A recipe for thrilling home theater

Denon AVR-X2000 7.1-channel home theater receiver with Apple AirPlay

Stream music from your iPad, iPhone, or computer running iTunes with the AVR-X2000's built-in AirPlay support.

Stream easy with AirPlay

Whether you've got music stored on your iPhone, iPad®, or computer running iTunes, AirPlay makes it as simple as pressing “Play” to stream songs to the 'X2000. It's so easy to browse and listen, you may find yourself rediscovering music you forgot you owned. Even if you don't have hundreds of gigabytes of digital tunes, don't feel left out — the 'X2000 features built-in support for Spotify® and SiriusXM subscribers, as well as free Pandora® Internet radio and DLNA-compatibility for networked PCs. That's millions of songs at your fingertips before you've connected a single component to this receiver. AirPlay requires a wireless home network and a wired connection between the receiver and network.

Audyssey fine-tunes your system

Denon's home theater receivers continue to get easier to set up and control. One of the 'X2000's best setup features is the built-in Audyssey speaker calibration software. Not only does it optimize your system to fit your room, but it can also tone down loud commercials as well as improve dialogue and surround effects during low-level listening. The 'X2000's full-color on-screen display uses lots of graphics makes these and other settings a breeze to navigate. Once you're set up, be sure to download the free Denon Remote app for your Apple or Android™ smartphone. It's the simplest and most intuitive way to control your receiver via your home Wi-Fi network.

Two assignable channels to fit your setup

With 7 pairs of speaker outputs, the AVR-X2000 offers a lot of setup flexibility, so you can customize your home theater to your own space and needs. Connecting a 5.1 surround system in one room leaves outputs for a stereo system in a second room — no additional amp required. Or use those extra channels in Zone 1 for "front high" or "surround back" speakers to give movie soundtracks even more depth and realism. Or try bi-amping your compatible front speakers to squeeze even more detail out of your two-channel music.

All the connectivity you need

Worried the 'X2000 can't handle all your components and sources? Seven HDMI inputs ought to ease your concern, with plenty of room for Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, cable boxes, and more. Analog-to-HDMI upscaling means you'll only need a single cable to connect this receiver to your HDTV. There's also a front-panel USB connection for your iPod® or other Apple device. It creates a direct digital connection, so you can get even better sound from it using the 'X2000's circuitry.

Denon AVR-X2000 7.1-channel home theater receiver with Apple AirPlay

The free Denon Remote app for Apple and Android lets you easily control the 'X2000 from your smartphone.

Very easy to set up and played right out of the box. I love the Internet features and AirPlay The sound set up made the basics work though I have tweaked it to my taste. Great picture quality though I have not tried the 4K output. I have had the unit about two weeks and am very happy so far

Was excited to get my first Denon. Have owned other brands..Onkyo, Sony, etc. After 3 months unit started resetting. Called Crutchfield and they said you have to call Denon we can't exchange it. Had to take it to local service center. It sat there for over a month until it finally got repaired. Turned out it was a know defect. Got the unit home and noticed scratches on front that were not there before I took it in for service. Called Denon to complain about lousy service and they said sorry for your trouble....that's it!! Will never buy another Denon product and probably won't shop at Crutchfield again. Terrible experience!!!

This is a great product that was very easy to set up. I replaced an older model Denon that did not have the HDMI outs and ins. I was amazed at the difference between the two recievers when watching a blue-ray movie. I was blown away at how well the auto calibration worked. I have not played music on this yet but will this evening. This really exceeded my expectations!

Pros: Simple and sounds amazing. Great value for the price.

Cons: can't think of any but I've only had it for a day.

    Great Receiver

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Going from a two channel bookshelf stereo system powering (WAY) oversized front speakers to this proper home theater receiver was quite an impressive change. I absolutely love the home theater receiver. The only odd thing with this receiver is with the volume which has a range of 0-98, even in a totally silent room there is no sound at all until at least 36 and a quite listening volume level is 45-55. I don't understand why i should have to turn the volume up half way just to hear my home theater. At that point I would expect it to be reasonably loud.

Pros: Works well. Good GUI and on screen options. Great crystal clear sound

Cons: Volume has to be at least half way up just to hear anything. Getting Audio Return Channel to work is really difficult and confusing... (I've yet to get it working) Setting up scenes or situations like normal settings for a particular input isn't very intuitive

A GREAT AV RECEIVER AT FAIR PRICE

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, having used for less than a month- the only reason one STAR was removed is longevity and the unit being problem free has yet to be determined. The receiver has most of the features you'd look for in an AV Receiver. This 95w/ channel Denon is playing the 7.1 audio out through Martin Logan MLT-2 speaker system (review of which is separate) providing center channel, side and rear surrounds (5.1 system) with great sub- with ML Motion 4's used for front speakers, completing 7.1 system. Will say in the under $1000 class, sound quality is really exceptional considering speaker size and cost. This Denon produces very clean sound, although to achieve normally listened to volume, levels are higher on Denon 2000X than the Yamaha RX-V867 it replaced. The Denon's overall sound quality is cleaner without clipping or distortion- just sounds better. Bought from Crutchfield (best place considering their service) you will receive their sheets of labels to label all cables of all types (both ends) going to and from this receiver- Do it as it really saves time later if anything has to be disconnected/ connected to receiver (personally go one step further with a wiring diagram showing where the out/in are going to other equipment). For the money, this unit is hard to beat. If you have the budget, consider Denon's 4100X receiver- check the specs.

Pros: Denon AVR-X2000 has Audio Outs for a 7.1 speaker system, and has Audio out out to run audio to another room or outdoor area; however, this reduces you to a 5.1 system in main room. Ways around this with efficient speakers (doubling up on existing outs & line controls)- speak with Crutchfield techs on viability for your system and goal (another subject- outside review scope). Denon has all Dolby specs except new Atmos (up to 11 speakers, including ceiling). 6-HDMI OUT covers most folks needs

Cons: CON- No Manual (you get a CD; so if you want written material, be prepared to burn ink or powder printing 100+ pages). No Quick Start Guide for doing the connections- not a problem for someone with decades of experience- but a newbie should note CD issue. No con- just note this Denon has one sub out; which really isn't a problem if you have a good sub to begin with. Also, note: one HDMI out; again not a con unless you need to play another TV off this same receiver.

    Worked great for three weeks

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did a lot of research before deciding on purchasing the X2000. What sold me were the combination of upscaling from component, built-in AirPlay, the 7 HDMI inputs, and the loads of positive reviews. Setup was very easy, and once it was setup it was just a matter of updating the settings on my Harmony remote. Unfortunately, I was only able to enjoy the receiver for three weeks. It started to lock up - it would still be playing music and passing HDMI, but would not respond to the remote (even the Denon remote) or local button presses. I couldn't even turn the unit off without unplugging it! Crutchfield has been awesome in handling this issue, and is sending a replacement out ASAP. As for sound quality, I'd say it is slightly less smooth than my Denon AVR-2805 I've had for about 10 years. This is on the same B&W CM6 speakers I've used for the same time period. Fingers crossed that the replacement receiver doesn't have any issues.

    Pros: Easy setup

Cons: Quality? Sound quality might not be as good as older Denon models.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first receiver I've purchased. I've heard many other systems, some with amazing speakers, others with amazing receivers. I have been nothing but impressed with all that this receiver can do. Right now I have it setup with 5.1 in my living room and stereo speakers in my basement. It is amazing the power that it can put through both systems while maintaining clarity. I bought cheaper speakers to add onto this system, after the calibration through the microphone and built in program the speakers even sounded amazing. I am truly spoiled by my setup and I can't listen to regular audio anymore. Thank you to Crutchfield with the fast free shipping. I will be back!

Pros: Sound, power, clarity, features, network control.

    Cons: None so far!

This is the best receiver I ever purchased! I always went low end pioneers (2 of them) mainly only thing is they never lasted that long so I finally put out the bucks even though it is still pricey it is worth every penny. It makes my Klpisch speakers finally come alive and my bose surround:) I also like the network feature as well and no problems with buffering when hard wired.

Pros: Sound is 10x better than my previous receiver

    Cons: none at this time

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A solid buy for the price. Granted it does not have all the bells and whistles of a fresh off the assembly line newest model (i.e. wifi and Bluetooth). I have the receiver hard wired to the Internet and have not had any issues thus far. (Note I do not stream movies via Netflix). My main use for the receiver is music. I have over 9k songs on my iPod classic. The sound quality is top notch. At 95 watts per channel, 3 year warranty, and ease of setup, this is an absolute steal.

