Who needs a powered subwoofer?

To produce bass, you need a sub, an enclosure, and an amplifier, and it can be little tricky to match them all up. A powered sub eliminates all the hassle, as the manufacturer designs the enclosure to house the sub and amp together. This all-in-one solution is especially useful in smaller vehicles, where there's no room to mount a separate amp, or in any vehicle where you need every bit of cargo space. Powered subs range from small, flat boxes that fit under your seat to larger boxes that go in your trunk.

Perfect for a my Jeep Wrangler

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed to add a little more base to my jeep but didnt want to spend alot of money or give up to much space. This unit fits perfectly under the back seat of my 97' Wrangler and adds just enough base. Very easy to mount and connect took less than an hour.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

just installed this in my 06 gmc sierra p/u. i have the 7 speaker bose system that has it's own sub in the center consol that you can't hear. i hooked it up using the speaker level inputs & wired in to the right rear speaker at the door this produced very little base.. bose has a built in x-over that sends all the base to the sub in the center consol. i could not even see the factory sub as it is burried in wires & a/c parts. so i took the back off my center consol & found the wiring comming out of thr factory amp & wired up my new sub to the 2 wires that go to the factory sub. WOW what a difference this thing came alive i had to turn the gain control down to 40% this little sub is well worth the money.....

Just what I needed!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just got through with the install. Others were right about the noise and
needing a filter, good heads up guys. Other than that, this unit is just
what I needed. More response at 40 hz than I was expecting thats for
sure. I installed it in a 99' Jeep Wrangler. I don't know how anyone would
expect to install it under either of the front seats. Fits just perfect under
my roll and tumble. On one had keeps it well protected, but on the other
hand it is in the middle of the floor board when the back seat is removed.
But I have a truck for carring stuff, just keep that in mind. But what a nice
piece of equipment added to my Pioneer DEH-P5000UB head unit, Alpine
SPS-406 4"x6" 2 way speakers, and Kenwood KFC-1382ie 5-1/4" 3-way!

Not as easy to install as claimed

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is a very good sounding unit for being so small and relatively under-powered at 70 watts RMS. I reccomend it for anyone who has a small car or truck (as I do, a Toyota Tacoma standard cab) with little space to install a full SUB (10 inch and up) w/enclosure. However I must say that installing this is not as easy as it is made out to be. Car dash boards these days are designed to hide all wiring as much as possible. So, finding the correct wires out of your HU through the maze of wiring harnesses is not going to be easy (unless you are a pro car stereo installer by trade). Also, I was told by the pro installer I got to do the job that one should not hook this up to the speaker wires by tapping into them as that will reduce the efficiency and quality of the sound coming from the SUB. One should use RCA jacks to have the HU truly be able to shunt off the lower freqs to this unit. So, buy it if you need a compact SUB solution where nothing else will work. But, do yourself a favor and don't believe the hype that it is "easy" for you to install yourself.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in a crew cab chevy silverado, along with a new Sony head
unit and 4 Infinity Reference speakers powered by a old small Alpine 4
channel amp. I installed the head unit, amp and speakers first and noticed
a huge difference from stock speakers. Then I added the powered sub,
and my listening experience went to an entirely new level. The impact this
sub makes to fill in the music is unbelievable. I listen to alot of genres,
ranging from rock, metal, pop, dance, disco, classical, and electronic music.
Everything sounds better with the enhanced low end. Don't be scared of
the size or watts with this thing in the cab, you will not be disappointed.
Crutchfield technical support was excellent and entire experience for me as
a first time installer was very rewarding.

Good for a modest bass boost in a small car.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this sub to put into a Volkswagen Beetle. I was looking for something to give me a little bit more of a bottom end on drums and bass guitar without taking up much space. I should note that I listen to rock music which in my opinion is what the Blaupunkt THb 200A was made for. If you are looking for something to add a little bit more punch to the drums and bass this is for you. If you want people to hear your car thumping down the road, get another amp and sub because the 70 watts and 8" speaker in this one isn't suited for that. After installation, I turned my radio and sub up to peak capacity and stepped outside with all of the doors closed and windows up and I could not hear the bass. While in the car that's another story. The sub fills up the car with sound much better. I placed it in the trunk and the dome shape carries acoustics well. It's important to note that this sub really isn't suited for a large car and placement of it is key. I would not recommend installing this in a normal closed trunk. It's best suited in the cab of a vehicle like behind the seat of a truck or in an open floorboard.

All in all I would recommend this sub if what I posted above is what you're looking for. It would also make a nice present to a wife or girlfriend. It was easy to install, it's small and it came with all of the cables needed for installation except for a pair of RCA cables to hook up to the head unit. Crutchfield of course continues to be excellent to deal with as well.

