As technology rapidly changes, we're always adopting newer, better formats for music and movies. The Denon AVR-S900W allows you to enjoy the latest and greatest in audio and video with stunning sound and picture quality. This 4K-compatible receiver is not only ready for Ultra HD TVs, but it can also upscale your old DVDs to 4K. All your digital music files — from MP3s to high-resolution FLAC downloads — will sound clear and full. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth mean you can play those files wirelessly from your smartphone or computer. With 7.2 channels of thrilling surround sound pumping into your speakers, you'll be able to make the most of all your favorite music, movies, and TV shows.
If you've invested at all in Apple's ecosystem — whether it be an iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch®, or iTunes® on your computer — the AVR-S900W is a great match for you. Apple AirPlay makes this receiver an instant Apple-friendly receiver, so you can stream your digital tunes from these devices for wireless playback through your home theater speakers. There's also a front-panel USB port for plugging in your iPod, iPhone, or a USB memory device.
The free Denon Remote app for Apple, Android, and Kindle Fire lets you control the receiver with your smartphone or tablet.
The 'S900W isn't just for Apple fanatics. DLNA-compatibility lets you stream music from a Windows computer or music server. Plus, you can listen to Pandora, SiriusXM, or free Internet radio streams using the receiver's remote and the full-color on-screen guide. If you're a Spotify premium subscriber, use the Spotify app on your smartphone or tablet to stream the popular music service's entire library through your receiver. Whether you're an Apple, Android™, or even a Kindle Fire user, you can control the receiver's primary functions with the free Denon Remote app.
There are outputs for seven speakers on the 'S900's back panel. You can connect all seven speakers in your main listening room for spacious, enveloping 7-channel home theater sound. Or, assign the surround back channels to a second room. That means you can connect an extra pair of stereo speakers in another room like a kitchen, bedroom, or out on a patio. Then, you can simultaneously listen to music in a second room while a movie plays in 5.2-channel surround sound in the main zone. Also, there's a second HDMI output for connecting another TV. Connect your second display in the kitchen so you can keep one eye on the movie or ballgame while you'r making dinner or grabbing a snack. Or, use it to connect a projector and TV in the same room.
Denon wants you to get this receiver up and running quickly, so you can start enjoying it. That's why they developed their setup assistant. It's a step-by-step guide for connecting your speakers and components. Just follow the easy on-screen instructions and you'll be enjoying your system before you know it. The setup assistant also employs Audyssey room calibration, which uses an included microphone to optimize your speakers for your specific room and setup. This ensures you get the best possible sound from your system.
Your receiver powers your speakers and lets you connect and select your entertainment sources. But a great receiver does a lot more it ignites your emotions. From the passion of a favorite musical artist, to the crossfire of a super-charged movie soundtrack, to the intensity and immersion of a fast-paced video game, your receiver is the key to experiencing and enjoying it in full.
Unit has met my expectations. Delivers excellent image and sound with plenty of future proof options (wifi / bluetooth / ARC). Zero complaints and flawless execution.
The receiver will not turn on after just over 60 days of use. I've used the receiver maybe 20 times. Crutchfield will not take it back. So I am done with Crutchfield also. Here's an option, Crutchfield takes it back and returns it to the manufacturer. Credit my account and I will buy something else. Happy customer. Instead they just lost a customer. Who knows, maybe I need speakers and a tv.
Cons:Crutchfield response on October 14, 2015 Thanks for your review. We're sorry that your receiver is not working. While the purchase is outside of our 60 day return policy, it is still within Denon's warranty period.
Denon not was it was
I have had the receiver for about 1 1/2 months and it has performed as advertised. It replaced a 20yr old Onkyo A/V receiver whose multi-channel processor quit working. Its set up as a 5.1 system and I use the two other channels to drive a pair of outdoor patio speakers. I've used and tested out most of the features of the receiver. Wifi works well for the internet radio. My only complaint so far, which I consider minor, is the menus are a little confusing. It may take a few tries to find the right menu to make adjustments. My old receiver did not have the audio calibration capability so this is nice feature on the Denon. The sound is good after the calibration.
Pros: Works as advertised. Good sound. Zone 2 capability.
Cons: menus a little confusing
I've had this unit up and running for about few week and so far its been excellent. The set up was easy, using HDMI to my TV and speaker calibration was smooth. The sound quality is great. The 2nd Zone is a real plus and allowed me to run outside speakers on our patio. I bought this unit after a recommendation from one of the Crutchfield team members and am very glad I took his advice!
