Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed about Hobo Joe's experience, and I will agree that the cross overs could have been a bit better, but in my case I did not have any problems. The cut outs and popping sounds like Hobo Joe is having issues with power/signal going to the tweeters. It very well could be the cross overs causing the issues and not issues with the tweeters. I had tested each speaker separately before installation to ensure there wasn't an issue and as a set with the cross over. I would recommend Joe test his tweeters and the cross over separately.

8 months later and no complaints. Multiple passengers have listened to my setup all of which agree the speakers are very clear and crisp and displayed no problems.

Pros: Cost/performance

Cons: Modification maybe required

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Skeptical about ordering these speakers because of lack of reviews, but figured I'll give it a shot. Man what a mistake. Opened the box and saw the lack of quality especially in the "crossover". Very cheap and flimsy. The woofers arent too bad. The tweeters on the otherhand are horrible. They crackle and cutout. I kick myself for buying these horrible speakers. Can't wait to toss these in the trash and move to either Kenwood, Alpine, or Polk.

Pros: Decent woofers, otherwise nothing

Cons: Tweeters crackle and break up, crossover is flimsy, not a well put together system at all

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speaker set. Unit comes with in line cross over cables for a pair of tweeters. The tweeters and woofers can almost stand on their own with richness of sound far superior to the stock speakers. These speakers mounted into my front doors with modification. The plastic housing for the stock speakers are too shallow and small for the speakers. You have to toss the plastic housing and cut a new one. I used particle board and cut a mounting bracket that worked wonderfully per someone's suggestion. I drilled three holes to mount the tweeters. The tweeters have two mounts you can use (one that mounts at a slant and one that mounts flat) and are directional. You will need replacement screws for the custom mount. I had some on hand for the wood mount that were long enough and used the three screws from the stock setup to mount the new speakers.

Pros: Comes with long nice cross over cables for your woofer/tweeter setup Good range from the tweeters Nice punch from the woofers Great audio quality for value (by far better than the stock speakers) Visually appealing Low sound distortion when cranked up from head unit alone

Cons: Not a drop in for Hondas

Woofer Size: The GT Power 65.2 c is marketed as having a 6-1/2" woofer, but it requires a slightly larger opening than a typical 6-1/2" and has a four hole bolt pattern. Be sure to check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit, and keep in mind that drilling new screw holes may be necessary.

Tweeter: Out of the box, the tweeters are mounted in the flush mount housings. An angled surface mount housing is also included, and the back of the the flush mount housing and the top of the angled surface mount housing are combined to make the (non-angled) surface mount housing. Once mounted, the tweeters swivel so you can direct them toward the listening positions.

Tweeter Dimensions:

Crossover: The crossovers are in-line with the included speaker wire. On the input side the wire is 8' long and terminates with tinned bare wire. The tweeter and woofer outputs are both 28" long and are terminated with quick slides. No crossover frequency or slope information was provided by the manufacturer.
