Our take on the Sanus VLT15B

The ultra-thin Sanus VLT15 holds your flat-panel LCD or plasma TV a scant 7/8" from the wall. An innovative Virtual Axis™ system lets you tilt your TV forward for optimal viewing, despite its closeness to the wall. The VLT15 can support a TV with a screen size of up to 65", and a weight of up to 150 lbs.

The mount's brackets can easily be shifted to the right or left, in case the wall studs are a little off-center. You can also make small adjustments after the mount is affixed to the wall to level it, or even change the height. And the handy ClickStand at the bottom of each vertical brace swings out to prop your mounted TV away from the wall, to make cable hookup a breeze — without removing the TV from the mount.

Paired with a Samsung UN65JS8500 and it works/looks fantastic. Really low profile and there is no drifting because the TV is not heavy.

Well made especially with sale price.

Pros: Easy mount once you figure out the multi language folded instruction material, or once you just go ahead and mount it and ignore the instructions.

Cons: Tilt feature does not hold angle well, but full angle is perfect for my use so no problem for me.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not a bad product once it was done. The instructions left something to be desired. Having the booklet tell you to go to the Sanus website for positioning details was a pain in the butt. Also, they gave me mounting hardware for several different sizing options...and none of the hardware was the correct length for my TV (Crutchfield recommended this product for my TV) I ended up buying extra washers to make it work, which was fine, just not convenient while assembling on a Sunday night.

Pros: My TV hasn't fallen off the wall yet

Cons: It took far longer than it should have to get in on the wall

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this mount for my new Samsung 65" 4K UHD television. I wanted something that would mount the tv close to the wall and minimize any wiring behind it. I decided on this model, which met that need and also provide a tilting feature. Installation was straight forward. You do need to calculate the height of it based on the support location on your tv. I am sure those that do installations for a living, get it done very fast: however, first timers take it slow to avoid mistakes. Fortunately, everything went well and the tv is still hanging. Product is very well made and the hardware is more than adequate. This model keeps the tv tight against the wall which minimizes any wiring being seen behind it.

Pros: Close coupled to the wall for a clean installation and minimal wiring visible from the sides. Hangs tv close to wall like a big picture. Tilting feature is worth it, even if you don't use it. Helps in a smaller room.

Cons: More difficult to connect cables to tv because of reduced space between it and wall. It does have a couple of kick stands that hold it out a few inches but still makes it difficult. It may require you to make cable connections prior to hanging the tv on the mount. Lower locking release mechanisms are un-locked via two short cables/strings that dangle behind the tv. You need to make sure they are hanging down and can be reached from behind the tv before locking the mount down or extend them

Excellent product. It went up in a snap. the TV was almost too easy to mount. I got it right the first time and I must have checked it a dozen times because I couldn't believe it was that simple.

Pros: clear instructions all nuts and bolts (plenty) included regardless of the specific type of TV

Cons: it would be nice if they gave you a little magnetic level.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Extremely happy with the mount. I was a bit skeptical due to the age of the TV but installation was a breeze and the full tilt angle was perfect for the room but I can understand the previous reviewers frustration for lack of adjustability. I would recommend this to anyone who wants their TV mounted at the recommended height so the angle is not an issue.

Pros: Perfect fit to the TV. Attractive. Keeps TV tight to the wall. Great price.

Cons: None.

Sanus VLT15B mounting Sony XRB55X850 ultra HD 4k tv

Home Theater Enthusiast from Pennsylvania on 2/10/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to install and robust enough to support my Sony XRB55X850B Ultra HD 4k TV. "Snap away" feature allows easy access for cable installations behind the TV. I would highly recommend to a friend !

Pros: Professional looking satin black finish in combination with the slim profile makes this a Great Wall mount unit .

Cons: Assorted hardware is pretty good, however, the selected spacers I used for mounting Clearance required me to shorten the machine screws 1/4". Other than that the unit was an exceptional buy!

Discontinued for a Reason

Daniel from Pennsylvania on 1/13/2015

This is a beautiful mount, and it isn't difficult to install. However, it has a FATAL flaw: The TVs will not stay in place. I contacted Sanus directly and was told that is the reason this product was discontinued. If you want your TV in full 10 degree tilt, it's great. We didn't, however, so we are going to be returning our mount. It was very irritating to reinstall the mount three times, only to watch it pop back to the full-tilt position again and again.

