When you want versatility

Denon's AVR-1913 has a lot going for it. Yes, you get magnificent home theater sound, including built-in decoding for the high-resolution soundtracks on today's Blu-ray movie titles. And your iPod® gets a great place to come out and play, with your library available either via wireless AirPlay® streaming or the convenient power-charging front-panel USB port. Plus you can access Internet radio and other online music services. Best of all, with this 7.1-channel receiver you get choices.

What can you do with the extra channels?

Traditional 5.1-channel surround sound home theater receivers are great at delivering an immersive experience. So why purchase a 7.1-channel receiver that comes with an extra pair of "back surround" channels? Nothing like hearing footsteps behind you right before a "zombie surprise." Or you can set up "height" speakers, so when that chopper lands, you can almost feel the rush of wind from the rotors. But you can also use those extra two channels to feed compatible, bi-ampable speakers what they crave — more amplifier power to give you greater clarity, definition, and dynamics. Or you can use them to drive a pair of speakers in a second zone instead. Listen to music on your kitchen speakers, while the kids are watching a movie in 5.1 in the family room.

3D-ready HDMI audio/video switching

The AVR-1913's HDMI inputs let you connect up to six high-definition sources for convenient switching, like a gaming console, Blu-ray player, HD cable box and more. With 3D Blu-ray compatibility, you're all set to enjoy today's films in your own home. Plus this receiver will upscale analog sources to 1080p. Analog-to-HDMI conversion gives you the convenience of sending the signal to your TV via HDMI, reducing cable clutter.

Give your iTunes® library a little AirPlay®

Apple's AirPlay technology lets you stream music from your iTunes® library directly to the receiver, either from a networked computer or right from your iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod touch®. Not only do you get a fast and convenient way to listen to your favorites, but anyone in your home can stream from their player to share their latest find. AirPlay requires a wireless home network and a wired connection between the receiver and network.

Turn your iPad® or Android™ into a remote

You may already hold in your hands an LCD touchscreen wireless remote control with easy-to-view buttons, intuitive controls, and fluid search functions. Thanks to Denon's free control app, your Apple® or Android device can double as a Wi-Fi® system remote. Requires a wireless home network.

Denon remote app

Denon's free app lets you use a number of devices as convenient, Wi-Fi® remote controls (iPad® not included).

Listen to music from all over the world

The AVR-1913 offers plentiful music options when you connect it to your broadband home network. Surf thousands of Internet radio stations from all over the globe. Or explore Pandora® Internet radio or Sirius/XM® Internet radio — services that put millions of songs at your fingertips (registration or subscription may be required). You can even view your favorite photos through the '1913 from compatible PCs on your home network or visit albums on Flickr using your HDTV.

Easy system and speaker setup

Audyssey microphone

Audyssey setup mic

The '1913 comes with a first-time setup wizard to help smooth occasional bumps in the path to getting your system up and running. Just connect the '1913 to your power source and TV, and you're off. It's even simpler than waving a magic wand. Plus the '1913 features Audyssey's MultEQ® auto setup technology to ensure that its settings are accurately calibrated to your specific room and speakers. Place the included microphone in up to 6 different listening positions throughout your room. The receiver analyzes test tones then automatically adjusts individual level, equalization, and delay settings for each of your speakers. You'll hear precise, uniform sound across a wide listening area instead of just a single "sweet spot," so everyone in the room can enjoy optimized home theater sound.

    Very Good Sound, but Difficult

Written By Eico, Richmond, VA on Sunday, January 12, 2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Audyssey on-screen quick set-up instructions were incomplete and resulted in terrible sound. Using the instructions in the owner's manual, I was able to get very good sound. The owner's manual is on a CD, not printed. It needs proof-reading by a native speaker of English. Most of the various sound modes appear to be useless and no description of them is provided. I simply used the default settings. The on-screen menus are complicated. Some do not indicate whether they are for video or audio. The video up-scaling feature is of no value. It even made VHS tapes worse.

    Pros: Very good sound.

    Cons: Complicated. Inadequate instructions.

    Options galore

This receiver has plenty of power, and it has tons of flexibility. I have this system connected to my media room speakers, as well as my patio speakers. The remote feature is very nice, and I love the auto speaker setup feature.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My Onkyo TX-NR608 started to die on the HDMI ports, so I decided to replace it with this Denon from a scratch and dent sale. What an improvement with the surround sound. I am still using my Onkyo speakers, but I now hear more sounds then ever before. I love the Network connectivity and the ability to use with my iPhone. I will definitely buy a Denon product again from Crutchfield. I love their support.

