Sleek functionality

Need a break from all that bridge traffic? Blaupunkt's New Jersey 220 CD receiver offers multiple entertainment options, including a USB port for your digital music files, an old-school CD player, and Bluetooth® audio streaming. Blaupunkt wraps all that up into a double-DIN (4" tall) radio with subtle styling that looks great in your dash.

Built-in Bluetooth

You can answer a call from a Bluetooth-enabled phone with the push of a button, and your end of the conversation is picked up by the microphone that's built into faceplate. The New Jersey 220 supports Bluetooth audio streaming too, so you can stream music wirelessly from compatible devices to the receiver, plus control basic functions like track up or down.

Your choice of music

In addition to audio streaming, the New Jersey 220 also offers crystal-clear CD playback, a sensitive AM/FM tuner for radio broadcasts, a convenient front aux input for your portable audio player, and a USB port for iPod, iPhone® or a thumb drive full of MP3 or WMA music.

This Blaupunkt helps you get the most out of your music with a beefy built-in amp that'll make your speakers sound more dynamic. You can tailor the sound to your preferences with the 3-band parametric equalizer, and you'll find the two sets of preamp outputs handy for adding an amp or powered subwoofer.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

I like the receiver, as it does what it was advertised as doing, and reasonably matches the interior dash look of my '04 Dodge Ram. Controls are reasonably easy to operate with minimal multi-functions that need to be remembered.

    Pros:

Cons: Blaupunkt could add a couple of features that would enhance the user's experience. 1) For the BT phone calling; add a calling "favorites" to the 3 phone # folders, received, called and missed. The phone book #s are virtually useless for anyone who has more than just a few contacts in their phone, with each person having multiple #s (home, work, etc.). And/or add a 25 # speed dial feature. 2) Add the ability to keep the phone on in a standby mode with the Clock display being the default

Basic AM/FM/CD player with external input options.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was a relatively easy radio to install in place of the factory Lexus IS300 radio and it's appearance is quite good. This radio offers updated inputs to use an iPad, MP3 player and/or other peripheral accessory. there is a front panel USB port and the rear has low-level RCA outputs to add on any additional amplifiers.

Pros: Straight forward access to all adjustments and options. Covers most bases while offering very good sound. Quick installation and hook -up. Easy to use.

Cons: Adjustable front panel illumination options would have been nice in place of the blue illumination. Unit will turn on without having a signal from ignition, but without sound. Strange?

I've been driving for almost 33 years, and have had decent stereos in my cars all that time. I am not a hardcore audiophile, but I want my tunes to sound good. I also dislike flashing lights and spinning animations on my stereos. This unit has none of that nonsense, which suits me just fine.

I like the fact that the display is simple and uncluttered. I don't watch the stereo when I drive, all I want to see is what station I'm on.

The sound is fantastic! Like I said, it may be my favorite car stereo ever. Yes, I know I can get "better" stereos for a lot more money, but this radio gives me everything I want at a very good price. I know some people dislike that the clock does not display all the time, but since my car already has a stand-alone clock, I never even bothered to set this one, so it's not an issue for me. I also like that the controls, like the display, are simple and uncluttered as well.

This unit pairs easily with my bluetooth phone. No problems there. Plays my CDs and flash drives. No problems there. And, it looks better than the OEM unit it replaced.

Now, I know some people have mentioned fit issues in various cars, but just be aware, that totally depends on the car you're putting this in. In my car, it fit perfectly with zero issues and looks like it's always been there. Crutchfield's installation instructions were excellent.

Pros: Looks great. Sounds great. Simple, uncluttered interface is a plus for me. Easy bluetooth operation. Perfect double-din fit in my car.

Cons: If I had to be nit-picky, the various menus take a little getting used to, but honestly, they are no more difficult than the last three or four stereos I've had.

Replaced the factory unit in my 2002 Toyota Solara Convertible. I chose this unit mostly because it had a simple design that looked more "factory" than anything else I could find. The installation went pretty smoothly---with only one call to tech support. The unit is fairly easy to operate and has reasonable functionality. My power antennae works with the unit, but it goes up even when playing a cd. Decent value overall. The tech support was very good.

Pros: Good, clean look---and good functionality.

Cons: Wish the power antennae would go up only when playing radio

This is a feature packed double-DIN radio with excellent sound quality at an economical price.