Pros: Beautiful, easy to install

Cons: The tilt only works in full-open position if your TV is heavy

Crutchfield response on January 20, 2015 Thanks for your review. Sanus confirmed that the VLT15B's low-profile design works best with slimmer, lighter televisions. It has difficulty holding positioning for heavier, deeper televisions. Our Advisors can help choose the best wall mount for your specific TV and installation. You can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Works as it should . . . but

RickA from Knoxville, TN on 12/29/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am removing a star from my rating for no other reason than the fact that the assembly and mounting instructions are so poorly done. As it turns out, it is a substantial enough unit that I had no qualms about hanging a 60" flat screen with it. And. . . it's really not all that hard to get the whole thing assembled and put to use. . . unless you try to use the directions. Throw them away, find the screws that are right for your television, mount the braces, then mount the frame securely to the wall, ignore everything else, and the Sanus VLT 15B will work as intended.

Pros: Substantial enough to cause no worries when hanging a 60" television.

Cons: The diagrams and instructions were fabricated by a surrealist.

Pros: Very easy to hang and I like how it's close to the wall and the tilting feature.

Hard to Reach

Greg from New York on 12/21/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am still not sure I am going to keep this wall mount. It positions the TV so close to the wall that it is hard to access the connection on the back of the TV. It is study and easy to mount on the wall, but is very limited in range of positioning and access to the back.

Pros: East to mount and sturdy.

Cons: Poor access to the back inputs and outputs on the TV. Limited range of positioning.

Quality Product

Orly from Bronx on 12/15/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

With this I was able to install in 1.5 hours. I could only use two studs, each 16" apart, mostly because the tv would only center with two, but also the mount did not have holes close enough to the ends to hit another stud. Two studs top and bottom are more than adequate for my tv which weighs about 40lbs. I used wall anchors for the last two holes for good measure. I added spacers because my ethernet cable was not recessed. I also connected the wires to the back of the tv before mounting it to the wall. The mount locks into place with release cables to use the kickstand or to dismount the tv. The kickstand feature lets the bottom end of the tv move away from the wall to reach wires. The tilt is excellent; with just a push of the hand at the top of the tv it adjusts and stays where you left it. Read the instructions regarding the tilt feature and the thickness of your tv. Very easy to install with the right features to make installation simple as possible.

Pros: Easy to install, tilt and release mechanism

Cons: None

Quality product that is easy to install. Once you get the tv set on the top bar the bottom locks in place so you know you're set. Only complaint was the screws wouldn't work on my Samsung tv so had to go to the local hardware store to get the correct length

Bill from Ramsey, NJ on 11/12/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Essentially a straight forward install, though viewing videos on the Sanus website was helpful. Adding the brackets to my Samsung UN60H7150 was confusing at first because I was unable to determine the proper combination of spacers to complete the attachment. Ultimately I had to run to the hardware store just before they closed at 5pm on a Saturday (with Buckeye football looming in 3 hours!!!) to purchase additional washers to achieve the correct spacing. Once this was done though, I had no issues mounting the wall unit and attaching the TV. I even did this solo, though I would definitely recommend having assistance! One helpful note: be sure and attach all of your cabling (power, HDMI, infrared, RJ-45) BEFORE mounting the TV. Even with the kickstand feature, there's still not much room to work behind the TV.

Pros: Straight-forward overall install. Very sturdy. TV looks great, and I'm happy with the unit.

Cons: Did not come with correct spacers for my TV model. Kickstand feature still doesn't allow much (if any) room to work begind the TV

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Mounting a Samsung 7150 65" tv was looking for a low profile quality mount with the smallest gap between wall and tv with a tilt mount . Sanus vlt15b was not only a great quality item but the price offered by Crutchfield was much cheaper than any other retailer with free shipping and fast . Searching the internet this was the best mount , unless you need a full movement . This mount has tilt only .

Pros: Great price . Easy installation . Quality price if they still have them available.

Cons: The only negative would be if you needed a full movement side to side .

