Just what I hoped they would be!
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I have some relatively new Audio-Technica ATH-M50s for "at-home" listening, but hadn't bought any new portable 'phones for traveling in many years. Tried the earbud route with Denons, sound was surprisingly good, but in the end I just can't do earbuds, not comfortable at all for me. Looked at quite a few small on-ear models (there are SO MANY options in the $100-$200 range!!!), changed my mind multiple times, but settled on these AKGs, and it appears to be a good choice. The sound is very clean across a very wide frequency range, and for a variety of music -- from Clapton to Coltrane. Seemed a bit too bright right out of the box, but they have mellowed a tad, seem to be dialed in very well now. I'm primarily using these with ipod Classic 160GB, no problem re: powering them. Apple Lossless files sound great. The sound is very comparable to many $300+ sets, but the main difference is the build -- seem a little fragile, compared to the B&W P5, for example, but really good overall for the price.
Pros: Simple: the sound
Cons: a little tight on my head -- seem to be a bit fragile
