Sleek functionality

Need a break from all that bridge traffic? Blaupunkt's New Jersey 220 BT CD receiver offers multiple entertainment options, including a USB port for your digital music files, an old-school CD player, and Bluetooth® audio streaming. Blaupunkt wraps all that up into a double-DIN (4" tall) radio with subtle styling that looks great in your dash.

Built-in Bluetooth

You can answer a call from a Bluetooth-enabled phone with the push of a button, and your end of the conversation is picked up by the microphone that's built into faceplate. The New Jersey 220 supports Bluetooth audio streaming too, so you can stream music wirelessly from compatible devices to the receiver, plus control basic functions like track up or down.

Your choice of music

In addition to audio streaming, the New Jersey 220 also offers crystal-clear CD playback, a sensitive AM/FM tuner for radio broadcasts, a convenient front aux input for your portable audio player, and a USB port for iPod, iPhone® or a thumb drive full of MP3 or WMA music.

This Blaupunkt helps you get the most out of your music with a beefy built-in amp that'll make your speakers sound more dynamic. You can tailor the sound to your preferences with the 3-band parametric equalizer, and you'll find the two sets of preamp outputs handy for adding an amp or powered subwoofer.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

I conducted this experiment. My phone was connected to the stereo via bluetooth and I was listening to music through the USB port. A call came in to my phone. I only had to push the call answer button (#6) on the stereo to switch to the phone call. When I pushed the call hang-up button (#5) the stereo switched back to the USB input. I did not have to manually cycle through the various inputs to get to the phone call.

If your on a specific input (aux, USB, streaming music via Bluetooth) and you receive a phone call through the radio, the unit will return to the input you had originally. I've had the 220 BT for about 2 years and it works great. I'm really happy with the radio unit upgrade to my vehicle.
    joshua  Mar 18, 2017
    A
No. You can answer or set the system to answer automatically. It will just mute everything but the phone.
    mell  Mar 18, 2017

Hi Jenifer, i have not used the aux. or usb as of now. I presume it would let the call in and does tell you on the sreen there is an incoming call. It's a great radio and the phone feature works good
    chris  Mar 18, 2017
    A
I can't remember for sure (I no longer have the stereo) but I believe that sux/Bluetooth/USB are just 3 different ways for your phone to connect to the unit. When you receive a call, it will come through the stereo with whatever way it is currently connected. I always used Bluetooth because it automatically connected and had great sound quality. If I needed Rtl charge my phone I just plugged it into the Ac port. Hope this helps a little.
    robert  Mar 18, 2017

When I am using the USB input for my iPod and my cell is connected via bluetooth, an incoming call will pause the iPod and connect without changing the settings. You do have to press the answer button on the Blaupunkt unit. (#6). I am so pleased with this unit that I have it in two of my vehicles.
    todd l  Mar 18, 2017

It will automatically answer the call, shouldn't have to do anything and when you complete the call it should return to where you were.

Does it display song titles when listening to the radio?
    tim  Feb 11, 2017
    5 answers
    A
YES IT DOES. This function is called AM/FM RDS (Radio Data System). Clearly detailed in the Instruction Manual. BUT, it is dependent on the radio broadcaster transmitting this info. Here in LA, nearly all the FM stations broadcast this RDS info. It will detail song and artist, but I found it distracting, so I have it off. It Definitely has this option.

I've read in a few comments that the radio must be turned off manually (it doesn't shut off when you turn the car ignition off). Is that correct, and is there a way to wire it so that it shuts off with the ignition, without losing presets/bluetooth pairing/etc.?

When I hooked mine up in my Saturn the radio has an auto delayed off it turns off when you open the door just like the factory radio
    michael  Dec 14, 2016

mine New Jersey always went on and off with the ignition without losing any presets or settings just like every other car stereo I have had. I passed the radio on to a friend when I got a new car and it works the same way in his car now. The radio looked great and sounded great and was pretty simple to install. The only downside was that even at its dimmest setting, I found the lights on the display to be too bright for me and could be a little distracting, especially when compared to the other dashboard lights on my older 2001!honda accord.
    robert  Dec 13, 2016

If wired with included connections that will come with unit, the unit will shut off along with vehicle.

In order to make the radio turn off when I turn off my car, I had to connect up the navigation part of the harness, even though my car doesn't have a navigation system. The help desk guy walked me through it over the phone. It was easy. After I connected everything correctly through/to the harness, it worked fine.

What color is the backlighting for the buttons? Is the backlighting changeable?
    youk1  Jun 01, 2016

    A
Light blue/blueish white, and no it's not changeable. I've never really paid much attention to the color, I put this unit in my work truck and for the most part it's daylight when I'm in the truck driving. For a basic double din size radio with more options then most stock radios it's a great buy, if your looking for a unit with all the best new features then this isn't for you.

Button backlighting is white. There is a blue backlight around the dual in the center. It is not changeable as far as I can tell.

No, the backlighting is not changeable. It is a clear white coloring with perhaps a blue tint, but not obviously blue. Since this is a receiver without a lot of "screen", it really doesn't seem to clash with the other instruments in my vehicle. Hope this helps!

Is the color of Blaupunkt New Jersey 220 black or charcoal? I read that the San Antonio model is charcoal and want the New Jersey to match my interior. Thank you.