Pros: Sound quality Ease of setup

    Cons: None

I found that the setup was much easier, functionality/setup is easier and the sound is much warmer and more realistic than the Onkyo. For the price , it can't be beat --quite satisfied!! Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This denon is absolutely awesome. I got it to upgrade from a e300. It is a huge improvement. I have it paired with the full Andrew jones 7.2 system. I run a subwoofer wire splitter and the amp handles dual subs perfectly. I love the denon app as well on my iPhone. I love this amp so much my dad got one too after hearing my rave reviews.

Pros: Lots of power, snazzy app control, sleek simple design

Cons: I've been struggling to get the two zone feature to work intuitively. People will complain about the lack of wifi connectivity and the need to provide a wired Ethernet connection. This is easily circumvented by using a wireless router with a bidirectional Ethernet port. I use apple airport express.

Sound from musical sources Spectacular !!

Written by: SBandy from Dix Hills, NY on August 17, 2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far I've tested a few functions including sound reproduction from music sources - MP3s in my external USB drive, Pandora, Spotify..etc. Sound is spectacular and full. Bass is amazing and not overdone. I've tested with various DSP modes and I love the 2-channel stereo and Matrix the best for my 2.1 setup - X2000 with Front/Left Pioneer SP-FS52 and a Polk PSW10 sub. Airplay works flawlessly and Audyssey works great as well. It even works with a 2.1 setup when some of the others display an error if such calibration is run for a 2.1 setup. Although I haven't tested the Movie sound modes I'm pretty confident they will perform as well !! I'm a little skeptical about the HDMI/InOut connections in the X2000 since they didn't work with E300 and my Samsung 40" LCD TV with HDMI 1.3a ports when I connected a Sony DVD Player and Apple TV. I suspect it's because of the handshaking between the E300 HDMI ports and Samsung's HDMI ports. Otherwise, I'm in love with the receiver so far :)

    Denon AVR-X2000 IN-Command

Written by: Theatre Audio Technician from Central Minnesota on August 13, 2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Denon AVR-X2000 IN-Command receiver's audio quality has impressed me, especially as a "big" movie sound system. The quality of sound is superior to my previous receiver (Kenwood) easier to operate and half the price. I added a 100w powered Sub-woofer and the system can shake my couch, with great spacial separation.

Pros: Audio quality! Ease of use, Internet connect-ability, when turned off it will bypass itself and allow you to watch TV directly from the source. It has more HDMI inputs than you will need. It is also simple to set up and use.

Cons: Gets quite warm - it should have a fan or at least 8" of rack/shelf space in your entertainment cabinet. It doesn't have many different types of inputs, no composite, s-video or coaxial, only 1 optical but lots of HDMI. It does not send an audio signal to the TV speakers when on. No Bluetooth, but the internet connections can work around this. The remote can only control the receiver.

    Works as Advertised

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It replaced a top-of-the-line, but 15-year-old Yamaha...for music listening it doesn't quite drive my (admittedly power-hungry) speakers as I'm used to (bi-amp saves the day!!), but this receiver does sound good, renders movies well, and does the job I paid to get done. Considering the price I paid, I consider it a very good investment for my living room listening enjoyment.

Pros: Easy installation and initial setup. Ability to bi-amp mains. Simple remote control. Well rounded feature set. More inputs than any sane person would ever need, but back-plane doesn't feel overly cluttered.

Cons: Audyssey only gets you so far... Would like to be able to use different memorized EQ presets for movies vs music. Larger binding posts would have made heavy speaker wire installation a bit smoother.

Written by: RobM from SF Bay Area on August 11, 2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought as a replacement for an old Onkyo that was dying. The Denon AVR-X2000 IN-Command layout for connections is uncluttered and easy to find what you need. The setup procedure is easy to run and fairly comprehensive. The only flaw I found in the setup was getting it to recognize my sub woofer as being installed. It has built in internet radio, but if not using a subscription service I found it a bit difficult to navigate. It has all the dedicated HDMI input ports you could need, it has a network connection for input from other devices, and my favorite feature of all the controller does not need a degree from MIT to operate it.

Pros: Many hdmi inputs Easy to use controller Clean and efficient connection layout in back Big Plus: Comes with the excellent Crutchfield cable labels Great sound and easy to switch between one input and the next

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While I was shopping for an AVR, I was particular about a few things which guided my choices: - Priced under $450, and therefore need not be latest and greatest. - Must have Airplay so that my wife and I can both listen to music and control it with our Apple devices. - HDMI and USB option in the front. - A simple remote that is capable of advanced settings yet keeps things simple (I ask for a lot, I know). The AVR-x2000 delivered all of the above. -Crutchfield has the price at a sweet spot. -Airplay, which seems to garner some complaints here, works flawlessly for me. I'll explain my network setup below if it helps you discern whether the Airplay issues are related to hardware or how the owner chooses to set it up (could be both). -The remote keeps things simple. Network setup: I have the Denon hooked up to an ethernet switch, I bought on line, and my xbox hooked up to it as well and they are both hooked up to the wall. No problems whatsoever with connectivity. Sound quality is pretty impressive though I don't have anything to compare it to. My setup includes Klipsch RF-52II for fronts, RS-41II for surrounds, and sub = SVS PB-1000. Audyssey was probably the one thing that truly knocked my socks off. What a difference! Spending considerable time on avsforums reading up on things also helps dial things in and calibrate to your liking. Still deserves 4.5 stars in my book. Sound and Video quality is stunning, which is my primary requirement and it meets that we

Pros: What I really like: - Sound and Picture quality - Audyssey MultiEQ XT - Spotify built-in or via Airplay on my iPhone (!!) - Airplay - Being able to ask someone who wishes to audition my system what music they would like to listen to and search and play it on Spotify - can't believe we did things any other way previously, i.e., no longer will the words, "I don't have that album" be uttered! - Availability of codecs at this price point

Cons: What I feel could be better: - the web interface is a joke. At a minimum I hoped it would let me enter username and passwords for all internet apps (it doesn't). The only time I find myself using it is out of desperation and laziness when I can't find the remote. - how some options are buried within other settings requiring multiple "clicks", for instance "subwoofer level', i wish this was directly accessible via the remote. Hopefully remedied by a logitech harmony device. - runs warm

I'm pleased with the unit. I'm using it in my large living room with a Definitive XTR-SSA3, a ProSub 800 and some Klipsch speakers in the ceiling (zone 2 are Klipsch outdoor speakers). There are a few things I should have researched further but even though my expectations didn't match up with reality it is still a good receiver. 1. Audyssey setup truly is a time saver - you just move the supplied microphone around and follow the on-screen instructions and the receiver calibrates everything for you. 2. Zone 2 only works with analog signals which stinks if your cable box only has HDMI / optical outputs 3. Apple AirPlay vs. Apple TV - I wish they would make clear that the receiver does not support Apple TV Again, the unit is good I just didn't do a good job researching before I bought. I'm not sure it would have caused me to buy a different unit.

Pros: Easy to use, easy to setup, sounds great

Cons: Zone 2 only works with analog signals

The setup was incredibly easy if not frustrating. I went through the auto setup and I had to change polarity on several of my speaker even thou they were correct to begin with. I have a high end Yamaha subwoofer and during set up I had to set the volume to the max in order for the Denon receiver to recognize it. Which brings me to why I didn't give it 5 stars, no matter what I do I cannot get the subwoofer to work consistently.

Pros: Easy setup, Denon only gives you controls you need.

Cons: Subwoofer output not up to standards.

Right out of the box this receiver sounded so much better than my old Yamaha HTR-5850. I was never able to get the Yamaha to sound nice and clear with dialogue, no matter how many times I tried using all the settings available. This Denon is clear and I can easily boost the dialogue if I need to, but so far I haven't really needed to, that is, after running the very easy Audyssey setup. Overall, an excellent receiver.

    Pros: Easy setup Clear sound

Cons: A learning remote would have been nice. A switched outlet on the rear would have been nice to run some accessories like a cooling fan.