Pros: It even comes with a small remote control. With the Crutchfield supplied faceplate adapter, this is a great looking radio that totally changed the appearance of my car in a positive way. Very impressed with the final results.

Cons: I wish the great instructions from Crutchfield would have mentioned removing the shipping screws. Yes, it is written on a red sticker on top of the chassis, but because I was following the Crutchfield instructions step-by-step I did not catch this until after installing the radio.

Overall a great product for the money. We purchased it partly because it looks like a "stock" OEM unit and blends perfectly with the dashboard. Variable LED colors would have been nice but the white lighting looks clean and keeps with the design's simple theme. Sounds quality is excellent. With the stock speakers the sound difference was amazing. With the kicker components up front and the co-axials upgraded in the back, it blew us away.

Not a lot of features but it's a solid, quality design, good power for an in dash unit, and good value.

Pros: Power. Looks/Design. Value. RCA outputs for future sub-woofer addition. Bluetooth works great! Extremely easy to pair the phones. You can pair up to 6. Streaming audio works very well. Phone calls sound clear in the car and the from the other end, you can't tell the people in the car are on an open Bluetooth connection. It's VERY clear.

Cons: Main features are easy to access / answer & reject calls quickly but many controls are not intuitive. You have to learn to hold a button for a few seconds to get into some menus and access some features. Fortunately it's for functions you wouldn't use regularly mostly set and forget things. Disappointed that there is no voice recognition even for phone calls. Dialing using the rotary knob is cumbersome. Best off initiating the call on the phone -not ideal but voice control can be used.

The main reason I bought this was for the integrated bluetooth and I liked the uncluttered design. Unfortunately, there's no way to access my phones voice recognition with the bluetooth, meaning no voice dialing. The phonebook menu is a joke and even more so is dialing a number from the display. Callers say they can hear me ok but somewhat weak, much better if I lean in toward the stereo. The plus of not having to wire an external mic is also a negative because external's can be positioned better. Also, when a call comes in the ringer is ridiculously loud and out of sync with the volume of whatever you're listening too. Fortunately my phone rings twice before the stereo does, maybe that's a Blaupunkt designed in "feature". Also, there's a fair amount of hiss from the amp, though road noise covers it up when you're driving. On the plus side, the radio sounds decent, but then again, so did my old one. Back to using the Motorola bluetooth speakerphone clipped to my visor...

    Pros: Sorta works, looks good

Cons: No bluetooth voice recognition, weak mic, amp too much hiss

Overall I am a bit disappointed in the Blaupunkt NJ220. The sound and build quality is high, but the functionality and features compared to today's tech is weak. The only reason for buying this receiver is the fact the bluetooth used a built-in microphone. My wife put her foot down on any weird wires hanging out of the receiver, so we went with this unit. Other manufacturers should follow suit and integrate the microphone into the head-unit.

Pros: Sound quality and build quality is good. Built-in Bluetooth microphone. Phone call quality is good (not great) Bluetooth works well...

Cons: CD player is wonky. Takes forever to load up mp3 disc. I basically gave up using mp3 disc. Even playing a regular CD is difficult. It's like the last 20 years escaped CD development at Blaupunkt. The back button doesn't restart a track. The delay is terrible. No Android usb connection functionality. Haven't tried iPhone... Display doesn't show current song when bluetooth is connected. Other receivers have already added this years ago. Looks very basic...

I chose this receiver because it does not have a lot of colored lights. It is simple and clean, yet has all the tech I need, beyond the cheap stock model. Two observations, after using it for a month - the USB port does not allow charging, and the display cannot be set to show the time as a default. In a Jeep installation, there were several hard modifications I needed to do, which were not detailed in the Crutchfield instructions. The stock metal bracket inside the dash had to be removed. There is not a lot of room to do this. I did not want to use a power tool, for fear of sawing the dash. It took about an hour to finesse the bracket out with a hack saw and pliers. In addition to the metal bracket, a sharp knife is needed to trim off some plastic flanges that are not visible on the front of the dash. There are a few on the top of the dash enclosure and on the front, where the receiver is visible. None of this is documented. I also received a plastic in my installation kit that confused me, because it is not needed for my install. I struggled with it for 30 minutes, until I experimented, and took it off. Again, not documented. My kit came with bare wires that needed to be soldered or crimped together. Not documented. There is an accessory cable and module that allows the radio to understand when to turn off. Without it, the radio will stay on, even when the ignition is off. I had to call Crutchfield to figure this out. Again - no documentation.