Pros: Lots of flexibility, two zone capacity allowed me two have indoor and outdoor music from one device.
Cons: Denon provides minimal written installation instructions. Without the Crutchfield tech team setup could have been very frustrating.
I ordered two Denon AVR S900W for my home. One is pumping music to outdoor speakers in a pool/patio setting and the other is hooked up to both my surround sound TV system as well as my in-ceiling speakers situated throughout my home (using two Zones separately). The receiver has more than enough capacity to power the outside speakers. In the latter application the Denon is more than able to handle the large number of speakers for both systems and I get excellent sound quality. Setup was very straightforward overall and when I did need help to make sure I set the Zones up properly the Crutchfield Technical Support was fantastic. They walked me patiently through the options and help me choose the setup configuration I preferred. I also got them to give me a tutorial on how to set up the streaming function using my IPhone. First-class customer support as I have experienced in the past with Crutchfield.
Pros: Lots of flexibility, two zone capacity and capable of feeding multiple systems robustly.
Cons: Denon provides minimal installation instructions and so the Crutchfield technical team is key.
Ive only had this unit for a few weeks but so far its been great. The set up was very easy, using hdmi, and speaker calibration was smooth. The sound quality is great and the surround modes work well. The 2nd Zone is great. The bluetooth and xm didnt work properly until there was an update the next day. Now all is great.
Pros: Sound, surround modes, bluetooth, XM radio
Cons: nothing yet
Just received the receiver a few weeks ago and, once again, I am pleased with my purchase. This is now my 3rd Denon receiver, all of which were purchased over the past 14 years through Crutchfield. Since I was already familiar with Denon the set-up process was a breeze. The remote is basic, but I find the simplicity of options to be a plus, especially when making sound adjustments at the beginning of a movie. For the amount of watts/channel and the features built into the amp, I found it was the best choice compared to other brands in the same price range.
Pros: Features! Built in Wifi, the number of inputs and AirPlay. Easy setup. Intuitive remote control
Replacement for over 10 yr. old Denon AVR receiver. Was attracted to the wireless connectivity (Bluetooth, online music, Internet radio, etc.) and numerous HDMI inputs, which the older receiver obviously did not have. After downloading upgrade software to the receiver just two days ago, everything works beautifully. Extremely pleased with this receiver. Also cost about 1/2 as much as the older receiver.
Pros: Features of HDMI inputs, & AirPlay, Bluetooth, and Online music (notably Pandora); iPod/USB input allowing recharging of unit when connected; easy setup; user-friendly remote control
Cons: None, at this time. Might be improved with additional power inputs for all units connected to the receiver, such as blu-Ray/cd player, TV, powered subwoofer, and cable box.
Item received on time and in good condition.
After an easy set up, (We've been using this to replace an older Sony ES receiver) this unit seems to perform very well. The speaker calibration routine does take some time but was well worth it as all of our speakers sound much better now. I recommend this.
Pros: Easy set up, quick shipping as always!, Integrates well with other brands ( ie, Panasonic Plasma, Sony blu-ray etc. ), Excellent connectivity options with this one.
Cons: none so far.
Replaced my "old" Denon AVR-2105 receiver (no HDMI) with the AVR-S900W. All I can say is Wow! Easy to install - replaced 5 component cable sets & 2 toslink cables with just 1 HDMI in my in-wall setup. Super easy! Everything worked perfectly the first time. The wireless & Airplay capabilities are invaluable to me. Haven't needed Bluetooth yet. Sound with my Klipsch speakers is awesome. Using with a Sony 4K/3D TV ... seems like the perfect electronic marriage. The Crutchfield folks have been fantastic to work with before and after the sale. Remote that came with the receiver was DOA but a quick call to Crutchfield & a new remote should arrive in a couple of days - luckily my old Denon remote worked with the new receiver so I set everything up using it in about 10 minutes (including the fantastic Audessey speaker calibration).