Pros: Network connectivity, Apple iPhone access,

    Cons: None found

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to upgrade from HTIB, to a real audio system and found all I wanted, including 7.1 channels, easy installation for a novice like me. Shipping was timely, and Crutchfield supplied and booklet of labels. At first I ingnored them but after 15 trips from back to front and plugging wrong HDMI cables in wrong spots I decided to label cords. A great Idea. It saved me so much time and will make it so much easier to add to system.

Pros: Great receiver at best price, loved the free labels they sent, plenty of info on how to reach customer service. have used for auto componets and never thought of checking for home systems, Some reviews knocked the lack of wi-fi, I had no problem running ethernet connection from next room and Air Play is great

    Cons: None

I am used to an amp with more power, but all other functions are great. Easy to use. I also love the 2nd room function for my outdoor speakers.I know it will last, I had a Denon amp for 15 years that is still going strong.

    Pros: Easy set up, functionality.

Cons: Not the strongest amp power wise.Still efficient.

    Denon AVR-1913

Written By MaddogMike, North Augusta, SC on Wednesday, May 29, 2013

I have read the 20 reviews since May 1, 2013, and I pretty much agree with everything everyone else has said. This is an awesome sounding AVR. I think some of the credit should go to the Audyssey speaker setup, which really does enhance the overall audio sound to the highest potential. You can actually enhance and more fully understand your overall audio output by visiting the Audyssey website, as I was clueless until reading the blog titled Large vs Small (or Small vs Large). It was a blog that answered so many of the ongoing questions I had concerning overall sound with an AVR that has the Audyssey setup. This is a good looking receiver, has 6 hdmi inputs (5 on the back and 1 on the front), and also has iTunes Airplay, which is a real plus to be able to use your iTunes wirelessly. I do have one significant concern and that is this receiver has already been discontinued, when, as I mentioned at the beginning, there had been 20 very positive reviews of this unit just within the past 30 days. By Denon discontinuing the AVR-1913, it could lead someone to believe there were issues with it causing them to replace it with a newer model when it is not very old to begin with. It concerns me having just purchased this unit within the past 6 months. With that being said, this unit has performed in an awesome manner for me.

Pros: Audyssey audio setup, iTunes Airplay, 6 hdmi inputs, network capability, easy to use remote, overall performance, very simple setup, 150 page manual available for download and printing.

Cons: A bit pricey, and the model being discontinued a little prematurely (in my opinion).

    Seriously Impressive

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a fantastic receiver!! I purchased this to replace a Marantz I bought in the late 90s, so I am used to having great sound; this machine far exceeded my expectations. With a full and crystal clear sound and great volume at a good price, you truly can't go wrong here. I am using this receiver with a Polk center speaker, and 4 PSB bookshelf speakers and subwoofer, and 12 gauge cable.

Pros: Sound quality and ease of setup.

    Cons: NONE!!

    So Far So Good

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have yet to take full advantage of the receiver's features, but so far I can't complain. The Audyssey on-screen set up requires an HDMI connection to your TV. If you don't have that you need to suffer through with the unit's screen and it doesn't necessarily provide you with enough info to troubleshoot. For instance, I ran into an error in the set up. If I had the on-screen menu I might know what the error was - I suspect it is a speaker polarity issue and if so, the on-screen would tell me which one - but without it I just had to exit the setup and leave it with factory settings. Haven't set up the network yet either, but looking forward to Airplay

Pros: Clean, simple design and interface

Cons: Need HDMI TV and Ethernet to take full advantage.

Owned a Denon AV previously and we were so impressed we bought another. This one is by far so much simpler to install and use and used in conjunction with Polk speakers, the sound is fantastic. Having the option to use as 2 zone gives flexibility for future use.

Crutchfield is an amazing team. They are so helpful. I called a couple of times and each time the team were responsive, friendly and extremely helpful.

I am running a 7 year old Sony Bravia, directv, new Samsung 3 D blue ray, and an old jbl 5.1 with a klipch subwoofer. This is the best home theater set up. This is perfect

Pros: Home theater has never sound so good. Pandora..iCloud, redbox wow

Cons: I now want to upgrade my tv and speakers.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was my first Denon, and my expectations were high. Problem 1: the right channel on the headphone jack is dead Problem 2:the TV speakers are off when the Denon is on. I couldn't find a way to activate the TV speakers. I use the TV speakers sometimes for the simplicity of using my Directv remote to change channels, and adjust the sound at the same time. I NEVER use TV speakers with my 7.1 Polk speaker system. This will cause some sarcastic comments from some experts, but I like the convenience of this option.

