So close to 5 stars but needs improvement

Written By JB, Leesburg, VA on Monday, May 06, 2013

Have 2. First works very well iPhone slides right in. Second uses much thicker felt pads and works but 'clunky'. Quality control obviously needs attention. As noted the speakers are muted by the holder. A deficiency which could be easily fixed. And the bottom opening is slightly narrow to slip (some) connectors through. like the design concept. Wish it were executed more consistently and design tweaked. If my second unit was identical to the first would be 4 stars.

Pros: Simple to use and effective.

Cons: Inconsistent build. Some units may function better than others.

Very solid cradle

I combined this with the VSM mount for my '06 Accord and it fits my iPhone
3GS perfectly. The felt touches the back of the iPhone, and the plastic part
of the cradle slide against the the phone's metal 'rails', which is a neat
design that avoid scratching the phone.

I have no need to access my volume controls as I use this with a USA Spec
iPhone interface, but to those people who want to: why not just cut away
part of the mount with a hacksaw or dremel? I had to remove a small
amount of material at the bottom as the USA spec iPhone connector is
pretty bulky; wasn't difficult as this is made from ABS plastic and is easy to
work with a drill or saw.

Wonderful, but would have been nice...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I connect my iPhone
to my Alpine car
stereo through the
Alpine iPod-Adapter,
so the fact that I
can't access the
volume controls
don't bother me in
the least. I control
the volume through
my car audio. The
only time this might
be annoying for me
is if I'm speaking
over my Apple
Bluetooth Headset,
but I just slide the
phone up a little
bit, change the
volume and slide it
back down. As far as
the volume being
displayed all the
time like the other
reviewer mentioned,
I don't have that
problem. I've never
even see it happen.

It would have been
nice if they have a
version of this that
is a little larger
in dimensions and
allows for an iPhone
in a case to fit in.
I was hesitant that
i couldn't keep my
iPhone in a case and
use this. I ended up
installing the
Invisible Shield
though, which fits
in the miCradle just

Not for the iPhone

Written By Rob, Pittsburgh, PA on Thursday, March 27, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This mount probably works just fine for the iPod Touch. It doesn't work so well for the iPhone. There is no provision for the volume control buttons on the left side of the phone. The mount holds this control down all of the time. This results in the phone continuously displaying the volume of the phone. This can't be very good for the phone.

A steady hand and a Dremel fixed the mount. I just enlarged the opening on the left side to free up the volume control on the phone.

As one other reviewer noted the logo sticker that is meant to cover the mounting screws is dangerously ugly. I left mine off.

Nice. But....

This dropped right into place on my Pro-Fit car bracket with no problems whatsoever. It would benefit from lock washers on the nuts though. A little threadlocker fixed that.

This mount is much smaller and more shallow than the universal mounts, so it looks better and is less obtrusive. Unfortunately, you can't reach the iPhone's volume and mute switches when the phone is in the cradle. A minor complaint, but it seems an odd oversight.

The logo sticker to cover the screws is extremely ugly, unless the interior of your car is covered in rhinestones. I like the screws better.

I've only had this in for a week or so, so the jury is out on the felt covers for the corners.
