Inputs and Outputs Notes
Two ColorStream HD high-resolution component video inputs allow you to connect
an optional HDTV receiver or a source with component video outputs. These inputs
are capable of receiving 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i digital TV formats.
FST PURE Flat Picture Tube:
This "purely flat" tube delivers increased viewing angle along with
the enhanced picture linearity necessary to produce accurate life-like images.
Additionally, unwanted reflections from room lighting are eliminated, compared
to conventional tube designs. Finally, sharpness and brightness are both
significantly improved. The result is the sharpest, brightest and most lifelike
pictures ever produced by a Toshiba television.
Invar Shadow Mask:
Most picture tubes use standard shadow masks made of steel, which can expand
under intense heat. Expansion of the shadow mask causes picture discoloration,
often called "doming." But Invar shadow masks are made of a compound
of iron and nickel, rendering them extremely heat-resistant. This high thermal
tolerance eliminates doming and allows the tube to operate at a higher voltage,
producing brighter whites, higher contrast, and purer colors.
Dynamic Quadruple Focus:
While most CRTs can create a fairly precise, round beam spot in the center of
the picture, many create a less precise elliptical beam spot at the edges and
corners. Dynamic Quadruple Focus utilizes both horizontal and vertical beam
adjustment to ensure that even the edges and corners have a precise beam spot
for a sharp, uniform picture from corner to corner.
CrystalScan HDSC with 3-2
Pulldown Processing (upconverts NTSC sources to 1080i):
Conventional interlaced signals (like antenna, cable, VCR, etc.) are upconverted
to 1080i by Toshiba's CrystalScan HDSC circuitry. For progressive-scan video
sources (like a progressive-scan DVD player), you can choose 540p instead of
1080i via the on-screen menu. The result is an effortlessly filmlike image.
4MB, 10-bit 3D Digital
Comb Filter with Vertical Contour Correction:
This advanced filter analyzes sequential fields of information to eliminate dot
crawl and color bleed. Additionally, the filter significantly reduces detail
noise, seen as shimmering or flicker, in complex or intricately detailed scenes.
Most video noise normally seen in RF and composite video signals is eliminated.
Designed to optimize poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable, this noise
reduction system eliminates video noise ("snow") for a clean crisp
image. This system detects the quality of the incoming video signal, and
automatically applies the needed amount of video optimization.
DFine Hi-Speed Velocity Scan
Scan Modulation adjusts the CRT scanning speed to create sharp, well defined
edges. DFine increases the scanning speed by 80% for even greater detail.
Wide Band Video
As standard video amplifiers increase the gain of the video signal, video
bandwidth tends to decrease. This eliminates the higher frequencies, reducing
resolution. A wide-band video amplifier maintains the higher frequencies,
enabling higher resolution.
Picture-in-Picture: This feature
splits the screen into a double window that allows you to watch two programs
side-by-side. Using the Swap function, you can switch the programs. When the
input signals of the main and secondary pictures are both 480i, you can adjust
the size of each window. When one of the input signals is 1080i, 720p, or 480p,
the size of each window is fixed.
You cannot use the picture-in-picture feature when using the DVI input.
Programmed Channel Search
Function: This function lets you
quickly scan your programmed channels. The TV automatically enters a modified
picture-in-picture mode, which includes the main program window and seven
smaller windows. The smaller windows border the main window on the top and right
side. In each smaller window, there is a still picture of the program on that
channel. When you highlight one of the smaller windows, the still picture is
replaced by full-motion video.
This feature allows you to store 7 of your favorite channels.
Favorite Channel Search Function:
This function lets you quickly scan your favorite channels in the same way that
you scan your programmed channels.
SurfLock: The SurfLock feature
temporarily memorizes one channel under the Channel Return button, so you can
return to that channel quickly from any other channel.
Auto Aspect Detection:
This system utilizes ID-1 detection to sense when an interlaced DVD player is
sending a 16:9 signal, and automatically switches the TV to 16:9 Letterbox mode
with vertical compression for superior picture quality.
You can select one of the following picture mode:
bright and dynamic picture
standard picture setting
movie-like picture setting
allows you to adjust and store the following settings: contrast, brightness,
color, tint, sharpness, flesh tone, noise reduction, and color temperature
Double Baffle Speaker
This side-mounted, front-firing speaker design delivers the most stereo sound
reproduction available from a television's internal speaker system.
When the signal source is changed, this feature limits the highest volume level
to prevent extreme changes in volume.
SRS WOW is a combination of three unique sound field enhancements. SRS 3D
creates a wide three-dimensional sound field from two TV speakers. TruBass
boosts bass frequency perception for more dramatic low frequency effects. And,
FOCUS raises the sound image vertically to create clearer voices, even at lower
volume levels. The combination of these features creates dramatically improved
home theater sound.
Sub Bass System: The Sub Bass
System allows you to enhance bass performance, even when the volume is low. When
the feature is turned on, you can independently adjust the Sub Bass System
The on timer switches the television on after a specified amount of time. The on
timer can be adjusted from 10 minutes to 12 hours in 10-minute increments.
The sleep timer switches the television off after a specified amount of time.
The sleep timer can be adjusted from 10 minutes to 3 hours in 10-minute
Multibrand Remote: The
supplied remote is pre-programmed to operate this unit and a number of functions
on other brands of components, including cable boxes, satellite receivers,
TV/VCR combos, DVD/VCR combos, DVD players, portable DVD players, and VCRs. A
"Light" button allows you to illuminate all the buttons for five
seconds, making for easy operation in the dark.
and Outputs Notes
This input consists of left and right RCA audio jacks and a DVI-D terminal. The
DVI-D terminal can accommodate a copy-protected digital connection (HDCP) to
other devices (such as digital set-top boxes) that have compatible interfaces.
The DVI-D terminal is compliant with the EIA-861 standard and is not intended
for use with personal computers.
The DVI-D input will accept 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i.
High-resolution Component Video Inputs:
The component video inputs will accept 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i.
Audio Center Channel In:
This input consists of a single RCA audio jack and an on/off switch. If your
receiver has a center channel output, you can connect it to this input and use
the TV speakers as your center channel. For this to work, the on/off switch must
be in the on position.