Pros: Auddessey makes setting up your speakers easy.

Cons: Even though I knew it had 5 HDMI inputs, the next receiver I buy will have at least 8.

    Big Step Up

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing is amazing, love the ability to be able to control the receiver from my iPhone with the Denon app. The setup is super easy, and love how you can setup the sound from multiple points of listening. The duel zone is awesome as well, I've always wanted a sonos system and this acts like it. You can listen to the game in the house and listen to Alt Nation outside (very cool).

Pros: This thing can be your center for any awesome home network system, you can stream any sorts of tunes to it from your iPhone, iPad or your network server. Sound quality is amazing, makes my regular speakers sound like a $500 system.

Cons: Was a little too tall for where I wanted to put it, but that's the only con I can come up with.

Great deal on a quality product

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Denon 1913 has 7.1 capabilities, and was very easy to install. I loved the microphone hook up to optimize the sound for the room my speakers are in, and i love the fact that it is very easy to set up with all of my devices. The video upconversion from component to HDMI is very nice for playing my XBOX on the plasma screen.

I gave it only 4 stars because every once in a while, the sound cuts to a low volume, then gradually increases back to where it was before. I'm sure this is a minor fix, as it has nothing to do with sound quality, but i havent figured it out yet.

I loved how quickly crutchfield shipped it, and for free also!

Pros: Easy to install, sleek and attractive looking, doesnt overheat in my small cabinet. The mobile remote app is really cool. having a front usb port is very convenient

Cons: Sound volume issue every once in a while

Cons: Pandora doesn't seem to be connecting

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this receiver on sale, at a good price, and free shipping. This receiver was easy to setup and has simple controls. Sound is very good and no problems so far. On running the setup with the microphone, I found that some of my speakers had been cross-wired. Connected it to my home network and installed an app on my android phone which can now control the receiver. Works great and love the sound.

Pros: Network access to all my media files, internet radio, and remote access. Microphone setup does a great job on balancing the speakers (all 7).

Cons: You have to connect to the internet to down load a firmware update. No wireless access to connect receiver to network. Had to run a network cable to connect to home network and internet. in my case it took 50 feet of cable. When I installed my receiver on the network there was a conflict with the IP address and I had to change the IP address manually. For some reason it replaced my internet router on the network, and would allow access to the internet from my other wireless devices.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound is crisp and clean, set up was very intuitive. Since my last receiver was an Onkyo TX 575 from the last century (just barely, but still from the last century) I can't say how much of the improvement in sound quality was the Denon versus improvement in receivers generally. However, I was (very pleasantly) surprised at the increased clarity in dialogue (for an aging boomer with hearing blasted by too many Who and Rolling Stones concerts 30 years ago).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just changed out from a Harman Kardon AVR-445. The Denon and the HK are worlds apart. For sound quality I have to give the nod to the HK. It is better with more option and choices for surround sound. The problem with that unit is it is prone to heat problems and is difficult to set up. You need a master degree to use many of the features. The Denon is a breeze and with separate inputs for all of the HDMI devices it makes setting up your entertainment system as easy as pushing a button.

Pros: Easy set up. Good sound. System runs cool inside of an enclosure

Cons: Wish it had more surround modes and options. When using FM I could not find a way to select a surround mode on the speakers in Music mode. Had to use Movie which distorts the sound somewhat.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Much here for a receiver that does the job in a medium sized room. 14X16. The sound was spacious and very clean. I prefer a detailed sound as I experienced with the Denon (as long as it's not too bright like some, ie: Harmon Kardon). Also this detailed sound from the Denon with more openness, is also preferred by me over a subdued warmer sounding unit such as the Yamaha. (I'll stay away from calling the Yamaha mushy however, I can't come up with a better word to describe it). All in all if your driving a fairly efficient 5.1 system the Denon will do the trick.. My experience with Crutchfield has been nothing but all good. The techs are there to help you and will take the time with you on the phone. I worked with Brian who was a joy to talk with and extremely knowledgeable. Thank You Crutchfield for being there.

Pros: Very easy to install and on screen user friendly instructions. Audessey sound mic/set up wonderful addition.

Cons: Instruction manual on DVD ..... but understandable ..... it is 154 pages long.

I have been a long time Denon user, this actually upgraded my AVR-1910. I wanted the iPhone app and AirPlay which my 1910 did not support. This recevier has a great new look, very streamlined. Setup is much easier and the onscreen UI is very easy to use.