Denon AVR-X2000 Great Sound Quality at a value

Written by: ClydeO from Atlanta, GA on August 1, 2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently decided to buy an additional AV Given that I already own two feature packed receivers (wifi, and Bluetooth) I chose the AVR-X2000 based on a great price point ($100 cheaper than the Onkyo TX-NR 626), and a long time curiosity about Denon The X2000's Clean, Logical layout of the back panel made an immediate positive impression! Making the wire, and cable connections was much easier than on my Onkyo's. I set up the Audessy MultEQ® XT (an upgrade from the Audessy for the TX-NR626 and 828). It was simple, and worth the effort. It allows for optimizing the room for up to 8 seats. My first test was On Pandora and CD's with a variety of Genres of music. The sound was good, but appeared to only have 2 channel Stereo, and Dolby Pro logic as listening mode options. I knew that other options should have been available. Nothing clearly addressed this, so I called Crutchfield, and we figured it out! Apparently the full list of listening modes is only available after pressing, and holding either the Movie, or Music button down on your Remote. this will trigger a drop down menu of choices based on the signal/source you are listening to at that time. Once I figured this out, I soon found the Denon to have excellent Sound Quality and Flexibility. I used "The Man of Steel" Blu-Ray Opening Scene to test the Home theater, Great Discrete sounds using Master HD 7.1 format. Ships flying around the room- engaging, explosions -impactful! Great SQ at a Great Value

Pros: The ability to watch TV without the receiver being powered on. Initially connecting the speakers, and cables easier than any AV unit I've owned due to the uncluttered, logical layout of the back panel. Audessy version is more advanced at this price point than other brands (Audessy MultEQ® XT) The sound quality specifically signal separation in Movie soundtracks Multi-Channel Stereo plays louder, and in much richer tones

Cons: The extra options for processing the sound was difficult for me to find for Music, and Movies (jazz club, rock arena, for music, and Movies True HD etc) it was not in clearly outlined in the manual, so between me and a helpful Crutchfield Tech, we figured out that you had to hold down the "music" or Movie button on the remote to reveal a drop down menu with additional sound options. Not Cons, but if features are important to you: No WIFI,No Bluetooth,Not 7.2

    upgrade from dying Onkyo

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like many others, I fell victim to the notorious Onkyo HDMI failure problem. Always liked the Onkyo, but when my HDMI started failing I needed to replace it. I knew Denon had a solid reputation, and the AVR-X2000 was pretty loaded for the price point. I purchased a scratch and dent model with full confidence that if there was a problem, Crutchfield would have my back. There were no problems. Easy hookup - this unit can accept banana plugs on all outputs, even surround or zone 2 sections which is missing on other brands. I love the on-screen display -it's easy to get a feel for volume and adjustments. one minor annoyance: if you hold the volume up or down, it jumps fast. The old Onkyo had plenty of power, but this one has that and more, plus it sounds better. Movies and TV sound fantastic with very clear dialog. The surround and sub channels are very precise. Overall, it does sound awesome and definitely an upgrade from the Onkyo. I use a Harmony remote as should we all, so no real feedback on this remote control. The Denon app is fine - I use it on the patio for airplay/music adjustments and it works well. If I were to really reach and nitpick, there could maybe be one or two more optical or coaxial digital inputs, but that has more to do with me hanging onto old obsolete gear. For the money, at this price point with the features and performance levels, there is no competition. If you're in the market for a receiver, this is the steal to grab while you can.

Pros: Sound quality - very solid. Quality connections and clean back panel layout. Auto-setup works well to get you started and you can tweak and customize from there. Airplay, Pandora, USB, built-in networking - this thing really is loaded.

Cons: You've gotta really reach for "weaknesses". In the big picture, there really are none. Buy it!

Some things to know before you buy or hook up

Written by: Liz from Frenchtown, NJ on July 28, 2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Let me begin by saying, as a receiver, this functions well and has some very attractive bells and whistles that for the money are worth it. I purchased it because I read a review that mentioned that the Audessey calibration system offered 8 listening areas, where comparable systems only offered one or 2. Since I wanted to listen to music through my surround- sound system, I liked that this receiver had various options such filtering stereo sound through Dobly as well as the Jazz Club setting. It also offers a 2 zone system, which you can set up and listen to as a 7.1 system or as 2 separate zones. I hooked it up to a Bose speaker system, using a 5.1 theater speaker system and a separate 2 speaker stereo system, which I'm happy with.

Pros: Works equally well as a home theater system and a music system, with the ability to enhance music quality with options such as Dolby, Jazz Club, Rock Arena settings.

Cons: While set up is intuitive and relatively easy, there is a sizable learning curve, so be prepared to take time. The operating manual is more than 200 pages long, and the index is not intuitive, nor does it list topics based on the system attributes. It took me over an hour to find out how to work the music functions because it's not listed in the index. And whatever you do, DON"T AGREE TO UPDATE FIRMWARE, as it will send the receiver offline and keep it occupied for more than half hour.

Setup was easy. On screen display was intuitive enough to just pick through. The automatic setup with the included microphone was likewise easy and even handled my very simple setup (3.5 system). I only had to call to clarify setup of ARC - so all in all, I would call it an easy setup. As for sound, I came from an old Integra 5.3 which was pretty good for what it was. Sound is different of course so I'm getting used to that. So, I knew what I was buying and thus I don't have what I would consider unreasonable expectations - I know it isn't a $1,000 unit. Drives my EMP Tek E5Ti speakers and ES10i subwoofer with E5Ci center channel with ease. So, not the highest end speakers, but they do a good job with the unit. for the money it does a good job.

Pros: Easy setup, everything seems to work well

The tech support at Crutchfield provided some insight, but I have yet to figure it out so it is connected directly to my T.V. for the time being since removing the component from my stereo cabinet to get to the inputs takes time and effort.

I checked the reviews before I purchased this surround sound receiver and found very good and helpful reviews. When I received it I was amazed at easy it was to set up. I've owned a few other receivers over the years and found nearly all of them a bit more challenging. This Denon receiver was not only quite simple to set up but play and operate as well. As for the sound it cranks out I am equally impressed, excellent highs, lows and midtones. Even though we use it for our 5.1 surround sound home entertainment system we use it more for just listening to music. I also purchased it for the ability to hook up our patio speakers, too. Great purchase. Would highly recommend this.

I am very satisfied with the selection of this receiver to replace my 15+ year old Yamaha. Initial concerns of quality, sound and functionality with such an inexpensive unit were quickly eliminated once the unit was set up. This is a must consider for anyone looking for a new AV receiver at a great price.

Pros: 1. The unit was a breeze to configure and optimize, and the sound is surprising good with my old Infinity Reference series 5.1 speakers. 2. I was pleasantly surprised how well the Denon remote app works on my I-Phone and the supplied remote is very nicely laid out. 3. The internet connectivity works flawless and we love the ability to listen to Internet Radio via the receiver.

Cons: 1. Air Play is Audio only, so I have to keep my apple TV connected to view movies and applications from a Mac Book or IOS device. 2. FM reception was poor to say the least but a powered antenna resolved this problem. 3. The remote will not control other devices leaving us to keep multiple remotes handy. 4. The unit is throws off a considerable amount of heat and should have been equipped with a cooling fan.

This is the best receiver I've owned to date and the the price makes it that much better. You can have 5.1 and have 2 speakers in another room and listen to something different at the same time. Or 7.1 surround sound. This comes in hand especially for someone like me who has a REL Subwoofer (it wires up differently than a traditional subwoofer) I'm now able to have true 5.1 instead of 4.1. The pass through design is great for watching tv without having to turn on the surround sound or receiver. It also adjust to what your watching (stereo, Dolby, DolbyD)

Pros: You can watch tv (using tv speakers) without turning on the receiver.

Cons: The manual is on a CDROM, (no paper one) my computer is upstairs so that could be a little challenging when trying to adjust.

I've been using this for 3 months in my basement setup with a 5.1 Polk setup. It replaced on old Harmon Kardon that didn't have HDMI which became necessary when I got a bluray (yes the $100 purchase triggered more money being spent on this purchase). Now I run my cable and blu-ray through the receiver. Audyssey works really great. Now I clearly hear my back speakers. The caliberation makes a world of difference. One difference I've noticed is that you have to crank up the volume to like -10.0 db (feels like turning the knob to 7 on a scale of 1 to 10) to get full sound. I understand that volume increases exponentially, which feels right because 8 is like really loud. It doesn't really affect the performance, just have to get used to it. Overall very happy.

So I can only comment on a few things, since I'm not using the full potential of the receiver just yet. First off, the price is awesome for this great receiver, that was one of the main reasons why I jumped on this deal so early. The setup was easy and it didn't take long to figure out how to navigate thru the different modes and control the different zones. I really like the Denon Remote App I downloaded to my android for this receiver, I can control pretty much everything I need to listen to music, right on my patio. I am happy so far with this receiver. Looking forward to using its full potential when I get my surround sound speakers.

The first unit I received had a physical defect and Crutchfield immediately shipped a new unit and the exchange was easy and at no shipping cost to me. Setup was easy and the sound is great. Then I began having HDMI errors. The only way to get rid of errors was to perform a master reboot of the unit. I tried to perform Denon software updates but would always wind up with a 'communications failure' error and another master reboot had to done. The reboots were annoying because this meant all user settings were returned to factory defaults. After normal operation was restored, video drop outs would occur randomly and the cause became a mystery. During one drop out I noticed that a Denon update notice had occurred at the same time. I went thru the setup menu and disabled all update notifications and the unit has been operating perfectly for a couple of weeks. Overall, I love the unit and don't anticipate any future problems. I want to thank Crutchfield's tech staff for prompt service (only waited less than two minutes for all calls to be answered). I spoke to several representatives, but my main source was Travis. Travis is very knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and extremely patient. As equipment becomes more complex, having immediate live support is invaluable. No doubt that my future purchases will be with Crutchfield. Also, I found that Denon's first level service was prompt but when problem was elevated to level two support, never heard back from them.

