With hot looks and hot performance, this Audiobahn Flame Q subwoofer is an incredible addition to your sound system. The 12" 1206Q features dual 4-ohm voice coils (make sure your amp is stable down to 2 ohms before wiring in parallel), and double stacked, 120 oz. strontium magnets that handle all the power you want.
A thick, 2" foam surround helps the cone maintain a linear travel for smooth, sleek, powerful low frequency reproduction, while the aluminum woofer cone sheds heat quickly for distortion-free bass. The unique "flame basket" design has the chrome look of a classic car but the sound is thoroughly modern. For best results, use this sub in a ported enclosure.
Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation.Details:

What's a component sub and why would I want one?
A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2 ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 8 ohm load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4 ohm load; if this is done, each amplifier channel should be fed with a summed mono signal for optimal bass output.
Cast Basket: The dual voice coil woofers use a polished chrome aluminum cast basket. This ensures a perfect alignment on each and every woofer. Unlike stamped baskets, the cast basket cannot bend or tweak. Rigidity is important when trying to achieve strong bass and high SPL.
Flame Q: Audiobahn's Flame Q series cosmetics are integrated into the cast aluminum basket, the back cover on the magnet, and the cone.
Aluminum Cone: This woofer uses a stamped and balanced aluminum cone.
Vented Back Plate: The back plate is vented to ensure efficient cooling of the voice coil.
4-layer Voice Coil: This woofer has a 2.5" 4-layer voice coil.
Chrome Finish: This subwoofer has a protective chrome finish.
Speaker Terminals: Each voice coil has inputs for bare wire up to 8 gauge. The wire is held in place by tightening Allen Head bolts using the included Allen wrench.
Recommended Ported Box Volume: For best response and volume, Audiobahn recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 2.585 cu/ft and two 3" diameter x 8.529" long ports.
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: This woofer is best suited for ported box applications; with all other factors being equal, the woofer will sound better in a ported box than it will in a sealed box. If you must mount this woofer in a sealed box, Audiobahn recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume within the range of 0.77 cu/ft to 1.27 cu/ft.
Power Handling: The woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils, and each coil can handle up to 550 watts RMS (1100 watts peak).
Specifications: The specifications in the Crutchfield database were taken from technical sheets provided by Audiobahn. Per Audiobahn, the specifications in the manual are incorrect. The woofer reviewed by Crutchfield did not come with a manual, but, according to Audiobahn, future shipments of this woofer will include a manual.
