An amplifier can make a huge difference in your car's audio system, but some people just aren't comfortable cutting and splicing wires — especially in a leased vehicle or a company car. Now Blaupunkt offers another option: connect a Plug'N'Play Series amplifier to your factory system with the help of a Plug'N'Play T-harness designed for your specific vehicle.

Blaupunkt's Plug'N'Play Series amplifiers produce big power from ultra-compact housings, so they'll fit into some tight places in your vehicle. These full-range Class D amps use miniaturized power transformers for cool, efficient operation so your speakers will sound fuller, with clearer highs, richer mids and more powerful bass.

The THA275PnP 2-channel amp pushes out 75 watts RMS per channel to your speakers, or can be bridged to drive 190 watts RMS into one sub. This efficient amplifier draws considerably less power than conventional amps, and automatic circuitry eliminates the need for a remote turn-on lead. A direct auxiliary input lets you plug in your MP3 player or navigation device, a big plus if your factory receiver has no aux input.

Important Note: The speaker level input on this amp works with the optional Plug'N'Play T-harness and is not designed for bridging. If you plan to bridge your amp, use the RCA signal input. Radios without preamp outputs will need a line output converter.

My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Great amp, very power efficient. Even at high volume it does not get very hot and power consumption is minimal making installation easy.

the only good thing about this amp is the small size. once you turn it up past about 1/2 volume it starts to shut down sounds like a cd skip.

Excellent Amp, Easy Installation

Written by: Dave from West Sacramento, CA on December 28, 2007

This amp and the Blaupunkt Plug-and-Play installation cables are perfectly suited for those that like their car's stock head unit and want to add clean power, yet aren't looking for an excuse to mess around with wiring for power, ground, turn-on, stereo outputs and speaker inputs. The amp's small form factor provide many options for placement. Crutchfield's installation instructions, particularly for calibrating speaker-level input sensitivity, were very helpful.

Performance in a stock 2005 Toyota system is excellent. Seamless integration, effortless power, no distortion through listenable sound levels and much more linear sound than the stock head unit. Although I don't use an MP3 player, the amp has a jack for direct AUX input and control.

Inputs and Outputs

Overview: In addition to being compatible with nearly any aftermarket radio having preamp outputs, the Blaupunkt THA 275 PnP can be integrated into approximately 2,000 car models using plug-and-play (PnP) adapters. PnP adapter cables are designed to make adding a THA/PnP series amplifier to your factory radio as easy as plug-and-play.

Vehicle Compatibility: Numerous vehicle specific adapter cables are available, please check Outfit My Car to confirm compatibility with your vehicle.

PnP Installation: Three components are involved in the plug-and-play installation; the THA series amplifier, the vehicle specific adapter, and an extension cable (item number 023THA25M/2.5 meters or 023THA55M/5.5 meters, depending on your amp location). The vehicle specific adapter connects between the factory radio, the factory wiring at the radio location, and the extension cable. The extension cable is then routed to and plugs directly into the amplifier providing both power and speaker connections. The existing factory wiring does not have to be altered, the adapter simply plugs into the radio harness(es).

Terminal Layout: For wiring convenience all the inputs, outputs, and controls are on one side of the amp.

Wire Terminals: The speaker output and power input terminals use removable plugs to attach the wires to the amp. Bare speaker wire, up to 10 gauge for power, ground, and remote and up to 12 gauge for the speakers, is held in place by a set screw, the plug then snaps onto the terminals on the amp. If the PnP system is used, these terminal plugs are not used.

Direct Aux Input: An auxiliary source (portable, DVD player, navigation system, etc) can be plugged directly into the 3.5mm mini-jack on the amp. Both the auxiliary and main inputs are amplified simultaneously, so the volume of each must be independently adjustable.

Speaker-Level Input: The THA 275 PnP has speaker-level inputs for use only with the PnP system.

Auto Turn On: When the PnP system is used an automatic circuit turns the amp on, so no turn on lead is necessary.

Remote Output: If the amp is turned on automatically by a signal from the PnP system, the remote terminal becomes a remote output (+12 volts/200mA), to trigger another component.

Bridgeable: The amp can only be bridged to one channel if the RCA inputs, not the PnP system, are used.

Controls (front of unit):

  • Crossover Switch: turn the low-pass crossover on/off
  • Low Pass Crossover Frequency: rotary control used to select the low pass crossover frequency, continuously variable from 50 to 250Hz
  • High Pass/Subsonic Crossover Frequency: rotary control used to select the high pass crossover frequency, continuously variable from 10 to 250Hz
  • Gain control: rotary control used to set the amplifier's gain according the level of the incoming signal, continuously variable from 0.3V to 8.0V

Inputs and Outputs

Inputs and Outputs:

  • Power: the removable power terminal will accept power, ground, and remote bare wire input up to 10 gauge, Blaupunkt recommends 16 gauge wire minimum for power and ground; once the power terminal is removed, either of the PnP extension cables will plug directly into the amp to supply power
  • Speaker Output: the removable speaker terminal will accept bare wire up to 12 gauge; once the speaker terminal is removed, either of the PnP extension cables will plug directly into the amp to integrate the speaker output with the factory wiring
  • Speaker Input: the speaker-level input is only useful when integrating the amp with a factory radio using the PnP system
  • Line Input: left and right female RCA jacks
  • Line Output: left and right female RCA jacks
  • Direct Aux: 3.5mm mini-jack input