This is my second Denon AVR and my last one was more than three World Cups ago. The setup has improved a lot and it is very easy even though I have upgraded all of my optic audio into HDMI audio. It also "upgraded" my 1080i and 1080p video into a near 4K video (I have a Sony Bravia high-end TV) and so I have a better audio and video experience.

Pros: Good value for the money. It also "upgrade" your video as well.

Cons: When you use the default video/audio pass-through (without using the amp), there is a 2 second delay but this is not a big deal at all.

This product has everything I expected and more! The air play feature is amazing, and the overall sound quality is excellent! I really am blown away by how clear everything sounds. The Audyssey sound really made a huge difference in my experience as well. I was losing so much tonal quality from my old receiver just because I didn't understand the EQ. It's nice that this does it all for me!

Pros: - Ease of use - Lots of HDMI inputs - Good price/value - Can control 2 zones independently - Audyssey sound

Cons: - Not many optical/coax/component/composite inputs (if that really matters when running HDMI)

The setup and sound from this receiver is quite good especially for the discontinued price. I replaced my outlaw audio separates with this receiver and it sounds slightly better, However, it heats fast when driving Polk LSIM 703 hard. I enjoyed the speaker setup using the mic to balance the speakers. It beats listening to tones and manually adjusting the speakers. One other problem is the lack of different inputs. There are plenty of HDMI inputs no problem there. But if you don't have the latest equipment and need more then one digital toslink or coaxial connects you are out of luck. For the new price this is a good receiver.

    Pros: Great sound, easy setup

Cons: Heats quick when pushed with good speakers, only one toslink and coaxial connects.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Truly a Value price which was listed for around $250 earlier. Has almost all convenient features you need except WiFi and Bluetooth. Maybe for small apartments or rooms or speakers which does not load the reeiver much, it will deliver good quality. I had AVR-3801 Denon from a decade and it still performs excellenr to my ears for music and movies. It does not have HDMI and Airplay which were my reasons to look for this receiver. Given huge positive reviews for this model and price on 2013 closeout was a no brainer decision. Once I hooked up, I could not match the sonic performance of AVR-3801 as much as I tried. Every music source or movie source and same speaker set always highlighted the lacking punch in this new model compared to the 3801. From pure spec point of view 95 watts per channel vs 105 watts per channel of 3801 did not seem to be much and I still believe there is some optimization and cost-cutting that probably is showing the sonic difference to my ears which may not be a problem for folks if not having a great receiver already you are replacing. I would have kept it if I could convince myself on the convenience it offered for HDMI and Airplay [if it was reliable]. Many nice thought out features like cutting Audio to HDMI output when receiver is on so that you do not have to worry on reducing TV volume when receiver is on a huge deal for ease of use. Standby passthrough and video upscaling did improve even the Satellite hdmi output to near 1080p.

Pros: Great HDMI integration and Standby Passthrough Price is great value Network features like DLNA, Internet Radio, Airplay [When it worked] Dialogue enhancement really works. Simplified Remote Video upscaling

Cons: Sound quality. Have to turn up almost to -20 db the upper range of the volume control and still fails to drive the speakers decently loud enough. Punch in the music is missing compared to older receivers [which was 10+ pounds heavier...could be the transformer used is weaker in newer ones]. Audyssey setup was lousy and I had to revert to defaults. Unreliable Airplay.

This is my first receiver. I only had a CD player for many years. I was searching for months and, coupled with a good price, purchased this about a month ago. So far the Airplay is its best feature for my use. I can be upstairs and control the music downstairs with ease. I also prefer Mediamonkey to play my concert files, which are all in FLAC. This is an easy add-on and works seamlessly. The app itself functions, though it's somewhat rudimentary. Monkeymote that I purchased is a huge benefit, as it'll display the artwork and lyrics, something that Denon's app does not do. The only problem I've had is the USB port in the front. Sometimes it doesn't read the files properly on my external HD and I have to unplug the system for ten seconds, and then it works perfectly again. It's frustrating that it's occurred once or twice already, but, perhaps because I've unplugged it several times (adding new music) it could add to the difficulties somehow. I also am probably one of the people that uses this without much concern for anything but audio. The fact that I need a TV (and not a monitor; the monitor shuts off when running setup) to get this thing up and running was a little bit much for me. Lugging a TV downstairs just for a setup was annoying.

    Pros: Ease of set-up; Airplay

Cons: USB is finicky at best.

You could spend a lot more, I don't know if you would get more for the money. In this day of disposable everything, why buy an excellent $1500 receiver to last for five to ten years... When you can buy a great $400 receiver to last the same amount of time and do the same thing. I asked myself how many of these features am I really going to use? Actually it had more features than I am currently using... I'm growing into it... It's a cool unit, dig the USB capability..

This Denon AVR-X2000 receiver replaced a 10 year old Harman/Kardon receiver that had problems from the beginning (power outlets not working, front panel buttons not working). High quality receiver, so very easy to set up with easy to follow on-screen instructions, took all of 20 minutes. Sound quality is amazing, and what I noticed most, right off the bat, was a fuller bass response & clarity, especially during broadcast of TV shows through the receiver (e.g., NBC news). This is paired with a Denon Blu Ray (the 1713), a 40" Sony LED TV, and Polk speakers. Very happy with purchase, and the discount sweetened the deal.

I had purchased a new 55 inch LED LCD Smart TV, some quality speakers and a subwoofer and was looking for something to drive them. I had been using the 5 CD changer that came with my previous low grade system. I also have cable, a Blu ray player, a flash drive player, a Hulu Plus account, and a Pandora account. The sound quality is majorly improved. The subwoofer is a 500w self driven model. The signal to it somehow allows it to perform much better. It has much more punch now and is less muddy sounding. This unit comes with a microphone that allowed the unit to compensate for the deficiencies in the room acoustics. I think that actually works well. The volume control on any remote adjusts the volume now which is cool. It took me awhile to figure out the personality of the unit. For some reason it has an issue with the audio signal coming from Smart TV when the TV is used for anything other cable signal. This problem could not be solved so I listen to Pandora through flash drive player and I also watch Hulu through flash drive player instead of the Smart TV and that solves the problem.

I used this receiver for about a day and knew it wasn't right for me. I read great reviews about it and won't detract anything from them. I just wasn't crazy about the build. The chassis, knobs and buttons felt like they belonged on a lower end unit. The X2000 didn't feel like a several hundred dollar receiver. I had tried an Onkyo in a similar price range and the build was a lot better. (The price was actually cheaper.) I know you wont be able to see the unit, especially if it's tucked away in a cabinet, but I just didn't feel like it was something worth keeping, especially for the price.

I purchased this amp to replace a system that sounded fine but had some problems and as time went on the major problem was that I needed more HDMI connections. This one has more that i *think* I will need. I'm really impressed with the easy setup using the included software. I've gone from a surround system with wireless rear speakers to just two front bookshelf speakers and a sub woofer but with that in mind it sound quite good. I plan to use the included mic to tailor the sound to the small room that it's in. So far everything just works and I've installed a firmware update. I like it.

Pros: Easy hookup from the diagrams in the documents in the disk (that I can read on OS-X), easy setup with the included software that also has hookup diagrams. Easy to use as well..

Cons: The firmware up date could have been described a bit better in the documentation but I figured it out pretty quickly.

After researching a few different Denon models (e400, x1000) vs. Yamahas in the same class (RX-V577, RX-V477), I made what I thought was a tough decision to go with the Denon. Looking back, the decision should have been an easy one. Setup was a breeze, and the Audyssey calibration software is top notch. Believe other reviews when they say the price of the receiver is worth it for this feature alone. The Airplay syncs up flawlessly to my iphone through Denon's app. The only downside that I would anticipate for others is that the receiver does not have wifi capabilities. This isn't an issue for me since my router is 2ft away, and I directly connect an Ethernet cable from the receiver to the back of the router. The x2000 provides plenty of power for my Klipsch RF-35's in front, and my RC-35 center channel. Brilliant sound, and an aesthetically pleasing design should also be noted. Like the title says - stop hesitating, and buy now!

