    Audio Features

Equal Power Amp Design w Discrete Circuitry: The Denon AVR-X1000 is equipped with a 5 channel power amplifier rated at 80-watts (into 8-ohms, at 20-20kHz, with 0.08% THD, driving 2 channels) that reproduces high-fidelity sound in surround mode with equal quality and power for all channels, true to the original sound. The power amplifier circuit adopts a discrete-circuit configuration that achieves high-quality surround sound reproduction. To faithfully reproduce the original surround sound, each of the Denon AVR-X1000's five channels are equipped with its own high-current power amp of equal power. Since these power amps also use discrete circuits configured with parts strictly selected for their contribution to high sound quality, rather than with low-cost integrated circuits (ICs), the surround sound playback is of impeccably high quality.

24-bit/192-kHz DACs: This receiver is equipped with 24-bit/192-kHz DACs for all channels to decode and playback high-resolution recordings with less jitter and  clearer sound.

32-Bit Processing DSP: The Denon AVR-X1000 is equipped with an Analog Devices 32-bit DSP for powerful and highly accurate surround sound reproduction.

Multi-Channel Decoding Formats: The Denon AVR-X1000 AV receiver supports the following multi-channel (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic) decoding formats.

Note: Dolby Digital and DTS listening modes can only be selected if your audio source is connected to the AV receiver via a digital audio connection (HDMI, optical, or coaxial). Even though the AV receiver will decode 7.1channel surround sound (via HDMI), it will only output 5.1ch surround, because it lacks Surround Back channel speaker outputs.

Denon Original Listening Modes: Denon's Original Listening Modes, combined with Dolby Digital/DTS/Dolby Pro Logic processing, produce more realistic, powerful sound effects for your movie and music sound tracks based on the type of content and your home theater setup. You can choose from the following:

    • Rock Arena: For rock and popular music sources, this mode surrounds you with reflected sound of the kind you would hear at a live concert.
    • Jazz Club: This mode recreates the atmosphere of a live house where the ceiling is low and you are enveloped with rich doses of reflected sound.
    • Matrix: With this mode, you can add rich reflected sound to 2-channel stereo music sources where reflected sound is normally not audible.
    • Video Game: This mode is suited for achieving surround sound with video games..
    • Mono Movie: This mode is used when you listen to recorded monaural sound sources such as AM radio broadcasts or news programs from the center speaker.
    • Virtual: Enjoy surround effects using only the front speakers or set of headphones.
    • Multichannel Stereo: Left and right stereo channels are distributed to all the speakers so that stereo sound can be heard from all directions at any listening position.
Note: This unit automatically generates a list of all the playable sound modes based on the input audio format and the current speaker setup configuration and displays the list on the screen. Therefore, you can select a correct surround playback mode even if you are not familiar with sound mode selection.

Direct Listening Modes: The Denon AVR-X1000 offers two Direct Listening Modes which bypass the receiver's tone & DSP processing for higher sound quality performance. Direct Mode provides playback of 2ch or Multichannel audio in its original form, without any surround or tone processing. Pure Direct Mode goes a step further by turning off the receiver's display and analog video circuitry to minimize the possibility of any noised being added to the audio signal.

Audyssey Technology: The AVR-X1000 features a full package of Audyssey audio technologies for optimal sound quality. Audyssey Dynamic Volume offers real-time volume adjustment, while Audyssey DynamicEQ improves your system's surround effects during low volume levels. Audyssey MultEQ automatically sets speakers to suit your room's listening environment and the speakers' characteristics.

    • Audyssey MultEQ: Audyssey MultEQ technology helps create an optimal acoustic profile for your home theater. Using the included setup microphone, Audyssey MultEQ measures sound levels and adjusts speaker configuration accordingly, making setup fast and easy. This room acoustic measuring and correction system analyzes (via the included microphone) the audio characteristics of your speaker system and your listening environment at up to 6 measurement points and automatically tailors the sound for top audio fidelity. You can set the Audyssey MultEQ to one of the following modes.
      • Audyssey: Optimizes the crossover point, output level, delay time, and equalization of all speakers based on speaker frequency response, speaker location, and room acoustics.
      • Audyssey Bypass L/R: Optimizes all speakers except front left and right.
      • Audyssey Flat: Optimizes frequency response of all speakers to flat.
      • Manual: Adjusts the tonal quality for each speaker individually using the manual equalizer settings; 63 Hz, 125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz, 8 kHz, and 16 kHz (-20dB to +6dB).
      • Off: Turns equalizer off.
    • Dynamic EQ: Audio engineers mix music and movie soundtracks at reference levels much louder than typical home listening levels. At lower volumes the human ear perceives sound differently; voices change, bass dissipates, and the surround effect becomes less enveloping. Dynamic EQ adjusts the frequency response curve based on volume to maintain consistent bass output, octave-to-octave balance, and surround impact, resulting in rich sound at any volume. You can set the Dynamic EQ to 0, 5, 10, or 15 dB.
    • Audyssey Dynamic Volume: Audyssey Dynamic Volume solves the problem of large variations in volume level between television programs, commercials, and between the soft and loud passages of movies. Dynamic Volume addresses the issue of commercials that are too loud and movie soundtracks with vast differences between soft and loud passages; the results are more intelligible dialogue, loud passages maintain impact, and soft whispers are heard clearly. When the volume level changes, Dynamic EQ also adjusts the frequency response to maintain sound quality. You can set the Dynamic Volume to Day (low), Evening (middle), Midnight (high), or off.