Hmmm...that's weird. Mines black. I don't know what you mean by San Antonio model though. I live in California. I had problems with my Bluetooth connectivity and they replaced the first one. Both were black.
    christine  May 24, 2016
    A
The New Jersey 220 is black, but a flat black. If you are trying to match a glossy interior its not going to. My del Sol has a crumpled semi-black finish and the NJ220 doesn't match exactly, but it matches well enough. I had to custom build a surround for the unit as the del Sol isn't really supposed to have 2-din device installed, and that makes it look more factory. I hope this helps.

Can the display be set to display the clock as the default display? I.e. can it be set up to show the clock all the time?
    steve  Feb 15, 2016
    6 answers
    A
SORT OF: the normal default is that it always defaults to the "Info" of whatever source you are on. Then if you hit the "Display" button, it will show the clock for a few seconds, then go back to the Info display. BUT, Sometimes. When you are on Info display, then hit the "Display" button to toggle to Clock, then hit "Display" button to toggle back to Info, then hit "Display" button one more time back to toggle back to Clock, it will stick! SO, if you hit "Display" button quickly to toggle 3 times (Info > Clock > Info > Clock), it will stick! It sticks, that is, until you do something else, like raise Volume, change Source, etc. Discovered this accidentally. [Ridiculous!].
    xl13!  Jun 16, 2016

No. The clock disappears to show source or other play info. This is a strange shortcoming, but most vehicles have a separate clock so it's not a deal breaker for most situations.

The only thing I found was the display button changes to what you want to see. I.e. Time, etc. this is a replacement for me because Bluetooth never worked in the first one. Both units NEVER kept accurate time. It was always off by 10-15 minutes.

I agree that it is probably malfunctioning. The NJ220 suffers from a too-small amplifier. By adding a Blaupunkt amp I cleaned up a lot of audio issues, mostly a very tiny sound over Bluetooth. Now it has a very rich bass and better full range. I'd recommend exchanging it and adding the amp.

My first head unit, wouldn't connect to Bluetooth ever. So they exchanged them for me,the second unit has worked correctly and I hear no interference. Probably a bad unit. Quite often, my radio will reset the clock to an incorrect time if I have it set to auto-correct and have RDS switched on. I have come to the point that I just turn the RDS off and manually set the clock.

Most of the screens on aftermarket receivers are horrible in the daytime -- forget about direct sun. They are totally washed out and impossible to see. How does this unit perform during the day? Can you see the screen or does it get completely washed out?

All I use for listening on this unit is the flash drive. When restarting the vehicle or the radio (it also has a pause function) starts at the point in which you left it. I love the sound of my music on the flash drive. I will suggest though, buy one of those very small flash drives (San Disk 16 GB) so it won't protrude much out of the unit; it will look like an extra button or light on your stereo.

Yes, the head unit does pick up where left off. I compared a flash drive album to the CD and could hear no difference. But depends on the quality of the ripper software and settings used.

The head unit does pick up where you left off with Cds and Bluetooth devices. There unit does a fair job of picking up from the USB, but often starts a new song after turning the car back on.

Yes, it picks up, at least in respects I'm aware of. I think I tried the USB drive only once and it worked. An earlier question was whether white button markings were painted or backlit. They're backlit. Very nice radio.
    christopher  Jan 13, 2015
    A
Yes. It stays in whatever mode you were in prior to shutting down. CDs and the tuner crank right back up. If you are listening to a device via Bluetooth, the unit will be in Bluetooth mode (as long as your device is present) but you may have to push play on your phone depending on how you've used it since the last time you were in your vehicle. I haven't used the USB to play music yet.
    richard  Jan 12, 2015
    A
The keys and the CD slot do light up with a high and low setting through the menu. A flash drive sounds as good as a CD, but depends on the ripper software. Spotify streaming by bluetooth from a smart phone sounds great! But keep the phone plugged into a charger, streaming really drains a battery.

There is a lock screw for the CD player that keeps the laser from getting knocked off track during shipping. It must be removed in order to play a CD. Check the instructions for the location of this set screw and remove it. If you have already removed it, then the unit is likely damaged. I'm betting the guys at Crutchfield will provide a hassle-free exchange. Their customer service is outstanding.

Hi Rob, I have installed the Blaupunkt New Jersey 220 in a 2002 Toyota Tundra with the original speakers. I was worried about the ambient noise also. I have called/spoken with multiple people on the phone and then asked them how the sound was and they said it was very clear. A couple of these people had hearing aids also and they could hear clearly. I really like this stereo. Joseph R

No. The bluetooth connection in my Blaupunkt works well. I can use my normal voice. Also, it is clearer than the factory setup in my wife's 2013 Honda CRV.

Blue tooth hands free is worthless. Use a Bluetooth headset instead

If your phone has bluetooth, it should work fine.

Hey Mark. I purchased one of these about a week ago. It works very well with my samsung galaxy 5s both for streaming audio and for phone calls. No complaints here. Hope this helps.

After installing this unit, I find that the clock resets every time the vehicle is turned off. Is anyone else having this issue?

This should not be the case. Check your wiring. If that's okay I suggest exchanging the unit.

I had this problem, along with it not connecting to Bluetooth. They exchanged the unit and the second one works fine.

This should happen only when disconnecting the battery. To avoid this problem you must connect the wire that comes for this specific purpose. You must read the installation instructions, and pay special attention to the section referring to the cross connections with the adapter harness.

I have this problem too. It also resets my clock sometimes when I switch RDS on and off.

There is a red or yellow wire that is attached to the constant + (red 12 v) of your vehicle. If this is not connected your stereo will not store any memory as if your battery was disconnected.
