Looks like it was installed at the factory

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed a way to mount a radio in my Jeep which has limited dash space. This proved to be the best, cleanest and most professional method. Clear, custom instructions, looks like it was installed on the assembly line.

Pros: Perfect fit, well made. Price is the same as ordering it from the manufacturer, but they charge an arm and a leg for shipping. No shipping charge when ordering it from Crutchfield. Thanks!

Cons: Kind of pricey, but they've cornered the market, so...

Good product, lousy install instructions.

The mount is fine. No problems with the bent piece of metal. The actual problem is that the manufacturers instructions aren't really appropriate for my vehicle. They say to remove six screws and do a little prying, however, this does not give anywhere the needed room. The entire front and rear center console must be removed so that you can access One Single Screw that attaches the glove box at the lower left hand side. Once that is done you still have to remove the cover from the right end of the dashboard, which thankfully just pops off, so that you can access another screw at the lower right. After all of this work, which didn't take me that long because I have done it several times, it just takes a couple of minutes to mount the bracket.

Pros: The bracket is fine, except that's all you get, and you do still have to come up with your own method of attaching your phone.

Cons: Woefully inadequate instructions that vastly underestimate the task at hand. None of the work is hard, there's just a bunch that must be removed to properly access everything, which might be beyond the skill of somebody without experience or a shop manual for the car.

A perfect fit

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love having a solid permanent mount for my phones & mp3 players. This one could have been designed a little better, I'm not a huge fan of the shape. I get it is for universal fit, but just not perfect. Would recommend to everybody. I have one in three of my vehicles, each one has it's own issues, but can't stop recommending these! I love them! No suction cups, no damaged dash from screws or glue!

Pros: No suction cups, no damaged dash from screws or glue! Solid permanent mount for my phones & mp3 players.

Cons: I'm not a huge fan of the shape. I get it is for universal fit, but just not perfect.

Perfect Solution!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product is exactly what I was searching for. I had a very similar product in my Lincoln Town Car for many years and loved it too. I recently purchased an Infiniti and wanted a similar setup. There were only a few products on the market and they were more expensive than this one. The others appeared larger and not as stable for mounting my ANDRIOD . I'm glad that a buddy told me about Crutchfield. When I saw the product I realized that it was just what I had in the previous vehicle and I loved that one too! I would have swapped it out however these things are made specifically for the intended vehicle.

Pros: solid, strong, sturdy mount. small footprint.

Cons: lots of holes in the mount offers many options for mounting your device. These holes bother me if visible after mounting the device. I wrapped the right side with electrical tape to cover them. The electrical tape is non-visible and neither is the unused holes. It worked great.

Easy to install, I have my XM radio attached to the mount and it looks very nice like it was meant to be there. The mount is made of metal and is very sturdy. It doesn't cover the air vents like the mounts offered on other sites.

Pros: Easy to install, looks great, plenty of holes to mount anything.

Cons: May annoy tall passengers that will hit there knee on it.

Product Research

Overview: The Pro.Fit International Vehicle Specific Mount (VSM) is designed to attach behind the dash trim for a clean, factory installed look without damage to your vehicle's interior. This black metal mount provides a mounting surface of approximately 2-5/8" square. Please check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector for compatibility with your vehicle.

Note: For many applications a VSM will require an additional holder or cradle to complete a mobile electronics installation. Some electronics manufacturers provide their own cradle which usually will attach directly to a VSM.

Installation: The VSM attaches to existing hardware that is hidden behind your vehicle dash's trim. Installation will require that your vehicle's trim bezel be removed from the dash in order access this hidden hardware. We recommend using a Dash Trim Removal Tool (042DM4022) or Hook Tool (042DM3022) to remove bezels. A special tool is necessary to protect the vehicle's dash from scratches and punctures that can occur by using a household tool like a screwdriver.

Hi Jeff. Try the Golf VII specific forum over at VWVortex. It's one of the largest automotive forums in the world. There should be somebody there who has already figured out how to what you're trying to do. [ Aaron  Aug 23, 2015 ]
Hi Jeff. Unfortunately it doesn't look like we have your vehicle researched yet. However, you may want to check out some Golf forums to see if the dash is similar between this and a previous year. If so we may be able to help with a MasterSheet that would cover the removal of the radio. [ Jeff  Aug 07, 2015 ]  Staff
The holes on the plate hold items like XM radio very well. Note the location this mounts at is determined by your specific vehicle. My Sienna used a mount low in the center console area on the passenger side. [ GREG  Feb 14, 2014 ]
Pro.Gif makes device specific holders that are also sold buy Crutchfield. They also have cradles that adjust to fit various devices such as phones of various sizes. The system works great. If you are not sure which holder you need I encourage you to contact Crutchfield. They are very helpful and as a 25 year customer have NEVER been disappointed with their advice. [ ERIC L  Feb 14, 2014 ]
I bought the Pro Fit mount for a 2005 Toyota Camry. It is essentially just a black metal L-shaped bracket with a bunch of holes in it. Very expensive for what it is. The directions tell you to pop out the heater controls from the dashboard and screw the bracket in to that ledge before placing the heater controls back. This bracket will not hold a phone or iPod unless you buy a phone holder and bolt THAT to the Pro Fit mount. [ COLIN  Feb 14, 2014 ]
You'd have to buy the I Pod bracket too, unless you wanted to velcro it to the bracket. [ LARRY N  Feb 13, 2014 ]
You have to buy a mount that will attach to the bracket and holds your iPod. That bracket is just part of the package you need. [ TREVOR  Feb 13, 2014 ]
You buy another piece that mounts to this. Go to the website and look around. [ Raymond  Feb 13, 2014 ]
I bought my first Pro.Fit 20 years ago (back in the days of 3 pound bag phones) to mount the corded handset. When the bag phone was replaced, I mounted a spring loaded, adjustable cradle onto the Pro.Fit mount to hold a smaller phone. I am on my third Pro.Fit now, but still use old style cradles to hold a cell phone (or iPod) securely in the vehicle. It keeps the phone within reach, visible (for caller id, etc), and secure in the vehicle for one handed access to the screen. [ THOMAS F  Feb 13, 2014 ]
I originally bought mine to mount an add-on SiriusXM receiver in my '05 Suburban. I don't believe it is intended for an iPod/iPhone mount because it depends on whatever you want to attach to it being able to be mounted to it. Whatever you want to attach to it has to have mounting screws that align to at least two (depending on what it is) of the holes in the mount. Hope this helps... [ THOMAS  Feb 13, 2014 ]
This bracket would mount to your dashboard and you would have to check with this or other manufacturers if they have adaptors that wouldfit your ipod or whatever and then mount to the bracket on the side with the 12 slots and holes. The side with the 3 holes mounts to your dashboard after you remove the bezel front. You usually remove 2 existing screws in the dash and add the bracket. [ WALTER A  Feb 13, 2014 ]
The bracket mounts behind some dash molding with the car screws. The plate to mount stuff to have several options for lining up a device to it. I mounted a cell phone booster that had a sticky mounting plate and just drilled small holes and used small bolts. [ Jason  Feb 13, 2014 ]
Nick, This is Jeff another customer. I have 2 of these one in my truck and 1 in my jeep. There is a cradle you also have to purchase it works Great!! with my i-phone. Don't know about an iPod, Sorry! [ JEFFERY D  Feb 13, 2014 ]
I actually had an audio shop install this item for me. It holds my iPhone 5S just fine, but I did require any additional piece. [ MONIQUE  Feb 13, 2014 ]
