Features
Multi-Format Player: The
DVD-2900 offers playback of both ultra high-resolution multi-channel audio
formats: DVD-Audio and SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc). Both formats, with their
wide frequency responses, capture subtle details that make music sound richer
and more real.
Thorough
Vibration-resistant Design: A variety of designs have been incorporated in
the DVD-2900 to suppress unwanted vibrations. A heavyweight chassis and low
center of gravity make for a low vibration design. The pickup mechanism is
positioned at the center to reduce the effects of external vibrations. The DVD
mechanism section in the main chassis has been divided in a two box construction
to further protect it from vibrations.
Advanced Loading
Mechanism: The newly-developed loading mechanism uses a guide and tray
painted with protein material that is highly resistant to vibrations in order to
prevent unwanted vibrations to the tray.
Video
D/A Converter: The DVD-2900 uses a 12-bit, 108-MHz video D/A
converter to ensure highly accurate playback of delicate, low-level video
signals, giving you a vivid picture that is faithful in every detail.
Oversampling of 4x is used for both Progressive and Interlaced video signals,
allowing more detailed D/A conversion. Higher quality picture reproduction is
also possible thanks to a filter with flexible shutout characteristics that is
used for the analog filter in the latter stage. Furthermore, the DVD-2900 uses
two separate video D/A converters to process Progressive and Interlaced signals.
This eliminates mutual interference between the Progressive and Interlaced
signals.
Audio D/A Converter:
The DVD-2900 uses a Burr-Brown 24-bit, 192-kHz audio D/A converter that is well
protected from noise caused by fluctuations in current from the power supply.
This high performance D/A converter allows not only input of the 24-bit/192 kHz
data of DVD-Audio discs, it also includes an analog pure FIR filter for ideal
DSD playback of Super Audio CDs. Furthermore, the same DAC is used unsparingly
for the surround, center and LFE channels to provide optimum sound quality
during multi-channel playback as well.
Noise Shaped Video
(NSV): The NSV feature works in the digital domain to reduce noise in the
video signal frequency band in order to enhance video signal linearity.
Super Sub Alias
Filter: The S/N ratio can be improved when unwanted signals of higher than
6.75 MHz following D/A conversion are cut. The DVD-2900 uses a Super Sub Alias
Filter that produces flat characteristics, ensuring that adverse influences do
not affect video signals inside the essential frequency band, and folding noise
is eliminated. In the DVD-2900, the Super Sub Alias Filter is applied to the
chroma signal as well as the luminance signal, improving color reproduction.
PureProgressive
Circuit: The DVD-2900's interlace-to-progressive converter is the new SiI
504 Converter with PureProgressive circuitry from Silicon Image. The SiI 504
features faster moving picture detection and improved film/video mode
recognition capability. PureProgressive is capable of reproducing DVD-Video
discs containing both Film and Video material, as well as high picture quality
progressive video sources, while avoiding the flickering caused by detection
delays of these different formats.
Component Video
Output: In addition to the composite video output and the S-video
output, this unit is equipped with a set of component video outputs. When
connected to a television with a component video input, the component video
output of this unit will provide picture color and detail that is superior to
video from composite and S-video outputs. The component outputs can be set to
pass either progressive or interlaced video.
Pure Direct Mode:
The DVD-2900 includes two Pure Direct modes that further improve sound quality.
For example, during analog audio output, Pure Direct can turn off digital signal
outputs, video signal outputs, and the front panel display, which can easily
influence the sound quality of the analog audio signals. You can define which
operations are to be turned off and store those preferences in memory.
8
MB Buffer Memory: This unit
is equipped with an 8 MB buffer memory to ensure that both picture and sound are
played without interruption when the DVD disc shifts from layer 1 to layer 2, or
in the rare event of a pickup dropout.
Digital Bass
Management: When playing DVD-Video, DVD-Audio or Super Audio CD sources, it
is possible to adjust speaker configurations. The crossover point is fixed at
80Hz with 12dB high-pass and 24dB low-pass filter slopes.
Picture and Fujicolor
Playback: JPEG files stored on Kodak picture CDs, Fujicolor CDs, CD-Rs and
CD-RWs can be played as a slide show and enjoyed on the DVD-2900.
MP3
Playback: This unit will play MP3 files
recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using the ISO 9660 format. Each disc can have
a maximum of 600 files. The DVD-2900 is not compatible with the following:
packet write software, ID3-Tags, play lists, or MP3 PRO.
SRS TruSurround: Using this
feature, the multi-channel sound normally achieved with five speakers is
recreated using only the two front stereo speakers.
Markers: Up to 5
points on a DVD can be stored in memory and easily recalled. Markers are
automatically cleared when the power is turned off or when the tray is opened.
Resume
Play Memory Function: When the Stop button is pressed during
DVD-Video playback, that position is stored in the memory. When the Play
button is pressed after pressing the Stop button, playback resumes from the
position where the disc was stopped. The resume play memory function is canceled
if the disc tray is opened or the Stop button is pressed a second time.
Program Play: Up to 20
tracks on a Video CD, audio CD, Super Audio CD, or DVD-Audio disc can be
programmed and played in any order.
Note: The Program Play
function does not work with DVD-Video discs or discs containing MP3 files.
Random Play: When
playing a Video CD, audio CD or Super Audio CD, you can play the tracks in
random order. When playing a disc with MP3 files, you can play the files in
random order. When playing a DVD-Audio disc, random playback is performed within
the selected group.
Note: The Random Play
function does not work with DVD-Video discs.
Repeat Play:
"A-B Repeat" allows you to select any portion of a title, chapter, or
track and play that portion repeatedly. When playing a DVD-Video disc, you can
repeat the current title or the current chapter. When playing a DVD-Audio disc,
you can repeat the current track or the current group. When playing a Video CD,
audio CD or Super Audio CD, you can repeat the current track or the entire disc.
When playing a disc with MP3 files, you can repeat the current files or the
current folder.
Scan Search:
When playing an audio CD or Super Audio CD, there are four fast-play speeds in
both directions. When playing a DVD-Video disc, DVD-Audio disc, or Video CD,
there are seven fast-play speeds in both directions.
Slow Motion: When playing a DVD-Video
disc or Video CD, you have access to four slow-motion speeds in both directions.
Parental
Control: This unit allows you to set playback restrictions for
DVDs using Parental Control. Parental Control allows you to restrict playback
according to a predetermined level. You can select a parental control rating
from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password.
Auto Power-Off: If the unit is
in stop mode for approximately 30 minutes, it will automatically switch to
standby mode.
Dimmer: The display can be set
to one of three brightness levels, or turned off.
Inputs
and Outputs Notes
RS-232C Port: This port connects
to the RS-232 port on a compatible external controller, like that of an AMX or
Crestron control system, allowing you to control the operation of this player
from the external controller.
Room to Room In/Out: Two
mini-jacks are provided, allowing you to connect the DVD-2900 to compatible
Denon components.
Manual Correction Note
DVD+R/+RW Compatibility: Per
Denon, this unit is DVD+R and DVD+RW compatible. The manual incorrectly states
this unit is not compatible with DVD+R and +RW discs.
