing.

Cons: I have none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a hard time understanding the instructions, I could not tell if I was suppose connect with my laptop or through the receiver for programing. I called tech support at Crutchfield, the tech had already had some experience with the YWA-10, the tech had me connect up with my laptop then walked me through the steps needed then we did a test to see if the YWA-10 was talking with my router... It was and I connected it to my receiver and so far it has worked great

Pros: Gives you access to Net Radio, Pandora, AirPlay, Rhapsody and Sirius XM

Cons: Could be better priced...

Written By Rob, Cherry Hill, NJ on Monday, July 15, 2013

Difficult to install. Often stops streaming for unknown reason. Crutchfield tech did not know how to install product.

Pros: Nice when working

Cons: Tough to set up and often stops working. Not worth the money

Product Good, Tech Support Not Good

Written By ElectronicOne, California on Friday, June 07, 2013

Was having difficulties connecting the YWA10 to my router via Wifi, called Crutchfield for technical support the guy was of no use he kept asking me did I follow the directions that came with the YWA10 I said YES...I do I.T. myself so i made sure to cover all my bases before calling Crutchfield and his only resolution for me was to send me a new YWA10...What the heck, being very fustrated I decided to call Yamaha and they walked me through everything and had my YWA10 up and running within 10 minutes. =)

Pros: Great Product, Love the App

Cons: Crutchfield tech is of no help, Call Yamaha

Crutchfield response on Monday, June 17, 2013 Our tech support specialist wasn't familiar with this product. He learned the hard way that the Yamaha manual can be confusing. The Yamaha setup instructions page is more helpful. Thanks for your comment. We'll do better next time.

Didn't work

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This wireless receiver did not work at all even after spending hours on the phone with techs at Crutchfield. Even through this is the proper wireless Wi-Fi device per Yamaha I was never able to access the internet via the YWA-10 for net stations. Additionally, the adaptor requires you to plug it in to the usb port on the front of a Yamaha RX-V573 AV receiver and that looks terrible and uses the only usb port on the unit, poor design.

Pros: None

Cons: It doesn't work

does what it is suppsoed to

Written By mark, va on Tuesday, May 07, 2013

works like it supposed to - my router is nowhere near my receiver so i had to go this route.

Pros: works

Cons: price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Set up with secure wireless network took about 5 min. Using with Yamaha A720 AirPlay working so far with no drops. Using iPhone and iPad to control system is easy. The YWA-10 is an excellent choice if you do not wish to run a cat5 cable from your computer or in our case have not decided on a permanent location to install in wall cat5 connection.. Crutchfield had product to me in 2 days.

Never could get it to work. I spent 4 hours working on it with Tech support. It is just too complicated. Ended up spending less than the cost of the unit to just run a CAT 5 wire to the A/V unit. Don't waste your time or money.

Pros: none

Cons: Too complicated
