Our take on the Q-Forms Kick Panel Enclosures

Q-Logic

Many award-winning sound-off competitors put their mid-woofers and tweeters in custom-built kick panel enclosures because that's one of the best ways to get a concert-quality stereo image. But why pay hundreds of dollars to an installer? Mount your 5-1/4" components in Q-Logic's Q-Forms, which deliver competition-quality imaging without the expensive custom installation work.

With Q-Forms, each speaker is located and angled to maximize sound quality. The theory is that the distance between your ears and each of the speakers should be equal. With your speakers in the kick panels, it's like sitting in that "sweet spot" at a concert or right between your home speakers.

All the available colors for the Q-Forms that fit your vehicle are listed here. Pick the color that matches your interior. If there is no match for your vehicle, that means Q-Forms are not available for it.

To install your component speakers in the Q-Forms, you have to cut holes for them in the Q-Form panels. Installing the Q-Form panels in your vehicle may sometimes require relocation of the parking brake pedal or other vehicle parts. Please check with us before purchasing by using the vehicle selector on our site, or calling a Sales Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to verify fit information.

Features

Application Guide: This Q-Form kick panel fits 1995-96 Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire sedans and coupes. It will not fit the convertible.

Q-Form Advantages

  • Color matched to interior of your car
  • Molded in one piece for factory appearance
  • Speakers positioned and angled for optimum stereo staging and imaging
  • Equalized path lengths reduce right/left volume bias

Installation: These Q-forms are installed using the hardware from the factory kick panels in addition to the hardware supplied with the panels. Mounting speakers requires cutting out mounting holes in the designated areas of the plastic Q-form. The tweeter can be flush or surface mounted. The tweeter on this panel is mounted low, so no interference with factory equipment (parking brake, etc) should be likely.

Note: Installing these Q-forms requires you to cut the factory scuff plates.

Installation tools required: hole saw (can also use air saw or keyhole saw), drill, screwdriver.

Estimated Installation time: 2 hours (per the manufacturer)

Speaker Fit Notes: This Q-Form will fit most 5-1/4" component speaker systems. Giving exact mounting depths is not possible since it will depend to some extent on the space available behind the factory kick panel, which can vary; however, the minimum flush mount depth is .75" for the tweeter and 2.5" for the woofer/mid bass component. According to the manufacturer, the maximum allowable speaker depth is 4". You can mount a tweeter with a maximum diameter of 2.34" and a midrange/midbass with a diameter size ranging from 3 1/2" to 5 1/4". The maximum frame width/diameter allowable for the midrange/bass driver is 6.3", so a few 6-1/2" units may fit. Our database contains information relating to cutout requirements, frame width, and mounting depth for all of our speakers, so please check with a Crutchfield sales advisor before ordering if you wish to use 6-1/2" speakers in these kick panels.

Great Imaging an Midbass once modified

Written By itburnout, Charlotte, NC on Sunday, June 10, 2007

I picked a set of the 6.5" models of these and was quite pleased. The color and texture of the plastic was a perfect match for my car and once installed looked factory. They provide really good imaging (most artists are staring you right in the face) and I find that the imaging is best when I have the balance dead center which is a good sign that you are on the right track.

BE FOREWARNED: Don't expect to install these things right out of the box in your ride and have any kind of midbass or midrange for that matter. While these products are custom made for each vehicle I discovered that they have HUGE gaps in certain sections that allow the back wave of the midbass to leak into your cab and destroy ANY bass you might have had. They are also a little on the flimsy side and resonate BAD.

SOLUTION: Put 2 layers of dynamat (or equivalent) on the inside of these panels and then go to your local art supply store and buy 10 pounds of non-hardening modeling clay. Take the clay and pack in the inside of the pods and especially along the outside edge. APPLY LIBERALLY. When you are done, the pods should weigh about 10 pounds. The clay will seal the edges and create the seal encessary for these things to sound good. A little tweaking the clay and they sound GREAT!!
