The natural warmth of real wood delivers true audiophile sound

Even as headphones develop more and more features, sound quality remains the top priority for music lovers. Fortunately, Denon hasn't forgotten the audiophiles out there. The AH-D7100 delivers uncompromised sonic bliss through a transparent presentation that lets every detail of your music shine through in a comfortable, over-the-ear headphone.

Denon AH-D7100 Music Maniac earcups

Wooden earcups deliver natural acoustic warmth.

Precision-tuned to a flat EQ, the AH-D7100 features hand-carved mahogany earcups to give your music natural warmth, free from the coloration that most headphones introduce. Denon's 50mm proprietary Free Edge Nano Fiber drivers are designed to make your headphones sound more like high-end speakers. The result is a neutral presentation that gives each instrument stunning clarity and depth, projecting them across a wide soundstage to let you hear every nuance of the performance.

Connect with your music

Audiophile headphones depend on high-quality connections to deliver pristine sound. The AH-D7100 ensures that the rich detail of your music doesn't get lost in the wires. The included 10-foot cable is designed to plug into your reference stereo system for musical enjoyment at home. But understanding the increasing mobility of music, Denon has also included a 55-inch cable with in-line remote and microphone for use with an iPod® or iPhone®. It may seem like heresy to use such high-quality headphones to answer a phone call, but it can be done.

Real wood doesn't mean a lack of comfort with these headphones. The mahogany earcups are separated from your ears by Denon's soft, leather-covered memory foam ear pads. These pentagon-shaped earpads are designed to conform to the shape of your ear. Along with the adjustable leather-covered headband, they provide a relaxed, comfortable fit for hours of listening.

The Denon Audio app

While designed for home systems, the AH-D7100 headphones sound great with mobile music players as well. When listening to your Apple® or Android™ device, take advantage of the free Denon Audio app. This app features built-in graphic EQ, allowing you to tweak the sound of your headphones for different styles of music. Denon Audio also offers seamless music library integration and access to TuneIn® Radio's thousands of worldwide radio station streams for endless musical possibilities.

Amazing sound. I tried the Grado GS1000i headphones, and just didnt seem to have the power and richness of these. The fit and quality is all there. I am hearing sounds I never heard before. Pricey, but well worth it.

Pros: Sound quality is superb Comfortable Nice stand to store them on

Cons: The cords plug into the jacks on each earpiece. They are somewhat long resulting in hitting your shoulders with certain movement. Maybe a 90 degree angle or shorter plug would help.

These headphones are amazing. I have had them long enough for a decent break in period to transpire which I deliberately waited on before posting this review. Denon has put a lot of thought into the design and it's evident in how they perform and wear. The sound is crystal clear with all levels equally present. No instrument (or voice) overwhelms the rest. Everything is genuinely heard without one range masking another. The sound from these headphones truly approaches that of listening to high-end speakers in a room. The bass is strong without becoming muffled and delivers a punch when it is meant to. Highs are clean and never tinny. Mid-range is balanced. The overall experience definitely invokes a spacial "soundstage" quality.

Physically the headphones are very comfortable without any excess pressure. The ear cups are designed to fit the human ear and reduce dead space. When you remove your hands after putting them on, you can immediately hear the sound quality increase as they settle around your ears. I use them at work and listen to music for an hour or two at a time (sometimes much longer). My ears remain comfortable without getting hot like many phones I've had in the past. Since they are closed, I do feel a sensation of cooling when I remove them but never feel the urge to take them off until I'm finished using them.

They are worth every penny.

Pros: Extremely well made in every way (with detachable cables including a short version for use with mobile devices). The desktop stand is a nice accessory for taking care of them when not in use.

Cons: Not really a con but I will use this space to mention they do not come with a 1/4" to 3.5mm converter jack.