Like many people I upgraded from a 10 year old Kenwood VR-7070 and what a difference. While the X2000 is rated for less power than my old receiver, the sound quality is much improved, thanks in no small part to Audessy MultiQ XT calibration. I used the bi-amp option for my Infinity Alpha 50 fronts which the Denon makes full use of. I don't have a sub-woofer so great bass from my front speakers is important. The other speakers sound fantastic too and film soundtracks are so much more incredibly wide open than they had been before. The networking is a nice feature. Pandora and internet radio are fun. I'm not an "i" guy so AirPlay doesn't service a purpose for me. Streaming directly from the media server on my computer is nice rather than having to go through another device. The remote app is fun, but would really shine in a 2 zone set up. The inputs are a bit overkill for me as I only connect my PS3 over HDMI and the optical audio out from my TV for over the air broadcasts. They don't make AVRs that sound this good with only a handful of inputs though. I am still getting used to the remote as it is about 10 times simpler than my old one. That makes it better for other people in my house to use, but I am not always a fan of needing to go in to the on screen menu to make a change while I am watching something. Also it is not a universal remote. Receivers are best when everything is set and you can sit back to enjoy. The x2000 will do that every time.

Pros: Amazing sound Bi-Amping Audessy "Silver" Smart Phone App Networking

Cons: Remote too simple sometimes and not universal.

A big step up from my old Pioneer Elite (11 yrs old) that was starting to frizzle out. Everything now routes through the receiver (Xbox, PS, cable) and that really makes set up / cable management so much nicer. The Audyssey XT is great...and I believe this is the lowest priced receiver with XT. The single best feature for my wife and I is the AirPlay...it is surprising how that one feature really pushed me over the top on loving this receiver. My current setup is 5.1 with Klipsch Reference speakers all around, and the 95 W is more than enough to drive these speakers in my large room. The unit is miles ahead of the Pioneer I had hooked up if your looking for one that accurately directs the sound to each channel. Not only that the sound it delivers is rich and smooth. This was the only reciever I found with Siriusxm installed. A plus for an avid NHL Radio listener. The only thing I was disapointed with was the fact that I had to hard wire Lan connection instead of wireless. The App that comes with it awesome, I can turn on the unit to anything and adjust from anywhere in the house. I still haven't figured out what some of the inputs mean and I wish I could rename them. This unit replaces a Pioneer Elite VSX-50. I simply ran out of HDMI inputs, routing speaker wires for connection seemed easier than the close and small ER ones on the Pioneer. Audyssey system took forever to measure eight different settings/places but worked well once it has the settings. The GUI is good also for everyday use. The sound is more robust and has no "Sharpness" but rather a more rounder warmth than the pioneer which had the same amount of watts going to the same Polk speakers. Yes the Pioneer could be tweaked to infinity and beyond with speaker settings, distance settings, crossovers, bit rates, et Al but I find the Denon does it all quite nicely and with a minimum of fuss and effort. It connects all my equipment flawlessly, the remote is good sized and doesn't have a hundred small buttons, it's well thought out, easy to use and I got big paws. Airplay is flawless with both pad and phone. In short, great power, good sound, easy to set up and use, ,good price point, I find that with the airplay I don't really have need for a Bluetooth module. There was one receiver I was looking at from another manufacturer, their 1040 model had great specs and even more watts but with over 38 pages on forum discussion of an hdmi problem rendering it a paperweight I went with the Denon and have not regretted it.

Pros: Shipped quickly, though I'm quite upset with ups who left a 700 dollar piece of equipment on my porch in the rain and couldn't be bothered to ring the doorbell, (great packaging!) As to the receiver it's solid, the right size, not too deep for a A/V cabinet that axed a couple of other brands. It sounds good which is what I bought it for.

Cons: Ummm still looking , it's only been three weeks but I'm impressed so far.

Compared to the newer Yamaha and Onkyo models, This Denon does sound the best most like real receivers/amplifiers from years ago. There is real boom and presence to the way the unprocessed sound is output with life and vitality in the music that was missing before with my other two Yamaha and Onkyo receivers. My subwoofer came alive and really punched with the amps on the Denon that Yamaha and Onkyo could only 1/2 replicate with still lifeless sound. This Denon had power and even though ratings less than Yamaha on paper were pointless by quality of sound to my ears and reaction of my wife to the loud, powerful force this amp puts out and sings to my speakers and subwoofers. The internet radio processor and menus are faster and have no delay like the others with quick response and no lag. I love the digital equalizer on this model too. I mostly run Dolby and real Stereo modes for music purity, and this Denon wakes up the soundtrack. The dynamic range of the Denon is stellar and acme. There is no equal to their components so far that I can tell.

Pros: Great circuitry and sound quality that sounded like a real amplifier with no processing and dullness. Good menu layout and video processor pretty good. The picture "looks" better on my TV from HDMI passed through to my Plasma from HD Cable.

Cons: If you live in an apartment, I would probably get another brand so you won't lose your lease. The Denon can get loud and very clean sounding. It doesn't mimic the sound of a real amplifier, it is a real amplifier and not something pretty or looks good on paper.

I went for the second zone, and can fill my house with sound. I love it. As an apple guy, the airplay is spectacular. I can start my livingroom stereo from bed in the morning, or from my truck when im in the driveway. There is now rarely ever a time when its not turned on. The downloadable apps give you even more detailed control. I rarely ever use the systems actual dedicated remote control! The sound is incredible thanks to the equalization assistant. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Denon replaced a Sony STR-DG720 in my Living Room. My main speaker are very large 3 way JBL L100t's with 12 inch drivers that have HUGE magnets. My center has dual 6.5 inch and my 4 in ceiling surrounds are two way 8 inch, all Polk Audio. Also a Polk 12 inch powered sub. The Sony has more power than the Denon (125wx7 vs. 95wx7), but the Denon AVR has no problems powering any of these drivers. The Denon also has the latest Dolby and DTS surround decoding. The Sony was lacking because of its age. I'm not sure if it's the AVR or the decoding, but the sound has noticeably improved with the upgrade. Even with FiOs (Optical in), watching everyday shows sound better, even the news. I watched Star Trek into Darkness again with the new AVR and what an improvement with the surround decoding, even the sub sounds better. The app interface on an IPad and a Samsung Note 8 that is running Android works well. I also have the app installed on my Android phone. (Had a blast messing with the kids when I was in the bedroom)! I am only giving it 4 stars because of the amount of digital audio inputs. (1 Tos link and 1 Coax)

Pros: Great sound - Lots of Power - User Friendly apps - Airplay - Internet connectivity.

Cons: Only 1 TOS link Optical input and 1 Coax audio input. Would have like to see 2 or 3 of each. Not exactly a deal breaker.

I bought this unit to replace a Denon AVR-1910 that had bit the dust after 8 years. Setup is a breeze with the onscreen setup walks you through every step from connecting speakers to adding your Blu-ray or Xbox. Sound quality is amazing after the audyssey setup. Some people claim it lacks power, I run it in 5.1 with a 10" powered sub and it will shake every window in my condo. It has 4K up scaling so it is ready for the new line of TV's hitting the market. Denon has impressed this user with the ease of operation and quality of this receiver in their new lineup. Two thumbs up, you won't be disappointed with it.

Pros: Airplay , Internet radio, Ethernet connection, IPhone and Ipad remote apps, easy to setup and use.

Cons: No WiFi otherwise it rocks!!!

This is a beautifully engineered piece of equipment. The set-up was a snap, the number of built in sources a pleasant surprise, the connectivity is a dream come true and the sound I get from it is absolutely beautiful. And, a side note, it was less expensive from Crutchfield than other online retailers. I HIGHLY recommend this receiver.

Very strong performance, very good feature assortment. Sounds great. Ease of use impressive considering range of features. Lack of wifi and Bluetooth not important. This receiver should be connected by wired Ethernet for best streaming. The simple remote is great, but it should be lit - the only annoyance.

    Pros: Sound, operational simplicity

    Cons: Remote should be lit.

    Great Amplifier

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A very nice Amplifier, especially for the money. The surround sound is wonderful. It's a pain to use the Zone 2 speakers and the instructions are very poor. Too many buttons to push to get the sound to come out. I have to go into the back room to verify that the speakers are actually working. I'm not real happy about a few other things such as no WiFi and having only one USB port - - and that's on front of the amplifier. If you use a YWA-10 wireless network adapter you'll have to connect to the USB on the front and this looks cheap. This adapter does however work well. I wish Denon had spent a few more dollars on fixing the above and the results would thus be wonderful.

Pros: Great sound - especially surround sound Can hear the words during an action movie without constantly adjusting the volume Price

Cons: No Wi-fi Only one USB which is on the front of the amplifier Poor instructions, 220 pages which you have to work with on your computer.

This receiver replaced our wonderful 12 year old Sony ES series, and it was necessary because of the need for HDMI input switching. But we did not anticipate how great the remote control via Iphone app was. This Denon beat the comparable new Sony because it had the ability for powered Zone 2 speakers using the Surround Back speaker outputs.