Just what I needed

Written By Dave, Great West, US on Saturday, February 28, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is just what I needed to punch up the bass in my '05 Subaru Outback, where space is LIMITED. You will have to run a separate, fused power line directly from your battery to the sub--not included. There are two separate power lines and two separate ground wires running from the sub. I spliced both power lines into the one fused line running from my battery that seems to work fine, but KEEP THE GROUND LINES SEPARATE! I spliced the lines together and the sub became very loud and distorted. I separated the ground wires and voila, problem fixed...Also make sure you ground the unit close to where it will be mounted...I did use a ground loop isolator as there was a very faint interference which could be heard when no music was playing.

Included mounting hardware is mediocre at best. The sub will sound much better if it is very firmly mounted to a non-vibrating surface.

Don't worry that the power light stays on after head unit and car are turned off-- the sub will automatically power down after 60 secs.

Also needed but not included for the install will be a set of RCA jacks if you have preamp outputs on your head unit...low voltage inputs are provided if you want to splice into your speaker wires....

As always, fool with the settings to customize you sound....

Super Sub for me!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the BP powered sub for use in my 07 F150. Wanted to add just a little more oomph to my Infinity speakers that I installed earlier. This sub is just right for me. I'm not interested in the big boom boxes and wanted something that would fit under the seat. This was just right! Now I get that little extra kick that really compliments the sounds from my primary speakers. My music is now more alive and enjoyable. If you're looking for something to add a little to your listening and not take up a lot of room I'd recommend this unit. Also, the guys at Crutchfield are great to work with and when you order you get your materials in a timely manner. They also make sure you have all the stuff you need to set up your equipment and are just a phone call away if you experience any problems.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this a week ago. Several issues with the install. First, contrary to what is stated in the overview of this unit, it does NOT come with everything needed to install. You have to purchase an inline fuse as well as RCA cables. The unit has two power wires and two ground wires. I purchased two inline 20-amp fuses and installed one on each power wire instead of combining them into one. So far no problems. It is installed under my drivers seat. It sounds great! Right amount of bass but not overwhelming. It is just what I was looking for. I have a 97 Subaru Legacy GT wagon. I found an unused grommet above the drivers side kick panel. I ran the power wires through this and through the fender to the battery. RCA cables are 16 ft and go around the passenger side under the door sill to the rear seat. I then ran them under the carpet under the rear seat to the other side and then to the subwoofer. No static at all! I highly recommend this unit.

[Editor's Note: Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have corrected our presentation, and also added these required installation items to our "Accessories" tab.]

Sub arrived, smaller than I imagined, next morning install. After some difficulty (vehicle's tight clearences, not the product) I was up and ready to test. Power on, no sound. Adjust sub volume...WOW. I jumped in and closed the doors...WOW!!!!. Fidget with settings on sub and stock Ford unit in F-150 and SUPER-WOW! What are these other buyers complaining about? This little unit took my C- stock stereo to a firm A! Bass is as loud as you need and still tight. Would cover the bases for anything except hip hop or rap. 60s tunes with low bit rates still jam and more recent recordings blow me right out of the cab! Would highly recommend this to anyone whose music lacks a bottom. A very solid foundation for that.

Installed in a 1990 Miata with Blaupunkt GTc542 compnent speakers in the doors and a Blaupunkt Monterrey head unit. Mounted easily behind the passenger seat. I would not drill through this panel though, because your gas tank is underneath it. This setup is more than enough to curl your hair in my go cart even at seventy mph. Everything necessary for the installation came in the box.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Getting good bass into a Jeep Wrangler is a challenge because of the acoustics. I was not interested in vibrating the neighborhood - just getting solid bass and being able to overcome the road noise that is inherent ina Wrangler. Finding a sub-woofer that fits without giving up already limited space is even more challenging. This sub-woofer did both perfectly. I needed something to compliment the Infinity speakers I had installed and since I was also getting an Alpine HU this was the time to do it. The Blaupunkt unit was easy to install and reasonably easy to locate. I don't know how some folks get these under their Wrangler seats - sure can't fit anything under my seats. I located mine in the back of the cargo space and can still easily have the back seat down. I don't understand the use of two 18 gauge wires for power (instead of one larger one) but it works and more importantly it sounds excellent.

This is a great fit for the truck and won't roll around even if the included mounting brackets arn't used. I was disappointed in it's output though. I was expecting a significant boost in volume punch at low frequencies, but it fails to deliver. It definately makes my music more rich sounding but if you are looking at thumping loud base, try something else.

