Features
Storage Device: The Toshiba
Gigabeat F10 includes a built-in 10GB HDD (hard disk drive), capable of storing
approximately 166 hours of music (at 128 kbps), or about 2,500 songs. You can
also store digital photos for viewing on the full color LCD screen. Devices that
support the USB Mass Storage Class can be backed up to the Gigabeat, allowing
you to use the unit for temporary storage of data files, if desired.
Display: The Gigabeat features
a 2.2" QVGA low temperature polysilicon TFT color display with a resolution of
320 x 240. You can choose one of 5 preset wallpaper (background) displays and 3
user wallpaper displays using your own digital image files. In addition, you can
select any 10 screen themes (6 vertical and 4 horizontal). Screen themes include
the design of the screen, the orientation of the screen display, the size of the
display characters, and the size of the cover photograph.
Compatible Formats: This unit
can store and playback MP3, WMA, and WAV music files. It can also store and
display JPEG and BMP digital image files. Compatible MP3 files have sampling
frequencies of 22.05, 44.1 and 48 kHz, and bit rates of 32 to 320 kbps for
stereo and 16 to 64 kbps for mono. Compatible WMA files can be recorded at a
sampling frequency of 22.05 or 44.1 kHz, and a bit rate 32 to 192 kbps for
stereo and 32 kbps for mono. Stereo or mono WAV files can be recorded at 16 bits
and 22.05, 44.1, or 48 kHz.
Plus Touch Control: The Plus
Touch control on the front panel lets you scroll through your music or photo
collections quickly and easily, raise and lower the volume, and navigate through
the menu options. The control gives you three commands: tap the control (touch),
press and hold the control (hold), and slide your finger across the control
(scroll). While in use, the bottom portion of the display will indicate the
operation for each point of the Plus Touch control.
Side Mounted Controls: Power
and playback controls are located on the right side of the unit. The controls
include: Power, Menu, Volume +/- and the "A" button. The "A" button can be used
for any of five functions, selectable in the setup menu: Equalizer/SRS WOW,
Album Skip, Bookmark, Mute, or Display Jacket. The clear buttons feature a blue
backlight which illuminates while the LCD backlight is on.
USB Cradle: The Gigabeat F10
includes a USB cradle for docking the unit. While docked in the USB cradle, you
can charge the battery, download music or image files to and from your computer
via the USB cable, or output audio through the line out jack. The USB cradle has
three controls ("transfer files", "synchronize" and a "USB/Line Out" switch) and
three connections (USB-A, Mini-USB Ver.2.0, and a 3.5mm line output minijack).
USB Transfer Rates: The USB
cradle's USB-A port (on the left side) is used for data downloading directly
from a camera or other device supporting Mass Storage Class driver. It is USB
2.0 Full Speed compatible (equivalent to USB 1.1). The Mini USB Version 2.0 port
(on the back of the cradle) is USB 2.0 Hi-Speed compatible when you are
transferring tracks using the gigabeat room program. However, tracks are
transferred at the slower USB 2.0 Full Speed rate if you are using Napster and
Windows Media Player 10. Note: Your PC must be equipped with a USB 2.0
Hi-Speed port in order to transfer tracks at the higher rate.
Rechargeable Battery: The unit
contains a built-in Lithium Ion rechargeable battery with the capacity for
approximately 16 hours of continuous playback. The battery can be charged by
plugging the AC adapter directly into the unit (power jack on the top panel), or
by docking the unit into the USB cradle (while the cradle is powered by the AC
adapter). Charging can also be done while the unit is connected to a PC via the
USB cable, if the PC's USB connection supports charging. Notes: No
charging time is provided in the manual. The battery can be recharged
approximately 500 times.
Earbud Headphones: The Gigabeat
F10 comes with a pair of in-the-ear, earbud-style headphones. The headphones
include a 44" cord extending from the plug to the left earbud. The cord to the
right earbud is 54" long. This design allows the cord to hang from the user's
left side instead of the center.
Equalizer Mode: You can choose
from the multiple equalizer modes to make the music sound the way you want. You
can select from the following EQ modes: Flat (no adjustment), Bass Boost (Bass+,
Bass++), Loudness, Acoustic 1 & 2, Classic 1 & 2, Dance 1 & 2, Hard 1 & 2, Hip
Hop 1 & 2, Jazz 1 & 2, Latin 1 & 2, Piano 1 & 2, Pops 1 & 2, R&B 1 & 2, Rock 1 &
2, Vocal 1 & 2, User (select and store bass and treble levels), and SRS WOW 1,
2, and 3. SRS WOW offers a natural, three-dimensional sound stage, rich bass,
and a distinctly delineated clear sound.
Bookmarking: You can bookmark
up to 50 audio files for inclusion into a special folder for exclusive playback.
You can remove the bookmarks when you no longer want the file to be included in
this folder.
Intro Play: You can play the
first 10 seconds or the first 60 seconds of a file. The Intro function can also
be turned off if desired.
Viewing Image Files: In the
photo viewer mode, up to 5000 images can be displayed. Thumbnail views are
displayed 12 at a time. Full screen images are displayed in a slide show fashion
with an interval of 2, 3, 5, 10, or 20 seconds. You can also choose from three
image changeover effects: Fade (white), Fade (black), Wipe, or no effect.
Sleep Timer: You can set the
unit to turn itself off after a selected amount of time. The Sleep Timer can be
set to 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes.