Nice and very slim mount

D. Orr from North Texas on 1/19/2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This mount has it all. It's very slim so be ready to have help during your TV mounting. I placed my TV over the fireplace so its pretty high. The mount has a "kickstand" so you can flip the bottom out and work behind the TV. Needless to say, if you have "man" hands this won't happen. It's just to slim. I had a three person install, two holding the TV and the third plugging everything up. We were able to mount the TV and then make some minor adjustments. Overall I'm very impressed with the mount and the TV is tilted the full 10 degrees forward and you still can't really see anything behind it. The TV was so heavy I didn't want to take it off the mount to make any small adjustments, like the moving the plastic tabs used to release the bottom.

Pros: Slim mount design! Adjustments after installation to level or adjust height. Construction material, it felt heavy duty.

Cons: Slim mount design. Just be ready it mounts so close to the wall there is no room to work behind it. Have people on hand and get everything hooked up and hang it.

Perfect fit.

Rich from Pa on 12/23/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for the Sony XBR65 900A and was concerned that the 3" thickness at the bottom of the TV would not allow the tv to tilt enough. It worked out perfectly allowing the tv to tilt.

Pros: Easy install. Nice tilt and removing features.

Cons: None.

Geat wall mount

Tim from Bois D Arc, Missouri on 3/24/2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great functioning wall mount. Easy to install and mount TV. I have a 60 inch Panasonic plasma mounted on this. Tilt and leveling functions worked well.

Pros: Nice slim mounting. Tilt and leveling work good.

Cons: Instructions could be somewhat more detailed. The click stands that hold the TV away from the wall for plugging in cables does not leave you very much room. But considering how close it mounts the TV to the wall its understandable.

Quality Product. It took me a little time to sort out the installation process. This was the 1st time I attempted to mount a flat panel on the wall. The instructions were a little light, the pictures were good, but I sorted it out. Called SANUS customer service to confirm a few things - they were EXCELLENT! Drilled an extra set of holes to mount on 3 studs and keep the frame centered. Worked fine. Super stealth and sturdy. I would definately purchase this product again. Next time it will be a piece of cake to install (as always).

RickA from Battleground, WA on 2/10/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Mount arrived with a broken rivet on the wall plate so I repaired that. It appears sturdy enough but to support a 100 pound + tv I would prefer it to span three studs on 16" center rather than two. The big issue for me was the "Pro Set" leveling screws that are designed to be used to fine level the TV (+/- 0.25" on each side) once it is already up on the mount. They would not adjust and I was unable to resolve a 3/8" out of level condition. Will probably be returning.

Features

Overview: The Sanus VisionMount VLT15 Super Slim tilting-mount places 37"-65" TVs just 0.875" from the wall, yet still allows up to 10° of tilting capability. The VLT15 features the revolutionary Adjustable Virtual Axis technology, which allows tilt tension to be adjusted to compensate for a variety of TV depths. Unlike other ultra-thin mounts on the market, the VLT15 also offers additional exclusive features that make it incredibly easy to install and use. ProSet post-installation height and leveling adjustments allow the TV to be perfectly positioned after hanging. ClickStand technology holds the TV away from the wall for easy cable access without having to remove the TV from the mount. Wall plate mounting holes are designed to accommodate 16" or 24" on-center studs.

Compatibility: The VLT15universal wall-mount bracket is designed to fit flat-panel plasma and LCD monitors from 37" to 65". The TV can have a maximum weight of 100 pounds.

Construction: The bracket is constructed of heavy-gauge steel and high-impact plastic with a durable powder-coated black finish.

Super Slim Design: This super slim tilting mount sits just .875" from wall to complement the sleek look of ultra-thin flat-panel TVs.

Mounting: The wall plate must be mounted to wall studs or anchored to a brick, block, or concrete wall using the supplied lag bolts. The slots in the wall plate can accommodate a variety of stud spacing, allowing you to easily mount the TV to wall studs that are 16" or 24" on center. Once the wall plate is anchored to the wall studs and the monitor brackets (with the TV attached) are hooked onto the wall plate, the TV can slide left or right, allowing you to center the TV on the wall. The ProSet feature allows you to also make height and level adjustments. After the TV is secured, it will be held approximately 0.875" from the wall.