Pros: Great sound. Good power. Simple design. Good EQ options. Lots of inputs and outputs for future proofing.

Cons: Must push DISPLAY to show the clock, then it switches back to FM frequency. USB does not support charging.

2009 Toyota Camry. Instructions were pretty comprehensive. Taking the factory battery out and replacing with the New Jersey took a couple of hours. Have a soldering iron handy to make the 12 connections to make them secure. Radio, Bluetooth and CD works very well. Cranked up the sound quality even using the existing factory speakers. Some people have complained about the clock being the default display. For this car, the clock is displayed elsewhere, so wasn't an issue. The blue color does match with the Camry's background color at night. Should have changed the radio couple of years ago.

Pros: Superior sound. Bluetooth works pretty well. Very clean easy to use controls.

Cons: The FM antenna connection was flaky. When I inserted it all the way, the reception was poor. Had to pull it half way up, and leave it there. Unclear why I had to do it.

I chose this unit because of the feature set and the understated design of the interface. (i.e., no orange or red slashes of color on the head unit..) I replaced the old and worn out head unit and CD player in a 99 Subaru Forester. Did the install with my son one afternoon and had to call tech support twice during the install process and the team at Crutchfield were very helpful each time. The Blaupunkt unit sounds great, works well for hands free calling and music playback via bluetooth. All the documentation for the wireharness was clear and the process was straightforward. Found a video on youtube someone posted showing how to do the entire install in our exact model year Forester which was also helpful.

Pros: great sound, low cost. Simple uncluttered design

Cons: Would be nice if you could make the clock display

I purchased because of the simple layout and easy of use

Pros: This was a replacement of the original radio in SUV, so I did not want a flashy radio. it has a simple layout and is easy to use. It has intuitive operation and setup. The screen is easy to read. The radio reception is good, certainly better than the original manufacture's radio.

Cons: The buttons do not have a lot of movement and don't have a professional feel. You can't change the blue light for the knob. The audio controls are course, so in my case the bass is either a little too loud or a little too soft. The subwoofer does not have its own volume control. An audio CD is slow to load, perhaps because it is reading what type of CD it is. It also inserts a short mute between CD tracks which you can notice if the songs blend together.

I read all the reviews and considered several different stereos prior to purchasing this one. One aspect that I didn't find information on is the quality of the microphone for bluetooth telephone conversations. I have found it to be excellent and my hands free conversations are very easy, including the buttons to answer and end calls. The NJ220 works great with my iPod with wired connection and with my iPhone 6. It pairs automatically once it is set up initially and recognizes my iPod when it is plugged in.

The Blaupunkt New Jersey 220 looks great in my 2006 Audi A4 Avant. I bought it so I can have the factory look and hopefully to replace the non-Bose system. I took it to a local audi store to have this unit "Professionally" installed.

This is where this unit falls short, the sound is just marginally better. Still lacking tight bass and the high is too bright. The speakers on the rear doors are now not working, The Sub in the back is okay. No one wants to take responsibility so far. And since the bracket is Metra, that means I can't check it out without removing the whole dash. I don't understand whether if this is the only bracket available or not. But Crutchfield should really figure out this issue, so that the customer can easily remove the unit for maintenance or repair. The local shop blames the PAC harness is probably not good for the sound problem.

I should have figure out a way to remove the factory head unit, (For some reason I could not remove the factory unit) and hook up the NY220 myself. Oh well, I guess I will be looking for a set of speakers next to see if I could get some improvement in the sound.

Pros: Reasonable price, Factory look, Quality.

Cons: Sound improvement marginal over factory unit.

I wanted a double din radio but have never liked all the flashy lights and million different settings that most radios have. This one has all the sound settings needed to customize the sound, looks good, has a factory look so it doesn't draw any attention and is very user friendly. Most of the reviews list the radio not returning to the clock by default as an annoyance and I agree, but it is a simple press of a button. I also wish it would dim automatically as well as have more settings for dim since I like my dash lights in a low setting. But it's a minor thing.

Pros: Clean look Great clean sound Factory look Phone comes thru clear Bright blue/white controls at night User setting of EQ has every option needed to customize.

