More science than magic

Nothing up the sleeve here! Blaupunkt's Blue Magic CX 130 component speakers offer high-end construction and materials at an affordable price. A rigid injected polypropylene (IPP) woofer works with its rubber surround to deliver extended excursion for stronger mids and lows. You can install each adjustable 1" PEI tweeter up closer to your listening position, so you get the full effect of the vibrant highs in your music. With a little work, these components will give you a big jump in sound quality over your tired factory speakers.

The CX 130's design includes more ventilation to draw heat away from the voice coil on the woofer, so it'll handle handle higher power from an amp while still being efficient enough to work with a car stereo. The in-line crossovers ensure smooth imaging, so you enjoy the full depth of your music. You can flush- or surface-mount the tweeters, so you can create the best possible soundstage while keeping the installation neat.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Product Highlights:

  • component speaker system includes 2 woofers, 2 tweeters, and 2 woofer grilles
  • 5-1/4" injected polypropylene woofer with rubber surround
  • 1" PEI dome tweeter
  • black steel basket
  • ventilated voice coil for heat dissipation
  • power range: 2-53 watts RMS (240 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 50-22,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 91 dB
  • 3-ohm impedance works with a factory radio, an aftermarket car stereo, or an amplifier
  • woofer top-mount depth: 2-1/4"
  • metal grilles included
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Props to criticisms for the fit the for my 1990 bmw, and they got it to me very fast with free shipping. Nice sound quality was expecting them to hit mids and lows a little better but still good speakers for the money

Pros: Heavy duty casing and cone

Cons: Tweeters don't do much

Disappointed

Written by: Tj from Florida on October 14, 2015

Not very good performance for a brand name speaker I've used in the past. Speakers sounded bad even compared to the stock system in my 13 JK. Turned bass all the way down just to get audible sound from the stock head unit.

Pros: Nice tweeters

Cons: Mids very dissatisfied

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Mid range speakers sound better than factory, but limited bass. Tweeters with inline crossovers sound good. Overall nice upgrade from factory door speakers. Used the surface mount tweeter pods because there wasn't a good location for flush mount, looks very clean.

Pros: Simple install with Crutchfield kits. Definite upgrade over factory speakers in work van.

Cons: Bass is a little weak, but what do you want for such a small speaker!!

Good value replacement in a 1999 Mazda Miata

Written by: Marius from California on June 7, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

INSTALLATION After upgrading my Miata's head unit, I wanted to replace the factory speakers which were now in danger of getting blown out. My Miata came with the base level 5x7 speakers and nothing mounted in the spot in the door where the tweeters go. It was pretty straightforward installing these along with the 5x7 adapter. The crossovers come with very long wires, I ended up cutting them fairly short and using zip ties to stop the rest from rattling around in the door. If you take the tweeters out of the supplied housing, you can put them in the recess in the door and then hold them in with a metal strip (I used plumber's tape) which you can screw on if you find some tiny screws. I used some double-sided sticky foam to mount the crossover box so that it would stay in place.

SOUND QUALITY The factory speakers had marginally better bass response than these. The CX130's treble is way too high (probably in part because the tweeters are nearer to me than the woofers); I wish I could adjust the crossover and turn them down, but instead I compensated on the head unit. After doing this they still have a very nice clear high end. The mid range is a little poor, but I've yet to hear any speakers in this price range that have a decent mid range. On the bass response issue, turning it up on the head unit does nothing, because the speakers are simply too small.

Overall I'm happy with these, but kind of wish I'd bought the CX160 to possibly improve the bass situation.

Pros: Installation was very easy Good sound quality overall

Cons: Tweeters too loud, have to compensate in head unit Bass response no better than the factory speakers

The speakers fit into the doors and the door panels very nicely. Sound really good too.

Pros: Inexpensive as compared to other brands.

Cons: The mounting brackets that came with it had to be severely trimmed in order to fit in the door panels of my 1994 Firebird Trans-Am.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this component system in the front doors of my 2003 Ford Sport Trac. Used adapter bracket to fit in 5x7 opening. I haven't been able to install my Kenwood head unit yet. But even the OEM unit makes these speakers shine. Can't wait to see what the Excelon does!