Note: Each monitor bracket has multiple bolt holes and can accommodate vertical hole spacing (on the back of the TV) up to 21.625" (550mm). Since the monitor brackets can slide on the wall plate, the horizontal hole spacing on the back of the TV can range from 3.9375" (100mm) to 32.4375" (823mm).

Steel Stud Mounting: If you wish to mount this Sanus wall mount in a building with steel stud walls, you will need the Sanus SSMK1 Steel Stud Mounting Kit (051SSMK1). Steel stud walls are typically found in commercial applications, such as office buildings, warehouses, and condominiums.

Mounting Hardware/Bolt Pattern: The VLT15 comes with M4, M5, M6, and M8 bolts to mount the monitor brackets to your TV. Given the mounting bracket's range of motion, it will accommodate the VESA100, 200, 400, 200 x 100, 300 x 200, 400 x 200, 400 x 300, 600 x 400, 800 x 400, and 800 x 500 mounting hole patterns in accordance with industry standards set by the Video Electronics Standards Association.

Note: Additional hardware may be required for your specific model of TV. For example; shorter or longer screws, thicker or slimmer washers or spacers. These additional accessories can often be found at your local hardware store.

Virtual Axis Technology: Once the TV is secured to the wall, you can adjust the TV's angle. With the Virtual Axis fingertip tilt system, the TV can tilt 10° down, and you can lock the position by simply tightening a knob on each monitor bracket.

ClickStand: The VLT15's ClickStand feature allows you to tilt the bottom of the TV outward and hold it there, giving you easy access to the back panel for connecting cables. Once all the cables have been plugged in, you can release the ClickStand and securely lock the TV into position on the wall plate.

Quick Release Tabs: Convenient quick-release tabs stay hidden behind your mounted TV, and easily pull down to unlock it from wall plate for cable access.

Installation Tools: The following tools are recommended for mounting the VLT15:

  • Stud finder
  • Awl
  • Level
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Electric drill
  • Drill bits: 1/8" (wood studs) and 5/16" (masonry)
  • Wrench or ratchet and socket: 1/2"