Pros: Easy to set up Great sound Factory presets are ideal (for me) Crutchfield team members
I ordered the Denon AVR-S900W to replace a 2+ yr old Onkyo AV receiver that had simply stopped producing audio output all of a sudden. Delivery was delayed by one day due to bad weather on the East Coast, so by the time the receiver was delivered today I was anxious to get it set up and hear how it sounded. I have a large great room with a 5.1 speaker set up (front and rear are mounted in the ceiling, center under the TV on top of the audio cabinet and powered sub in the right front corner of the room), plus 2 speakers (zone 2) on my back porch. I unpacked the Denon receiver and got it all hooked up in less than an hour. I followed the setup instructions in the QuickStart guide and the setup assistant and setup and configuration (including the speaker calibration) were a snap. After setup was done, I quickly figured out how to stream music off my DLNA-compliant NAS device, and the receiver was then ready for its first test. My go-to song for situations like this is "Enter Sandman". I cranked up the volume to about 70 (out of 98), and the result was nothing short of a religious experience :). The sound quality was better than I remembered from my Onkyo. Even with the loud instrumentals, I could clearly hear the lyrics. Just phenomenal sound. Couldn't be happier with the purchase. Hopefully, the Denon will be more reliable than the Onkyo was :)
Pros: Phenomenal sound in a large great room. Easy setup and config. Intuitive remote. Decent mobile app.
Cons: Max volume of zone 2 doesn't seem to be quite high enough, but still acceptable
I really like this item. I can control what is playing and the volume from my iPhone. I run Klipsch reference speakers which are very efficient and the sound is great. Not sure if this unit is underpowered because I have a small house so the sound is enough for me. I always think more power is better but again I am in a small house. The setup was easy and the microphone that was included allowed perfect volume adjustment. It sounds like a movie theater when I am running a blu-ray dvd.
Pros: included calibration microphone and easy setup. Clean sound.
Cons: None so far
After a couple of weeks I am very pleased with this receiver. The directions could use a bit of work when it comes to selecting sound modes and which mode sticks with a profile. There are soooo many options it's hard to decipher which to select when. The back panel is very well labeled and once you get everything tweaked to your preference operation is simple.
Pros: Sufficient power to tock off the neighbors and mixing a 505 12" & 125 8" sub worked great.
Cons: I wish it had a backlit remote......who listens to Pink Floyd with all of the lights on?!?!?
I bought this product to replace my 17 year old Harmon Kardon unit. Clearly it was out dated. I was attracted to Denon because of it's reputation. So, I chose this one due to price and features. The features are great and the HDMI, WIFI features are the reason I am keeping it. Frankly, the sound quality of this unit doesn't compare to the one it replaced. It sounds "muddy" compared to the crisp, clear sound of the Harmon Kardon. Next time I will not shop online until I have listened in person.
Pros: Easy setup and feature rich.
Cons: Not as clean sounding as the unit it replaced.
I bought this from the open box list and everything showed up looking like it was straight from the factory. All the original wrappings and the batteries for the remote still in plastic. Have played around with this as the main unit for an Optoma projector. Source is a NeoTV Prime passing through DirecTV. Auto sound detection with HDMI when using DirecTV is perfect. Auto sound does not work with my NeoTV when playing movies but that may be a setting on the NeoTV and not the receiver. I especially enjoy the phone app but prefer the web interface even when on my phone as I can get to every option. I don't use the remote as this unit sits in a separate room from the theater.
Pros: Easy setup, sound is great. Good internet radio options with quick setup. Very good web interface, if there is an option I cannot get to through it I haven't found it yet. (E.G. adjust bass level, graphic EQ, change audio mode, etc.)
Cons: Have not found a major one yet. I would like more options in the mobile phone remote but with the web interface being well written I just use that instead.
This receiver was easy to set up with step by step instructions on screen. I love the airplay and spotify connectivity. The zone 2 set up was really easy and my knowledge of AV equipment is pretty limited. All you had to do is plug in the speakers to the 6 and 7th channels and you're good to go. The receiver is already set up to use those channels as zone 2 if you want. I can listen to either music in both zones or music in one zone with TV in another zone. I love this receiver. I had a few issues with the remote app, but overall it works 98.5% of the time. Totally worth the investment. I have a hard time leaving my living room now because the music sounds so good! I paired my receiver with Polk audio TSx110B bookshelf speakers and I couldn't be happier with my set up.
Pros: easy to set up. zone 2 connectivity is great. lots of really good extra features (internet radio built in, airplay)
Cons: sometimes (very rarely lately) the remote app won't work, but this hasn't happened recently.