Surround Parameters: You can adjust the following surround mode parameters:

    • Dolby Pro Logic II Music Settings: While listening in the Dolby Pro Logic II Music format, there are three further enhancements you can adjust:
      • Panorama: Broadens the front stereo image to the surround speakers to provide a wraparound effect, especially effective when there is limited output from the surround channels, panorama can be turned on/off in the menu.
      • Dimension: Allows you to move the sound field forward or backward.
      • Center Width: Allows you to adjust the width of the center channel.
    • Center Image: In the Neo:6 Music mode, the Center Image feature adjusts the output of the left and right channels relative to the center channel, allowing you to make the center channel more or less dominant as needed. This improves the image of the center channel, especially when the listener is off-center. Adjustment varies from 5 (nothing subtracted from the L/R channels) to 0 (L/R channel output is cut in half).
    • Denon Original Surround Mode Settings: While listening in one of the Denon Original Surround Modes, there are three further enhancements you can adjust:
      • Room Size: This feature allows you to set the size of your desired acoustic environment when using specific Denon Original Surround Modes; select Small, Medium small, Medium, Medium large, or Large.
      • Effect Level: This function adjusts the effect signal level from 1 to 15 when using specific Denon Original Surround Modes.
      • Delay Time: This feature adjusts the delay time (0-300ms) to control the sound stage size.

Audio Enhancements: The Denon AVR-X1000 receiver provides various audio enhancements to deliver a high-quality listening experience every time.

    • CINEMA EQ (Cinema Equalizer): The Cinema EQ function gently decreases the level of the extreme high frequencies, compensating for overly-bright sounding motion picture soundtracks. Select this function if the sound from the front speakers is too bright. This function only works in the Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic (including PL II, PL IIx, PL IIz), and DTS Neo:6 modes.
    • Restorer: Compressed audio formats such as MP3, WMA (Windows Media Audio), and MPEG-4 AAC reduce the amount of data by eliminating signal components that are hard for the human ear to hear. The Restorer function generates the signals eliminated upon compression, restoring the sound to conditions near those of the original sound before compression. It also corrects the sense of volume of the bass to obtain richer sound with compressed audio signals.
    • Dynamic Range Compression (DRC): Motion picture soundtracks have tremendous dynamic range (the contrast between very soft and very loud sounds). For listening late at night, or whenever the maximum sound level is lower than usual, Compressing the dynamic range allows you to hear all of the sounds in the soundtrack with reduced dynamic range. DRC works when playing program sources recorded in Dolby Digital or DTS.
    • Tone Settings: You can independently adjust the system's overall Bass and Treble settings from -6 to +6 dB.

Volume Settings: The AVR-X1000 offers the following volume settings.

    • Volume Scale: You can choose to display an Absolute volume scale (0-98) or Relative volume scale (-79.5 to 18dB).
    • Volume Limit: You can set a maximum volume level of 0, -10, or -20 dB to limit the receiver's total volume output.
    • Power On Level: You can define the volume setting that is active when the power is turned on (0, 1-98, -79 to +18dB, or Last)
    • Mute Level: You can set the amount of attenuation for the audio muting circuit; -40dB or -20dB below current volume, or full mute (sound turned off entirely).

Level Adjustments:  The AVR-X1000 provides the following level adjustments.

    • Source Level: This function adjusts the playback level of the currently selected input source's audio input. Use this feature if there are differences in the input volume levels between different sources. You can correct the playback level of the audio input from -12 to +12dB.
    • Dialogue Level: You can adjust the output level (+/-12dB) to clarify the dialogue output from the center channel.
    • Subwoofer Level: You can set the receiver's subwoofer output level (+/-12dB) independent from the other speaker levels and system's main volume.

Audio Inputs/Outputs: The Denon AV receiver offers a variety of analog and digital audio inputs/outputs.

