An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. One, you can scroll through your song titles on your stereo's larger display, instead of squinting down at your iPod. Two, you can route the adapter cable to your glove compartment or center console, so your iPod stays safely out of sight. Three, the iPod adapter keeps your iPod fully charged, so it's ready to rock when you leave your car. And last of all, some adapters bypass your iPod's internal digital-to-analog converter, using your stereo's superior DAC to turn your files back into music. Pack your iPod with music and take it on the road with Blaupunkt's iPod adapter. The adapter allows you to listen to your digital music collection through your car's speakers, and control the tunes with your compatible Blaupunkt stereo. Just connect the adapter to your radio's CD changer input, plug in your iPod, and you're ready to go. Use the buttons on your stereo to control all of the major iPod functions like track up/down, volume, and fast forward/rewind and choose from up to nine of your existing playlists. A tenth playlist setting lets you shuffle among all the tunes on your iPod at once. And convenient control is just the beginning. Track and playlist information will show up on the radio's display as long as the iPod is connected. Best of all, the adapter will even charge your iPod while it's in use. Features Compatibility: This adapter allows an iPod G3/G4, iPod Mini, iPod photo, iPod nano, or iPod video portable digital music player with a dock connector to be controlled by most Blaupunkt receivers with CD changer controls built in 2004 and later. The compatible models include the CD35/MP35, MP54, and MP74 series head units. All the iPod buttons are disabled when connected to this adapter and it will be controlled from the Blaupunkt receiver. With this interface, you'll be able to play your iPod music files through your Blaupunkt receiver and have the titling information appear on the Blaupunkt's display if it's CD Text compatible. Display: The available information varies based on the radio's display capability. Radios with the CD Text feature have alphanumeric displays and can show the playlist and song names. Radios without this alphanumeric capability will display only the numbers corresponding to playlists and songs. Controls: The controls on the Blaupunkt receiver include next track, previous track, next playlist, previous playlist, and repeat. The last position is stored when power is turned off and playback resumes there. Connections: The 4' input cable on the adapter plugs into the iPod's dock connecter. The 1' output cable plugs into the back of the Blaupunkt receiver in the CD changer port. Power Supply: When the receiver is on and the iPod is connected, the iPod is supplied power for playback and to charge the battery. First the lack of documentation was 'interesting', but browsing Blau's German and UK websites gave some additional (albeit Blaupunkt cryptic) information and firmware updates.Got the setup working, even got some (fairly tame) scrolling name and artist display to work on the MP54. Not the greatest, but I figured that going in, and was mostly interested in the controls, input and charging abilities. Problems:- Hiss - noticeable hiss. This was worse than just hooking up through the headphone jack and an AUX input. I dare say using an FM modulator would probably have less noise. Tried different iPods, no difference- Stops working every month or so. Either no response whatsoever, or the input designation goes back to "AUX1" and the head unit ignores the adaptor. Only way to fix it is to reset the headunit (e.g. disconnect the battery, lose all settings/presets). After the reset, it'll work for a number of weeks, then repeat the process. Bad audio quality and the fact it stops working make it completely useless. 4 out of 4 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 1 out of 5 Does NOT Work! Hitting up/down or left/right arrows on the head unit only moves between those two songs, IF you are lucky, since an additional PROBLEM is its lack of response to head unit controls. Still another PROBLEM is that it plays 1/2 second of each song 2x before finally playing the song on the 3rd attempt. The last PROBLEM is the audible hiss during any playback.Serious kudos to the Crutchfield customer service crew, who sent me two different interfaces and three different Blaupunkt head units to try, but with no success. They treated the iPod functionality exactly like a CD changer when the iPod is alot more features than a clunky CD changer. The Blaupunkt UK site had the MP3 patches for the interface which is nice but this did not work fully for my Blaupunkt Acapulco MP54 which is supposed to display the text. Half the time, when I disconnected the ipod from the interface to use it elsewhere, and then reconnect, the head unit couldn't re-establish a connection with it. First, until you buy the adapter, you have no way of knowing that the advertised features are only fully available when it is used with certain receivers (read: probably not the one you have/are planning on buying). The good news is that this information exists and obtaining it is as easy as navigating the Blaupunkt UK site. The next disappointment came when I plugged my iPod in for the first time. Once connected, the adapter takes control of the iPod, going so far as to replace the iPod navigation with Blaupunkt's own proprietary user display (I'd say "user interface" but that implies that the user can actually *interact* with the system). This means that since my receiver (the Blaupunkt Laguna CD35) isn't (fully) compatible, I don't get to see the name of the current track until 5-20 seconds after it's started playing. This makes selecting, changing or viewing a track name very dangerous unless you're parked (and it's annoying even then). Finally, when you *do* find a track to listen to, the first few seconds are subject to an audible hiss while the iPod accesses it's hard drive (I.E. Whenever the iPod switches between tracks) which subsides to a substantially less audible hiss for the balance of your iPod listening experience. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 1 out of 5 BEWARE!!!!!!!! Written By Anonymous, Osage Beach, Mo on Saturday, December 31, 2005 This adapter is very misleading. The description says "Use the buttons on your stereo to control all of the major iPod functions - like track up/down, volume, and fast forward/rewind". Well that would lead you to think that you can get the song title and artist to show on your head unit, because that is the is a very basic function of the iPod. Well this is not the case, you can only get the song title and artist name if you purchase a Blaupunkt head unit that is a MP74 or above. Right now there is only two head units that qualify, The Los Angeles and the Seattle, Crutchfield doesn't even sell these head units. The adapter will work on some head units below these but they will only display numeric information, such as track 1 or CD 1. I was very angry to find this information out only after I purchased a head unit and the adapter from Crutchfield. This adapter is a waste. 5 out of 5 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 1 out of 5 Don't bother Written By Doug, Rockford, IL on Friday, December 02, 2005 I recently tried the Blaupunkt iPod interface but returned it because the usability was terrible.Even the poorly translated manual doesn't say how it actually works; only that you can select from nine playlists. After trying it, you find out that it shows the first nine playlists alphabetically. There's no way to get to the iPod's podcast directory unless you create a smart playlist to include all podcast items and name it to sort high in the alphabet. But then all the podcast tracks mixed together instead of sub-categorized by podcast. The display on the head unit did not show any track information other than a number, ie., T01, T02, etc. (It is possible that a higher end head unit would show more information, but the manual doesn't say for sure.)Track information is updated on the iPod screen, but it is incredibly slow. It took least a couple seconds to update after the track was changed. This might work for you if your listening style is to put a bunch of tracks in a playlist, start it playing, and let it run. But I tend to be much more interactive with my tracks. It was all just an exercise in frustration for me. 23 out of 26 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? I don't understand the 9 playlist restriction, whats the purpose of having your music library if you can't access it. 3 out of 3 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No
1 out of 5 BEWARE!!!!!!!! Yes | No
1 out of 5 Don't bother Written By Doug, Rockford, IL on Friday, December 02, 2005 I recently tried the Blaupunkt iPod interface but returned it because the usability was terrible.Even the poorly translated manual doesn't say how it actually works; only that you can select from nine playlists. Yes | No
