Features
Dual Voice Coils: For increased
system flexibility, the woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils
are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2 ohm load. When the voice coils
are wired in series, the woofer presents a 8 ohm load. In addition, each coil
may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4
ohm load.
Cast Basket: The dual voice
coil woofers use a polished chrome aluminum cast basket. This ensures a perfect
alignment on each and every woofer. Unlike stamped baskets, the cast basket
cannot bend or tweak under normal play and wear. Rigidity is important when trying to achieve strong bass
and high SPL.
Poly Coated Cone: The cone
material used is spruce pulp paper. This provides a combination of
weight and strength and allows high levels of output without cone failure. The
cone is non-pressed and has a 2-layer poly coating, which increases the cone
rigidity and lowers distortion.
Aluminum Voice Coil Former: The
voice coil former is black, anodized aluminum for highly efficient thermal
transfer. This allows winding high temperature copper wire in multiple layers
for improved efficiency. This allows improved power handling by effectively
dissipating heat.
Extended Pole Piece: The pole
piece has been extended to provide a more linear magnetic field for the
operation of the woofer. This lowers distortion and provides the woofer with
better low frequency response.
Vented Oversized Back Plate: The
back plate has been stepped deeper to allow the woofer more excursion without
bottoming out. Additionally, the back plate is vented with a radius aerodynamic back vent,
which efficiently and quickly circulates cool air around the voice coil. This
allows for more excursion and increased power handling.
4-layer Voice Coil: The dual
4-layer, edge wound 2.5" voice coil design allows for a variety of
impedance loads when using one or multiple subs.
2" Treated Foam Surround: The
2" treated foam surround is resistant to temperature variations and
provides the consistent support necessary for the linear motion of the speaker
cone. In addition, the inherent damping capabilities eliminate the transmission
of sonic disturbances between the cone and the frame of the speaker. This
greatly improves the clarity of the speaker's output.
Flat Spider: The speaker's
linear compliance is balanced through the use of a flat spider design. A flat
spider provides symmetrical control of the voice coil through its cone
excursion. Linear cone excursion reduces harmonic distortion for improved sound
quality. This allows for reduced mechanical distortion for better sound quality.
Inverted Dust Cap: The use of
an inverted dust cap serves to increase the cone rigidity and improve power
handling by forcing more air through the voice coil. An added benefit is smooth
frequency response.
Crossover: Audiobahn recommends
using a 12 dB/octave active crossover between 80 Hz and 100 Hz.
Speaker Terminals: Each voice
coil has inputs for bare wire up to 8 gauge. The wire is held in place by
tightening Allen Head bolts using the included Allen wrench.
Enclosure
Compatibility
Recommended Sealed Box
Volume: Audiobahn recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume
between 0.25 and 0.75 cubic feet. While no ideal volume is given, the manual notes
the larger enclosure will play a lower note, but will not handle as much power.
Recommended Ported Box
Volume: Audiobahn recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume
between 0.65 and 2.35 cubic feet. Three specific enclosures are listed in the
manual. The "Space Saver" design is 0.65 cubic feet and has one 2" diameter x 6.8" long
port. The "Everyday Bass" design is 1.35 cubic feet and has one 3" diameter x 8.5" long
port. The "Ultimate SPL" design is 2.35 cubic feet and has one 4" diameter x 8" long
port.

Handling Note
Power
Handling: The woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils, and each coil
can handle up to 300 watts RMS (600 watts total).