    • Assignable Digital Inputs: The AVR-X1000 features an optical digital (Toslink) input and a coaxial digital input. Each input can be assigned to any of the different input sources except Tuner.
    • Speaker Terminals w/ Color Labels: The receiver has binding-post terminals for all speaker connections. The binding-post terminals can accept bare wire, pin connectors, and banana plugs (single/dual). The receiver will accept speaker impedances of 6 to 16-ohm. The AV receiver comes with color labels to easily identify which channel a speaker cable should be connected to. Since the speaker cables have labels in the same colors as the connectors on the AVR-X1000's rear panel, there's no longer any confusion about which terminals they should be connected to.
    • Headphones: When headphones are plugged into the full-size 1/4" jack on the front panel, all the speakers are automatically muted.

    Video Features

HDMI (v1.4): With six HDMI v1.4 inputs (5 rear/1 front), the AVR-X1000 allows you to route multiple high-definition devices, such as your Blu-ray player and cable/satellite receiver, to your TV. It also allows you to connect all of your devices to your TV with a single HDMI cable (via its HDMI monitor output), reducing cable clutter. The HDMI inputs are assignable to different input sources. The receiver's HDMI v.1.4 jacks are compatible with 1080p/24Hz video, 3D video signals, Deep Color & x.v.Color technology; as well as LipSync, ARC, and HDMI control.

    • 3D Pass-Through: With the advent of 3D media, it is important to own a receiver that recognizes 3D video signals. The AVR-X1000 is able to pass through 3D signals from your Blu-ray player, ensuring that the 3D effect doesn't get lost in translation. It also recognizes signals from 3D television broadcasts. By connecting a 3D-compliant Blu-ray disc player and 3D-compliant TV to the AVR-X1000, you will have a 3D home theater where you can enjoy high-definition sound and video on a level you've never experienced before.
    • Deep/x.v.Color Support: The AVR-X1000 also supports Deep Color and x.v.Color content, which can display a larger color range than standard-definition schemes. The result is a more lifelike, vibrant picture.
    • LipSync: If needed, the audio signal can be manually delayed to match the video signal; adjust from 0-200ms.
    • ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.

HDMI Standby Pass-Through: When enabling the HDMI Standby Pass-Through function, regardless of whether the AV receiver is "On" or in "Standby" both audio/video streams from an HDMI input will be output to your television, via the receiver's HDMI monitor output. You can select between three HDMI through function modes.

    • HDMI Input: Selects the HDMI Input (1-4) for which the HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is enabled.
    • Last: The HDMI Standby-Through function is activated on the input source selected at the time of setting the AV receiver to the "Standby" mode.
    • Off: The HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is disabled.

Composite Video Inputs/Output: The receiver features two composite video inputs and one composite video monitor output. You must connect the receiver to your TV via composite video to view incoming video from the receiver's composite inputs. There are no component video inputs/outputs.

Video Select Function: While listening to Network/Tuner/USB content, you can switch the receiver's video input so you can display video while listening to an audio source.

    Network + Tuner Functions

    iPod/USB Integration

AirPlay Compatible: AirPlay lets you stream your favorite songs directly from your iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad, or from your iTunes library on your PC or Mac to the Denon AVR-X1000, over your home network connection. By downloading Apple's free "Remote" application onto your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad you don't even need to be in the same room as the components or your computer to play, pause, skip, and stop the songs in your iTunes music library. You will even see the iTunes music information, including your track titles and artist info via the Denon receiver's on-screen menu (via HDMI).

Note: To use the AirPlay feature you need a Mac or Windows-based PC running iTunes (10.1 or later) connected to your wireless home network. Your iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad must have iOS 4.3 or later installed and connected to the same wireless home network.

iPod/iPhone Direct: The Denon AV receiver is fitted with a front-panel USB (type-A) port and HDMI port for playback of audio and video files from select iPod, iPhone, or iPad devices.

    • Audio Playback: The AVR-X1000 supports digital music playback from an iPod, iPhone, or iPad using its front-panel USB (type-A) port. Simply plug your compatible Apple device into the receiver's front-panel USB port, using the cable that came with your iPod/iPhone/iPad. Stored music and music apps from your connected Apple device can be played through the AV receiver, bypassing the iPod/iPhone D/A converter for better sound quality. The iPod/iPhone/iPad can be controlled by the receiver's remote, or you can continue to use the Apple device's clickwheel or touchscreen. You can search for stored music on your iPod/iPhone/iPad by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, Composer, or Audiobook. Song/artist information and Album Art from stored music and music apps on your iPod/iPhone will display on your connected TV via HDMI (song/artist text will also display on receiver's front-panel display).
    • Video Playback: You can also view video from stored movies and movie apps from select iPods, iPhone, and iPads by connecting your Apple device to the AV receiver's front-panel USB and HDMI input. Use the Apple Lightning-to-Digital AV Adapter (472LT2HDMI sold separately), the Apple Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your device, and a HDMI cable (sold separately) to connect your iPod touch (5th gen), iPhone 5, iPad 4, or iPad mini to the AV receiver. Use the Apple Dock-to-Digital AV Adapter (47230PHDMI, sold separately), the Apple Dock-to-USB cable that came with your device, and a HDMI cable (sold separately) to connect your iPod touch (4th gen), iPhone 4/4S, or iPad (1/2/3). Using the HDMI input, video from your iPod/iPhone/iPad can only be navigated from your Apple device's clickwheel or touchscreen. Using the optional iPod/iPhone video dock (ASD-11R, sold separately), you can output video from your older Apple devices such as iPod video (5th gen), iPod classic (80/120/160GB), iPod touch (1st/2nd/3rd gen), and iPhone 2G/3G/3GS). This add-on dock only features an S-video output, so your TV must be equipped with an S-video input (the receiver has no S-video input).