Cons: Clock return No auto dim Tuner setup is a little confusing by including European and asian settings.

Installed in my '99 F-150, which is not a double-din vehicle, but can be with some creative dremel work. The head unit sounds great, all of the features work well. Menu navigation is typical German: everything is nested in different menus and not overly intuitive. Love the look of the unit and the large volume knob. A very solid performer all around. Major cons: No way to make the clock the default setting (as others have mentioned) and the system does not dim automatically when you use your car's dimmer.

Pros: Great looks Amazing sound Everything works well

Cons: Clock does not display as a default setting Brightness does not dim when you dim your car (you can dim the brightness manually within the head unit)

I absolutely love the look and feel of this unit. My 2001 IS300 had an aftermarket stereo from a previous owner that was covered in gaudy lights and cheap buttons, which didn't really match the interior. This is much more discreet, and is a cost-effective alternative for people that don't need features like GPS/navigation or satellite radio. I primarily use this for streaming audio from my Android smartphone, and couldn't justify the extra expense of a full Android Auto capable unit.

Pros: Stock/OEM style that won't draw attention away from the road. Buttons have a solid clicky feel, and the overall enclosure feels sturdy. Play/pause/skip functions for Bluetooth audio are built into the volume knob and the forward/back buttons. Great sound quality on mids/highs, at least compared to my old unit.

Cons: White and blue LEDs might not match the interior on older cars. No color changing options. Bluetooth audio quality is hit or miss, with some distortion likely due to the compression. Some smartphones are better than others in this regard, so your mileage may vary. No apt-X. I recommend using the AUX port instead if sound quality is your primary concern.

The serious flaw occurs in the operation of the USB input. It is not possible to browse the folders contained on the USB drive. In order to switch folders, you must press DISPLAY repeatedly until the FOLDER symbol is displayed and then hit the right or left arrow to skip to the next folder (pg. 28 of user manual). The problem is that after advancing to the next folder, the folder name does not display. The next title that you will see is the first track of the next folder; you will not know in which folder you have landed unless you know in advance what your library looks like. This continues through every folder change. You cannot scroll through your folder names. Therefore, you may need to keep a paper cheat sheet listing the contents of your USB drives. Even then it is a semi-guessing game trying to figure out where you are in your library.

The next negative is the clock display. Other reviews on this site mentioned this but, I had no idea just how inconvenient this is. ANY change that you make, you must hit the DISPLAY button to get the clock back. If you change inputs, you lose the clock display. Skip a CD track, change a radio station, adjust the volume, lose the clock.

Sound quality is quite good in CD or USB mode. FM radio is good given the limitations of over the air broadcast. I haven't had this long enough to comment on radio reception while driving.

Hands free call quality is good on both ends. Scrolling through phone contacts is tedious and slow

Pros: Pairs well with Focal Integration ISC 570 speakers given the Focals' high sensitivity spec and modest power requirements.

Cons: - Cannot browse USB folders. - Constant manual clock display reset.

The NJ 220 is a a great product! It's the only aftermarket radio that has the look of a stock radio. The install was super easy and the quality is fantastic. I love being able to use Bluetooth for hands free calling on my iPhone. The USB works great for playing music with Spotify. I like the amount of control offered. Essentially the cons that I list below are just mild annoyances that could be solved with a better display. Once you figure out how to use this radio you'll love it.

Pros: "Stock radio look", sound quality, Bluetooth and USB hookups work perfectly. Brightness is great in the day.

Cons: Control options aren't intuitive, and in some cases difficult to use (ie: scanning for a new station). You'll definitely want to keep the manual in the glove box. The volume button and display don't change color (always blue), and the clock displays with "CLK" which is annoying. It would be great if the display brightness would automatically dim at night.

This is the simple, sleek, minimalist style that has been missing in aftermarket head units. I won't overly elaborate on the quality of Blaupunkt. It sounds great! The New Jersey has just the right amount of power without needing to push a sub, which I don't use. Frankly, there were other good options for a double-din unit, but the design of the New Jersey 220 made the decision easy for me. Thank you Blaupunkt!

Pros: Almost everything! Clean OEM Appearance. Sound quality. FM reception is excellent, even though I was prepared for it not to be, based on some reviews. Maybe their setting were for "local" instead of "distant".

