A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound. Blaupunkt GT component systems combine modern design and high reliability in a hard-to-beat speaker value. The GTc542 component system teams together two 5-1/4" woofers and 2 tweeters with built-in crossovers in a package that offers good power handling and high efficiency. The result they'll deliver big sound even without an amplifier. The GTc542 5-1/4" component system features polypropylene woofers that deliver full, accurate bass. Blaupunkt designs the woofer baskets to allow proper ventilation, so the voice coils stay cool for higher power handling. Mylar semi-dome tweeters reproduce the vocal and instrumental details smoothly and cleanly. Mounting hardware comes included in the box, so you can flush-, surface-, or angle-mount the tweeters to achieve great stereo imaging in your car. Complete with designer grilles and chromium-plated tweeter rings, GTc542 components will bring out all the musical details that factory speakers miss your music will sound almost as lifelike and natural as it does in concert. Injected Polypropylene cones are acoustically inert and do not add coloration to the original recording. Each woofer uses a foam surround. Voice Coil Ventilation: The woofer baskets feature 12 holes which serve as additional voice coil ventilation. The extra ventilation helps keep the voice coil cool for higher power handling. Mylar Tweeters: The GT series component speakers feature 1" Mylar semi-dome tweeters for clean, accurate highs. Needed to upgrade the front speakers in my Vibe (terrible) and this was a reasonable option that I could mount the tweeters higher in the door. Installation went well, however the install details from Blaupunkt were terrrible. They provide 3 tweeter mounting options, but poor details on how to implement. I mounted them external on the inside plates behind the side mirrors. They look stock. Of course, Crutchfield sent mounting adapters and wires that made the installation very simple. Sound is much improved over OEM. Probably need to do the rear speakers too. BTW- Stock speakers were the cheapest I've ever seen. magnets were the size of a quarter and the sound was horrific. They tend to distort at the lowest part of their frequency range, but that's not surprising for speakers of their size running off the factory amplifier. Overall they are a huge improvement over the tired old factory speakers. The tweeters are another story. They look cheap, and sound awful. Very oddly there seems to be an entire frequency range (between the woofers and these tweeters) with very poor response.