Great solution for rounding out your system

Written By miles, Woodstock, CT on Saturday, February 14, 2009

I put this in my V70 based on reviews here. Like many other people, I was looking to improve the lows on my system without getting something too big and boomy. I mounted it in the back behind the left wheel well. I had it professionally installed. I originally wanted it under the floor, but the installers insisted it would sound much better not buried under carpet and plywood. My only concern was having it exposed and inviting someone to break in and steal it. Their solution was to carpet it to match the back of my car. Looks fantastic and you hardly notice it. More importantly it sounds amazing! Can't believe how good it is. They tuned it just right so I can just use the bass control on my factory head unit to get just the right amount of kick. I replace my front speakers with BA SX60s and the detail from them combined with the bass of the sub is great. I highly recommend this sub, great price performance mix.

Wow...what a perfect addition to a very confined space in a small pickup!! This sub really rocks, installed it under my driver's seat with no problem. With my Sony CDX-GT400 head unit driving my door speakers, Polk 5"x7" 3 ways and my Infiniti 1021t Tweeters (Crutchfield), I really couldn't ask for a better sounding system. With a little tweaking on the sub unit itself, I can now adjust it perfectly from the Sony head unit. You can't go wrong with the THb 200A powered sub for the won't be disappointed, I'm definitely not!!!

The only thing I got with this was distorted bass which ruined all music. no bump. Had to pull over on my very first trip just to unplug it because it was so awful. I only wanted to enhance my bass , i did not want to shake my mirrors and this unit is not even close. I returned this and got alot more bass for a better price with a kicker truck box!! Great Sub For My Application

This was installed in a 2001 Jeep Wrangler under the front driver's seat. It gives new meaning to the term "rumble seat". It's a great sub... the only thing I had a problem with was some Alternator noise after I installed it (yes, I followed the directions that came with the unit). I did contact Crutchfield TS & Separated the RCAs from the power cables & shortened the Ground to the seat bolt and still had the noise. I bought a ground loop isolator and that fixed the noise.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this under the center console of a 2008 Silverado. I didn't have the Bose system, so there is room in the center console where the Bose sub/amp normally goes. It was almost a perfect fit. I did have to have the bottom of just one deeper pocket trimmed, but other than that it was a perfect fit and completely hidden. I was hoping I could have installed it under a seat, but there is simply no room under either seat to do that. I also didn't want to install this behing a rear seat, like some have done. I also installed a seperate volume control which I'm glad I have since the sub is inaccessable. I think this is actually a better location than under the seat anyway.

I won't say much about the sound other than it gives me exactly what I was looking for to help shore up the low-end in my truck. I'm very happy with it. I also replaced all the other speakers, but am still using the stock head unit.

Written By mcfly, Texas on Tuesday, January 27, 2009

Very impressed! My sound system consisted of replacing the four factory door speakers. Sounded good but was missing the bass. I installed the Blaupunkt in my 09 GMC Canyon crew cab under the back seat. Not much else will fit under this seat and there is really no room anywhere else in this truck. Anyway, about the sub, let's just say I found the missing link (bass)! I had the similar Kenwood KSC-SW1 installed in the same place in my 04 Colorado crew comparison. I would highly recommend the Blaupunkt to anyone looking for some decent bass in a factory sound system.

Goods Things in Small Package

Written By Ken, Austin, TX on Tuesday, January 20, 2009

1st let me say if you are looking for Huge Base like you would get from a large sub with large power, then this sub is not for you. However, if you do not have space and really want to improve the overall sound of your Car Stereo, then this is an incredible product. Small, Easy to install, and well priced considering you get an 8" sub with built in Amp. I really did not know what to expect from a package so small but was truly impressed by the Blaupunkt. The Base is consistent and strong through the volume range. The Amp sub combo is well balanced so you get good base even at low volumes and without having to turn on your loudness button. There is not much to fault here but if I had to pick one, the sub is a bit Punchy but this is easily corrected if your stereo has a built in Equalizer. Great Product, it far exceeded my expectations

Crazy sound from compact powered subwoofer

Written By cliff, Austin, TX on Monday, January 19, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I still can't believe the amazing sound in my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad cab. In this truck, space is limited to do anything more than replace door speakers and install an amp beneath a seat to power them (which I had done). The only options for subwoofers that I found other than this were very expensive custom made boxes that fit under the back seat in the already small storage areas.

I had this unit installed under my drivers seat, and no matter where you are sitting in the truck you can hear and feel the bass, and I only have the volume on the until at 1/2 and it is shocking!

I am even thinking about installing one in my wifes Acura MDX which already has a great 9 speaker system that includes a subwoofer....but can't match the sound found in this compact unit!