Note: Your Apple iPod/iPhone's battery will be charged while connected to the receiver (max. 1A). This unit will not charge the iPad.

    Convenience Features

On-Screen GUI w/ Setup Assistant (via HDMI): The AV receiver's on-screen display (GUI) provides information about your system's settings (with video overlay). The on-screen graphical display combines large, clear text and icons, so you can easily make all necessary adjustments and settings during setup, to quickly and easily optimize the AVR-X1000 for your particular speaker setup and source equipment. The exclusive Denon Setup Assistant easily walks you through the whole process. When you control the sound volume, the volume level is displayed on-screen, and when you switch the input source, the name of the input source is also displayed on-screen. The on-screen menu can only be output to your TV via HDMI. If you connect the receiver to your television via only composite video, you will need to use the A/V receiver's front-panel display for menu and source adjustments.

Multi-Source/Multi-Zone: The Denon AVR-X1000 offers Zone 2 and All Zone Stereo functionality for playback of audio in two separate rooms of your home.

    • Zone 2: Denon's Zone 2 function lets you select a different audio source for listening in a second location of your home. The AVR-X1000 features a Main Zone (audio/video) and Zone 2 (audio only). By using the line-level outputs on the AVR-X1000, you can connect a separate power amp and a pair of speakers in a second room, allowing you to listen to 5.1ch surround in the main room and play 2ch stereo of a different audio source in another room of your home. The volume of Zone 2 can be controlled by the Denon receiver using either configuration or from your add-on amplifier when using the line-output.
      • Compatible Zone Sources: Only tuner, analog, USB, and Network sources can be played in Zone 2. You cannot select different FM radio stations or different Network content for different zones. To hear AirPlay in Zone 2, you must first start playing Airplay in the Main Zone. Once you have selected AirPlay in Zone 2, you can then switch the source of the Main Zone.
      • Incompatible Zone Sources: It is not possible to play the digital audio signals from the HDMI, Coaxial, or Optical terminals in Zone 2. Video cannot be sent to Zone 2.
    • All Zone Stereo Function: The All Zone Stereo function allows you to enjoy the AV receiver's Main Zone audio source in Zone 2 simultaneously (regardless of input audio signal types; analog or digital). During the All Zone Stereo, 2ch playback is automatically selected for all zones and each zone will play at the same volume level. This is useful when you want to enjoy the same music at the same time in multiple rooms during a get together or party.

Front-Panel Display Dimmer: The receiver features 4 display settings for the front-panel LCD window; Bright, Dim, Dark, and Off.

Quick Select: The receiver's front-panel has four Quick Select buttons. Each button can be programmed with a specific input source, surround mode, and volume setting for easy recall.

Source Rename/Hide: You can change the display name (up to 8 characters) of a selected input source. If an input isn't being used, you can hide it from the display so you don't have to scroll past it when you change sources.

Text Search: You can search Internet Radio, USB, and DLNA content using keyword searches from the AV receiver's on-screen menu and remote control.

Slide Shows/Picture View: You can play back still image (JPEG) files stored on a USB memory device or media server and pictures on Flickr website as a slide show. The display time can also be set. You can also play back music and a favorite picture at the same time via USB, Internet Radio, or Media Server.

Personal Memory Plus: For each input, the receiver automatically memorizes the settings for input mode, surround mode, HDMI output mode, audio delay, etc. When the input source is switched, the settings last used for that source are automatically recalled. The surround parameters, tone control settings, and playback levels for the different output channels are memorized for each surround mode.

Protection Circuit: This is a function to prevent damage to components within the power supply when an abnormality such as an overload, excess voltage, or over-heating occurs. In this unit, the power indicator blinks and the unit enters standby mode when an abnormality occurs.

Timers: The receiver features a programmable Sleep Timer and Auto Standby function.

