You can zoom in on any selected image (2x or 4x), or rotate the image clockwise 90 degrees until the desired angle is selected.

DivX Playback: The D-VR620 is an official DivX Certified product. The unit supports the following DivX profiles - DivX 3.x, DivX 4.x, DivX 5.x, and DivX 6.0. Auto Finalizing: You can finalize disc automatically using this function. You can use this function to finalize discs after finishing all timer recordings and at the end of the disc space. You will need to finalize disc to play back on other DVD players.

Chase Playback: The Chase Playback function allows you to begin watching a DVD recording that is already in progress. Playback cannot start until at least 30 seconds of the program has been recorded. During playback of the DVD recording, you can pause, fast-forward, and fast-reverse the recording.

Rapid Playback: This function is available only on disc recorded in the Dolby Digital format, and plays back in a slightly faster (1.3x) or slower speed (0.8x) while keeping the sound outputs.

Instant Skip: You can skip TV commercials to enjoy the recorded programs without interruption. The Instant Skip feature searches ahead 30 seconds up to 180 seconds.

Index Search: An index mark will be assigned at the beginning of each recording you make on a VHS tape. You may skip to a specific marked point using Index Search.

Time Search: This feature allows you to go to a specific point on a cassette tape by entering the exact amount of time you wish to skip in order to reach the point.

Title List: The Title List feature allows you to check the titles recorded on your disc easily. You can choose a title to play back from this list and easily edit the titles as you prefer.

Editing Discs: This unit offers convenient editing functions which are possible only with DVD-RW/-R and DVD+RW/+R discs.

One response says that this DVR will not let you record "copyrighted TV shows." Are most of the regular network TV shows copyrighted (CSI, Gotham, American Idol etc.) and thus you can't record them?

Sorry, I have not yet used the DVR for this purpose.
charles  Dec 29, 2014

Yes you can record copyrighted shows. You can't transfer TV shows to a VCR or make a Blu-ray copy.....
phillip  Dec 27, 2014

I always record my TV programs--exclusively TCM and PBS --- on VHS tapes. Then I will evaluate their contents and then I record them on DVD discs. I never encountered prohibitions on recording to VHS tapes. The only prohibition I encountered on recording to DVD discs was on movies shown on channel AMC. There was no prohibition on taping them--just on trying to record the movie from tape to DVD disc. I have two Toshiba DVR620 units and have had no recording troubles with them.

Q
Can you output both the DVD and VCR signals via the HDMI cable?
james  Nov 25, 2014
7 answers
A
To : Jim D HDMI can only be used for output for the DVD part of the item. HDMI does not apply for outputting the signal for the VCR section. For the VCR section you will use composite cables - yellow for the video and the red and white cables for the audio or you can use component cables. I hope this information was helpful to you. Sincerely, Vince

I use one set RCA jacks (R/Y/W) from the Line Out and they output both the DVD and VCR signals smoothly. I have never tried the HDMI Out jacks but hopefully they would provide the same funcitonality.

Q
on this dvd/vcr combo. does it have a built-in burner? What we are trying to do is record for at least 4 hours on one disc. What disc would we need to purchase to record this length? thank you so much for your help.

A
I buy dvd discs that will take 8 hours recording. I have used Memorex and Sony discs I use +RW types because I can erase recordings and re-use the space if it was the latest recording. The Toshiba DVR 620 won't take -Rw discs. I've been building a DVD movie library for 5 years and currently have over 3000 movies recorded on DVD discs.
saul  Dec 19, 2014
A
Regarding the Toshiba DVR 620 The DVR does not include a burner. When I ordered a 25 blank disc set for recording I was told that all of the discs that they sell are for 2 HOUR recordings only. I hope this information was useful to you.

Yes it has a built in burner for recording. I use DVD - R But can use most DVD disks , DVD plus R DVD - R. DVD -RW and You can set it for 2- 4- or 6 hr recording but 2hr recording makes the Best recordings.

Yes, it does have a built in disk burner. It works very well and will actually record up to 8 hours on most DVD discs. I use mainly DVD + R, 16X, 4.7 GB. Hope this helps.

This Toshiba does have a built-in burner. I have had good luck with Verbatim DVD-R disks but I don't know if you can record for 4 hours. (You may want to contact Verbatim and ask.) Other, popular, brands have been unreliable for me.