After 2 days of install time, I am impressed... Coming from two 10" subs in my pickup I was expecting to be disappointed. I'm very impressed with the sound from this little box.. However, there was way too much work required.. I've worked for audio shops in the past, have done my of own installs, and have never had such ground loop issues as I did with the amp in this unit. I know this is part to do with my vehicle as well, but never this much trouble.. Finally a line-level to RCA converter with a ground loop isolation transformer built in solved all my problems.. If it wasn't my only option as far as size, I probably would have sent it back and tried something else.. In the end, well worth the frustration... You will be impressed with the sound!

Good purchase

Written By Stu, San Francisco, CA on Saturday, January 10, 2009

This is a continuation of my BOAT installation. I'd purchased and installed a SONY XR-F5100 with a 10-disc changer two years ago, reviewed it there and we're very happy with the unit since we installed it.

Missing the "low end" in our inexpensive but small-enough-to-fit saloon speakers, I'd been researching "deep" support and found it here.

The wiring harness was a great assist to connect the subwoofer to our boat's electrical panel. Saved a lot of extra work - really made it a plug and play.

This owner's review section was extremely helpful. I learned about the option of including the non-essential ON/OFF switch and did install one, since it reduces battery drain which is important on our boat.

The combination of the Sony with its SUB controls right on the stereo with the easily accessible controls on the subwoofer make the settings on the
subwoofer somewhat less critical, given the different music we listen to, which is easily adjustable thru the Sony.

I'm still working on the developing the balance between the existing speakers and the new unit, but this powered subwoofer was a pleasure to
install and listen to. From my original sound experience to this?::: "It was so bad, anything would be better!":::But this is much more than I'd

Only suggestion: Use finger knobs for the controls instead of needing a thin bit screwdriver to adjust the volume, crossover and phase controls. Just the engineer/boater in me talking. :)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this unit for a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Had the factory basic 6-speaker system which sounded good but did not have enough bass. The Blaupunkt filled the bill VERY nicely. It fits under either front seat just fine with plenty of room to spare (recommend the drivers side). Included wiring harness has all you need (power & ground wires + speaker wires; there is plenty of length). Got power directly from the battery using an inline fuseholder/fuse from Crutchfield (run wires through firewall along with the hood release cable). Tap into factory speaker wires at the plug on back of factory stereo unit with the speaker wires provided & you're good to go. Only question I had was which wires do I splice into? No problem! Call Crutchfield's excellent technical support & they tell you which wires you need for your particular vehicle...they are outstanding people & second to none! The sound? Superb! Now have all the bass I need. The sound is crystal clear & adjustable to your individual taste. HIGHLY recommend this unit (& don't bother buying from anyone but Crutchfield - get the excellent service & support you need & deserve!).

This unit is well built and feels very solid, however... Its output just was not sufficient to keep up with my Kenwood 70w 4 channel amp and 4 Infinity 60.7cs speakers in my Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. The sound it put out was barely audible at full gain from the sub and my head unit. Also, I kept getting ground loop interference everytime I plugged this unit in. This sub uses the pre-amp cables as its remote start-up signal. I talked to three different Crutchfield engineers and we finally determined this feature was causing my ground loop problem. I returned this sub and exchanged for a JL Audio PowerWedge sub and a Rockford Fosgate 250 watt amp, and I'm glad I did. Overall, I would not recommend the Blaupunkt THb 200A sub. There are better solutions out there.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking to fill the low-frequency gap left by the 3-1/2" and 4" aftermarket speakers in my '91 VW Golf, and the Thb 200A is just what I was hoping for. It's small, reasonably priced, and (now that I've got it tuned with the rest of the system) it fills out the sound really well. For reference, my other speakers are driven by the receiver that maxes out at 22w RMS and this 70w RMS amp/sub seems to have plenty of power to spare.

It didn't quite fit under the front seats, so I've got it mounted in the hatchback area and I can still turn it up to suit my tastes without it being too loud outside of the car. For a modest subwoofer, I'm truly surprised at how it seamlessly handles the bigger bass sounds of hip hop (check out the Minneapolis hip hop scene if you're not already familiar!) alongside the more subdued levels in the variety of other styles I enjoy. I'd definitely recommend it - especially if your headunit has internal subwoofer controls since the Thb 200A doesn't have a remote for easy access for adjustments as necessary.

I've also relied heavily on the Crutchfield product advisers and forums. For someone like myself who doesn't have the inclination to understand all of the technical specs of audio equipment (and what they mean in real life), I've found them to be invaluable.