The shipment was very fast and doubled boxed. The reciever is very easy to set up and was up and running in 15 minutes. The processor works fast and doesn't lag between functions. The dual zone works great if you have a second room or patio speakers. The Denon app is great for control.
Pros: Easy setup, great for mid level
Great product. I really like the dual zone feature. I also like the pass through feature. It was easy to set up and works great with my Polk speakers.
Pros: Fair price. Product looks solid. Denon app works great. Dual zone is awesome.
Cons: Nothing so far.
Denon AVR-S900W setup and performed as specified / designed. The receiver was a little slow performing it's Firmware updates. Alsothere is no software function to clear Bluetooth paired memory without resetting the entire receiver.
Pros: Deliver's as specified / designed.
Cons: Needs a software function added to firm to clear the Bluetooth paired memory without resetting the entire receiver
For almost 20 years (or more... I think...) I had been using a Pioneer VSX-511SX with an ancient Bose Home Theater Series 7. It still sounds good after all these years, but it doesn't do anything cool and convenient . Hence, I seriously needed a replacement. This Denon is an amazing product. Using the Quick Start Guide it only took me 3 minutes to program, after hooking up my ancient Bose speakers (minus the sub - need to replace that old guy). I plugged my iPod into the front of it and started rocking my favorite playlists. Later, when I had more time, I went back and used the CD in my laptop and used the microphone that comes from the manufacture to dial in the surround system. It was easy and I didn't care that a big, paper user's manual didn't come with it. I don't need more piles of paper user manuals laying around, and I'm sure that most other people don't need that kind of mess either. The easy Quick Start Guide set up using my TV screen made a difference in my life. I am very busy and don't have time to read through a stack of paper and set up a system.
I am not an audiophile, but I can distinguish between good, better and great sound. This receiver delivers great sound through my ancient Bose speakers. This receiver does what I need it to and then some.
Pros: Easy set up. Lots of surround modes to play with. USB and HDMI port on the front panel for quick connection to your iPod and laptop.
Cons: It's heavy and tall, so make sure you're AV furniture can accommodate it. I had to create a custom hardwood rack for inside of my existing built in cabinets to allow proper spacing between components.
Fantastic system, my boys and I love it!
Ordered my receiver on 12/29/2014 and received it here in Florida on 01/02/2015. Spent Saturday hooking it up to my system. Followed quick setup instructions and although it took some time, everything is working just fine. I ran an ethernet cable from my ATT U-Verse modem to the AVR-S900W and connected right away, ran the HDMI cable I purchased from Crutchfield from the receiver to the back of my Samsung television and then one from the receiver to the ATT U-Verse cable box. Everything connected fine and communicated perfectly. ATT U-Verse remote control was synced with the AVR-S900w with no problem and now I can control both the U-Verse cable box and the receiver, shutting both off at the same time and turning them on at the same time. Still tweeking the receiver but so far all I can say is WOW. My previous receiver was a Kenwood about 15 years old and this unit provides excellent sound and all the bells and whistles. Haven't used the Airplay yet, but did go thought and load a bunch of internet radio stations and I'm just amazed! My speakers are Difinitive Technology brand and the system powers them just fine.
Pros: Plenty of power, lots of functions. About anything you could want in a receiver
Cons: So far don't really have any, but maybe the fact that there is no printed manual in the box, only a CD which unless you have your lap top in the room where you are setting up the system, is not really useful.
The product arrived fast and packaging was very good. Unfortunately there was a miscommunication between the sales person and I and turned out I needed the "in command" unit, which is a great product. The customer service rep was awesome they took back the 900w and sent me the correct one right away. Customer service was great! - 4 stars for customer service took 1 star off for sales person miscomm.
Hooked this receiver up to a Def Tech ProCinema 800 HT system. Speakers sound great and setup was very easy. However, within 24 hours the receiver has totally locked up 3 different times. Contacted Crutchfield and they are returning it without any hassle. Trying an Onkyo next.
Pros: Sounds great. Easy to setup.
Cons: Locks up and have to unplug it from the wall to reset.
After much research decided on the Denon S900W based on value and features. Setup essentially foolproof with online setup assistant that walks you through and verifies the procedures are correct. At first sound seemed "hollow" with overwhelming bass. However, after performing the Odyssey calibration (which I omitted during the setup due to system accessibility), sound is simply amazing. Balanced and crisp.
