MB Quart's Reference Series component speaker systems combine superb materials, high-tech features, and rigorous German engineering to deliver outstanding audio reproduction.

The RCE216 component speaker system uses a 6-3/4" polypropylene woofer for stunning upper bass and midrange reproduction. A precision-made, non-metallic ABS/fiberglass composite basket creates a resonance-free platform for the cone, so output is strong, clean, and uncolored.

The 3/4" tweeter's titanium dome surface is incorporated into a composite surround material that virtually eliminates unwanted high-frequency peaks, so you enjoy the signature smooth sound associated with MB Quart speakers. A special optical circuit in the high-quality 2-way crossover (4,200 Hz) protects the tweeter from power overloads.

The versatile RCE216 system offers exceptional installation flexibility. Install the tweeters separately in the included flush- or surface-mount cups for a component setup, or use the innovative tweeter mounting supports to install them in the woofers as high-performance coaxial speakers. You can adjust the tweeter to three different angles in coaxial mode for optimal high frequency dispersion.

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Cleaner than clean!

Written By Troy, Sugar Land, Tx on Wednesday, February 09, 2005

These are the first MB Quart speakers that I have owned, and I was not let down by the claimed performance specs. These speakers are mounted in the stock locations in the front doors of my Maxima, and they sound awesome! They reproduce all music in my system from 100hz and up, and they sound crystal clear. I am only driving them with 25WRMS per channel, but hope to upgrade into the recomended RMS range of the speakers(60-130WRMS). I cannot believe how much better they sound than the old stock stereo, which was the 200W premium system that the 98 Maxima GLE's came with, there is no comparison. They were easy to install, and if I sell the car they are staying with me.

Mounting Note

Woofer Cones: The woofer cones are constructed of polypropylene, which has a rigid structure for low distortion and accurate sound reproduction. For an even smoother response and improved durability, each speaker uses a rubber surround.

Composite Baskets: Using a combination of polyamide ABS composite reinforced with extremely short glass fibers, the baskets can withstand temperature and humidity extremes with little, if any, reaction.

Speaker Connection Terminals: The solid one-piece connection terminals provide all possible connection options. Whether plug-connected, screw-connected or soldered, even with heavy-duty twin-core leads, the connections stay secure, effectively cutting out transfer resistance.

Flush-mount Rings: If you want to use the grilles, you will need use the flush-mount rings in a custom installation. Each flush-mount ring requires a 5.637" cutout. Once the cutout is made, you will need to make four notches in the mounting surface to accommodate the pegs that extend beneath each flush-mount ring. To make the installation easier, two templates are supplied.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 3/4" titanium dome tweeter for crisp, clear highs.

Metal Tweeter Housings: Each tweeter is encapsulated within a specially designed metal cooling housing. Coupled to the tweeter's motor assembly, the excess energy generated inside the tweeter's magnet and voice coil assembly is dissipated into the surrounding environment providing exceptional performance, improved power handling and high reliability.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters may be surface angle or flush mounted.

Tweeter Mounting Dimensions:

  Flush Mount Surface Angle Mount
Mounting Depth 0.532" 0.677" (screw depth)
Mounting Height 0.269" 0.982"
Cutout Diameter 1.631" N/A
Frame Diameter 1.896" 1.686"

Tweeter Supports: In addition to standard tweeter mounting options, an innovative tweeter support lets you mount the tweeter directly to the center of the woofer, giving you a standard coaxial speaker. The supports offer adjustable positioning of the tweeter. Three different angles, each 45° apart, allows for the tweeter to be positioned for the best acoustical reflection angle based on your specific installation needs. When the tweeter is attached to the woofer, the speaker mounting height increases from 0.311" to 0.56".

Selectable Tweeter Output Level: Each crossover allows you to select the tweeter output level according to system requirements and personal preference. The tweeter level may be set to "-6 dB", "-4 dB", "-2 dB", or "0 dB".

Tweeter Protection: A light bulb is incorporated into the crossover to extend the life of the tweeter by protecting it against overloading. This element automatically absorbs excess energy (lighting the bulb) and allows continuous operation of the tweeter even at extreme volumes.

2-Way Crossover Network: Each crossover features a 12 dB/octave, 4.2 kHz high-pass filter for the tweeters and a 12 dB/octave, 4.2 kHz low-pass filter for the woofers.

Crossover Connections: The crossover inputs and outputs are gold-plated screw terminals.

Crossover Mounting: There are 2 mounting holes in the base of the crossover, allowing it to be mounted on any flat surface.

Note: Mounting screws are not supplied.

Crossover Dimensions: W=5.954", H=1.592", D=4.614"

Mounting Note

Mounting Options: These speakers can be mounted as separate components or as coaxial speakers. The woofers can be mounted with or without the grilles. The Crutchfield database contains the measurements of the woofers mounted as separate components and without the grilles. When the speakers are mounted as coaxial speakers without the grilles, the speaker mounting height increases from 0.311" to 0.56", but all other measurements remain unchanged.