Pros: Good apps for Iphone and Ipad. Zone 2 speakers.

Cons: Lack of phono preamp (which has become normal for receivers in this price range), no front analog Aux inputs.

When it comes to sending out seriously amazing sound, the Denon works amazingly well. I paired it with Klipsch speakers and now enjoy new levels of clarity in my movie watching experience. Unfortunately, many of the features require a hard line Ethernet connection to use (the Denon app, Airplay, etc.)

    Pros: Sound, up convert capabilities

    Cons: Need a hard line.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this Denon receiver! I also have last year's model, the AVR-1713, for my finished basement setup. My upstairs Sony receiver died and I needed something that could drive a second set of speakers for my patio. This was the newer Denon model of what I had downstairs, and I liked my other Denon so I bought this one. I really like the app because I can turn on Pandora or stream music from my network without having to turn on the TV. I can even do it while I'm outside on the patio (as long as I have my phone with me). I hooked this up to my older Sony speakers for the time being, and it still sounds great. The surround from my DVR and Blu-ray sound better, possibly due to the Audussey setup (which was simple). I would highly recommend this Denon receiver.

Pros: Easy setup with Audussey mic. Great mobile app Can configure 7.1 speakers for 5.1 plus B speakers

Cons: Pricey for a low-mid range setup Doesn't appear to have the Party Mode that my other Denon does (lower model, just from last year)

The Denon AVRX2000, like other receivers from Denon, is well built and nice looking. The on screen guide makes it easy to set up and operate. With 95 watts RMS per channel, dual room capability, plus a large list of other features, it has everything I was looking for. The price made this receiver an excellent choice. Thank You Crutchfield for great pricing, availability, fast free 3 day shipping!

Pros: A long list of features, and easy to operate.

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I usually purchase the top of the line AV receivers form Denon. My last was the 3808i. This time I decided to got mid range. While not all the bell and whistles that the 3808i had, this receiver puts out with more than enough power and options for control of speakers, video and inputs. Using Auddissey sound balance is easy. This more then fit the bill and with the usual Denon quality of sound it is perfect.

Pros: Simple operation, mid range cost with high end results. Great sound quality matched up to Bose speakers. Easy control of the inputs for all my devices. Easy setup.

Cons: Miss a universal remote. Coupled it with Logitech's Harmony (great remote by the way!) Display not as complete as I would like, but I did drop down from a 3808i.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good unit for the money. Much improved remote over prior models. Restorer function for compressed audio embellishes too much and needs to be disabled. Zone 2 pre-amp outputs do not output analog version of digital (HDMI) source input unless you jump through an extra hoop and use OPTION-->All Channel Output. It would have been better if the zone 2 pre-out when set to source automatically did this. The only digital sources that will be routed to zone 2 without the extra hoop to jump though is Network and iPod. Network (Pandora, Internet Radio) functions work well. iPod connection via USB frequently has problems syncing up. I find I have to physically remove and reset the iPod for it to work properly; no connection errors are frequent. Software for iPod integration really needs some work as garbled/distorted audio happen on occasion (change track or move around and it goes away). iPod/iPad remote works well. Volume control on app should be improved. All in all, very nice unit that gets high points for value.

    Pros: Performance, Inputs, Value

Cons: Software glitches in iPod integration, Zone 2 pre-out source control

Denon AVR X-2000 Hits the Mark

Written by: Barry from Williamsburg, VA on June 6, 2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been a proud owner of Denon products for decades and I never hestitated to buy again when I needed a new AVR. The timing was perfect with the release of the new Denon X-series AVRs and I'm extremely please with my selection of the X-2000 (right size/power, featurs/specs, and price). The Audyssey MultEQ XT speaker setup was a breeze and very userfriendly, the HDMI and ARC functions are superb, and the sound is great. Although there's no built in Wifi capability, the Ethernet connection (assuming you have one available) is a snap. I think there's a Wifi adaptor/plug alternative available as well. I have the X-2000 setup with the new 60" Samsung F8000 LED, Motorola DVR (via Cox Cable), Oppo BDP-103 Blu-ray player, and the Infinity TSS-750 speaker system (5.1 setup). Overall, everything's working well and sounds great but I'm still learning all component features and capabilities to achieve a fully integrated setup. My only beef with the HDMI ARC setup between the Samung F8000 and X-2000 is with the Samung Smarthub NETFLIX app - you can't hear the sound through the 5.1 speakers (only TV sound). I've been told that connecting an optical cable from the TV (Audio Out) into the X-2000 may solve that problem. Instead, I'm successfully playing NETFLIX (full 5.1 sound) via the Oppo Blu-Ray's application. Although I haven't yet tested all of the X-2000's features, I am very please with this purchase.

    Pros: Quality, Setup, and Price.

    Cons: None at this time.

    Audio Features

Equal Power Amp Design w Discrete Circuitry: The Denon AVR-X2000 is equipped with a 7 channel power amplifier rated at 95-watts (into 8-ohms, at 20-20kHz, with 0.08% THD, driving 2 channels) that reproduces high-fidelity sound in surround mode with equal quality and power for all channels, true to the original sound. The power amplifier circuit adopts a discrete-circuit configuration that achieves high-quality surround sound reproduction. To faithfully reproduce the original surround sound, each of the Denon AVR-X2000's seven channels are equipped with its own high-current power amp of equal power. Since these power amps also use discrete circuits configured with parts strictly selected for their contribution to high sound quality, rather than with low-cost integrated circuits (ICs), the surround sound playback is of impeccably high quality.

Amplifier Assignment: The AVR-X2000's seven discrete amplifier channels can be configured to accommodate your type of home theater setup.

    • Surround Back: The AV receiver's amplifier channels can be configured as Front Left/Right, Center, Surround Left/Right, and Surround Back Left/Right for Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx 7.1ch playback.
    • Bi-Amp: You can configure the amplifier for front bi-amp operation to achieve a higher-quality 2-channel sound by connecting the receiver's front and surround back channels to your main front speakers (if compatible). Receiver will be limited to 5.1ch surround.
    • Front B: A second set of front speakers can be powered by the surround back amplifier. Receiver will be limited to 5.1ch surround.
    • Front Height: The receiver's amplifier channels can also be configured as Front Left/Right, Front Height Left/Right, Center, and Surround Left/Right for Dolby Pro Logic IIz 7.1ch playback.
    • Zone2: In addition, the AVR-X2000's amplifier channels can be configured as Front Left/Right, Center, Surround Left/Right, and Zone 2 for Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II 5.1ch playback in the main zone and 2ch PCM playback in the second zone.

24-bit/192-kHz DACs: This receiver is equipped with 24-bit/192-kHz DACs for all channels to decode and playback high-resolution recordings with less jitter and  clearer sound.

32-Bit Processing DSP: The Denon AVR-X2000 is equipped with an Analog Devices 32-bit DSP for powerful and highly accurate surround sound reproduction.

Multi-Channel Decoding Formats: The Denon AVR-X2000 AV receiver supports the following multi-channel (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic) decoding formats.

Note: Dolby Digital and DTS listening modes can only be selected if your audio source is connected to the AV receiver via a digital audio connection (HDMI, optical, or coaxial). To enjoy true 7.1ch Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS-HD surround sound, the receiver must be connected to your Blu-ray player via HDMI.

Denon Original Listening Modes: Denon's Original Listening Modes, combined with Dolby Digital/DTS/Dolby Pro Logic processing, produce more realistic, powerful sound effects for your movie and music sound tracks based on the type of content and your home theater setup. You can choose from the following:

    • Rock Arena: For rock and popular music sources, this mode surrounds you with reflected sound of the kind you would hear at a live concert.
    • Jazz Club: This mode recreates the atmosphere of a live house where the ceiling is low and you are enveloped with rich doses of reflected sound.
    • Matrix: With this mode, you can add rich reflected sound to 2-channel stereo music sources where reflected sound is normally not audible.
    • Video Game: This mode is suited for achieving surround sound with video games..
    • Mono Movie: This mode is used when you listen to recorded monaural sound sources such as AM radio broadcasts or news programs from the center speaker.
    • Virtual: Enjoy surround effects using only the front speakers or set of headphones.
    • Multichannel Stereo: Left and right stereo channels are distributed to all the speakers so that stereo sound can be heard from all directions at any listening position.
Note: This unit automatically generates a list of all the playable sound modes based on the input audio format and the current speaker setup configuration and displays the list on the screen. Therefore, you can select a correct surround playback mode even if you are not familiar with sound mode selection.