Online radio streaming flawless on DSL connection. Pass-by feature works perfectly when surround not desired with automatic transfer to standard TV speakers.
Sufficient input/output options for connection. System inputs consist of H-K DVD, Yamaha CD, XBox One and Apple IPhone 5S/6 Plus. Output to Panasonic 55" LED TV and Polk Audio 5-speaker surround sound system. All seemless integration. Only setup recommendation.... Use Bananaplugs for speaker connections as the posts do not afford the opportunity for heavy gauge speaker wire.
Two zone output will allow integration of future wireless outdoor setup for our patio/deck.
Waiting to download the Denon App for Apple products as the reviews have documented some glitches afterwards
Pros: Excellent sound quality Value Odyssey sound calibration Ease of setup with online/screen instruction and verification Input/output flexibility Passby operation when not in use Excellent support from Crutchfield during and available for lifetime support
Cons: Speaker connections a bit bit flimsy Denon App for Apple products may be problematic.
This is a good all round middle of the road AVR. If you are on a budget but still want all the bells and whistles this might be what your looking for. I have used the Bluetooth and wireless features and it's a handy supplement to the other usual inputs to an AVR. I have only used it for three weeks or so but I'm sure it will be a good replacement for my16 year old Denon that was the workhorse of my sound system. I like that I can control the unit from my ipad and PC, and the 8 HDMI inputs should be enough for most normal home sound systems. I'm using one of the optical inputs to provide 5.1 surround sound or 5 channel audio from a TV when watching movies. This unit is exactly what I was looking for...
Pros: -good price -lots of HDMI inputs -internet connectivity -Bluetooth connectivity -easy to set up -flexible inputs -great warrantee
Cons: -90 watts/channel, some might want 120 -just a little "plasticy" compared to the older Denons
This unit has everything I was looking for. The WIFI and Bluetooth options were important to me and these work really well. I can now listen to music from around the house with Bluetooth or the world with the internet radio with the click of a button.
Pros: Easy to setup Looks nice Connects to anything that has music. Sounds great through my Mirage and JBL speakers
Cons: Slight issue with the unit locking up. Crutchfield set me a new one quickly and I have had no issues since.
Does some amazing things! Still learning!
Pros: More complicated than any receiver i have ever had but figuring it out!
I bought this unit because of its features and value. I read other reviews and that clinched it. However, upon installing it, I found several bumps in the road. The automated setup worked pretty well, but the extra 'rear' channel was not described well when used as a 'zone 2' speaker set.The setup for zone 2 was almost non-existent. Took some trial and error to get it to work, still don't fully understand why I can't share an input with the main zone. Being new to the later amps, I am still awed by the total segregation of the two zones and their respective power controls. You just have to figure out what works and what doesn't, when configuring your inputs and zones. The surround performance and sound quality is very good, with almost unlimited tweaking capabilities. Not for the faint of heart or non-techy.
Pros: Great sound, plenty of power. Able to personalize settings.
Cons: Difficult to trouble shoot problems with inputs not working with some outputs. Getting settings set wrong, then wondering why the TV does not have any sound when the amp is off.
Arrived very quickly from Crutchfield, (as always) Extremely easy to setup and configure. Great
Pros: Great Sound Easy Set Up Great features
I recently purchased the XBR-65X850B Sony 4k TV and the Sony 3D/4K blue-ray player. I wanted to upgrade my sound and with the help of the Crutchfield sales and tech support picked the Denon AVR-S900W home theater. I was using a Yamaha home theater unit for about 8 years. It had a great sound but not good enough. This Denon has taken my viewing and listening pleasure to a whole new level. I purchased additional Bose Cubes to fill out the already outstanding sound I have from the Bose Acoustimas 7.1 system. Now I have 7.2 and what a thrill it is. All the old DVD's I have I am watching again with increased visual and now an expanded sound that I have never heard unless I went to an expensive Movie theater. This Denon is sensational. It is easy to set up, tune in to your ear and the on screen setup for speaker placement and channel volume is outstanding. I had a few issues with the scaling through the Denon but calling the tech center of Crutchfield took car of that in one minute. I have recommend this unit to many of my friends now looking to replace their current system. I have them over and they are blown away. The richness of the sound and the 7.2 surround sound separation puts you right in the action.