Quality product

I was cautious at first when I considered this sub, as it was on the smaller end of what I was looking at, but I was very surprised when I plugged it in and listened to it for the first time. The enclosure is made entirely of metal, so it won't rattle or shake as a plastic enclosure would. Also, I have it stashed in a vented compartment in the back of a wagon type vehicle, and despite its size, it fills the entire vehicle. This isn't the sub for you if you want to rattle your trunk, but it will give you all the bass you need, and more. Also, when I say that it won't "rattle your trunk", that's all I mean - you can defiantly hear the sub from outside, but you might be disappointed if your goal is to impress people _outside_ the car. I had also read about problems with the auto-off feature, but I have not had any issues with this. When you turn the car off, it takes about 30 seconds for the sub to go, then it's out.

Blaupunkt THb 200A

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

having had to replace the reciever in my '04 honda minivan (real sexy, huh) i decided to change out the factory speakers also. but they were not able
to give the "fullness" needed to fill out the cavern of space in a minivan (even with a 100 watt amplifer). i wasn't wanting to pimp my ride, just trying to have a more complete sound. we use our van for everything from camping to trips to the local home repair center, so space was VERY important. after reading the reviews on the blaupunkt i felt it would fit the bill. i located it under the third seating so that if i needed to, i could remove it, for the tents or plywood. i knew that it was not going to be a
window shaker, but rather a filler. and that is just what it does. i removed all the low freg. from my two ways so that they would work like they were
designed, and allowed the blaupunkt to fill in the low end. and that was all i wanted, a filler, to complete the sound. and when i am by myself, i can
turn up the volume and feel single again, almost (i love my kids and wife).

Jeep Wrangler Sub Replacement

Written By Kevin, Troy, Michigan on Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Jeep subwoofers ending life early seem to be endemic. I blew the speaker
on mine pumping iPod music direct injected into the radio head and it must
have been too much for the cone. The amp is good, I'm sure and the
housing still intact - there just aren't a lot of options for replacing a 6-1/2"
dual voice coil bass woofer that can handle 70 watts.

I bought this as a replacement with the intent of mounting it under the
seat. Since the factory subwoofer was connected to the rest of the system
with a harness, I cut that off of the factory subwoofer assembly and built a
custom interconnect harness with the Jeep connector on one end and the
THB-200 connector on the other. With this setup, it was plug and play -
remove the rear portion of the center console, and plug the Jeep end of the
harness back in - coil the excess and keep it under the console, and the
remainder of the wire was routed under the carpet and out one of the
footman-loop slots in the carpet nearest the panel of the woofer.

I gave it a 4 because I'm still working out the settings for gain and phase,
though I've set the crossover frequency to its highest setting because it
seems that the frequency band for this woofer is a little narrower than the
factory woofer.

It does have punch and kick that you can FEEL, without the annoying boom,
buzz and rattle outside the vehicle common to "teenager subwoofer"

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wow, what a great addition to your system. I wanted to add more low end to my system with easy installation and without hooking up a lot of different gear. This little powered sub was the perfect solution. Looks great, fits anywhere (I put mine under the front passenger seat), and added the right amount of low-end to work with the Alpine S500's I put in. It may be small but it makes a big difference in my car. Great quality unit!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent product that enhances the dismal bass response from most OEM sound systems. It is very simple to install, however do not bolt this device directly to your vehicle, as I found out it will rattle every piece of plastic on it. Instead secure the subwoofer to a 1 inch thick piece of firm shipping foam,(usually black in color), with clear silicone. Then place subwoofer under the seat. Excellent results and no rattles. One further note is, adjust the crossover to the lowest frequency and volume to match your OEM sound system (usually less than half volume).

A little bottom for the Tundra...

Written By WAYNE, Tucson, AZ on Thursday, August 07, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed some better bass response in my Tundra Access Cab, and the THb200 does that beautifully. I listen to jazz, rock, classical, big beat and the Blaupunkt handles it all. As you've read already, its not a pair of 12" pounders, but for a contained unit that easily installed under the passenger seat (and is a total sleeper), it sounds great. It took some time to adjust the high and low pass filters in my HU to get the Sub Woof handling the appropriate lows, and my full range door speakers handling the rest, but the effort was well worth the rich balanced sound. I thought that the lack of a remote would be a problem, but it turns out that once you match the SW settings to your HU, you can pretty much control everything you need from the HU. I turned the volume up to as high a level as I generally listen to and then got out and stood next to the vehicle and was surprised that I could hardly hear the bass. For me, that's perfect.