Cons: No setting to default the display to the clock after temporarily displaying the station, volume, source, etc. Minor, but a huge annoyance. Needs auto nighttime brightness dimmer or at least a "one click" button to toggle between day and night.

I bought the Blaupunkt New Jersey to replace the factory radio in my Town Car. Besides the quality reputation of the brand, the radio had a factory appearance and didn't have all flashing, colored disco lighting that many aftermarket radios have now.

Great value and strongly recommend as a way to disguise an aftermarket stereo.

While I like the way this unit displays just very simple and clean with out all the dancing lights the need to push the display to get the clock back is kind of weak. I would be nice if it just rolled back to Time after a minute or two. The information on the install was also weak along with the mounting screws being wrong. When I contacted tec support about this they said I was right the screws were wrong I told him I did not have this problem with Pioneer the tech guy said the support on that manufacture was better. Over all I can live with it all.

Pros: Easy of use and the simple clean display

Cons: display does not roll back to time and the install instructions weak.

I wanted a radio to replace the original in my 2007 Passat. Plastic on the original bubbled up and flaked off. Chose the Blaupunkt because of its conservative styling, bluetooth and bitstream capabilities. The radio performs well. FM sensitivity improved somewhat (car has antennae in the rear side windows). The only negative I've found is the buttons feel flimsy and the main volume/control wheel could be better dampered. It is difficult to position it accurately.

    Pros: Built in microphone

Purchased the New Jersey as an upgrade for my 2012 Tundra.....Wanted an upgraded system but did not want the cheesey look of an obvious upgraded stereo. The double din size and conservative look of this radio fit my needs and the install was incredibly easy! I had 1 question regarding an extra plug when installing and I called Crutchfield - my question was answered in about 10 seconds - seriously - 10 seconds and I was done. Also customer service was awesome - Reid helped me out when my stereo was delivered without a remote in the box.....in about 5 minutes he had one prepared and it was shipped out the following day....Onto the radio - sounds great and after reading the manual and playing around it's pretty simple to navigate. It's not a tech savvy unit, but it does have plenty of sound adjustments that allowed me to tailor the speakers to sound richer,, fuller and deeper then the factory unit allowed. The Bluetooth is super simple - my wife jumped in the truck today and when she got home commented on how easy it was to sync up her phone. My only negative is that the unit has a volume knob but you have to use buttons to tune - I would prefer a 2nd knob to tune but I did choose this unit for it's conservative looks and it has more than met what I had expected. I did read all the prior reviews before I ordered this unit - any negative comments regarding navigation, clock display or Bluetooth issues are false - read the manual it's all there!

Pros: Sound quality of music, Bluetooth sync and sound quality when talking, factory look of an after market radio

Cons: I think this radio is more than worth what I paid for it - it's better than expected.

I didn't change the speakers but what a difference the Blaupunkt made from the factory radio. I highly recommend this radio.

Pros: Easy to install, and use. Looks great in my Dodge Ram, the install kit from Crutchfield was a breeze to use and makes the radio look like a factory install. The double DIN radio gives it a great look. Can turn off and on with out the key feature, clean lighting, easy mute, front USB plug, works great with Ipod and Iphone..

The NJ220BT is a great value for aesthetics and sound quality. I wanted an upgraded stereo with BT, but also wanted to keep the stock look of the dash intact. Using a standard LCD screen instead of a touch screen display reduces the ease of use that I have become accustomed to with new products, but the price of the unit reflects the lower-cost interface. I bought the Blaupunkt New Jersey as a replacement for my factory radio. I liked the clean look and simple lighting that didn't turn my vehicle into a rolling disco. The instructions provided by Crutchfield were pretty easy to follow. The installation took less than an hour including the removal of my old radio. I spent more time than necessary getting this thing programmed correctly. I think Blaupunkt could make the menu easier to use. One thing that bothers me about this radio is the clock doesn't automatically display. I have to reset the display to show the time after switching radio stations. Kind of trivial, I know, but it is annoying. The sound from this unit is really nice. The radio comes with preset equalizer settings which cover a lot of different styles. I was surprised at how clear the sound is on my factory speakers. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. The controls aren't all that intuitive, but now that I understand the function of each button, I can find my way through the programming menu. I think the only coolness factor associated with this is the name Blaupunkt.