    • Sleep Timer: This function allows you to automatically set the power to standby after a predetermined amount of time has passed; set the sleep timer up to 120 minutes in 10 minute increments.
    • Auto Standby: The unit enters standby mode automatically when no commands are sent to the unit for the set time (30 or 60 minutes). Before it enters the standby mode, "Auto Standby" is displayed on the front-panel display of this unit and the on-screen menu.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The AVR-X1000 comes with an IR wireless remote control that can operate this receiver only. The remote control features Glow keys so it can easily be used in the dark.

HDMI Control: The Denon AVR-X1000 can control select external audio/video components connected via HDMI which support HDMI control. When you make an HDMI connection with a TV or player compatible with the AVR-X1000's HDMI control function, you can perform the operations from the AVR-X1000's remote control; Power off, Switching of audio output devices, Switching of audio input devices, Volume adjustment, and Playback functions.

Denon Remote App: The Denon Remote App lets you control the Denon Network A/V receiver using your Apple iOS or Android device. Simply download the free Denon Remote App from the iTunes App Store for the iPod touch/iPhone/iPad (iOS 4.3+), or download the free Denon Remote App from Google Play for your compatible Android device (1.5+). The AV receiver will need to be connected to the same network as your Apple iOS or Android device. This free Remote App lets you control the Denon A/V receiver's basic functions (power, volume, input, surround modes) from your Apple iOS or Android device. You can even navigate the A/V receiver's network and Internet content from your compatible Apple iOS or Android device. For added convenience, there are eight customizable home screen short cut buttons that allow you to tailor the look and function of the Denon Remote App to suit your needs.

Remote Input: If this unit is installed in a location that is out of range of the signal from the remote control unit (such as when installed in a cabinet), you can still operate the unit by using a commercially available IR repeater system (sold separately), plugged into the receiver's 3.5mm Remote input.

    Denon AVR X1000

Written By Bob G, Sumter SC on Friday, May 09, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver for the living room to replace an older Integra receiver that had died. This is my wife's main TV viewing area. She's not real "Techie" nor does she listen to the TV at loud volumes. This receiver was only going to see light duty primary running the Acoustimass 10 series speaker system I wanted to upgrade to use all HDMI connections, to get rid of most of the Spaghetti nightmare behind the TV. When I hooked up the receiver to the TV, I got nothing. I called Denon and we went through a couple of troubleshooting steps, and reset the receiver all to no avail. I called Crutchfield and explained the situation and he told me they would send me another one. They sent us a return label and that was that.. or so we thought. When the new receiver arrived two days later, we experienced the same problem. Called Denon, eh not much help. We then called Crutchfield and really went to town. The problem turned out to be the TV set was 8 years old and had an incompatible HDMI system. I bought her a new 65" Vizio 240 hz Razor LED and that solved all the problems. We also added a Sony 3D Bluray..man what a picture and great sound. The receiver does seem to have to go to the upper end of the volume nob to start getting loud. But from 60 to 80 % is a tremendous increase.
    Pros:
Good value, at a very reasonable price. Had all the features we needed and then some. Easy to install and set up, once we got a compatible TV set. Sounds real good with the Bose. Thanks to Crutchfield for the excellent service, they have made a customer for life!
    Cons:
    None so far

    Denon X1000 Review

Written By yousmellfunnytoo, Oswego, IL on Friday, May 09, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'd like to start by saying how much of a budget conscious shopper I am. I had been researching this Denon line of AVR's for a while. I looked all around the net, and saw that prices were dropping. It's because the 2014 models were coming out. I'm glad I purchased when I did because, just days after I purchased it, it was no longer available. Crutchfield had the lowest price I could find on it, including some open boxed ones on auction sites. And this is for a brand new reciever.

I went with this AVR because I feel like it was built for me. A no-frills, no paying for extra features I wouldn't use. No paying for a million rear connections that I would never utilize.

My set up is pretty awesome and somewhat unique. With everyone going towards 7.1 or higher, My room is long and narrow, forcing me to only be able to have a 5.1 set up. I have all newer tech hooked up to it. Everything is HDMI, so having the 6 in and 1 out is perfect. It is going to a projector, so no need for 4k upscale. It has 3D, which is perfect for my projector. It is a networked receiver, which recognizes DLNA, which is perfect for my media server. It also has a non-powered zone 2 audio out. I have heard complaints about this that it wasn't powered, but it is PERFECT for me because I have a 6 zone whole home amp that it can connect to. Everything is controlled through my phone, and it sounds great!
    Pros:
    1. First and foremost, COST. As mentioned above, I got it for a great price before it stopped being stocked. It was the cheapest I could find online, so a brand new, full warranty, AVR for the cost of a used/openboxed item, it's a no brainer. 2. I mentioned above, I feel like this was built for me. It has all the features I want, an nothing I don't. This makes for a really clean install. No random cables all over the place 3. Network control-ability. Even has Web Interface.
    Cons:
    1. No WIFI ( I actually prefer this, as my whole house is hardwired and I try to stay away from wifi, but I could see some people not liking this) 2. Not a lot of support for old tech. Has some analog inputs but not many (again, I prefer this) 3. Would not be that great for a bigger room (currently in a 19x13 room, and sounds great, gets nice and loud, but anything too much bigger, I don't think would sound as good.)