Jeeps aren't exactly known for having a lot of extra space, so when the factory sub went out in my 2002 Wrangler I wanted to replace it with something that would offer decent bass but not take up the whole back seat. I decided on the THb 200A and installed it under the driver's seat. The sound is excellent and really fills out my music. It's not going to rattle the windows but it is powerful enough to let you know it's there. I have no complaints at all.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Sub is perfect for me. You won't get bone-crunching lows but if you listen to mostly metal like I do you won't be disappointed. I also bought Blaupunkt speakers for the front and rear and all together they sound awesome! I have a Kenwood CD receiver in the dash right now but I'm tempted to purchase one of the Blaupunkt media receivers since I haven't carried cd's in a couple of years now. The only reason I gave this sub a 4 instead of 5 is because when I turn my truck on or off, the sub makes an annoying, loud humming sound for like a split second. I tried to get it fixed by installing different rca cables, as a crutchfield rep suggested, but it didn't fix the problem, The noise isn't as bad, but it's still there. By the way, this setup does not come with rca cables included. All in all though, I highly recommend this sub!

Good Sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this unit in my '96 Bronco, first in the console, then under the back seat. It won't fit under the front seats. I had to remove a cover from under the back seat to get it to fit. This seems to be a really good location. I did have to install a toggle switch in the power line. It seems the auto shutoff feature on my sub is not reliable. Somewhat annoying. The manual switch ensures that my battery will not be drained.

As for the sound, I think it is just fantastic. It really enhances and completes my sound system. It gives me just the amount of bass I was looking for. It is audible at highway speeds and provides a bit of a punch to boot. I don't need tree trunk splitting, bone crushing bass anyway. Very pleased with what this product provides.

I would reccomend to Blaupunkt, however, to include a manual I/O switch and a more comprehensive and detailed instruction manual. All in all, a great sounding powered sub.

Its amazing Blaupunkt can offer a great package like this for this price. I recently had this unit installed in my 2007 Pathfinder under the drivers seat. This is not a unit for the kids who want to impress their friends with loud bone shaking bass, but if you want clear, tight bass that fills in where your door speakers leave off then this is the one. Unit is easy to install, package comes with everything except in line fuse and RCAs. I looked around and found some for a few bucks off, but I remembered that crutchfield will stand behind their products with no hassle with great service and advice. Try calling another seller for help troubleshooting. Buy from Crutchfield they are a top notch retailer.

is it as good as two 12's in your trunk? no, but thats an unreasonable expectation. i have a regular cab, small tacoma and there is NO room for any components. i bought this because its the smallest thing out there, just hoping it would fill in the lows for me and it does that and more. i am impressed at how low this 8 will respond and how hard will hit. if youre only willing or able to give up as much space as a shoebox only half as tall then you couldnt ask for better performance. i've been building systems as a hobby for over 15 years and for the price, size and sound, it doesnt get much better.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After alot of research, I narrowed it down to the Blaupunkt unit because it would fit under the passenger seat of my 1996 suburban I just got. How can a vehical come with 8 factory speakers and no base? Don't know but they managed it. I was really hopeing this small unit was going to give the huge interior enough bass, and I was not dissapointed. The install took me 2 1/2 hours, and when I turned it on I was amazed. This unit delivers the low sounds that was needed and the right amount of thump when required. Will it knock your dental fillings out and turn your insides to jello like my daughters setup?, no, but man does it produce some solid base with the right amount of thump. Thanks again Crutchfield for a quality product.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered this subwoofer based on reviews and for its compact size. It was installed in my wifes 08 Suzuki SX4 sedan under the front passenger seat. Despite other reviews, do not put it in the trunk. You cannot hear it. Initially it was placed in the trunk but could not be heard at full volume. Overall the sub is good for high end/midrange bass. There is no low end whatsoever in this unit. Do not buy it if you want low end you will be disappointed. It picks up where the Infinity door speakers leave off. Honestly, I feel in order to well round her audio now I need to install a good 10" sub in the trunk. Don't get me wrong, this is an exceptional unit with good clarity and excellent punch but it is only suited for high end/midrange thump.

I read the reviews and decided on this model from Blaupunkt. I knew Crutchfield wouldn't offer it if it wasn't a quality product. I have to say it impressed me the first time I turned it on. Completely fills in the voids of sound I experienced with just door speakers. I have a 96 Nissan hardbody pickup and was able to mount it behind my seat with very little loss of space. I wholeheartedly recommend this unit, especially if you have limited space.

The sports car sub solution!

Written By Michael, Connecticut on Thursday, June 26, 2008

As an auto enthusiast, sports-car owner, and amature autocrosser, mobile audio is not really my thing. However, I must admit that I have spent money that could have gone into go-fast parts on "luxuries" like a fancy audio system, at least for my daily driver that is. Problem is, my "daily driver" is a Porsche 944 that's not exactly silent inside at highway speeds, and my poor un-amped speakers just couldn't output the lows I wanted under these conditions. The obvious solution was a subwoofer, but we purists frown upon those ugly, bulky, heavy, obnoxious things that all the import-tuner boys are running around with these days. I was hesitant, to say the least.

