About the Sanus CFR1615

Ralph Graves

The Sanus CFR1615 stackable skeleton rack lets you customize storage for your component system. You can assemble the modular pieces in one of five different height combinations, depending on what you need. The braces are self-aligning so you can easily fit the rack together without special tools. Slots in the braces let you wall-mount the rack for a more permanent storage solution. The rack ships flat with removable shelves, blanking panels and hardware needed for assembly. (If you're planning to wall-mount this rack, check out Sanus' swivel support mount.)

Product Research

Features

Steel Construction: The Sanus Component Series CFR1615 Skeleton Rack features welded, heavy-gauge steel construction.

Stackable Rack: The Sanus Component Series CFR1615's modular, stackable structure can be coupled into five different height combinations - 40U, 35U, 30U, 20U and 15U.

Capacity: The Sanus CFR1615 can accommodate up to fifteen rack spaces (1.75" tall) or seven shelf components (3.5" tall). It can support up to 600 lbs of AV gear on the floor, or up to 200 lbs when mounted on the wall.

Quick Assembly: The rack is self-aligning and requires only four bolts for quick, easy assembly in approximately 15 minutes.

Leveling Feet: The CFR1615 comes with 4 feet that are threaded so you can level the component rack. An optional CA6CK caster kit, available from the manufacturer, includes 4 casters to enable you to roll the rack from place to place.

Wall-Mounting: This versatile rack can be mounted directly to wall studs for a more permanent organization solution in any room.

Optional Swing-Out Bracket: The Sanus CFA16SM-B1 (sold separately) is an optional swing out mount for Sanus Component 1600 Series Racks. This optional swivel accessory enables access to the back of these wall-mounted modular rack systems, so you can easily get to your components rear-panel connections. It allows your Sanus Component 1600 Series Rack to swivel effortlessly with a touch of the release tab, and locks securely when returned to home position against wall. The Sanus CFA16SM-B1 opens up to 90-degrees

Q
Are there any accessories to make this rack look prettier? It would be right in my living room clearly visible.

A
Not that I know of, sorry.
katie  Sep 15, 2018

Once you fill it with equipment and blanks for any empty spaces it looks great. You can buy pink ?? to really set it off.
eric  Sep 14, 2018
A
I think the only option is to find a cabinet or piece of furniture that it can fit in to hide it. You'll see the cables and wires behind it and on the sides. It will need something that allows it to breathe as the equipment puts off quite a bit of heat.
matt  Sep 14, 2018

This rack is meant to be enclosed in an closet, hence it's appearance. If you are going to be exposing the rack I suggest the Sanus CFR2115 instead.
miguel  Sep 14, 2018

Not that I know of. I love the rack. It sits in my closet. If you get a harmony system, there is no need to not put all your equipment out of sight. All my electronics can be controlled by smart phone apps.

Sorry what you see is what comes. We put it in the corner out of site. You could screw some wood pannels on it if you have wood working ability? Nice rack, we like how the hinge we have allows it to swing out.
easley  Sep 14, 2018
A
No it's a very utilitarian piece of equipment. I wouldn't use it as furniture. Mine is in a large cabinet with a door on it. Not suitable for decor imo.

Q
Are there sliding shelves available for this rack?
cptcomm  Mar 31, 2017

A
Thanks for your question. There are no sliding shelves available. There are sliding storage drawers that fit the rack. Check out the "Accessories" tab on the main product page for optional items. Hope this helps.

Q
Is there a solid top panel available? I don't see one listed under accessories.
jeff  Aug 16, 2016

A
No. The top is made to be left open for better ventilation. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

Q
Instead of stacking these, can you bolt them together side by side?
gary  Aug 15, 2016

A
Looking closely at the unit, i cannot see any reason why 2 units could not be bolted side-by-side. On each corner, on the side, there is a series of sqare holes from top to bottom, placed about a quarter of an inch apart. You may have to buy extra bolts to do it, but it certainly can be done.
david  Aug 19, 2016
A
This is a great, solid unit for us and there are holes along the entire length of each side, front and back so yes you could bolt two of these units together side by side. Thanks , Greg
greg  Aug 16, 2016
A
I have them side by side. Not bolted though
david  Aug 16, 2016
Q
What shelf do I need for a 70 lb. receiver? The supplied shelves are not rated beyond 50 lbs, so I'm not sure how one would achieve the 600 pound total capacity listed.
matt  Jun 10, 2016

A
You would have to extend the shelving unit all the way to the back to support that weight. PLUS, you'll want to avoid any wall mounting of the rack. My Sanus hinged wall brackets started to bend under moderate load (45 lbs + weight of the rack itself). I would mount a solid wood board to fully span the wall studs and mount the rack to the board to maximize the distance between bolts.
michael  Aug 28, 2017
A
My guess would be it would hold it - they list the 50 lb capacity as a CYA probably. If anything you may have to rig something up to support the back (it hangs on the front four bolts) but probably not. It's built like a tank.
mark  Jun 11, 2016
A
You would need the Sanus CASH23 3u shelf. That shelf hods up to 80 pounds.
craig  Jun 10, 2016
Q
What is the weight capacity per shelf? I have a HK AVR7200 that I think weighs around 68 pounds. Will the shelves support it? Thanks.
russk66  Jun 17, 2015

A
Not sure the weight limit but I'd keep it below 20 pounds of load.
david p  Jun 18, 2015
A
I would say yes - this is a really well built unit. I would call Sanus tech support though to confirm, although I really would not have any concern if it was me - I would be more concerned with the attachment to the wall making sure it is secure.
mark  Jun 18, 2015
A
Sanus doesn't offer a per-shelf weight capacity, but the overall capacity (on the floor) is 600 lbs - I would provide you the link, but Crutchfield won't let me. This thing is a beast. I wouldn't hesitate to put a 100lb piece of gear on a shelf.
jim  Jun 18, 2015
A
Yes, this unit is very strong.
jordan  Jun 18, 2015
A
I haven't placed anything that heavy on one of the shelves, but they could probably support that much weight. It would be best to place the unit as far forward as possible. The manufacturer only provides a weight capacity that refers to the total weight capacity when free standing. (600 lbs)
george  Jun 18, 2015
Q
how does one get more shelves to put in rack?
jon l  Jan 27, 2014

A
You should see extra shelves listed on the Accessories tab for this product.