Pros: Great setup, great UI, excellent sound

Cons: They changed the volume display with the new 3 series. So if you have any older models they will be different.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Picked the Denon AVR-1913 for use in a 600 sq ft great room. Powering a pair of Polk RTi A1 bookshelf speakers, pair of in-ceiling Polk MC60s, subwoofer, and utilizing a second zone with a pair of outdoor Polk Atrium 4s. Went with the Denon over a couple Yamaha receivers on the advice of the Crutchfield team because we couldn't justify the price jump for similar product attributes. VERY happy with the decision. Delivering great video and sound for normal TV watching, movies, Blu-Ray, Pandora, and iTunes AirPlay. No problems to speak of and no complaints regarding the on-screen GUI mentioned in other reviews. Using the Denon remote app on an iPad Mini and Android Galaxy Nexus when in Zone 2 outside...simple and efficient. The 1913 definitely gets my stamp of approval and provides superior value for the price.

    Pros: All of it

    Cons: None

Had an HDMI issue with the first receiver that shipped. Getting the RGA and the new receiver couldn't have been easier, the tech I spoke with Lloyd did a great job and I will definitely buy from Crutchfield again. The unit itself sounds great with the polk speakers that I have and makes watching movies and TV better. Setup was relatively easy and was done quickly. Upgrading from an old 5.1 Sony ES receiver and the sound is better than expected.

Pros: Airplay, 2nd zone operation price.

Cons: HDMI issue with pass through and static on video.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I own the AVR-1911 and just purchased this AVR-1913 for my father-in-law. The Denon 1900-series receiver is great for anyone that wants to be a step beyond the entry level in home theater entertainment and may want to upgrade speakers and components over time. This has everything you'll need including 3D, 7.1, Apple AirPlay, plenty of power, and super easy setup. Can't beat the quality and built-in features for the price! (Bought both the 1911 and 1913 after holiday season rush for $399 through Crutchfield's blowout sale)

The big advantages the 1913 has over the 1911: -Apple AirPlay (very convenient for iPhone and iPad users), though the remote controller app isn't quite as good as I had hoped -HDMI input on the front of the receiver, additional HDMI input on back -improved interface when viewing display on TV -improved online and networking features including Pandora

Pros: -Audyssey auto setup with included microphone is super easy and produces a fantastic result, even for the most discriminating ears -Set up once and never have to touch it again (great for the in-law situation where they just want it to work) -Plenty of power -7.1 allows for lots of configuration options (e.g., 5.1 + Zone 2 Stereo, 5.1 + Height L/R, full 7.1, 5.1 + bi-amp L/R)

Cons: -No option for manual adjustment of bass or treble (comparable Yamaha receivers allow you to adjust bass and treble for the system as a whole or down to each individual speaker) -Interface for Apple products not as smooth as I would prefer, but a definite improvement over the 1911 (best way to get around this is to have music organized into playlists so you don't have to browse using slow interface) -No option to duplicate stereo sound through all 7 speakers AND the sub at the same time -No W

Denon AVR-1913: Great Value and Performance

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Key features that led me to this AVR over a comparable Yamaha and Onkyo were: 1. the front side USB/iPod, HDMI, and RCA connections, 2.Video Up-conversion to HDMI, 3.'Soft' Capabilities. The Soft capabilities I mentioned include the ability to control this device from my phone over my home WiFi, the ability to rename and reconfigure different inputs, and speaker outputs, zones, and the on-screen menu operability. This device, for the price has the sound you expect from the Denon line, however because of the improved setup on this unit, the true sound I am getting is much better - the device configured itself for my room and did a much better job than I did on my previous receiver. Sound quality and really nice capabilities make this a great value at even market price. I definitely recommend it.

Pros: Sound, capabilities, and price. The banana/screw type connections for speakers are solid and nice. Also, the remote control is improved and very easy to use.

    Cons: none so far.

Love denon products all around, fantastic sound quality and fairly reliable. This receiver is great except it lacks wifi connectivity.

    Pros: Sound quality, reliability

Cons: No wifi connectivity. Needs an Ethernet connection

This receiver is a huge step up from the old 5.1 receiver that I had. I really like the on screen options menu, where you can control all aspects of the receiver. The network capabilities are really awesome! This reciever also makes me small JBL speakers sound like grizzly bears. The sound this thing pumps out is wicked, its crisp, clear, and smooth.