Enter the Blaupunkt THb 200A: It's pre-amped simplicity and ultra-slim size made it seem a bit more friendly for my application. I was able to pull my (heavy!) spare tire and mount this unit in the vacant cavity in the rear of the car. To my surprise, this little thing was actually much lighter than the spare it replaced, meaning I actually saved weight! Furthermore, having it mounted in that big cavity gives it a little extra volume, though I can't say it needs it. This thing is an acoustical wonder! It puts out impressive bass for such a small package, and adds much needed depth to every piece in the wide variety of music on my HU - From Jazz to Techno, this little unit does it all, but without the bulk and obnoxious volume of some other subs...

considering it's size. Perfect for basic aftermarket set-up like mine. If you
don't want to sacrifice any cargo space and wants to add bass to your
system, get this. I have experimented with different locations inside my
truck and I can say that it produces more bass when located under the
seat. It doesn't rattle things but it makes a difference, easy installation
too. Perfect for me. Thank you Crutchfield!

Clean, Simple and just right

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this powered sub for my 2007 Honda CRV EX. I wanted something clean and simple and this product fit the bill. Everything from visiting the website, questions I had about the product (used online chat), delivery and installation made this experience a very nice one. Now, this little powered sub is pretty amazing. I love it! At first, I admit I was a little disappointed. I went from owning a Ford Explorer with a competition system to a factory radio with this little sub. So naturally I compared right off the bat. However, after making some adjustments to the sub this thing fit right it. It is not going to make your internal organs (heart, brain, lungs, kidneys and whatever else we have inside us vibrate like my last system did, but it integrates very nicely with the factory system and you can really feel and hear the upgrade. This powered sub makes everything sound fantastic. So, if you are looking to complement your factory radio and speakers without any modifications and within a budget that won't break the bank, go to and get this thing. Other added pluses are that it looks great (installed in cargo area of the 07 CRV as it does not fit under seats) but it's small so it doesn't take up much space and the automatic on/off switch is a great feature as well. I gave it a week after the installation to write this review (break-in period). I highly recommend it. Thanks Crutchfield.

I guess if you have a pretty sparse sound system this thing would help. But apparently the factory system in my F150 is not. I plugged this subwoofer in and couldn't tell the difference at all. I had to turn the gain up all the way and crank up the bass output on the stereo to notice anything. Even then it wasn't much.

I can't disagree more with the reviewer who said it "overpowered" the sound in their vehicle. Definitely not the case. I'm exchanging it for a beefier one.

Fully satisfied. Installation was easy. I used streetwires for the RCA connection from a Sony CDX-GT410U cd receiver. Taped power from one of the aux power jacks. Have it set at about 90 HZ and 3/4 volume. I don't have any other special speaker systems, just Pioneer speakers in place of the OEM speakers. Will probably tune the EQ setup to reduce low frequency output to the other speakers, like using base blockers.

I installed ths subwoofer in my 2001 Dodge Ram regular cab. I already had Blaupunkt components and midrange speakers, and a Sony receiver. I was really only looking for something to fill the missing bass void and make the system sound a bit more "full". I was surprised when I actually had to turn the gain on the sub almost all the way down so I didn't overpower the rest of the system. I originally planned on installing it under the driver seat, but after listening to it for a while, it really drowned out the mids and highs, so I moved it directly behind the center seat. I listen to everything from rock to rap to classical sometimes, and everything sounds great. I'm very happy with this sub, and you can't beat the price for the amount of bass it puts out. My car has a full competition system, and now the truck sounds almost just as good.

I bought this unit to fill out the bass in my V70 Volvo wagon. There isn't much room, so the small size was attractive. I mounted it in the back behind the left wheel. The hardest part was getting power, but once I figured out I could run a wire from the battery through the fuse box into the cab I was set. The relatively small amp meant I didn't have to run a huge wire. There is no remote volume control, but once the unit is balanced there is no need in this kind of simple application. The sound is clean and full and perfectly matched to the factory stereo in the car.

For an old man of 37, this was a perfect product. I was looking for extra depth for my new stereo and this product gave me exactly that. I was looking for something compact and something that would not rattle my teeth and this product gave me both. It fits nicely under the back seat of my Ford Explorer and is not over-powering. I did not give it five stars because for a do-it-yourself installer like myself, the directions were very unclear and I was informed by Crutchfield tech support that I needed to install an inline fuse, which was not a problem but the directions said nothing about that. Nice addition if it fits your needs

