Get precision surround sound to match the amazing picture quality with decoding for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X (DTS:X support available via future firmware update). Denon's Setup Assistant makes connecting your gear and optimizing settings a breeze with step-by-step instructions. The improved 2016 AVR Remote app lets you make detailed adjustments to your system's settings from your compatible phone or tablet.

A world of music at your fingertips

The AVR-S920W's Wi-Fi lets you access your own digital music library through your home network, and Bluetooth lets you stream anything you like from your phone or tablet. Tune into Internet radio stations from around the world with vTuner, or play custom content with Pandora®, Spotify® Connect, or SiriusXM. This powerful receiver even offers convenient playback of several different high-resolution audio formats through the front-panel USB port or a networked computer.

Due to changes implemented by Pandora, this receiver is temporarily unable to connect to the Pandora service. A firmware update to resolve this issue is currently available.

Music in a second room

The AVR-S920W has outputs for seven speakers, so you can enjoy a 5-channel home theater setup in your living room and reassign the rear surround channels to power a pair of speakers in a separate room. Relax to your favorite tunes on the patio while the rest of the family takes in a movie with surround sound in the living room.

A second HDMI output lets you watch the same video source in your main zone and a second room. Start a movie in your living room and finish it in your bedroom or kitchen. Or watch the same content on a TV and projector in the same room.

    Q
Can the LG SJ9 Atmos soundbar be hooked up to this? Im trying to get Dolby Atmos on my LG OLED e6 which doesnt support Atmos over ARC. Any info is appreciated.
    nelson  May 28, 2017
    1 answer
    A
A powered soundbar will not work with a theater receiver. The only way I can think of to get it true Dolby Atmos is by using its HDMI input to take in both audio and video. Then use its HDMI output to send the video on to the TV. I moved into a house wired for 5 zone system. Will this along with a zone selector switch do me just fine? Or do I need a distributed amplifier as well?

I am not all knowledgeable about the power necessary to run several zones but the Denon I believe has more than enough power to meet your needs. It's low distortion coupled with efficient speakers should work well for you.

Good morning Ryan, The Denon AVR S920W had three independent zones - Main, Zone 2 and Zone 3. If you add a three-way speaker selector to Zone 3, you can effectively add two more zones. However, you will need to manually select the desired zone (I.e. 3, 4 or 5). Hope this helps. Tony

    Q
hardwood floors how is the sound quality?
    john  Apr 17, 2017

    A
Hi John, this is my third Denon receiver. Their sound quality is among the best of receivers . I'm not really sure how hardwood floors can affect the performance of any receiver, but with hardwood floors you may get some vibrations if the speakers are on the floor, or the speaker stands are not dampened. That would definitely affect the sound quality. I put rounded rubber buttons underneath the speaker, or the speaker stand. I am well pleased with the receiver, and the remote control application works well with my Smart phone or tablet. This receiver is middle of the line, but loaded with features, and a great value.

I have good speakers so the sound is amazing

Hardwood does not seem to affect or compromise sound. We have hardwood and 12 ft ceilings. Sound is clean and rich.

    Q
I want to hookup a turntable to this receiver? Do I have a jack to connect that to?
    bobby  Apr 08, 2017
    1 answer
    A
You can hook it up but you will need a phono amp to match the impedance .

    Q
Wish to configure (Main) in a Dolby Atmos 5.2 setup, will outdoor speakers still be available?
    mikej  Jan 30, 2017
    1 answer
    A
Sorry, no. The AVR-S920W has 7 channels so, if you use them all for a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos configuration in the main room, you will not be able to power speakers in a secondary zone as well. While I know this isn't the answer you were looking for, I hope the information helps.

    Q
    Is this HDR compatible?
    troy  Jan 01, 2017
    1 answer
    A
Yes, it is HDR compatible. I specifically purchased 4K HDR movie and had my blue ray player hooked to Denon s929W which in turn was hooked to my 4k hdr tv.
    aswin  Jan 02, 2017
    Q
The details indicate that when the power is turned on, only the video signal passes through the HDMI Out port. Audio is directed to the speakers connected to the receiver. Does this apply to the second HDMI out port also? That is, when the receiver is on, will a TV connected to the HDMI Out 2 port get both video and audio?
    todd  Dec 28, 2016
    1 answer
    A
Yes: "The receiver's second HDMI monitor output lets you send the same HDMI audio/video input signal that is being played in the main zone to a second zone (video is output at the resolution supported by both TVs)." You will find this information, and more, by clicking the "Details" tab on the receiver's main webpage and scrolling down below the "Features & Specs" table. I hope that helps.