Q
I have a 2 dual deck SONY VX560. Will it play DVDs recorded on that are finialized. Will it record on unfinalized DVDs with some recording from SONY unit on it?
thomas o.  May 03, 2014
6 answers
A
The 620 should play discs that are finalized. It WON'T play unfinalized "-R" discs from other machines even if it's from a Toshiba (won't play unfinalized "-R" from my older DVR650). It might play unfinalized "+R" discs from another machine since that is Toshiba's preferred format (same as SONY). Hope this helps. Neil W

It will play DVDs from any device, as for recording on a disc that has not been finalized I can't answer that. I have only converted a few VHS to DVD and don't have that much experience with it. My DVR620 mainly plays DVDs in the kitchen.

Q
I don't have cable or satellite but have a high defintion TV antenna. Can I record programs from the antenna reception?
tom z  Apr 27, 2014
1 answer
A
Yes, easy. First you have to do the wiring so that you can see the TV program from the Toshba. Routing the antenna thru the Toshiba to the TV is easiest. Then on the right side of the controller look for timer program and follow the prompts. When done press enter, and timer set (bottom row) Timer set turns off the Toshiba until it is time to start the recording. (Don't forget to put a new dvd or a tape in the machine first)

yes you can record tv shows run cables from the input of your cable box to out put on tv
leonard  Mar 15, 2014
A
Easily. Just set your tv so that you are viewing through the Toshiba and then just start recording
richard  Mar 05, 2014
A
Yes, it will record from any source through its inputs, including TV shows. However, it does not have an internal TV tuner.
erik w  Mar 04, 2014
A
Yes. TV shows can be recorded directly from your TV as they are broadcast. Press the Record button after choosing VHS or DVD on the remote (or DVR620 console) and the Record Mode (length of time/quality). You can also set the DVR620 to record a program at a specific time and day using the Timer Programming in the Setup menu. If you have recorded programs on a DVR from your cable company, you can record those programs to either a DVD disc or to a VHS tape in your Toshiba DVR620. The quality is much better using a DVD than a tape. Set up the DVR620 first. Begin playing the cable company DVR program then press the Record button on the DVR620 remote or console. You can manually stop the DVR620 recording when the program is finished or you can press the Record button to set the length of time remaining to be recorded so that it stops automatically. Press the Record button once for 30 minutes, twice for 60 minutes and so on. The length of time will be displayed on the DVR620 console. NOTE: Since the DVR620 does not have its own tuner, it will record only the channel that is set to display on your TV. Do not try to watch other channels while it is recording. However, if your cable company DVR allows you to record two programs at once, you can set it to record one program ahead of time, then switch to the TV channel or previously recorded program that you want to copy to the DVR620. While your TV must be set for the correct channel, it does not have to be actually turned on to record. I have cables connected as follows: (1) cable company DVR OUT to DVR620 IN (audio/video - red/white/yellow), (2) DVR620 OUT to TV IN (HDMI), (3) cable company DVR OUT to TV IN (HDMI). There may be other combinations that also work.
judith a  Mar 04, 2014

This Toshiba will allow TV recording to a tape or blank dvd. It does not allow recording of televised copyrighted material, so if a particular TV program is copyrighted it will not let you record to the DVR.
vincent  Mar 04, 2014
A
Hi Brian, So far I have only used mine to watch DVD's and also to dub old VHS tapes to DVD (which it has done a great job with). But the owner's manual has a whole section about recording from TV so I assume it can do that as well.

My house is wired with a single RF wire to all rooms which makes it easy to hook up to any TV. I looked at this box at a store and found it wants the usual 3-wire input. What device can I obtain to split out my single wire to the 3 input leads? Gordon J

This will depend largely on how your system is set-up. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to discuss your system set-up and give you the details on how you may be able to use this unit in your system.

Yes I had a lot of the big VCR home movies and i recorded them to DVD. Easy to use.
brenda  Jan 06, 2014
A
Yes, I purchased this last year and have recently used it several times to transfer old VHS tape material to DVD's. It did a great job. I do highly recommend reading the owner's manual section for instructions. Make sure after you've burned the new DVD that you also read about finalizing the disc (also in the owner's manual) so that it can be played in other DVD players. It's not highly complicated, but following the instructions helps avoid frustration.
patty  Jan 05, 2014
A
Yes, it does a very good job. However, my experience is that if the VHS tapes have not been used in a long time, they need to be fast-forwarded and then rewound using a separate tape re-winder machine first because the sitting tapes makes the tape very tight and might not work if the rewind is not done first. I found my re-wind machine on an online auction site for a very reasonable price.