Written By WeeHooker, SE MASS on Sunday, December 23, 2007

As a 40 something guy who listens to everything BUT hip hop, I didn't even consider a subwoofer when I replaced the audio system in my 07 Nissan Frontier earlier this year. My newly installed Crutchfield system (JVC KW-XG700, Infinity Reference 5010s, Polk db650s and Sony xm-4) sounded great but I couldn't help but want a bit more "depth". Specifically, my new speakers (5.25" & 6.5 and respectively), sounded fantastic in high and mid frequency ranges but were just "OK" at the lower end. I decided that adding more bass was the answer. However, I wanted to add that bass without allot of additional cost, effort or loss of storage space.
Enter the THb 200A with it's simple 3 wire install, 8" driver, and (slightly smaller than advertised) size that could completely disappear under either front seat. After the install and some control tweaking, I can say I'm pretty impressed. Even with my 50W/channel main system cranked up, this little woofer powered through clearly. (BTW: It IS capable of a little thump at higher settings IF you like that sort of thing.). I'm now hearing low end music details that I had missed before and it seems like my whole system has developed a fuller, more realistic sound.
The auto on/ off feature works great and I simply adjust output to taste by adjusting the JVCs sub output setting. The ONLY downside I see to the 200A is that it could use more power than 70W RMS. I'm running it with it's volume control @ max and JVCs sub output on 5-6 of 8 most of the time. IMHO, it's adequate for factory and/or moderately powered systems ( like mine) but I'm guessing it could get lost against a system with more amp than I'm running..

Perfect mix of bass for F150 Super Crew stock stereo

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

i just had this installed yesterday. it way exceeded my expectations. it is pretty small and mounted perfectly in the middle under my back seat ( i have a 2004 ford f150 supercrew).
the sound is perfect for my setup. i have the stock headunit with a 6 cd changer. i upgraded my other speakers with infinity compontents in the front and infinity two-ways in the the back and i also have sirius radio. i dont have an amp to power my speakers - other than the headunit.
the bass is strong but it doesnt overpower the rest of the speakers. it mixes perfectly. it doesnt rattle the windows but you can feel it. i had a shop run the wires and the installer even commented how suprised he was it put out that much sound and he was skeptically when i brought it in.
the only problem i had with it is the wires in the wiring harness are pretty low gauge and not long enough for a supercrew. the installer had to extend the length of the wires. but they seem to work fine.
i recommend it to anyone that wants to add a good mix of bass to their stock system and not mess with the cost or a bulkly box and amp.

I got this sub because it would fit nicely under my seat in my Subaru legacy. The sub is a great size and has good sound as the reviews mention above.

However, I had problems with the auto shutoff feature in that I had to have my volume set at 40% in order for the sub to stay on. The sub was connected to a JVC radio using RCA cables and not the direct to speaker wires as you would in a stock receiver. Obviously, you need to have the sub shut off at a certain level so that you don't drain your battery. But this was set too high and Blaupunkt's documentation was sparse about the feature.

Thanks to Crutchfield for giving suggestions to address the problem and in the end allowing me to exchange for the better Kenwood powered sub that has a specific power switch that connects to the radio.

Good sub for my 2005 Jetta

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had been looking around for quite some time for a sub to fill out the bass in my 2005 (new body style) VW Jetta. The Blaupunkt sub seemed to fit the bill so I ordered it.
For starters, it fits perfectly in a small storage cubbyhole in the trunk. The unit is very well constructed and looks very sharp. It provides just the right amount of bass to fill out the factory sound system, and works great, even in the trunk.
Although the unit has speaker input connections, I bought a speaker-to-line input converter and used it with the Blaupunkt sub.
My only complaint is that there is no remote control with the unit - this makes it hard to adjust it for optimal sound. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the appearance and performance.

Exactly what I was looking for.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

With my '06 Frontier pickup, there isn't much space for a system so I had to go with a compact sub. This is exactly what I wanted. Good, strong, deep bass in a compact area. Don't expect to get the sound of 2 10" subs because you won't get it, but this wasn't designed for that anyways. My collection is 70% Rock/Metal, 15% Rap/R&B, 10% Jazz/Blues, and 5% misc and it all sounds good and bassy. Highly recommended if you are strapped for space and want an easy install.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently bought a 2007 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab and wanted to upgrade the factory system. I bought my gear from Crutchfield (Infinity Kappa 60.7cs Components, Blaupunkt Vx652 6 1/2", and Sony XM-4S slim 50x4 amp) and had a big name electronics retailer install. The techs didn't know how to set the amplifier and I found that my new system had NO BASS. I wasn't expecting a "thump", but the factory setup was better! After doing my own tweaking (which improved things greatly) and more investigating, I bought this sub because it would fit under my seat. It met my expectations and more! This unit delivers more than enough bass for the type of music I listen to (rock & metal). I think that this sub is great for those that don't want to give up any cargo space and are looking to fill out their system. Perfect for a pick-up!