Pros: Sound quality is sensational, Ease of set up. The pass through feature and scaling function works great (HDMI). It is a very smart system and detects all changes to devies use to interface and play through. WIFI and Casting feature is outstanding.
Cons: A little clearer definition of terms and what each setting effects would be nice. Other than that small issue. None to speak of!.
I have heard lots of good about denon, I owned a onkyo before but the denon far exceeds it. great sound and excellent price
Very nice receiver and numerous functions all in one piece of equipment.
Cons: Miss having a paper version of an Owners Manual.
Very user friendly we tried a Yamaha Adventage, which turned out to be defective and also very difficult To set up. This Denon is a great receiver for anyone who wants a wifi, AirPlay setup
Pros: Connected to my wireless internet easily and also connected to our iPhones and iPads effortlessly
Cons: Too many steps to play zone 2 a minor inconvenience I miss the old A B setup when having two zones, but the new receivers do not offer this.
This is only the third receiver I've purchased in 20 years. That's because is shop them to death before buying to be sure it's what I want. This Denon is a keeper. I'm very impressed with the I/O available. Built in WiFi is incredible for streaming audio without another gadget. I was puzzled by the power ratings from all the literature. Upon hooking it all up to the same speakers I've had for years, I was underwhelmed with the output though. That was until I ran the Audyssey calibration - BAM! It's like the power doubled!. On screen overlay for all the settings is really nicely done.
Pros: Airplay, built-in Wi-Fi, HDMI switching and passthru
Cons: HDMI pass thru seems limited to one input,
The first receiver had to be replaced due to locking up and losing set-up info. The replacement is working fine but I have not tweeked its settings yet. installation went fine. Crutchfield Tech Support and its order handling group are AWESOME. I have Uverse and did not know until it was too late that the Denon receiver cannot be controlled by the Uverse remote. For me this is not a big thing, HOWEVER, my wife cannot handle multiple remotes (Denon and Uverse). Had I known this I probably would no have gotten this receiver. Having said this, I do not know what receiver I would have gotten since I would have had to do more research and used a different set of questions/parameters. In no way am I a techni-phobe. I am in my 70's and I just want to be able to hear the dialogue of the TV programs. I have Definitive speakers and sub-woofer (800's and 1000). The dialogue for most of the TV programs have improved but not as much as I hoped.
Pros: Easy to install. Simplified wiring issues. Great wiring instructions.
Cons: Incompatible with the Uverse remote. Spent numerous hours trying, testing and on the phone to resolve this. But - no luck. Made wife a little testy.
Great Receiver! Works perfectly. Amazing sound and looks great! Customer Service was outstanding! First received a unit that was not working properly. The Crutchfield Support team diagnosed the problem quickly and sent out a replacement unit. New unit works like a charm. The number of HDMI Inputs is incredible. Its amazing the number of cables you reduce by going to a single HDMI output. Video and audio is crisp and clear. I love this receiver.
Pros: Number of inputs Easy setup
There are a lot of new features that I like on this receiver compared to my old Onkyo. This one doesn't have as much power as I thought it would. When I max out the volume it sounds a little distorted (and I can still stay in the room with it ; with my old one I couldn't ever reach the max volume before having to turn it down and there was no distortion.) I like the Wi-Fi capability & the smart phone app.
Pros: Wi-Fi; smart app; good sound at normal listening levels; good clear HDMI output; setup & speaker calibration is pretty easy.
Cons: not enough power; distortion at higher levels
This is an awesome highly advanced a/v reciever. I have had this unit for two weeks and am still learning all its features, I have this unit teamed with a klipsch icon speakers all around, sound quality is clean clear and loud! I would say this unit is literally a great bang for your buck.
Pros: Amout of himi imputs, quality, ease of setup and offering the total package as the centerpiece of your home theater
Cons: Had a firmware issue when reciever said it was required, did not want to properly download. But Denon's customers service was excellent and had me up and running in 30 minutes.
Denon has enjoyed a great reputation for many, many years --- and deservedly so. This AVR is reasonably priced, and is equipped with all the bells and whistles for superb home theater entertainment. It processes all of the latest formats--4K, 3D and regular Blu-Ray, DVD, CD's and more. The added bonus is that since it is married to your internet account. you can obtain updates with the latest tech innovations to keep your home theater experience current with the new technology. This is a superb piece of equipment at a very reasonable price.