Modern Interpretation of a Classic Denon

Written By pcw127, Austin, TX on Saturday, April 26, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice receiver with all the streaming capability of a music server. Sound quality is top notch with amazing clarity and detail while providing refined bass notes. Set up was very easy and the Audyssey speaker calibration software did a fantastic job of tuning. Excellent sound quality from compressed and streamed audio and robust bass response when watching Blu Ray. The HDMI 3D pass through is excellent with very deep color and makes source switching super easy. The free app has potentials but its a bit slow and buggy The app does not always respond to your commands and it will sometimes lock up. This is a great receiver that offers streaming capability controlled by an app that frankly needs a lot of work.
    Pros:
Excellent sound quality Easy set up Remote easy to use Great speaker tuning tool Amazing audio streaming quality Good build quality with nice design
    Cons:
The free app has potentials but falls short in terms of fluid functionality

    Excellent System

Written By Chris A, Sudbury, MA on Wednesday, April 16, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to set up, sound is excellent and a well laid out remote. The sytem software and DSPs were all updated once I connected to the network. I found the sound and power excellent, however the network apps...(eg. Pandora) had very basic and clunky interfaces unlike what you get when using Samsung's network apps which is what I intend to use. Overall, a good solid system for the price.
    Pros:
Great sound and power for a better than average Home Theatre System. Easy to set up and great remote.
    Cons:
System does not have wireless ethernet. Network applications (Pandora, etc.) not as nice as others (eg. Samsung)

    Great Receiver

Written By PRH, Exton, PA on Thursday, March 13, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver to replace my aging Bose Lifestyle 25 system. My goal was to get a quality receiver that would not break the bank. It was rather comical because when it arrived, I realized that my packaged Bose Accoustimass module would not work with the Denon. My friendly Crutchfield customer support rep confirmed there was no work-a-round and recommended Energy Micro 5.1 surround speakers at an amazing price so good to go. I am extremely impressed with both the receiver and speakers. The sound is a major upgrade over the Bose and the total price saved me well over $1500.00. I would agree that the CD manual leaves a little to be desired, but this thing is so easy to hook and use that it is understandable why Denon did not include a paper manual. Connected to my apple airport express wireless extender, the i pad and i phone apps allow me to control both zone 1 and zone 2 from anywhere in my house and work perfectly. Overall, this purchase is a home run, made even better with the amazing customer service provided by Crutchfield.
    Pros:
Crystal clear sound, network connectivity with i pad and i phone, easy set-up and easy to use, value for price paid.
    Cons:
I really can't think of any downside to this receiver.

By far the best I ever had

Written By Steve, United States on Saturday, February 22, 2014

I had a Yamaha and replaced it with this and I am so happy that I did. So easy to hook up, you litterally can't screw it up and I could be electronically challenged. Loved how it comes with a microphone that sets up optimum audio. It plugs right into the front of the receiver and you move it to 8 spots of your listening area (it walks you through the entire process, including where and how long to hold the mic). It was so easy to do and it took about 5 minutes. Don't skip this extremely easy 5 minute set up because it really made a difference.
    Pros:
Great audio for all types of music, movies, xbox one. Easiest electronic set up of my life. A steal for under$500.
    Cons:
    None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this AVR to replace a DENON 1610 that I purchased from Crutchfield 4 years ago, which stopped transmitting audio rather abruptly, with an audible clicking sound coming from the unit. I must say I preferred the 1610 to the X1000 for several reasons. Although the X1000 has 5 more watts per channel than the 1610, there are a few features that my old one had (at a less expensive price point) which the new one does not. On the 1610, there was no doubt when you were watching something with DTSHD, as a blue light would come on in the upper-right hand corner of the display. There's also no input for adding a turntable (with the addition of a proper amp). The X1000 also seems to be incompatible with my DVR, as far as audio goes. My BluRay and DVD audio are both received by the AVR correctly (DTSHD for BluRay, DOLBYD 5.1 for DVD). However though, the 1610 never had any problems receiving DOLBYD 5.1 when viewing HD stations from my DVR, whereas the X1000 says it's receiving a PCM (stereo) signal from the DVR. I can switch the X1000's audio to PLllC, a faux 5.1, but it's not the same quality as a true 5.1 Dolby signal. This really bothered me, and I've tried every possible fix, by speaking to Crutchfield support (using a digital audio cable, switching HDMI inputs and cables), as well as going as far as changing out the DVR's through my cable provider, all to no avail. With all of that being said, the new unit performs well otherwise.
    Pros:
Audyssey set-up much easier than previous models.
    Cons:
Compared to older, less expensive models, not a lot of bang for your buck.