Direct Listening Modes: The Denon AVR-X2000 offers two Direct Listening Modes which bypass the receiver's tone & DSP processing for higher sound quality performance. Direct Mode provides playback of 2ch or Multichannel audio in its original form, without any surround or tone processing. Pure Direct Mode goes a step further by turning off the receiver's display and analog video circuitry to minimize the possibility of any noised being added to the audio signal.

Audyssey Technology: The AVR-X2000 features a full package of Audyssey audio technologies for optimal sound quality. Audyssey Dynamic Volume offers real-time volume adjustment, while Audyssey DynamicEQ improves your system's surround effects during low volume levels. Audyssey MultEQ automatically sets speakers to suit your room's listening environment and the speakers' characteristics.

    • Audyssey MultEQ: Audyssey MultEQ technology helps create an optimal acoustic profile for your home theater. Using the included setup microphone, Audyssey MultEQ measures sound levels and adjusts speaker configuration accordingly, making setup fast and easy. This room acoustic measuring and correction system analyzes (via the included microphone) the audio characteristics of your speaker system and your listening environment at up to 6 measurement points and automatically tailors the sound for top audio fidelity. You can set the Audyssey MultEQ to one of the following modes.
      • Audyssey: Optimizes the crossover point, output level, delay time, and equalization of all speakers based on speaker frequency response, speaker location, and room acoustics.
      • Audyssey Bypass L/R: Optimizes all speakers except front left and right.
      • Audyssey Flat: Optimizes frequency response of all speakers to flat.
      • Manual: Adjusts the tonal quality for each speaker individually using the manual equalizer settings; 63 Hz, 125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz, 8 kHz, and 16 kHz (-20dB to +6dB).
      • Off: Turns equalizer off.
    • Dynamic EQ: Audio engineers mix music and movie soundtracks at reference levels much louder than typical home listening levels. At lower volumes the human ear perceives sound differently; voices change, bass dissipates, and the surround effect becomes less enveloping. Dynamic EQ adjusts the frequency response curve based on volume to maintain consistent bass output, octave-to-octave balance, and surround impact, resulting in rich sound at any volume. You can set the Dynamic EQ to 0, 5, 10, or 15 dB.
    • Audyssey Dynamic Volume: Audyssey Dynamic Volume solves the problem of large variations in volume level between television programs, commercials, and between the soft and loud passages of movies. Dynamic Volume addresses the issue of commercials that are too loud and movie soundtracks with vast differences between soft and loud passages; the results are more intelligible dialogue, loud passages maintain impact, and soft whispers are heard clearly. When the volume level changes, Dynamic EQ also adjusts the frequency response to maintain sound quality. You can set the Dynamic Volume to Day (low), Evening (middle), Midnight (high), or off.

Surround Parameters: You can adjust the following surround mode parameters:

    • Dolby Pro Logic II Music Settings: While listening in the Dolby Pro Logic II Music format, there are three further enhancements you can adjust:
      • Panorama: Broadens the front stereo image to the surround speakers to provide a wraparound effect, especially effective when there is limited output from the surround channels, panorama can be turned on/off in the menu.
      • Dimension: Allows you to move the sound field forward or backward.
      • Center Width: Allows you to adjust the width of the center channel.
    • Center Image: In the Neo:6 Music mode, the Center Image feature adjusts the output of the left and right channels relative to the center channel, allowing you to make the center channel more or less dominant as needed. This improves the image of the center channel, especially when the listener is off-center. Adjustment varies from 5 (nothing subtracted from the L/R channels) to 0 (L/R channel output is cut in half).
    • Denon Original Surround Mode Settings: While listening in one of the Denon Original Surround Modes, there are three further enhancements you can adjust:
      • Room Size: This feature allows you to set the size of your desired acoustic environment when using specific Denon Original Surround Modes; select Small, Medium small, Medium, Medium large, or Large.
      • Effect Level: This function adjusts the effect signal level from 1 to 15 when using specific Denon Original Surround Modes.
      • Delay Time: This feature adjusts the delay time (0-300ms) to control the sound stage size.
    • Height Gain: Adjust the volume (Low/Mid/High) of the Front Height channels in Dolby Pro Logic IIz.

Audio Enhancements: The Denon AVR-X2000 receiver provides various audio enhancements to deliver a high-quality listening experience every time.

    • CINEMA EQ (Cinema Equalizer): The Cinema EQ function gently decreases the level of the extreme high frequencies, compensating for overly-bright sounding motion picture soundtracks. Select this function if the sound from the front speakers is too bright. This function only works in the Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic (including PL II, PL IIx, PL IIz), and DTS Neo:6 modes.
    • Restorer: Compressed audio formats such as MP3, WMA (Windows Media Audio), and MPEG-4 AAC reduce the amount of data by eliminating signal components that are hard for the human ear to hear. The Restorer function generates the signals eliminated upon compression, restoring the sound to conditions near those of the original sound before compression. It also corrects the sense of volume of the bass to obtain richer sound with compressed audio signals.
    • Dynamic Range Compression (DRC): Motion picture soundtracks have tremendous dynamic range (the contrast between very soft and very loud sounds). For listening late at night, or whenever the maximum sound level is lower than usual, Compressing the dynamic range allows you to hear all of the sounds in the soundtrack with reduced dynamic range. DRC works when playing program sources recorded in Dolby Digital or DTS.
    • Tone Settings: You can independently adjust the system's overall Bass and Treble settings from -6 to +6 dB.

Volume Settings: The AVR-X2000 offers the following volume settings.

    • Volume Scale: You can choose to display an Absolute volume scale (0-98) or Relative volume scale (-79.5 to 18dB).
    • Volume Limit: You can set a maximum volume level of 0, -10, or -20 dB to limit the receiver's total volume output.
    • Power On Level: You can define the volume setting that is active when the power is turned on (0, 1-98, -79 to +18dB, or Last)
    • Mute Level: You can set the amount of attenuation for the audio muting circuit; -40dB or -20dB below current volume, or full mute (sound turned off entirely).

Level Adjustments:  The AVR-X2000 provides the following level adjustments.

    • Source Level: This function adjusts the playback level of the currently selected input source's audio input. Use this feature if there are differences in the input volume levels between different sources. You can correct the playback level of the audio input from -12 to +12dB.
    • Dialogue Level: You can adjust the output level (+/-12dB) to clarify the dialogue output from the center channel.
    • Subwoofer Level: You can set the receiver's subwoofer output level (+/-12dB) independent from the other speaker levels and system's main volume.

Audio Inputs/Outputs: The Denon AV receiver offers a variety of analog and digital audio inputs/outputs.

    • Assignable Digital Inputs: The AVR-X2000 features an optical digital (Toslink) input and a coaxial digital input. Each input can be assigned to any of the different input sources except Tuner.
    • Speaker Terminals w/ Color Labels: The receiver has binding-post terminals for all speaker connections. The binding-polst terminals can accept bare wire, pin connectors, and banana plugs (single/dual). The receiver will accept speaker impedances of 6 to 16-ohm. The AV receiver comes with color labels to easily identify which channel a speaker cable should be connected to. Since the speaker cables have labels in the same colors as the connectors on the AVR-X2000's rear panel, there's no longer any confusion about which terminals they should be connected to.
    • Headphones: When headphones are plugged into the full-size 1/4" jack on the front panel, all the speakers are automatically muted.

    Video Features

HDMI (v1.4): With seven HDMI v1.4 inputs (6 rear/1 front), the AVR-X2000 allows you to route multiple high-definition devices, such as your Blu-ray player and cable/satellite receiver, to your TV. It also allows you to connect all of your devices to your TV with a single HDMI cable (via its HDMI monitor output), reducing cable clutter. The HDMI inputs are assignable to different input sources. The receiver's HDMI v.1.4 jacks are compatible with 1080p/24Hz & 4K video, 3D video signals, Deep Color & x.v.Color technology; as well as LipSync, ARC, and HDMI control.

    • 3D Pass-Through: With the advent of 3D media, it is important to own a receiver that recognizes 3D video signals. The AVR-X2000 is able to pass through 3D signals from your Blu-ray player, ensuring that the 3D effect doesn't get lost in translation. It also recognizes signals from 3D television broadcasts. By connecting a 3D-compliant Blu-ray disc player and 3D-compliant TV to the AVR-X2000, you will have a 3D home theater where you can enjoy high-definition sound and video on a level you've never experienced before.
    • Deep/x.v.Color Support: The AVR-X2000 also supports Deep Color and x.v.Color content, which can display a larger color range than standard-definition schemes. The result is a more lifelike, vibrant picture.
    • LipSync: If needed, the audio signal can be manually delayed to match the video signal; adjust from 0-200ms.
    • ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to your receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.

