An amplifier can make a huge difference in your car's audio system, but some people just aren't comfortable cutting and splicing wires — especially in a leased vehicle or a company car. Now Blaupunkt offers another option: connect a Plug'N'Play Series amplifier to your factory system with the help of a Plug'N'Play T-harness designed for your specific vehicle.

Blaupunkt's Plug'N'Play Series amplifiers produce big power from ultra-compact housings, so they'll fit into some tight places in your vehicle. These full-range Class D amps use miniaturized power transformers for cool, efficient operation so your speakers will sound fuller, with clearer highs, richer mids and more powerful bass.

The THA475 4-channel amp pushes out 75 watts RMS per channel to four speakers, or can be bridged to drive 180 watts RMS to a pair of subwoofers or speakers. A direct auxiliary input lets you plug in your MP3 player or navigation device, a big plus if your factory receiver has no aux input. An automatic input detection circuit eliminates the need for a remote turn-on lead.

Product Highlights:

  • 4-channel car amplifier
  • 75 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (85 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms)
  • 180 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 4 ohms

My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Put this in a Silverado DBL cab, new body style, pulled out the rear seats, insulated the back wall, and mounted it flat. It fits great without taking up any of the floor space. Sounds great with my 6.5 MOMO's. Chevy's "BOSE" system is paper cone speakers that were assembled south of Texas. Good upgrade!!

This is a great amp for its size! It powers 4 Infinity component speakers in my car and it pushes them with no problem!

Blaupunkt's Latest Benefits from Modern Technology

Written by: Allan from Kerrville, Tx on January 31, 2009

The Blaupunkt THA475PnP power amplifier employs "digital" amplification and provides the concommitant benefits: smaller size, lower weight, less heat generated and lower demands made on the car electrical system.

I use the THA475PnP with aftermarket components in my vehicle so I make use of the preamp inputs on the amplifier rather than the special PnP wiring harnesses that Blaupunkt offers for simplified installation in a car with an existing "factory" audio system. The amplifier requires that all four inputs be connected in order to use all four channels of amplification. The amplifier does not offer any type of bass boost switch

In use the amplifier has been operating very well for the month that I have owned it. No turn on/off noises, no audible background hiss and no interference with FM radio reception. I find the amplifier quite attractive with its' minimalist, understated styling. I think it looks better than the photographs are able to convey.

My first purchase from Crutchfield was a testament to the chorus of praise regulary found on these pages. Free 3 day shipping arrived in two days during Christmas week - I was very pleasantly surprised by the quick delivery. I purchased a "scratch and dent" model and had to examine the amplifier carefully to discover the light exterior scratches that nominated it for that status.

In conclusion, I can enthusiastically recommend the Blaupunkt THA475PnP and the Crutchfield organization without reservation.

It is a great space saver and it's chassis is a good build. The only problem I had was when I delivered strong signals on the higher frequencies it would clip. I corrected this problem with my eq and my crossover which has a minus and plus side for the tweeter.

Nice amp and easy to install

This had to be the easiest amp I have ever installed. I used the PNP plugs to my stock receiver and was done in 15 mins. Sound is great and was a perfect match with my Boston replacement speakers for the OEM speakers.

Great Sound for an F-150

I have a Blaupunkt THA475PNP to power a pair of Boston Acoustics Pro50 5-1/4" in the front doors and a pair of Polk Audio MMC5250 in the rear doors. and a Pioneer FH-P8000BT CD Receiver. In addition I have this with JL Audio Stealthbox with a Pioneer GM5300T. That is all you need! Crisp and clear sound and a great bass. The JL Audio Stealthbox is so easy to install and the sound is perfect. Now I just need to figure out where to put the other gear I had underneath the rear seat.
The first Blaupunkt I received got very hot and had a very high pitch noise during warm up, Crutchfield excellent customer service replaced it and it is a absolutely great AMP.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the best engineered and best performing unit that seems possible. I upgraded the speakers on my 2008 Sportage some time ago, but an otherwise acceptable head unit did not have the power to run the Infinity speakers. This unit went in so easily, fit under the front seat and really lites the sound up. I could not ask for more. First class all the way around and not one wire to cut, splice, or wrap. I could not recommend it more. The instructions worked fine. Held in place with industrial velcro. AND the price was as good as I could find at Crutchfield.

