Inputs and Outputs Notes
HDTV Monitor: Two ColorStream
HD high-resolution component video inputs and an HDMI jack allow you to connect
an optional HDTV receiver or source. These inputs are capable of receiving
1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals.
FST PURE Flat Picture Tube:
This "purely flat" tube delivers increased viewing angle along with the enhanced
picture linearity necessary to produce accurate life-like images. Additionally,
unwanted reflections from room lighting are eliminated, compared to conventional
tube designs. Finally, sharpness and brightness are both significantly improved.
The result is the sharpest, brightest and most lifelike pictures ever produced
by a Toshiba television.
Invar Shadow Mask:
Most picture tubes use standard shadow masks made of steel, which can expand
under intense heat. Expansion of the shadow mask causes picture discoloration,
often called "doming." But Invar shadow masks are made of a compound of iron and
nickel, rendering them extremely heat-resistant. This high thermal tolerance
eliminates doming and allows the tube to operate at a higher voltage, producing
brighter whites, higher contrast, and purer colors.
Dynamic Quadruple Focus:
While most CRTs can create a fairly precise, round beam spot in the center of
the picture, many create a less precise elliptical beam spot at the edges and
corners. Dynamic Quadruple Focus utilizes both horizontal and vertical beam
adjustment to ensure that even the edges and corners have a precise beam spot
for a sharp, uniform picture from corner to corner.
CrystalScan HDSC with 3-2 Pulldown
Processing (upconverts NTSC sources to 1080i): Conventional interlaced
signals (like antenna, cable, VCR, etc.) are upconverted to 1080i by Toshiba's
CrystalScan HDSC circuitry. For progressive-scan video sources (like a
progressive-scan DVD player), you can choose 540p instead of 1080i via the
on-screen menu. The result is an effortlessly filmlike image.
4MB, 10-bit 3D Digital Comb
Filter with Vertical Contour Correction: This advanced filter
analyzes sequential fields of information to eliminate dot crawl and color
bleed. Additionally, the filter significantly reduces detail noise, seen as
shimmering or flicker, in complex or intricately detailed scenes. Most video
noise normally seen in RF and composite video signals is eliminated.
Designed to optimize poor NTSC signals from antenna or cable, this noise
reduction system eliminates video noise ("snow") for a clean crisp image. This
system detects the quality of the incoming video signal, and automatically
applies the needed amount of video optimization.
DFine Hi-Speed Velocity Scan
Modulation: Velocity Scan Modulation adjusts the CRT scanning speed to
create sharp, well defined edges. DFine increases the scanning speed by 80% for
even greater detail.
Wide Band Video Amplifier:
As standard video amplifiers increase the gain of the video signal, video
bandwidth tends to decrease. This eliminates the higher frequencies, reducing
resolution. A wide-band video amplifier maintains the higher frequencies,
enabling higher resolution.
This feature splits the screen into a double window that allows you to watch two
programs side-by-side. When the input signals of the main and secondary pictures
are both 480i, you can use the Swap function to switch the programs. You can
also toggle between the audio from the main and secondary programs. The
Double-Window feature displays each picture according to its input signal aspect
ratio. The main window (on the left) can only show images with a 4:3 aspect
ratio, and the secondary window (on the right) can show images with both 4:3 and
16:9 aspect ratios.
Note: The main window
can only display 480i signals.
Programmed Channel Search Function:
This function lets you quickly scan your programmed channels. The TV
automatically enters multi-window mode, and begins a twelve picture scan of your
programmed channels. In each small window, there is a still picture of the
program on that channel.
Favorite Channels: This feature
allows you to store 12 of your favorite channels.
Favorite Channel Search Function:
This function lets you quickly scan your favorite channels in the same way that
you scan your programmed channels.
SurfLock: The SurfLock feature
temporarily memorizes one channel under the Channel Return button, so you can
return to that channel quickly from any other channel.
Picture Size: When viewing a
1080i, 480i, or 480p signal source, you can choose one of the following picture
- Natural: image is displayed close to its originally formatted proportion
- Full: This mode is mainly designed for 16:9 programs. When a 16:9 program is received, the picture is stretched taller to fill the screen without distorting the main portion of the image. If a 4:3 program is sensed, the picture is stretched wider to fill the screen, but not taller. In each case, none of the picture is hidden.
- Note: Full cannot be
used with 1080i signals.
- Theater Wide 1: picture is
non-uniformly enlarged; the center of the picture remains close to its true
proportion, but the left and right edges are stretched wider to fill the
- Theater Wide 2: entire
picture is uniformly enlarged
- Theater Wide 3: picture is
non-uniformly enlarged; the picture is stretched wider to fill the width of
the screen and stretched slightly taller
Picture Modes: You can select
one of the following picture modes:
- Sports: bright and dynamic
- Standard: standard picture
- Movie: movie-like picture
- Preference: allows you to
adjust and store the following settings: contrast, brightness, color, tint,
sharpness, and color temperature
Stable Sound: When the signal
source is changed, this feature limits the highest volume level to prevent
extreme changes in volume.
SRS WOW is a combination of three unique sound field enhancements. SRS 3D
creates a wide three-dimensional sound field from two TV speakers. TruBass
boosts bass frequency perception for more dramatic low frequency effects. And,
FOCUS raises the sound image vertically to create clearer voices, even at lower
volume levels. The combination of these features creates dramatically improved
home theater sound.
On Timer: The on timer switches
the television on after a specified amount of time. The on timer can be adjusted
from 10 minutes to 12 hours in 10-minute increments.
Sleep Timer: The sleep timer
switches the television off after a specified amount of time. The sleep timer
can be adjusted from 10 minutes to 3 hours in 10-minute increments.
Labeling Channels: Channel
labels appear above the on-screen channel number display each time you turn on
the TV, change a channel, or press Recall. You can choose any four characters to
identify a channel.
The supplied remote is pre-programmed to operate this unit and a number of
functions on other brands of components, including cable boxes, satellite
receivers, TV/VCR combos, DVD/VCR combos, DVD players, portable DVD players,
VCRs, and "home theater in a box" systems. A "Light" button allows you to
illuminate all the buttons for five seconds, making for easy operation in the
Inputs and Outputs Notes
Input: This input consists of left and right RCA audio jacks and an HDMI
jack. This input can accommodate a copy-protected digital connection (HDCP) to
other devices (such as digital set-top boxes) that have compatible interfaces.
The HDMI jack is compliant with the EIA/CEA-861/861B standard and is not
intended for use with personal computers.
Note: The HDMI jack
will accept 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals.
ColorStream HD High-resolution
Component Video Inputs: The component video inputs will accept 1080i, 720p,
480p, and 480i signals.