4K Pass-Through + Video Upconversion: The Denon AV receiver's Analog Device 12-bit video processor (ADV8003) supports pass-through of 1080p/24Hz and 4K Ultra HD video. This sophisticated video processor also provides upconversion from standard definition (480i/480p) and high definition (720p/1080i1080p) sources to 4K Ultra HD (3840x2160 pixels), which lets you connect all your analog (composite/component) or digital (HDMI) video sources to the AVR-X2000 and then connect to your HDTV with just a single HDMI cable.

HDMI Standby Pass-Through: When enabling the HDMI Standby Pass-Through function, regardless of whether the AV receiver is "On" or in "Standby" both audio/video streams from an HDMI input will be output to your television, via the receiver's HDMI monitor output. You can select between three HDMI through function modes.

    • HDMI Input: Selects the HDMI Input (1-4) for which the HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is enabled.
    • Last: The HDMI Standby-Through function is activated on the input source selected at the time of setting the AV receiver to the "Standby" mode.
    • Off: The HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is disabled.

Analog Video Inputs: The receiver features two composite video inputs and one component video input. These analog video inputs are output to your television via the receiver's HDMI monitor output. The receiver does not offer composite video or component video outputs.

Picture Mode: The receiver provides Picture Mode to adjust the picture quality for your viewing content and environment. You can select from Standard, Movie, Vivid, Streaming, Custom, or Off. The Custom mode lets you manually adjust Contrast, Brightness, Saturation, Hue, Noise Reduction, and Enhancer (sharpness).

Video Select Function: While listening to Network/Tuner/USB content, you can switch the receiver's video input so you can display video while listening to an audio source.

    Convenience Features

On-Screen GUI w/ Setup Assistant (via HDMI): The AV receiver's on-screen display (GUI) provides information about your system's settings (with video overlay). The on-screen graphical display combines large, clear text and icons, so you can easily make all necessary adjustments and settings during setup, to quickly and easily optimize the AVR-X2000 for your particular speaker setup and source equipment. The exclusive Denon Setup Assistant easily walks you through the whole process. When you control the sound volume, the volume level is displayed on-screen, and when you switch the input source, the name of the input source is also displayed on-screen. The on-screen menu can only be output to your TV via HDMI.

Multi-Source/Multi-Zone: The Denon AVR-X2000 offers Zone 2 and All Zone Stereo functionality for playback of audio in two separate rooms of your home.

    • Zone 2: Denon's Zone 2 function lets you select a different audio source for listening in a second location of your home. The AVR-X2000 features a Main Zone (audio/video) and Zone 2 (audio only). The Main Zone offers 7.1-channel playback of your audio/video gear in your main entertainment room. Zone 2 allows stereo audio playback of another source connected to the receiver in another room of your home via left/right RCA audio or speaker level outputs. When using the AVR-X2000 to power speakers in a second room of your home, the main zone is restricted to 5.1-channels. When using the receiver's line output terminals for the second room you need an additional amplifier to power those speakers; the main Zone of the receiver remains 7.1-channel. The volume of Zone 2 can be controlled by the Denon receiver using either configuration or from your add-on amplifier when using the line-output.
      • Compatible Zone Sources: Only tuner, analog, USB/iPod, and Network/AirPlay sources can be played in Zone 2. You cannot select different AM/FM radio stations or different Network content for different zones.
      • Incompatible Zone Sources: It is not possible to play the digital audio signals from the HDMI, Coaxial, or Optical terminals in Zone 2. Video cannot be sent to Zone 2.
    • All Zone Stereo Function: The All Zone Stereo function allows you to enjoy the AV receiver's Main Zone audio source in Zone 2 simultaneously (regardless of input audio signal types; analog or digital). During the All Zone Stereo, 2ch playback is automatically selected for all zones and each zone will play at the same volume level. This is useful when you want to enjoy the same music at the same time in multiple rooms during a get together or party.

Front-Panel Display Dimmer: The receiver features 4 display settings for the front-panel LCD window; Bright, Dim, Dark, and Off.

Quick Select: The receiver's front-panel has four Quick Select buttons. Each button can be programmed with a specific input source, surround mode, and volume setting for easy recall.

Source Rename/Hide: You can change the display name (up to 8 characters) of a selected input source. If an input isn't being used, you can hide it from the display so you don't have to scroll past it when you change sources.

Text Search: You can search Internet Radio, USB, and DLNA content using keyword searches from the AV receiver's on-screen menu and remote control.

Slide Shows/Picture View: You can play back still image (JPEG) files stored on a USB memory device or media server and pictures on Flickr website as a slide show. The display time can also be set. You can also play back music and a favorite picture at the same time via USB, Internet Radio, or Media Server.

Personal Memory Plus: For each input, the receiver automatically memorizes the settings for input mode, surround mode, HDMI output mode, audio delay, etc. When the input source is switched, the settings last used for that source are automatically recalled. The surround parameters, tone control settings, and playback levels for the different output channels are memorized for each surround mode.

Protection Circuit: This is a function to prevent damage to components within the power supply when an abnormality such as an overload, excess voltage, or over-heating occurs. In this unit, the power indicator blinks and the unit enters standby mode when an abnormality occurs.

Timers: The receiver features a programmable Sleep Timer and Auto Standby function.

    • Sleep Timer: This function allows you to automatically set the power to standby after a predetermined amount of time has passed; set the sleep timer up to 120 minutes in 10 minute increments.
    • Auto Standby: The unit enters standby mode automatically when no commands are sent to the unit for the set time (30 or 60 minutes). Before it enters the standby mode, "Auto Standby" is displayed on the front-panel display of this unit and the on-screen menu.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The AVR-X2000 comes with an IR wireless remote control that can operate this receiver only. The remote control features Glow keys so it can easily be used in the dark.

HDMI Control: The Denon AVR-X2000 can control select external audio/video components connected via HDMI which support HDMI control. When you make an HDMI connection with a TV or player compatible with the AVR-X2000's HDMI control function, you can perform the operations from the AVR-X2000's remote control; Power off, Switching of audio output devices, Switching of audio input devices, Volume adjustment, and Playback functions.

Denon Remote App: The Denon Remote App lets you control the Denon Network A/V receiver using your Apple iOS or Android device. Simply download the free Denon Remote App from the iTunes App Store for the iPod touch/iPhone/iPad (iOS 4.3+), or download the free Denon Remote App from Google Play for your compatible Android device (1.5+). The AV receiver will need to be connected to the same network as your Apple iOS or Android device. This free Remote App lets you control the Denon A/V receiver's basic functions (power, volume, input, surround modes) from your Apple iOS or Android device. You can even navigate the A/V receiver's network and Internet content from your compatible Apple iOS or Android device. For added convenience, there are eight customizable home screen short cut buttons that allow you to tailor the look and function of the Denon Remote App to suit your needs.

Custom Integration: The AVR-X2000 is part of Denon's IN-Command series line-up of receiver, which is Denon's certification to custom installers that the receiver has advanced connectivity and control features often required for custom home integration and theater applications using premium control systems. These features include a RS232C jack for use with whole house control systems and remote in/out IR command control.

    • RS-232C Port: Port for connection to external whole-house control systems, from companies such as AMX, Crestron, etc.

I do not own any Apple products so I cannot say if it does. [ Richard  Aug 19, 2014 ]
I would imagine, the iPhone and iPad have a Denon app [ MATT J  Aug 19, 2014 ]
Yes, as long as you download the Denon App. This receiver is awesome, with the right speakers it will make tou think you are watching movies in a theater. [ CHI WING  Aug 19, 2014 ]
The App states iPad and Iphone and doesn't mention Itouch. I have both the phone and pad and it works seamlessly with those. I don't believe the Touch has the required hardware to work with the receiver. Maybe contact Denon support, they respond to questions very quickly. [ KEVIN ANDREW  Aug 19, 2014 ]
I would think so. I have an iPhone and the Denon remote app works great. It works using the wireless network, so as long as you have the receiver connected to your wireless network, it should work fine. [ MICHAEL  Aug 19, 2014 ]
iTunes has a denon app that works with iPhone 5. Check iTunes for iPod comparability. [ CRAIG  Aug 19, 2014 ]
I have not tried at all. We have an all in one that takes care of everything from anywhere on the property. I will tell you I LOVE the airplay feature. Good luck [ BRIAN  Aug 19, 2014 ]
Yes, you can. As long as you have and iPod Touch that can run the Denon Remote app, is connected to your wifi network, and the X2000 is also connected to the same network. There are also some 3rd party apps that will control it such as DeRemote. [ ADAM L  Aug 19, 2014 ]
I believe so. If you go to the Crutchfield listing and look at the picture of the back you will see a section labeled "Pre-Out" for both sub-woofer and Zone 2. I believe you can slave Zone to to the master source and use as the feed for your other amp. Call the tech line at Crutchfield - they are awesome. I am very pleased with my purchase.