Pros: Solid construction; Uncomplicated installation; Great sound quality...

Cons: Tweeters a bit sharp. But as another review stated, adjusting the position works wonders!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these on my 18 year old Volvo 850 Turbo, Platinum Edition Wagon. The car came with an excellent stereo from the factory, as car stereos go. It has a 40 watt per channel head unit that is relatively clean even now. But the speakers were getting tired and the tweeters on the coaxial rear doors were broken, so it was time for some new speakers. These went into my front doors near perfect fit with a set of Infinity Primus PR6500cs in my rear doors. I mounted the tweeters on the mirror cap located on the A pillar. They sound nice in the midrange and have some bass more than my original speakers, I get my bass from the larger 6 ½ Infinities in the rear. The laws of physics apply here there is only so much air a 5 ¼ cone can move but what they move they move well , they are detailed , and are a sensitive speaker so my 18 year old head unit still sounds great. Their sensitivity is appreciated in a car of that volume, it is a lot of space to fill and they do it well. The highs from the tweeters are sharp I had to play with their aiming to soften the highs. Overall a nice speaker, it can play loud and clean.

Pros: Good mids, good sensitivity, nice vocals, well made, good hardware.

Cons: As much bass as a 5 1/4 cn deliver, tweeters can be a bit sharp, their direction can be adjusted so some of this can be cleaned up.

Used these as a replacement on my 2009 MINI cooper. I could not get the mounting kit to line up with the holes. In the end I just used self tapping screws to go directly int the interior door plastic.

Sound quality is much better than the OEM units they replaced.

Pros: Good sound They fit in the hole

Cons: Mounting kit.

Customer Q&A

2 questions already asked

The sound is mostly mid and high range. I have these speaker up front and larger (more bass) speakers in the rear. [ ED  Jun 05, 2014 ]
Deep enough for the price, I guess. Great sounding mids and hi's and the overall quality is on point [ DAVID  Jun 04, 2014 ]
Has a nice deep bass but not over powering of a bass. I listen to jazz and blues and the quality of the sound coming from these speakers are awesome.. [ ORLANDO  Jun 02, 2014 ]
They are a good mid range speaker. Quality is good and speakers sound good. A lot clearer than my old factory speakers. [ Jerred  Jun 02, 2014 ]
These speakers provide plenty of base and midrange. I have a kicker with a 75 watt amp that I can barely hear over the cx130s but I may have installed it wrong. [ Benjamin  Jun 02, 2014 ]
Hi Jelani...unfortunately the speakers didn't get a fair trial with me. I bought a new Alpine radio for my RV and found that a channel was bad in the old one. What I thought was a speaker issue was not, so I kept the original Blaupunkpt speakers I have. That said the speaker is beautiful and when plugged in had a good sound, comes with a separate tweeter also. It was never mounted in place so I couldn't compare. There was plenty of Bass while standing alone. You'd really have to try them. Crutchfield is excellent about returning items. [ CHARLES  Jun 01, 2014 ]
Hi Elena,, I installed the speakers into my BMW and one of the speakers on the right side had blown out. Now i have to pull out the door again and replace it. I have not looked at the warranty yet. So far I am very disappointed. Eddie Ballut [ Eddie  Jun 01, 2014 ]
Good bass response but not deep bass, overall quality is excellent! [ Jason  Jun 01, 2014 ]
I use these speakers and they do not have "deep bass". However, they have a better low range frequency than others I have had in the same application. You will not be disappointed in the low end sound that comes from this speaker. Everyone's opinion differs when it comes to what they like. I prefer a deeper rich sounding bass. I purchased a powered 8 inch subwoofer. I have these speaker in the rear door a of a Chevy Silverado [ MARK  Jun 01, 2014 ]
Are these midbass speakers? I want to install them in the front doors of my '97 BMW 5 series to replace blown midbass speakers. Also are the crossovers necessary? [ Austin  Apr 21, 2014 ]
This will depend largely on your vehicle. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation. [ Krissy  Jan 26, 2014 ]  Staff