    Denon Receiver purchase AVR-X1000

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered this receiver from Crutchfield to replace an old all in one unit I had for about 7 years. So far it has been great. It could not be easier to install and it was very compatible with all of the other items I plugged in to the unit. It was great to only have to run 1 HDMI plug to the TV and back. I haven't really even started by using all of the functions yet but so far it has been a great product. Even adding it to my Logic Tech remote was easy. Crutchfield was a great place to buy from. I ordered it on a Saturday afternoon and it was on my front porch Wednesday of that week.
    Pros:
    HDMI connections
    Cons:
None I could fine as of yet.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall I would recommend this receiver. Sound quality is good, set up was fairly easy. The graphic interface isn't all that great and it can be difficult to figure out. I'm having a hard time playing Pandora through it, it's like it doesn't buffer at all, the tracks skip a lot (like play 2 seconds, stop for a second, play 2 seconds, etc.) and I know it isn't the internet connection because I can play Pandora perfectly through my blu-ray player.
    Pros:
    Great quality at great price
    Cons:
no full user manual on paper, I don't have a CD drive on my computer, so I had to download the user manual. graphic interface kind outdated. difficulty with parts of set up

    Denon AVR-X1000

Written By Bob H., Lake Monticello, VA on Sunday, December 22, 2013

The Denon AVR-X1000 is the best receiver I have had that falls in my price range which is less than $500. I suspect some of those that run to more than $800 are probably better, but I really can't see that much difference between the X1000 and the Denon 3013 of my son's (which cost a lot more). That being said, and doing some comparison between his setup and mine I find the crispness, response, tonal warmth (we both use Polk Audio speaker systems) and general signal clarity for either music or Blu-Ray are very similar. I have had a number of other receivers in this same price range from Sony, Onkyo and Yamaha and I find this to be, to my ear, the best of the batch. The ambiance of the music, whether classical, semi-classical or popular puts one in the middle of the orchestra and one can feel the type of room or auditorium in which the music is played. With five HDMI inputs I have Satellite, Blue-Ray, Marantz CD player and an Xbox 360 connected with one input left over. Setup was extremely easy and the Audyssey Multi EQ allowed me to adjust the sound to any of eight positions. Since I have a small area I did so for three and find myself in front of the director's podium in each of them. I was surprised at the price of this receiver since it is lower than other 5.1 systems, though there are some 7.1 systems that are a bit higher priced. Given the difference in level of Audessey, or other audio setup, I found the X1000 to be the best bargain. I would recommend it highly
    Pros:
Ease of setup both in connecting speakers as well as audio setup
    Cons:
So far I find nothing to fault

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great receiver. The best (but not the most expensive) receiver that I have ever owned. By far the simplest setup, especially audyssey. I used to buy only Onkyo receivers, but two of them failed recently, so I decided to try Denon instead. I am very glad that I did. I also decided to connect the receiver to my network via an ethernet cable. Works like a charm. Highly recommended.
    Pros:
Super easy setup. Audyssey sets the speakers perfectly (5.1) Easy internet connection via ethernet cable

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I now own two Denon receivers. I purchased this AVR-X1000 for my home theater. I moved my other Denon receiver from my home theater to my main level family room.

Both of my Denon receivers get a ton of work. We have a family of five. These receivers are so easy to set up. They include a microphone that calibrates the speakers. The On Screen Display is very easy to interact with.

The front control panel makes it so easy to select your activity. The remote control is intuitive. I even downloaded the free Denon App to my phone and can control the receiver through the App.

Crutchfield pricing on Denon is remarkable. You'll be so pleased with Crutchfield support and a solid Denon receiver. I give both of my Denon receivers 5 Stars!
    Pros:
Easy setup, great sound, great on screen display, solid build quality.
    Cons:
    None at this price point

Replaced a 10 year old Denon receiver with this one because I bought a new TV and the whole world has gone to HDMI in the last 10 years. First off, HDMI makes everything easy. There are less cords and you can make everything look neat. With the old receiver and trying to use various audio inputs, nothing was easy to find. I would guess at which setting I needed for cable, DVD player, game etc. I set this receiver up perfect and everything is connected to the right input which makes it easy to switch audio modes. I only had to use 1 optical input for the smart TV back to the receiver. Bottom line: I was mad that I had to replace a receiver that was working fine & now I am so happy that I did it.
    Pros:
HDMI inputs makeseverything easy and intuitive
    Cons:
Still have to use optical connection for TV

The receiver was very easy to set up with Audyssey speaker set up and they sound great. The sound and video are both crisp and clear. I set up the network for internet radio and Pandora with no issues. The only problem I did have was the Wii connection. This receiver can not upscale video so I got a converter through another retailer for the back of the Wii to change it to a HDMI connection and it works perfectly fine (keep in mind it is still 480p). 3D movies play with no problem and digital processor puts sound in correct places. Air play function was easy to set as well. GREAT PRODUCT !!

