An enclosure is simply the box that houses your sub; sealed and ported enclosures are the most popular types. A sealed enclosure is usually smaller in size, sacrificing a little volume level to deliver more accurate bass. The ported enclosure features a vent which allows bass waves to escape from behind the mounted sub, augmenting the bass coming off the front of the sub. Ported boxes are louder, bigger, and a little less accurate. Every sub works best in the size and type of enclosure that's recommended by the manufacturer, so make sure you match your sub with the right box. Q-Logic enclosures take the guesswork out of box-building, so you can enjoy great bass without the time-consuming process of constructing your own enclosure. The QLH-.8512DE accommodates two 12" subwoofers in a sturdy housing made entirely of non-resonant medium-density fiberboard. This box features reliable locking-joint construction, and is impeccably upholstered with durable gray carpet. Since subwoofers' basket design and bolt patterns vary by brand, Q-Logic's ingenious QxE seal ring allows you to customize the box opening for virtually every woofer available. Plus, a cool-looking, one-piece grille works even with woofers that have large roll surrounds, so you get solid protection and sharp looks. The box comes with two grilles (with screws), two sets of spring posts, polyester fiber stuffing, and speaker leads with quick-slides for easy connection to your woofers. This box will fit in trunks, hatchback spaces, and the rear area of most SUVs and vans. Please measure the planned installation location to ensure fit. That's because we have our own in-house Product Research team — they open the box, verify contents, check the owner's manual, and record dimensions, features and specs. We stay on top of new products and technologies to help people make informed choices. Features Materials: The box is constructed of 5/8" MDF (medium-density fiberboard), with a second MDF panel adhered to the back of the front panel to provide the mounting surface for the woofer. MDF resists flexing and has anti-resonant qualities. Design: The enclosure consists of two 0.85 cu/ft chambers. Each chamber will accept a 12" woofer. For strength, Q-Logic uses a full dado groove on the front, back, top, and bottom panels. The side panels are glued, then locked into these grooves. The edges of the front, back, top and bottom use mitered joints, so there's 50% more surface area for the special glue that bonds them. The side panels of the box are recessed 0.5". The trapezoidal shape of the enclosure better utilizes trunk space by allowing you to put the enclosure against the angled back of the back seat. The enclosure is covered with durable gray carpet. QxE-Ring: The QxE-Ring is a multi-diameter woofer mounting adapter which also seals the woofer into the enclosure. The QxE-Ring has a series of rings around the outside to help center the woofer, and hash marks to help align the woofer's mounting holes. If the mounting diameter of the woofer is 11-1/8" or less, the woofer can be installed without trimming. For woofers with a larger mounting diameter, a portion of the QxE-Ring can be trimmed off, allowing for an extra 3/16" in woofer mounting diameter. Plastic Grille: The one-piece plastic grilles fit into the outer edges of the enclosure openings and are held in place with two self-tapping screws. The grilles offer nearly an inch of "headroom" to accommodate woofers with large roll surrounds. Note: The grille adds approximately 7/8" to the overall depth of the enclosure when mounted. Spring Posts: This enclosure has two sets of spring posts located on the rear of the enclosure. The spring posts will accept bare wire, pin connectors, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs. Brackets: Brackets (not included) are recommended for more secure mounting. Product Reviews Review this product Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences about this product. Crutchfield got it to me really fast, I'm use to waiting and waiting for stuff from other websites. I give Crutchfield 10 stars for fast shipping and having great prices. I'm not into competition level, so this small setup is perfect for anyone wanting more than the stock system can provide. The bass it tight and really adds to the rock music that I mostly listen to. There's also quite a bit of boom with Rap as well. I previously had 15" Vegas, but the box they were in was too large and I needed to increase my trunk space. With this small thing, I still have the bass for my music and now I can actually use my trunk. Well worth the money!! 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Written By durdagr, Bridgewater, NJ on Friday, June 24, 2005 When you look at all the instruments that make bass in music, they's all usually bigger or have bigger enclosures. It's important to understand that Bass will actually be the result of the box you're subs are in, rather then the subs themselves. I have purchased this Box to go with the Kenwoods KFC's i reviewed. My impressions. This box is heavy! This is an indication of great quality right out of the box, so to speak. The carpeting was impeccable, speaker terminals were very good. The joints were all sealed air tight and vary solid. The speaker cavities had a very nice rubber liner gasket to help seal whatever subs you put in. Poly fill was a nice touch and a necessary addition to any good quality box. Honestly i don't think boxes can come any better made then what's supplied by Q-logic. The bass this enclosure generates is superb, tight, responsive and NOT muddy. Highly recommended. 11 out of 15 people found this helpful Was this review helpful?