    Pros: Clean, not flashy

    Cons: Confusing programming menu

Ordered this to update the factory double-DIN in my 2005 Santa Fe. Liked the clean styling and had previous experience with Blaupunkt years ago. Looked great in the dash, sounded fine, but... main reasons for swapping radio were to add Bluetooth and a USB drive. Pairing the phone was easy but making calls was a bit cumbersome, particularly searching the phone book (although part of that may be my old phone). Call quality was just OK, limited by the internal mic and the lack of volume & NR adjustments. The major issue I had with the unit was the way it handled files on the USB drive. On my Clarion and Kenwood units the folders come up in alphabetical order and changing between folders is direct. On this unit, the order seems somewhat random and whether you change folders or tracks depends on what is being displayed - if the information is set to scroll you need to time your button push precisely in order to get what you want, watching for the (tiny) indicator light to change. If you try to go back or forward to the folder you were just in - too bad, random jump each time. Definite deal breaker, unfortunate because I really liked the styling, simple and elegant. One other minor point, the RDS data in the display often lags significantly or hangs up on either artist or title. Returned it for a Kenwood DPX-791BH, a little bit more but proper file handling, separate mic with adjustments, and adds an HD tuner and Pandora control. All better? Well, not quite - but that's my next review!

Pros: Great styling, good sound, built in mic

Cons: Poor handling of USB folders, menu selection sometimes cumbersome, RDS info lags

Great price, easy installation, user interface is not the most intuitive, looks good if you like symmetry. Not the coolest head unit on the market but perfect for the clean budget look. I put this in my 13-year old commuter car simply for a head unit replacement that won't break my bank.

Pros: The price is right and won't break your bank. The sound quality is decent for a no-amplifier/upgraded speakers type of system. Went in very easily in about 30 minutes thanks to the wiring harness adapter provided by Crutchfield. Sound is decent but needs to be cranked up in order for fuller sound. Lower volumes sounds flatter (again, this is a no-amplifier setup).

Cons: User interface is not very intuitive.

I purchased the NJ220 to replace my stock stereo that had no bluetooth functions and no auxiliary input. The NJ220 stereo installed fairly easily, but the bluetooth implementation on this stereo is a joke. Pairing the device was simple enough, but from then on, bluetooth function has varied from frustrating to inexplicable. When starting the vehicle and the stereo, most of the time, it will see my iPhone (5s) and register on the display, but it will not resume playing. You need to press the large center button for that. About half the time, this will actually succeed in causing playback to start. The other half, you will need to press play and pause a number of times on the iPhone itself. The iPhone will show it is playing the source through bluetooth, counting down the duration, but nothing from the NJ220. Eventually, you'll get audio from the stereo if you fiddle with it enough. When this connection is made without all the monkeying around, it will play for 10 seconds then go silent for 10 seconds, then resume playing again. It does this every single time. After that, if you don't touch anything, it will continue playing. But it you dare to use the center button on the NJ220 to pause your iPhone, it will certainly pause it, but 90% of the time you cannot simply hit the same button to resume playback. You are back to fiddling with play and pause on the phone itself. The bluetooth on my little $10 speaker is a dream compared to this! Can't recommend this stereo.

Pros: Easy installation, good audio quality, good value, decent power.

    Cons: Worst bluetooth implementation ever.

I wasn't planning to replace the factory unit in my '08 Trailblazer when this all started. I had two speakers that had stopped working so I called Crutchfield to get replacements for all four. The Crutchfield sales rep strongly suggested I get a new aftermarket radio to replace the factory unit promising significantly better sound. Well, I was quite satisfied with the factory unit, but followed his advice anyway. I selected the Blaupunkt New Jersey 220 because of it's conservative appearance. I selected four Kicker CS65 to replace the factory speakers. The end result was quite pleasing. I love the simple, straightforward, intuitive layout of the controls. The unit matches the factory dash nicely without standing out with flashy colorful displays. Finally, the sound puts a smile on my face. It's a serious upgrade from the factory sound! Rather than just background sound when I drive, I now look for music to exercise this new system. I'm very pleased with the outcome! The disappointing part of this experience was the installation. Crutchfield support was great and I used them multiple times, but their installation kits leave a lot to be desired. The speaker mounting kits turned out to be unnecessary. Instructions were pathetic. Installation was more difficult and time consuming that it should have been. I have done many custom installs over the years and I'm not happy with this experience even with the support and installation kits.