The bracket is very shallow. Unless the TV has a 90 degree plug, I suspect you may have to replace the face plate and outlet with a recessed one. Most 'big box' hardware stores have the parts to make this work... [ Shane  Jul 14, 2015 ]
No, a normal plug is too big .... you will need to recess your outlet, replace the normal plug with a "flat plug" or drop the wire down and use a different outlet. BTW: I solved my wire issue with the Wiremold TV Wire cover that hides your wire(s). It's paintable and easy to install - $21.49 at Crutchfields [ REED  Jul 13, 2015 ]
No. You need a recessed electrical outlet and a side facing HDMI jack on your tv. [ mark  Jul 13, 2015 ]
I don't believe you will. I installed a recessed receptacle prior to instalation and things are very close. [ DANIEL  Jul 13, 2015 ]
Our plug is far enough below the mount that it doesn't interfere. Moving the plug is probably your easiest solution. There are also plugs that are at 90 degrees from the main line. You could replace the tv's plug with one of those. I don't know how deep they are so I would measure. Hope this helps. J D [ Nicholas  Jul 13, 2015 ]
No. You must remove the box you have and replace with a recessed box. Very easy to do and you will have no problems [ PHILIP  Jul 13, 2015 ]
It's very close to the wall. I did have a recess outlet and just getting the wires from the TV into that box was a challenge. I'd explore other options before deciding. It is a solid unit and is working well for me but the design does limit options. I would suggest doing a mock layout with the mount, on the back of the TV before installing it on the wall. That way you can see where your cords land and adjust accordingly and if where you want to put the TV doesn't work relative to the installation requirements you could return it... I hope thes helps... [ David  Jul 13, 2015 ]
You should not have a problem with clearance on the sides. I have about 3 inches of clearance too. The problem I have is this mount is so close to the wall, the connections that leave from the back of the television run into the wall. [ JAMES  Feb 20, 2015 ]
I don't believe so - the pull down tabs at the bottom of the unit will release the locking mechanisms and you only need less than an inch of space to lift the TV off the mount. Cables will have to be connected on the TV prior to placing the TV on the mount as three inches of space on each side of the TV is not sufficient to reach behing the TV once it is mounted. [ Joe  Feb 19, 2015 ]
Should be no problem. U just need an inch or two to lift it up on. You don't need to go Side to side with it [ ROBERT  Feb 18, 2015 ]
You CAN'T go wrong purchasing this mount...sorry I made a typo!! [ ROY  Feb 18, 2015 ]
Hello Ed L - the mount pictured has a very low profile and make the television attached look like its hanging directly to the wall. The two "strings" you see at the bottom of the mount is what is used to RELEASE the bottom of the mount. I have two rather large LEDs using this mount and I have no issues installing or removing the LEDs from this mount. In my opinion you can go wrong with this mount... [ ROY  Feb 18, 2015 ]
Ed L, Since you drop the TV down to attach it to the mount side clearance is not the issue here. The real question is how much clearance do you have vertically. While I don't remember exactly how much room you will need I would guess approx 6 - 8 inches will do. BTW: Since you are mounting your TV in a recessed cabinet I suggest you have a few extra hands available. The vertical brackets that you actually mount the TV to move independent of each other and getting the TV to seat can be a challenge. [ REED  Feb 18, 2015 ]
It will be difficult to install inside a cabinet with just 3 inches of clearance. The main problem , aside from mounting the TV is the wire connections which depending on the TV might prove impossible. I had a heck of a time setting it up on an open wall. I have a Sony TV and the connections were a real pain. [ David  Feb 18, 2015 ]
This mount is on my wall for a 65 " Samsung and it took two of us some time to set the TV even with all the sides open to work. This mount is very close to the wall. I wish I would have bought one that would release and swing out for access to plugs and jacks. [ PATRICK L  Feb 18, 2015 ]
Sorry I can't help. I mounted a flat screen. Works great! [ THOMAS  Jan 11, 2015 ]
If the back of the TV is flat - yes ... If it is curved - no [ REED  Jan 11, 2015 ]
The bracket is flat for mounting to a flat panel TV. But, it comes with different lengths of screws and washers for different back-of-TV configurations. Depending on how curved the back of your TV is you may be able to make it work, but the manufacture may not recommend it. [ Richard  Jan 10, 2015 ]
First thought would be no. But they do give you a variety of screws and plastic spacers so there might be away. Depending on your TV. Seeing as howyou can return it if it doesn't work you could try it. [ ROBERT  Jan 10, 2015 ]
i really like this mount.i installed three of them.i did rub the wires through the wall, i think thats usually the point to wall mounting is to hide the wires and have a nice clean look.i have never had a problem conecting the wires. but those tv's also had cable hook ups on the side, there is usually enough room espeasially if u tilt it down a little witch u are probly planning on seeings how u bought a tilting mount.i would recomend holding the tv up on the wall were u want it and see where the wire plug ins are on your tv then run the wires acordingly through the walls.good luck [ ROBERT  Dec 13, 2014 ]
Most of the connectors come out the side of my TV and there are recessed plugs in the back. I have had to pull out on the bottom of the set so that it props up on the mounts included in the mounting package a few times to get my hands in there but I never needed to consider cutting holes in the wall. Hi, I use this mount with right-angle HDMI connectors, right-angle power cords, and wall-mounted cables and get full range of motion. Mike [ MICHAEL P  Dec 10, 2014 ]
I used my mount on a 65" Panasonic. I did have to use a recessed in-the-wall outlet for my electrical and cables which I ran down through the wall to my Blue ray and Receiver. There isn't enough clearance behind the mount to use even a 90 degree plug. If your TV has connectors on the side you may be able to run the cables straight down but they would be exposed. [ Richard  Dec 10, 2014 ]
Depending on the TV and where the connections are, you could definitely run into a problem with wires preventing the TV from setting flush. I ran the wires inside the wall and still found it difficult to attach HTMI cables. I would have done better to locate where the wires came out after I test fit the mount with the TV. It does work well, the TV has a low profile and all the wires are hidden but it's a gamble. The real problem is you need the mount to know if it will work. So save the packaging and make sure you can return it! [ David  Dec 10, 2014 ]
I had to use spacers on my 50' Samsung to allow clearance for the cables. I had to find bolts form a previously purchased mount, the ones that came with the mount were not sized right with the spacers. Sometimes a mount can be too close to the wall. [ JAMES  Dec 10, 2014 ]
