Use this impressive lens with one of Nikon's FX or DX SLR cameras. It gives you dramatic wide-angle shooting — ideal for capturing sweeping landscapes or the scope of a large indoor scene. And a large maximum aperture throughout the focal range means you'll be able to capture well-exposed photos, even when shooting in lower light with slower shutter speeds.
World-class Nikon optics ensure accurate, razor-sharp results. A multi-coating on the lens minimizes flare and ghosting. Your photos will be clear and detailed across the entire field of view — from one edge to the other — thanks to two ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and three aspherical elements. And Nikon's built-in Silent Wave Motor makes autofocus very fast and nearly silent. You'll be able to quickly focus on your subject and snap images of candid moments.
This is a very nice lens and paired very well with my Nikon D750. Crisp shots and fast lens with very little to no vignetting when all the way out at 14mm. I do a lot of low light and night shooting and have been very pleased with this lens. Must have for landscapes-
Pros: Fast wide lens
Cons: heavy, no filter capability
This is an amazing lens. It remain sharp on the edges at 14 mm and f/2.8. It is free from dark corners (at least I didn't see any). It is perfect for FX and film cameras especially if you need wide angle shots in relatively dark spaces (inside cathedrals,...) or have to stay close to a monument to keep the pedestrians out of the frame yet want to get everything in one frame.
Pros: Fast - Sharp - Wide view angle
This lens outperforms Nikon's 14mm, 20mm, and 24mm f2.8 primes in sharpness and contrast. Outweighs them too, this is an unusually heavy lens, I would not recommend it for the smaller Nikon bodies, it will feel unbalanced. Very sharp, can bring spectacular creative perspectives to images if you are good at composition. Difficult to learn to use well - easy to get random distractions in the frame edges because its field of view is so wide, or get huge uninteresting areas. You really need to be careful in composing images, but if you are, you can get "huge WOW!" images.
Other than portraits and macros, half of my travel photos are shot with this lens. Many professional Canon shooters have this lens adapted to a Canon mount.
No filters possible, but polarizers don't work properly at 14mm anyway. The front element isn't well protected, the built in hood is all the help you have on that. The lens hood isn't a lot of help for flare reduction because to stay out of the way at 14mm, it can't extend out much. Good thing the lens damps down flare very well. I've shot into the sun and gotten a spot or two of flare at most, often none at all. Sun from the side is when you're most likely to get flare, hitting the front element. The slip on lens cap falls off easily so be careful.
Only down side for me is that 14mm to 35mm covers most of what I shoot - I have to change lenses more than with the 16mm-35mm. Still, from 14mm to 24mm, this lens is better - faster, a bit sharper.
Pros: Crispy sharp; high contrast; amazing flare control for a lens like this; well controlled distortion; incredibly creative perspectives possible
Cons: Hard to keep front element clean; hard to clean front element; so heavy that it feels unbalanced even on a D800E; no VR; always worrying about that front element getting damaged; 16-35 might be a better lens because of the range for most users.
This lens is great for capturing wide angles. Some say it is the best wide angle zoom money can buy. Its great for scenic shots, automobile photography, landscapes, cityscapes and large groups of people.
Pros: Superb sharpness and wide angle capabilities.
Cons: No filter threads on the front of the lens, so you have to be careful not to bump the lens in to anything. At the widest settings you have to be careful who or what is at the edges because it can lead to some interesting distortion. When shooting at the widest angle, you may want to switch from matrix to center weighted metering because of the amount of light entering the lens. I found the pictures tend to be slightly underexposed when using matrix metering.
This 14-24mm f/2.8G ED Lens is Really Ultra Sharp,Fast,Reliable and Pro Quality Built. Image Quality is Unbelievable,Colors are Wonderful,Magnificent details and great contrast. For Landscape shots,It is a Jewel. It is Big, Expensive,Heavy and it is the Best-- a Legend of its class. Don't even Hesitate to get this Crown Jewel, without Doubt-a Superb piece of glass. You will be Happy.
This lens leads the pack on how a wide angle should perform. This lens has very little distortion. The only distortion is below 18mm and it is only around the edges. You will not notice any distortion if you are shooting landscapes of mountains, and anything far away. If you are shooting buildings and structures I recommend shooting at 18mm-20mm and you will be just fine.
For shooting people and portraits as well as group shots you will notice slight distortion below 18mm. However its still well behaved in every way! This lens performs so well at 24mm. In fact this is the BEST 24mm zoom I have ever used. Its much better @ 24mm than the 24-70mm lens @ 24mm respectfully.
This is a must have lens if you are going to shoot wide!
Pros: fast, sharp, focus is quick, accurate focus, smooth zoom and focus, solid build quality, superior performance, low distortion
Cons: heavy and thats the only con

Overview: This item is an AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm, f/2.8G ED, ultra wide angle zoom lens, optimized for edge-to-edge sharpness when using both the Nikon FX- (23.9 x 36mm) and DX- format image sensors.
Construction: The two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) elements and three aspherical lenses control chromatic aberrations while enhancing sharpness and contrast even at the widest aperture settings. The exclusive Nano Crystal Coating further reduces ghosting and flare for even greater image clarity.
Built-in CPU: The lens has a built-in CPU which allows it to communicate with the camera body for focus and exposure functions. A set of CPU contacts is located on the lens mount for interfacing with the camera body.
Auto Focus: Internal Focus (IF) provides fast and quiet autofocusing without changing the length of the lens, retaining subject-working distance through the focus range. Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables ultra-high-speed autofocusing with exceptional accuracy and super-quiet operation. The manual/auto focus mode switch allows quick response to situations requiring manual focus operation.
Zoom Control: The lens features a large, textured manual zoom ring for easy zooming control.
Aperture: Because there is no aperture ring on this lens, the aperture must be set on the camera.
Diaphragm: The lens is equipped with a fully-automatic, 9-blade diaphragm that produces a nearly circular aperture. Out-of-focus images in front of or behind the subject are rendered as pleasing blurs.
Warranty Terms: Nikon offers a 1-year parts and labor warranty on this lens. An additional 4-year Extended Service Coverage is available at no charge if you register the product with Nikon within 10 days of purchase.