Pros: Attractive, conservative appearance. Intuitive controls. Great sound.

Cons: Installation was tedious and time consuming. Install kits don't fit right and require phone calls to figure out what to do. Kit install Instructions were useless.

After taking stereo back out and connecting blue wire and reinstalling stereo picks up stations from a long distance. Very happy with sound and hands free phone calls integrated mic sounds good. I would recommend this to anyone with double din installation.

Pros: great look and great sounds

Cons: installation instructions need to be more complete, menus take awhile to get use to

    Nice upgrade!

I was on the fence about this HU because of the lack of info on the net. i don't like to buy anything these days without intensive research. and i hate buyers remorse.. the few reviews i did find here on Crutchfield seemed all over the place.. you really need to read the reviews and not just look at the star rating. how can you give a bad review on a car stereo because of the clock? which I've learned will stay on if you simply push the Display button a few times Anyway.. i liked this HU mainly because its simple yet elegant looks.. I asked here on Crutchfield some questions i was concerned about and thanks to the speedy replies i was able to make a more informed decision and ordered it.. Ive had it now for a couple weeks and have no regrets. Im loving this thing!! . easy install with the free goodies supplied by Crutchfield. It looks stock in my 1st Gen Tacoma which is just what i wanted. very well built... the dial and buttons are solid.the display is easy to read. the tuner is picking up stations i didn't know existed... and most important, the sound is amazing!! making my stock speakers come to life. good EQ settings and a loudness feature that adds a nice full sound to the music. Ill admit the interface isn't that user friendly but read the manual. figure it out. set it. and enjoy. Sometimes you can't go backwards in the setting so you have get out and then back in to make adjustments. If you're someone who likes to mess with the sound for every song this might prove frustrating.

    Pros: Looks. build quality. sound!!

    Cons: user interface

Overall I am pleased with this stereo. It looks good for my taste, I didn't want something that looks like the computer from a UFO (how 99% of todays stereos look). I like that it doesn't have 200,000 display color options, or unnecessary features. It does the job for someone like me who just wants a simple upgrade. As for negatives, there are a few annoying things. First, the volume knob is overly touchy and will do things you don't want it to when scrolling through the menus. Second, the cd read/recognition time as well as the usb recognition time is quite slow. Third and most annoying to me, the CD shuffle play feature sucks. It consistently shuffles to the same 2 or 3 tracks, sometimes going back to the beginning of the song it just played. You are constantly hitting the next button to try to skip to a new track. I am old fashioned and much of my music is still on CD format so this bothers me. Overall, I am pleased with it. I just wish some other manufacturers would offer "simple" units like this to give consumers a few choices.

Pros: Clean looks, simple and good sound quality

Cons: Touchy volume knob, slow processing, horrible cd shuffle feature

I bought this radio because of it's simplistic look. I installed it in my 2002 Xterra with virtually no problems and it looks great in the dash. The sound is good and it connects to my IPhone via Bluetooth quickly. Hoever, as stated in previous reviews, the display is a joke. The radio does not default to clock and, even though you can dim the display, the lights in the buttons stay bright. This is very distracting when driving on dark roads. Also, when the time is displayed, it displays in big letters AM or PM. I am in a car! I should know wether it is night or day but anyway... This radio would rate 5 stars if they would fix the display problems.

Pros: Ease of installation. Sound Bluetooth

Cons: Not defaulting back to clock. No intensity control of the button lights.

Overall a great radio that is built to look and feel like OEM when installed in the car. However, that does not excuse the glaring issue that the programming for the Head Unit is flawed at the basic level in how the clock behaves. The system defaults the display to the input, not the time. Given that this is a user preference, one would think you could change the preference; however, that is not the case. You can select to display the time; however, any button push (E.G. changing the volume) will then cause the system to display the input again. When on "AUX", it tells you that you are utilizing the AUX input from two locations because it forces back to the input versus the time. When the radio shuts down completely, instead of showing the time, the head unit turns completely off. I originally thought that this was defective; however, after speaking with Blaupunkt they confirmed that this is how the head unit is supposed to work. Potential to be one of the best head units out there; however, critically flawed at the most basic level gives it a would not recommend rating.

Pros: Looks good in the dash. Decent sound quality. Overall simple menu to navigate.