Pros: Great Sound, Great Price, Network Features, On Screen Guide, App, Plenty of Ports.

Cons: Not as intuitive as my Yamaha was, but you pick it up pretty quick.

I've had this about a week now; it replaced a five-year-old Onkyo TX-SR706. The Onkyo was pretty dicey with 1080p, and in general was complex to configure. The Denon is a piece of cake - simple, straightforward, easy to use, and both picture and sound are excellent. I've yet to try the iPhone-based remote and AirPlay, but these aren't really important to me - it's all about the audio and video, and ease-of-use, and, in all these respects, you can't go wrong here! And, of course, as always, great service and value from Crutchfield!

Pros: Excellent video and audio; easy to use

    Cons: None.

Only giving this a 4-star because I sometimes get a black screen on my TV but still hear sound. This lasts for about 3-4 seconds while I am watching something, it is quite frustrating. Thinking of sending the unit back, but that is also a PITA for me. Going to check my connections and use the unit a little bit longer before I decide to send it back. Apart from that its a pretty awesome unit, love the sound, the easy setup process, the simple sound options. Cool that I can control it from my iPhone. Some things I didn't like about it: - Big click when it goes on or off. - Some picture noise during it's black screen setup steps. - Takes too long between input types. - When changing channels on TV, volume goes low and then high. Real PITA.

Its better than what I had previously, but my old Yamaha unit also never did the things mentioned above.

The Denon AVR-1913 is good, just not perfect.

Pros: - Looks cool - Decent remote - iPhone app (although app kind of sucks, it still works) - Setup is awesome - Simple options for sound - Auto detects type of sound needed for each input.

Cons: - Big click when it goes on or off. - Some picture noise during it's black screen setup steps. - Takes too long between input types. - When changing channels on TV, volume goes low and then high. Real PITA.

Great receiver for the price. Easy set up and only called Crutchfirld tech support once to confirm a connection. Worth buying it here just for the great tech support! Previously had a 15 year old Denon receiver that originally cost $2000....this is so much easier to set up with HDMI cable. Remote is simple to use and great sound from my speakers. Can't go wrong with this. Receiver. Also..stunning 3D through the receiver.

Pros: Great price & delivers great sound.

    Cons: Haven't found any

Disappointed. Nice receiver but had issues. Picture would freeze for 10-15 seconds, occasional pixelation, in CBL/SAT mode. Audio would also go quiet. Video issues seem to be a common complaint with Denon receivers. Hard to find a solid a/v receiver.

    Pros: Nice features.

Cons: Problems with video. Could really use a printed manual.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I up-graded from the Onkyo 5.1 for two reasons. I wanted 7.1 surround and the HDMI capabilities. The Crutchfiled team advised me to try the Denon and I'm very impressed so far. It was very easy to set up with the on screen instructions. And, it was very easy to hook everything up and actually it surprised me how easy it was compaired to the old Onkyo. I was pleased with the Onkyo reciever, but it was dated and complicated. I purchased some Polk-Audio in-wall speakers to complete my surround system and it really rocks! This Denon offers a lot of bang for the price.

Pros: Free shipping and 2nd day delivery.

    Cons: None

Great Upgrade to my Onkyo SR605

Written By Chicodecali, Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday, April 10, 2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I only upgraded from my Onkyo because I wanted 3D. I thought there wouldn't be any appreciable improvement in sound quality since it seems I only got the Onkyo a couple years ago and it was highly rated. Wow, was I wrong! Everything about the sound with this receiver is better. Overall the sound is much tighter and cleaner. I can play everything louder without it getting muddy. Channel separation is MUCH better. I am hearing things I never heard before. Bass response is also much improved. I am FEELING it now as well as hearing it. Setup was easy. My only hiccup was not doing a firmware upgrade before setting up everything and having a little bit of trouble getting the Denon to recognize my Blu-Ray player after. A couple restarts and cable swaps did the trick though. I did a lot of research and this unit looks like it was the best deal for the money, especially for an airplay capable receiver. I thought that a lack of wifi was a minus but I got a powerline adapter and had it connected to my network in less than 5 minutes. My setup is Polk RTi70 mains, CSI 40 center, RC65i (4) surrounds, and SVS 20-39 sub.

Pros: great clean sound, easy setup, excellent value

Cons: none at this price point

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The home theatre unit is excellent and so much much better than the prosaic stereo receiver with a DVD player hook up to it. The low frequencies make the floor shake and a few times, the "surround sound" like quality had me looking behind me to see if someone was there!
