About the Blaupunkt GTb 8200 A

Bob Bihlmayer

The little giant

Looking for a compact powered subwoofer that still has the sonic benefits of a bigger box? Blaupunkt brings you the GTb 8200 A powered sub, which combines a 8" subwoofer with a Class D amplifier in a ported enclosure that's less than a foot square, giving you the added resonance of a deeper enclosure while taking up a minimum of space. The amplifier is rated at 75 watts RMS (200 watts peak) so there's plenty of power on tap. And its separate controls for low-pass filter, phase, and gain allow you to tune the subwoofer to your vehicle.

Blaupunkt covers the 3/4" MDF enclosure with black carpet to protect it from scrapes and scratches, and the box also sports two metal bars to protect the woofer. The subwoofer and amplifier are perfectly matched, resulting in a solid bass system that'll give you years of enjoyment.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The GTb 8200 A amplified subwoofer features a 75-watt RMS (200-watt max) amp and an 8" subwoofer housed in a ported enclosure. The slot port fires up (located across the top of the enclosure, along the back edge).

Auto Turn-On: When the speaker level inputs are used, the system automatically turns on and off by sensing the voltage on the speaker input. After approximately 60 seconds with no speaker level input signal, the amplifier will turn off.

Note: The auto turn-on feature does not operate when the preamp level inputs are used; the amp turns on/off using the wired remote terminal.

Controls:

  • Gain: rotary dial; variable from 300mV to 8V when using line level inputs, 700mV to 19V when using speaker level inputs
  • Phase: rotary dial; variable from 0° to 180°
  • X-Over: rotary dial; sets low-pass crossover point; variable from 70 Hz to 190 Hz

Connections:

  • Power: the power (+12V), ground, and remote turn-on connections are on a terminal strip; each screw terminal is approximately 0.375" wide; Blaupunkt recommends 14-gauge (minimum) power and ground wires
  • Speaker Level Input: the speaker level inputs are spring terminals that will accept speaker wire up to 12-gauge
  • Line Level Input: left and right female RCA preamp level inputs
  • Fuse: 7.5-amp ATO fuse installed

Dimensions:

  • Width: 10-5/8" (including the protrusion of the control knobs and terminal strip)
  • Height: 10-3/8"
  • Depth (bottom): 10-3/4" (the two steel grille rods add 1" to the depth)
  • Depth (top): 8-1/4"

Well I've had it installed for about a week now and I believe you can indeed hear the richer sound and some extra thump. However, if your looking for a good chest thump you're not going to get it from this.

I installed mine in a 2005 Outback and it is better than I expected! I barely have the thing turned up and I have my stereo sub output at 400 Hz...it goes to 1200 Hz. My rear view mirror shakes now if I want the music loud at all. I hooked mine up to the Blaupunkt New Jersey receiver and love that as well. Hope this helps.

I have this in a hatchback, so you cant put this to gospel. Yes you will have the added bass. I used to have a vehicle with a similar sized sub and amp in a vehicle with a trunk and the bass was audible, however it will be muted or not as pronounced as an open environment like a hatchback. It isnt a giant amp and sub combo in a separated enclosure (ie trunk). For $110 plus the installation cables how could this really fail you. Hope this is helpful. If you go this route prepare for another phenomenon known as rattle. Even a small sub like this will find what isnt super tight in your trunk and distort the sound to a metal rattling.

I installed this in the trunk of my 06 cobalt. You can hear it very well. Of course some music comes through more than others, and people are not going to hear you blocks away, but it really helps fill in the lows my other speakers were missing. Joe

This sub is too small for use in a trunk. It works great in my hatchback.

Honestly I don't think so not in a closed off trunk
