About the Denon DP-29F

Tom Mathew

A turntable with convenient connections and easy operation

Dust off those vinyl records and put them back into your listening rotation with the DP-29F turntable from Denon. Even if your receiver or amp does not have a phono input, this versatile turntable will play through your system — you don't even need a phono adapter. The DP-29F includes a built-in phono preamp, so you can hook it up to your system through a standard analog connection. But if your receiver does have a phono input, and you'd prefer to use it, a small switch beneath the platter disengages the preamp.

The DP-29F features an automatic system that starts the music with a simple touch of a button. When the record is finished, the tonearm automatically returns to its original position. By eliminating the need to handle the tonearm manually, you dramatically minimize the chances of inadvertently scratching your records. There's also a manual lifter mechanism that allows you to place the needle on the record wherever you want, just in case you'd like to skip to a song in the middle of a side. And for solid, dependable playback, the DP-29F has been precision manufactured with rigid diecast aluminum for perfectly stable turntable rotation.

Product Research

Features

High-precision Diecast Aluminum Turntable: The turntable has been precision manufactured with a rigid diecast aluminum to produce uniform inertial mass for perfectly stable turntable rotation, an essential component of high fidelity sound during playback.

Automated System for Easy Operation: The DP-29F employs an automated system that starts playing the record with the single touch of a button and finishes play at the end of the record by returning the tone arm to its original position and stopping turntable rotation. This system ensures that you do not inadvertently scratch your records when you play them.

Manual Operation: The DP-29F also has a manual lifter mechanism that allows you to place the needle on the record wherever you want, just in case you'd like to skip to a song in the middle of a side.

Built-in Phono RIAA Equalizer: Since the DP-29F includes a built-in phono RIAA equalizer, you can connect the unit to an amplifier or receiver that does not have a phono preamp input without the use of an adapter. If your receiver does have a phono input, and you'd prefer to use it, a small switch beneath the platter disengages the built-in phono equalizer.

33-1/3 and 45 RPM Compatible: The turntable will play at 33-1/3 and 45 rpm speeds. An adapter is included for playing 45 rpm records.

MM Cartridge Included: The DP-29F comes with a fixed mount MM (moving magnet) cartridge so you may enjoy your record collection as soon as you connect the DP-29F to your home stereo system. After approximately 400 hours of playback, Denon recommends the stylus be replaced with the DSN-82 stylus.

Output: The turntable has a hardwired output cable with left and right male RCA plugs. These can plug directly into your receiver or amplifier. There is no need for patch cables.

Q
Can this turntable DP-29f or other be used with wireless speakers?
brian  Aug 02, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Brian, and thank you for your question. Out of the box, no. You can add a wireless kit for around $150 and connect the transmitter to the Denon, and the receiver to a pair of powered speakers. Or, we have turntables that work with Sonos wireless speakers, one from Yamaha that works with their wireless speakers, and a few options with Bluetooth, and then use Bluetooth speakers from any manufacture. Give us a call at 800-324-9695 to discuss what might be best for you.

We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question.

Q
Please forgive my lack of knowledge but I do not know what the cartridge is and from what I have read, I still need a receiver and another set of speakers. Is this correct? I was hoping to plug the turntable in and Bluetooth my speakers. Is this an option?
jim  Sep 09, 2020
4 answers
A
No, you have to have a receiver and speakers. it's a nice turntable. The one thing I don't like is it drops the needle. I would prefer one that sets it down gently.
jonathan e.  Sep 10, 2020
A
Yes you will need a receiver to hook up the turntable. If your speakers are compatible with the receiver then your set with that, otherwise you'll need speakers. The cartridge is the needle that that plays your albums.
craig  Sep 09, 2020
A
The cartridge is the little device at the end of the tone arm attached to the needle. You don't need to concern yourself with it. To play sound on your Bluetooth speakers you need to get a Bluetooth adapter. Search for Bluetooth adapter on the Crutchfield site. Try to get one with RCA connectors so that you can plug in the audio cable from the Denon directly.
eric  Sep 09, 2020
A
I'm not entirely sure what they mean by cartridge, but it sounds like they mean the needle. Since it's a contact-based device, it probably does wear out after some time. You are correct, you do indeed need some kind of sound output. I have mine wired to a receiver and speakers. I don't have need for bluetooth, so I can't speak to that, but most modern receivers should have this option, so connect to your preferred speaker or device pairing. Hope this helps!
christopher  Sep 09, 2020
Q
Can you change the cartridge later?
jose  Jun 23, 2020

A
I believe so. It looks like the cartridge is in a white separate unit that could easily be pulled out, although I have not actually attempted to change the cartridge myself,
david  Jun 28, 2020
A
Yes
craig  Jun 24, 2020

i have no idea. i would call a crutchfield specialtist and if they cant help then return it for a diffferent one
michael  Apr 06, 2020
A
The speed button (33/45) is in left front corner of the horizontal surface. If the button isn't working, you should call Crutchfield - they're a fantastic group of people.
scott  Apr 05, 2020
A
Try adjusting the size button on the right hand side, in addition to the speed button on the left. If that doesn't work, I would ask to return it.

Q
Were you satisfied with this particular turntable?
dale  Jun 03, 2014
3 answers
A
Yes very satisfied with the quality-the only thing that I didn't think of was a lift for the arm
leslie  Jun 04, 2014
A
Yes I'm satisfied, its very basic unit with no issues. you will need to set away from sub woofer because it will pick up feed back thru the needle unlike a CD player. I'm sure this is something you would need to be aware of regardless of what type of turn table you purchase.
robert  Jun 04, 2014
A
Yes, very much so. I purchased this item for my son as his foray into vinyl playback.
john  Jun 04, 2014
Q
will the output connect directly to a Classic I Pod?

This purchase was a Xmas gift for someone so I have no knowledge of connections--sorry
sherree  Dec 12, 2013
A
No. Only RCA jacks connect to amp. Nothing 'fancy' about it.
patrick  Dec 12, 2013
A
Hi Richard, The turntable appears to be hooked to an amplifier only. There are others with outputs directly to MP3s, IPODs, etc. But this one does not show that output. Best regards and good luck!