Pros: Superb 7.1 sound. Processes all of the latest formats for sound and picture.
Cons: a bit cumbersome to go thru the setup with the internet and your other UHD equipment, but with a little patience it can be done in a reasonable amount of time, and the results are really worth the effort.
Beyond the complaint below, I really do like this receiver. Hopefully they will address the issue in an upcoming firmware release, at which point I would give it a solid 5 stars.
Pros: The smartphone app is great as I can control the receiver from anywhere in my house (volume, tuner, station, playlist, Pandora, etc...). Simple setup/config.
Cons: The biggest frustration I do have is that when we have tuner, Pandora, etc.. playing in zone 2 which we have on constantly for our whole house audio, when you turn on Main Zone the source will not play on the main zone until you turn off both zones then turn Main zone back on. I just spent 20mins on the phone with Denon support and they assured me it's not a bug, it's just how things work. That maybe how it was designed, but from customer view, it's a poor experience.
Great receiver, Works exactly like it should. This receiver replaced a 5 year old Yamaha receiver that still works. The problem with my other receiver, whether it was just me that didn't hook it up correctly is that it just never did exactly what I wanted it to do like playing a movie. The Denon receiver and its guided installation program worked great and I am seriously considering replacing my 10 year old Pioneer Elite receiver in the basement with one from Denon. It just works exactly as it should, all the time and sounds great, I highly recommend this item.
Pros: Very easy to set up, sounds great.
Cons: None so far.
Denon makes a good receiver. This is the second Denon for me and this one has some great features for doing the set up. Just attach the receiver to the TV (monitor) and the built-in CPU leads the user through the installation of all the input devices. Probably will do the same for the speakers, but I didn't use it. Already had the speakers in place. Denon provides a microphone for the receiver that the receiver CPU uses to calibrate the speaker system and I used that. Found some surprises in my sound system that I had to correct. The calibration worked nicely. Overall, very impressive. Has more than enough power for my room. I have two output devices -- a 40" HD television and a 92" screen/projector. II took a while to figure out how to change from the TV to the projector and back. Took a long while to get sorted out. Takes a bit of fiddling in the setup to make the switch. Wish there was a single button, but I haven't found it yet. Overall, I'm impressed and pleased with the Denon 900W
Pros: Easy to set up a system -- just connect the TV and it leads you through the whole process. Speaker calibration is terrific and really good. My earlier Denon model worked for 10 years flawlessly -- I expect same here.
Cons: Changing between 2 output devices is confusing until you get used to it. If not for this initial difficulty, I would give it 5 stars easy.
Very pleased with this reciever
Pros: I purchased this receiver to replace 2 separate receivers (home theater & whole house audio). Installation was simple (thanks to HDMI), I reduced the # of cables & connections significantly. The Denon guided setup application was great, and I had the whole system setup in no time. I really liked the Audyssey feature, best sound i've ever had. I love the app that I can change/control receiver from anywhere in the house with my phone/tablet. Love the AirPlay & Pandora on Zone2.
Cons: Guided setup was great, but it did hang once.

TV can be on and see analog. the hdmi cables have outlets for your tv, game, Blu ray, all different component. You push a but ten and it take you to that component. easy to operate. . [ YURI Jan 03, 2015 ]
There are two parameters that must be set-up appropriately for you to pass through this receiver - given - that the receiver is turned off. First, the 'Pass through parameter in Settings must be 'ON' (On is the default parameter). Second, The 'Pass Through Source' parameter , also in Settings, must be set to either Cable/Sat, DVD, Blue Ray, or CD. There can be only one of these HDMI devices selected. I have mine set up for Cable/Sat. I just verified that it works through the TV and the TV's speakers when I turn this receiver off. [ Jim Jan 02, 2015 ]
I have never used that function I always have the receiver on. Sorry [ TERRY Jan 02, 2015 ]
You can choose to have it pass-thru the most recent source or choose another to always pass-thru. Unfortunately, it will not pass-thru which ever active source you turn on. For example, the default is to pass-thru the "cable/sat" source in standby mode. If you turn on a blu-ray player it will not pass-thru. You'll need to turn on the receiver and select that source. [ Tom Jan 02, 2015 ]
You have to set which device to be passed through via the set-up menu. For instance, if you set it to CBL/SAT when you have hdmi pass through on it will pass through your cable box. [ RICHARD Jan 02, 2015 ]