Cons: The clock. Everything about the clock. Fix the clock and there will be none.

I bought this cd player originally because I wanted a double din CD player to replace the factory double din in my truck, and my truck is a basic model so I wanted something that was simple in its look to kind of fit with the rest of the interior. It succeeded on that part, and failed on almost every single other part.

    1. Sound quality was lackluster, and forced speakers to crack at mid-high levels. EQ options are very minimal.

    2. Bluetooth almost always skips for a few minutes before eventually settling it to a working fashion.

    3. Very simple, almost overly so. There is not much here in the way of controls, and yet it was still complicated to do a few simple things.

    4. Compact Disc reading was incredibly slow. Skipping tracks lagged, and moving around through the cd, bluetooth or anything involving your music was sluggish at best. The overall performance of this thing is absolute garbage for nearly $200.00. Build quality also seems not as good as other brands.

Overall I was disappointed with the performance of this cd player, so I sent it back and replaced it with the Pioneer FH-X720BT. I was IMMEDIATELY BLOWN AWAY, by the difference in performance of these two units.

The Pioneers sound quality right out the gate blows the Blaupunkts out of the water. The performance is quick and agile, moving through tracks with ease. The bluetooth connection is 100 times better, and the buttons and menu allow for much more customization.

Overall would highly NOT RECOMMEND this unit.

    Pros: Simple Looks

    Cons: Everything else

I am pleased that I made the decision to pay more than I could have by purchasing some average equipment. This unit makes the stock speakers in my truck sound far better than what I had before. The reason I gave 4 stars on "ease of use" is that it took me awhile to understand the users guide. The unit has so many cool options of use that it takes awhile to understand but then becomes easy. I really am enjoying this player so much that I am going to by another to use in my outdoor bar and then will have use for the remote control that comes with it. I don't have use for that in my truck.

I am very happy with the purchase of this unit. The installation was fairly straight forward and it looks great in my Honda Civic. It took me a little time to learn about the operation and all of it's functions but I am comfortable now. I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking for a reasonable price on a very aesthetically pleasing unit.

    Pros:

Cons: There needs to be more emphasis placed on removing the two transport screws installed at the factory for the CD player. I missed this during the initial installation and had to take the unit back out of the dash just to remove the screws so that my CD player would work.

Very please with unit and features. Replaced second malfunctioned factory unit in Mercury Milan. The sound and control is far superior even with factory speakers. Can now actually hear tweeters and sub-woofers.

Pros: Conservative design looks like it belongs in Milan. Previously had 6 CD player that always jammed. Now have choice of one CD at a time or USB flash drive with lots of albums on long trips. Many sound and receiver function settings and options. Receiver much stronger than OEM. Bluetooth works with my smart phone better than old dedicated speaker phone and automatically connects.

Cons: Numerous menu options take awhile to work through until set up mainly by trial and error. But end result is worth effort.

The unit looks as simple as its operation. It was very easy to pair a cell phone to the Bluetooth receiver and all the functions you need are easy to locate and use. While I do not have a sub woofer in the car, I was still disappointed with the bass response. I listen to classical and modern rock, so its not like I'm pumping up the jams, and still the low end is almost non existent. I imagine with a subwoofer this would deliver, so I'm going to install one in a few weeks and see if it improves the overall balance. And in case anyone thinks it may be my new speakers that are causing the issue, they are also form Blaupunkt and are a part of their Blue series. Blaupunkt receiver with Blaupunkt speakers means a total Blaupunkt experience, and its lacking.

Pros: Easy to use Easy Bluetooth pairing looks sharp

Cons: not a well-rounded sound experience and probably needs a subwoofer setup to bring out the lows.

I really enjoy this head unit. The sound quality is leagues beyond stock quality of the stock DD Monsoon system on the MK4 GTIi. The Bluetooth streaming is easy and rather convenient, I've never had this option before. You will have to refer to the manual for several functions compared to a kenwood or something else more calibrated to US standards. The buttons don't feel cheap and backlighting is smooth, not to bright. I previously had my 10" sub hooked into a line out converter and yet to have hooked it in to the rca cables but I may just do without. The stock speakers have actually come to life! I cant comment on the install difficulty of the HU. It didn't come with the antenna adapter or the keys to remove the Monsoons system, so I had a local audio shop install mine. Do your research, great system!

    Pros: great sound over stock!