The receiver showed up in two days and was packaged well.

It was easy to setup, and had good instructions. I love the access to internet radio, and can easily use all of my Apple devices with it. There were several HDMI inputs, which I didn't use all of them. I have several speakers throughout the house (plus outside) and this was a perfect fit. Sounds great, and powerful.
    Pros:
Easy to setup, powerful, sounds great, lots of HDMI inputs (did not use them all!)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very impressive, feature-rich unit. Controls are much more intuitive than the 10-year-old Denon it replaced. The on-screen display is terrific and the automatic speaker setup is spot-on. Out of the box, though, I couldn't get it to make a sound, nor was the Audigy option available. After about 45 minutes with Jack, a first-rate Crutchfield technician, we finally managed to get things going. The key seemed to be plugging in and removing headphones several times. Low-tech solution, I guess, but it worked. Fifteen minutes later, I had the 5.1 speakers balanced perfectly, Pandora set up and all was good.
    Pros:
Intuitive interface, on-screen display, simply incredible sound quality (which you'd expect from Denon). It easily integrated with my Logitech multi-device remote.
    Cons:
Only one, really ... the lack of "legacy" connectivity. For most people, not a big deal. But my local Comcast provider doesn't have true digital, so I'm stuck with coax to see broadcast TV. And I'm one of those oddballs that still has an SVHS VCR. A $40 analog to HDMI converter let me connect it. My Denon CD changer connected fine via digital coax, so life is good.

Do you sell a receiver that provides a composite auido output that works for all inputs Composite and HDMI? [ Joel  Dec 30, 2013 ]

    • You will want to contact an Advisor by phone or online chat to discuss this specific feature. They will be able to pull up the receivers we have and see if there is one that will fit your needs. If there is not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Jeff Staff  Dec 31, 2013 ]
I am thinking of buying this receiver because it has two room capability, primarily to separately control volume output to my outdoor deck speakers. do these speakers need to be separately powered or simply be conventional 8 ohm speakers? can these speakers be connected to the receiver while the main output is driving the home theater system., i.e. two simultaneous outputs ? thanks [ Jersey Joe  Dec 24, 2013 ]
    2 answers
    • The zone two outputs are pre-outs only. You will need a separate amp for powering the deck speakers. One of the most common units for that application is the AudioSource AMP100 Stereo Power Amplifier. Has auto on so you can "hide" the amp in a coat closet, attic or where ever. Once setup there is no fussing with it. BTW the remote Denon app for your smart phone will give you complete control of the X-1000 from your favorite deck lounge chair. [ Steve   Dec 26, 2013 ]
    • Joe, I don't have my Zone 2 set up yet, but from my understanding you will need a separate amplifier. The Zone 2 output is two RCA type outlets in the back on the receiver. Those two outputs would go the the input on a second amp which would drive your outdoor speakers. And yes, you can have two simultaneous different source outputs to different zones, i.e. watching a movie on the TV for zone 1 and playing background music from pandora on zone 2 [ TYLER   Dec 26, 2013 ]

    • Yes, it has a single RCA cable option to plug in a powered subwoofer. I bought this receiver and currently have a Polk dsw pro 660wi subwoofer hooked up to it. [ RICK E   Dec 27, 2013 ]
    • Yes I have paradigm powered sub [ PETER C   Dec 26, 2013 ]
    • Unfortunately there is no sub in my current configuration, I am using to drive multiple zones throughout the house. The subwoofer out is a single RCA connection in the pre-out section which would lead me to believe it is a line level out meant to go to a powered sub. [ DIANE   Dec 26, 2013 ]
    • yes of course. Just plug it in to the Pre-out for the sub and away you go. This thing is amazing . The auto setup has mad my existing speakers and sub woofer sound like never before. [ Steve   Dec 26, 2013 ]
    • Yes. [ MARK   Dec 26, 2013 ]
    • The receiver has a single unpowered LFE output for use by the majority of self-amplified subwoofers on the market. [ KEITH   Dec 26, 2013 ]

With the iPhone, I either use AirPlay or just plug in my iPhone or iPad to the USB port located on the front. You would then use the device to select the music you want to play. I don't see why that would not work, since you could connect via USB, and then select the USB option. I also stream music through other services like Pandora and Sirius XM. All are great! GOod Luck.