Worth every penny

2003 Chevy Regular cab truck. This is was perfect for my needs, no open space for a large amp in a reg cab truck. The 75 watts per channel was plenty of power for me, I'm not even using half of the gain control. Amp is small and rests nicely on the ledge that runs behind the seats. I only used heavy duty velcro to secure it, no need for sheet metals taps and such. Like the previous reviewer I purchased the Plug and Play harness and the installation was so much easier. It was worth the extra money for me plus it worked as advertised, another words no surprises after you had the radio out of the dash. Amp sounds great and has plenty of adjustability.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this amp. in my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with some after market speakers I also purchased from crutchfield. I used the PNP harness. Very, very easy instalation. Put it under the drivers seat. Sounds great and I can still use my steering wheel controls and factory Sirius radio as well as keeping the factory dash look. The only negative is, if you dont have an equalizer on your factory radio, as I do not, you cant tweak your music. I can tell you it will make your factory radio sound GREAT providing you install better speakers. I love this unit, and the products and service Crutchfield provides is second to none.

Inputs and Outputs

Overview: In addition to being compatible with nearly any aftermarket radio having preamp outputs, the Blaupunkt THA 475 PnP can be integrated into approximately 2,000 car models using plug-and-play (PnP) adapters. PnP adapter cables are designed to make adding a THA/PnP series amplifier to your factory radio as easy as plug-and-play.

Vehicle Compatibility: Numerous vehicle specific adapter cables are available, please check Outfit My Car to confirm compatibility with your vehicle.

PnP Installation: Three components are involved in the plug-and-play installation; the THA series amplifier, the vehicle specific adapter, and an extension cable (item number 023THA25M/2.5 meters or 023THA55M/5.5 meters, depending on your amp location). The vehicle specific adapter connects between the factory radio, the factory wiring at the radio location, and the extension cable. The extension cable is then routed to and plugs directly into the amplifier providing both power and speaker connections. The existing factory wiring does not have to be altered, the adapter simply plugs into the radio harness(es).

Terminal Layout: For wiring convenience all the inputs, outputs, and controls are on one side of the amp.

Wire Terminals: The speaker output and power input terminals use removable plugs to attach the wires to the amp. Bare speaker wire, up to 10 gauge for power, ground, and remote and up to 12 gauge for the speakers, is held in place by a set screw, the plug then snaps onto the terminals on the amp. If the PnP system is used, these terminal plugs are not used.

Direct Aux Inputs: Two auxiliary sources (portable, DVD player, navigation system, etc) can be plugged directly into the 3.5mm mini-jacks on the amp (one each for the front and rear channels). If the same auxiliary source is to be use for all 4 channels, a Y-adapter should be used. Both the auxiliary and main inputs are amplified simultaneously, so the volume of each must be independently adjustable.

Speaker-Level Input: The THA 475 PnP has speaker-level inputs for use only with the PnP system.

Auto Turn On: When the PnP system is used an automatic circuit turns the amp on, so no turn on lead is necessary.

Remote Output: If the amp is turned on automatically by a signal from the PnP system, the remote terminal becomes a remote output (+12 volts/200mA), to trigger another component.

Bridgeable: The front and/or the back sections of the amp can be bridged independently, making it a 4, 3, or 2 channel amp. To be bridged, the RCA inputs, not the PnP system, must be used.

Controls (front of unit):

  • Front Crossover Switch: turn the front low-pass crossover on/off
  • Rear Crossover Switch: turn the rear low-pass crossover on/off
  • Front Low Pass Crossover Frequency: rotary control used to select the front low pass crossover frequency, continuously variable from 50 to 250Hz
  • Rear Low Pass Crossover Frequency: rotary control used to select the rear low pass crossover frequency, continuously variable from 50 to 250Hz
  • Front High Pass/Subsonic Crossover Frequency: rotary control used to select the front high pass crossover frequency, continuously variable from 10 to 250Hz
  • Rear High Pass/Subsonic Crossover Frequency: rotary control used to select the rear high pass crossover frequency, continuously variable from 10 to 250Hz
  • Front Gain control: rotary control used to set the amplifier's front channel gain according the level of the incoming signal, continuously variable from 0.3V to 8.0V
  • Rear Gain control: rotary control used to set the amplifier's rear channel gain according the level of the incoming signal, continuously variable from 0.3V to 8.0V

Inputs and Outputs

Inputs and Outputs:

  • Power: the removable power terminal will accept power, ground, and remote bare wire input up to 10 gauge, Blaupunkt recommends 16 gauge wire minimum for power and ground; once the power terminal is removed, either of the PnP extension cables will plug directly into the amp to supply power
  • Speaker Outputs: the removable speaker terminals, one front and one rear, will accept bare wire up to 12 gauge; once the speaker terminal is removed, either of the PnP extension cables will plug directly into the amp to integrate the speaker output with the factory wiring
  • Speaker Inputs: the speaker-level inputs are only useful when integrating the amp with a factory radio using the PnP system
  • Front Line Input: left and right female RCA jacks
  • Rear Line Input: left and right female RCA jacks
  • Line Output: left and right female RCA jacks
  • Front Direct Aux: 3.5mm mini-jack input
